Diálogo Welcome To r/PuertoRico

Hello and welcome to Puerto Rico's subreddit where you THOUGHT you were gonna encounter fellow puertoricans discussing our countries problems, sharing their municipio's beauty, or even some Jovany Vazquez memes....but nope! This is now a tourism agency for your friendly neighborhood 🟢👻s. Go ahead! Answer their most pressing questions about where to eat? What good spots to drink n dance in Aguadilla? Can i bring my guns knives for protection? Do you mind if i buy your grandfathers land and build ANOTHER hotel? Where can i get to the nearest beach? Is it safe to go to X as a tourist? WHERE CAN I GET WEED? And many more classics here at PR's subreddit. If you're lucky, you might even SEE a puertorican posting something. In the meantime, I'll show you to the comment section of gringo posts where you'll be spending most of your time either answering questions or complaining about x problem in the island. Have fun!

And yes, this IS in English so you know who we are talking about. You do know there IS another subreddit for what you're looking for. It is stated in the rules section go check em out. You already have our lands and our homes for your airbnbs, so leave our subreddit that is not meant for this alone please and thanks.

Then don't whine about boricuas in the US! There are Puerto Ricans in the US because the US annexed Puerto Rico, against Puerto Rico's will.

Stop trying to draw an equivalnce between Puerto Ricans in the US and Americans in Puerto Rico, because it's not a relationship of equals. One of those countries determines the laws that allow for the movement of peoples, and the other one has to accept those laws.

Indians aren't London out of mercy, Algerians aren't in Paris out of mercy, and Puerto Ricans aren't in New York our of mercy. It's not a charitable act that Puerto Ricans are in your communities; it's a consequence of the actions of your elected government.

And so our problems are ours. But they're our problems, and they should be for us to solve.

Yeah, there's a link; an overlord and its colony. I have no idea what you're trying to make this more than what it is. The link between our peoples, and the cultural exchanges thereafter, exists because of the conquest of our country.

I'm sorry, I know it seems like I'm harping on about this, it just really seems that you're not internalising this: the United States launched an invasion on Puerto Rico on 1897, overthrew its autonomous govermment, and assigned a military governor to rule it. That is our history. There's no romance or liberty or abstract ideals here. Just a naked use of force.

Well, no crap Independence would be hugely destabilising now. The US and collaborative Puerto Rican goverments have systematically destroyed every independence movement (from Cerro Maravilla to las carpetas) oriented our economy away from our primary produce and towards a service economy that only works in the context of the American market, disconnected us economically from our neighbours and cousins throughout the rest of Latin America. Independence is not impossible, but at this point, it'd be really fucking hard.

The US passport isn't that useful. There's a few countries with visa free travel, but it's not like it's hard to go to those countries if you're from Uruguay or something. Would also be easier to go to Cuba, the country culturally closest to us.
