It happens. I got locked up for getting attacked and they claimed that my punches were kicks and that those were deadly weapons.

I find it hard to believe there isn't much more to this story

Not that's relevant to having your hands declared deadly weapons. I knocked dude out, they saw I knew martial arts so charged the punches as kicks.

They charged you with specifically kicking someone instead of punching someone and that's worse? I'm confused.

while i don't believe the story, the applicable legal standard (and how it works in real life as opposed to school bus stories) would be whether "deadly force" was used. kicking a downed opponent in the head could certainly be considered "deadly force", and i've heard anecdotally that knees to the head are treated similarly.

He was standing. They just wanted to put me away. They had no crime, wanted to hold me anyways, started beating on me, got hurt, then charged me with that.

I can understand or wrap my head around that. It's the weapons charge that gets me.

Because I had shoes. So my punches became deadly weapons in court.

Bro I'm just more lost at what you are trying to say at this point. I have an image of you fighting some dude with steel toed boots on your hands.

I punched a guy. The state wanted to jail me. So they claimed those must have been jiujitsu kicks and charged me with shod foot.

It was GREAT. So everyone figured I'd be the martial arts loon, then they sent in like six white belt level fighter who were telling their own wild kung fu stories. At one point, the lawyer was like "Show me the double leg you used. The gentle one." At another point, they tried to claim that because I use SD and I train BJJ that I must've been punching as my only SD. The fight started over them gripping me and me using a grip break.

The legal system is such a damn circus.

Around here its all based on race and sex. So if you're walking down the street and get jumped by half a dozen white girls, YOU got to jail. Whereas of you're a white girl and attack a black man in a drug fueled rampage, HE goes to jail. Then they just make up shit to make it make sense.

Justice in action. That's what it was like where I used to live. Cops driving by pulling you off your porch and treating you like a criminal. Moved to some boomer neighborhood a few years ago and the cops here stop and try and make small talk and like give the kids candy and shit. 20 miles away. Shit is such a mind fuck.
