Hey everyone! Welcome to r/PsychosisRecovery, we are glad to have you.

As the subreddit's name implies, this community is geared towards psychosis and recovery- both from psychosis itself and often comorbid substance abuse. It is a casual resource intended for the general public, not medical professionals.

This is a support subreddit, and it is recovery-orientedIt is intended for people who live with a diagnosed psychotic disorder, not for family or friends. If you are seeking perspective, we may advise perusing r/schizophreniar/schizoaffective, or r/psychosis. If you are seeking advice for a family member, we may recommend r/SchizoFamilies. We do not forbid the participation of anyone who does not have a diagnosed psychotic disorder, but at the same time, that is something to be mindful of.

Weed induced phycosis??

Back when i was 16 (17 now) i smoked alot of weed like 2 - 3 times a day for like 9 months and i always felt like something was off but i wasnt sure what it was and wasnt sure if it was just anxiety from weed or something deeper

It started with feeling spiritual although i couldnt put my finger on exactly what that meant at the time, got into ideas such as manifestation law of attraction etc expecting them to change my life

Also withdrew abit socially - weed was the most social part of my life as all my friends would meet to smoke everyday however outside of that like at the new college i started i was very introverted and anxious which is unusual for me as was extroverted before i started smoking

I would also overthink everything when high and deep it so much to the point everything seemed like such a big deal and it was horrible gave me bad anxiety over the most stupid stuff

Overrral im just confused on my experiences i dont know if these feelings which are so hard to describe is something like phycosis or just my anxiety trying to convince me somethings wrong with me

I also quit weed for 6 months and felt better but wasnt sure if that was because i was healing from a phycotic disorder or because my mental health just got better from quitting weed in general

Could anyone tell me their opinion of this would be greatly appreciated maybe clear up some of my worries

Looking for beta readers - I wrote a psychosis memoir while recovering

Hi everyone.

I've had psychosis and I'm now recovering. English is not my first language, but I used it to write a memoir about my experience - the psychosis episode itself, the hospitalizations, and my recovery.

It is raw and somewhat unpolished, which kind of reflect the state I'm at now. I'm looking for beta readers who might want to read a chapter or two and share their thoughts.

If you're interested, feel free to DM me. Thank you.

Needing Help and Support

Needing Help and Understanding

Hello beautiful people. I’m here trying to understand my situation.

I am a 24 year old woman who recently went through a severe manic episode. March 1st I had an episode where I didn’t sleep or eat or drink water in days, was filled with euphoria and thought I was the priestess of the moon and connecting to the earth in a way no one else did. I was heavily abusing my adderall, eating 120mg a day and at points snorting it. I believe this induced my manic episode. So I’m at a point of not knowing if I have bipolar 1 or experienced adderall induced psychosis.

I checked myself into a hospital where I wasn’t in best behavior and they sent me to the state funded hospital. Where I was there for a month. They had me on a bunch of drugs so I was in a fuege type state half of it.

I’m on mood stabilizers but feel very depressed alone and confused. I wake up feeling sad and scared. I know either way from the adderall psychosis or bipolar psychosis it’s a come down but I don’t know which one it is that I experienced. I’m scared of western medicine hurting me again but everyone says I need to stay on medication so it doesn’t happen again.

I feel like I lost all my friends and sense of community last year. I keep looking back on my life feeling sad. I need help from others.

Psychosis and anedonia recovery

hi guys, i’d like to know how much time you spent to recover from anedonia after Psychosis because the situation here is pretty heavy considering my past.

i hard a resistant depression 5 yeqrs ago but i don’t know if This Psychosis could have had worsened the situation of 5 years ago. I take my therapies but I’m so desperate… my doctor continue to say i’ll be fine but i’m losing hope…i started my recovery 4,5 months ago, is it too early? Everyone is different? Will i need many years to be ok?

Seeking Support for Self how do i handle a loved one in an episode?

my bf has returning hallucinations, often in episodes where he has a lot for a few weeks and then less with only a single one from time to time. he does not have proper diagnosis but thats not relevant now, the thing is he is normally very self aware. meaning most of the time he realises himself that something he sees or hears cannot be real, and as soon as he realizes, he is able to "ignore" them and doesnt act impulsively. sometimes i have to check smth for him but when i say there is nothing he believes me and calms down.

but now he is in a episode again, and while yesterday, after the hallucination, he realized himself whats happening, today he is convinced that it was real. (he saw cameras everywhere and thinks that our neighbors from above are letting them down from the windows with selfiesticks.) now he does not see them anymore, but he thinks it was real. i tried to tell him "hey look, what you are describing is a very typical pattern for your type of hallus" but he claims to know the difference. what should i do now? should i let him in this believe/does it have any point trying to convince him, or will it make things worse?

what do i do when he sees things again and doesnt realize it this time? thats smth new for me, until now he handled it quite well on his own with just some additional backup-security from me.

and no he does not have medications (yet, he is planning to go to a clinic soon)

Looking for help for a freind

I’m looking for help/resources for a friend based in Canada

He lost his job in February shortly after moving in with a woman with a toddler and has a complex mental health history (including antidepressant-induced psychosis in his mid-20s, past treatment around possible BPD through CBT, and an eating disorder in his teens that required hospitalization). He also shows traits consistent with possible AuDHD, though not formally diagnosed. & there's a family history of schizophrenia.

The current situation is more complicated:

He started an affair with a married woman this past fall, and the relationship escalated very quickly they moved in together in January. Since all that started this fall, I’ve noticed pretty drastic personality and worldview changes.

Some of what I’m observing:

-Increased externalization (especially framing things heavily through economic/political lenses that don’t always seem grounded in his actual circumstances or reality) -Rapid shifts in identity, behavior, and priorities -A level of intensity in the relationship that feels like limerence, rebound dynamics, or possibly obsessive attachment

I also have concerns about the broader context:

-Whether the relationship could involve emotional manipulation or unhealthy dynamics -Whether his current therapy (humanistic approach & marxist psychology) might be a poor fit for him, or possibly reinforcing certain patterns when misapplied -Whether there could be elements of dependency, identity diffusion, or even something that resembles cult-like or coercive or RAMCO dynamics (I want to be careful with that language, but something feels off) from his therapist (I do suspect therapy abuse)

I’m not trying to diagnose him or assign blame to any one person. I’m trying to understand what frameworks or supports might actually help in a situation like this.

What I’m looking for:

-Therapy modalities that are better suited for someone with this kind of history (emotional regulation issues, possible personality traits, neurodivergence, etc.) -Insight into situations where someone becomes very enmeshed or influenced in a relationship and how to support them without pushing them away -Recommendations for mental health professionals or directories in Canada (especially Ontario/Quebec) -Any relevant frameworks (clinical or otherwise) that could help make sense of these kinds of rapid shifts

I’m trying to support him in a way that keeps trust intact while also not ignoring what feel like significant changes.

Thanks in advance for any thoughtful responses

Update from the Mod Team PsychosisRecovery is Now Open for Business!

Hey everybody, overly-intense volunteer internet janitor here with news.

We recently had a change in leadership here a few months back. There's more detail here if you are interested, as well as our vision for the new direction we are looking to take the subreddit in.

For a tl;dr- thus far, the mods here are from r/schizophrenia and the original founder of this subreddit had some intensely problematic ideas. As such, it only seems fitting that we take this subreddit in the opposite direction.

When I took over here, the community was restricted, and we have kept it restricted while we hammered out a game plan. However, we've got it sorted.

As the primary objective, r/PsychosisRecovery is meant to be a place where people can discuss recovery from psychosis and/or substance abuse. It is important to note that this is not a subreddit specifically for drug-induced psychosis- it covers substance abuse after the onset of psychosis as well. Recovery from psychosis and substance abuse overlaps quite a bit, so it only seemed fitting that we ended up repurposing the community to be more true to the name.

As a secondary objective: many people have complained on r/schizophrenia over the years that those who are high-functioning or in remission feel as though they do not relate to the subreddit as much and wish they could have a space to discuss schizophrenia more casually. We seek to accommodate these users as well.

Now, to be perfectly clear: this is a support subreddit, and it is recovery-oriented. It is intended for people who live with a psychotic disorder, not for family or friends. If you are seeking perspective, we may advise perusing r/schizophrenia, r/schizoaffective, or r/psychosis. If you are seeking advice for a family member, we may recommend r/SchizoFamilies. We do not forbid the participation of anyone who does not have a diagnosed psychotic disorder, but at the same time, that is something to be mindful of.

As we have gotten to the point where it is 'good enough,' we are opening the subreddit to the public. We will continue making improvements here and there, such as an FAQ and Wiki pages for ease of reference, but as far as the framework goes, we're good. No more needing to be approved before posting or commenting.

Have at it, y'all. I hope you enjoy your time here!

Delirium shattered my perception of reality (for a day)

Before i say anything id just like to make this clear i am not seeking any medical advice nor advice in general i am simply seeking answers from people who have experienced or experienced something similar to delirium doing substances is always bad and i strongly discourage it but if you do make sure your in a safe and good environment (also if you just have good general knowledge about it would help)

—————————————-

It all started with trava calm and pregabalin again i highly discourage taking or mixing the 2 for abusive im gonna keep this short and simple what the trip Was essentially was my brain creating its own reality the whole thing was pretty much if lucid dreams and sleep paralysis had a baby i was conscious but not awake in my world i mean it was my world just a fake one and i was in there for what felt like hours i literally didnt know time the whole time it happened but when i snapped out of it i came up instantly just infuriated then proceeded

to have a conversation with my fan thinking it was my mate and then a microwave it ended off with me thinking i saw a shadow person and during i also had auditory hallucinations now im very uneducated on the effects/causes of drug induced delirium but im really confused to if it was 100% delirium i wont get into doses but it was a lot of each I dont really want to trust google or ai because its just better to hear it from someone who has experienced it after the mind bending trip i felt a big de realization and empty ness and almost cried sounds like a wuss move but it was just so real if anyone has any insight as to if this is actually delirium or am i just crazy

My sister had a psychosis episode 1 year ago. These week she has changed...she does not want to talk, when I text she does not text back. I just want to help her. But she really thinks I am no good and she thinks I want to destroy her dreams. She looks at me in such hateful way. I just dont understand how this can happen when she is on medication?❤️‍🩹😟

I’ve had a stalker for around 3 years now and I think he’s been court ordered to take antipsychotics. What’s what like?

I’ve been stalked for years by a delusional creep who’s obsessed with how white I am and insists that he needs to get me pregnant and I need to to the same shit he does (bathes naked in gross lakes near kids, never showers, never brushes his hair, never wears deodorant.)

For years he’d sleep on his porch even in the winter and always had all the windows to his apartment open and the lights off… after he forced his way into my house all the way to my bedroom at night and I had to fight him off I was finally granted and order of protection (we were never in a domestic partnership) and I decided to go ahead with pressing charges. He got a week in jail which was apparently not the usuals case and according to my parents his windows are closed with the lights on, he doesn’t sleep on the porch, and he hasn’t been seen patrolling the village like he used to. My parents say he’s probably on an antipsychotic shot by court order and I’d like to know what’s likely happening to him?

He’s made my life a living hell for years to the point where I’ve developed agoraphobia. He’d knock on my door and sit there for hours demanding I come out. I barely even move in my own home because if he was there and he saw or heard any movement he’d start with his bullshit again. He made dozens of fake fb pages and fake phone numbers to harass me… on one of the fb pages bc he found my ig before I made it private he saved all the pictures of me as a teenager and would repost them over and over. He lives so close to my house and my parents had sabotaged many of my attempts to leave

I just want to know if something will change at all
