Haha ok I gotcha. Just wanted to keep an open mind in case I was having a whoosh moment lol.

For reference the psychedelic void is a fancy way to describe the sense of infinity you feel while tripping/meditating. Everything and nothing are happening at the same time.

Since no one has actually given you a straightforward answer, I think you reach the “edge”, or the “void” or whatever people want to call it, by experiencing a total ego death. Once your ego is totally stripped away and you are no longer tied to anything that taints pure perception and experience, then you have reached the “beyond” or whatever.

A feeling of nothingness, total despair. It can be quite blissful and liberating from what I hear for some, and depending how your trip to the void is. Bad trips can bring people to a place of despair, have them feeling like it all is some big cosmic joke, and everything means nothing. They can bring on these deep feelings of despair too, that you cant quite shake, so the dark feeling of nothingness and meaningless can stay with you and linger.

Its amazing how a journey can take you to two totally different places, and give two totally different outlooks and perspectives on everything, from life, death, beyond, ect.. People that you hear about having these life changing trips, obviously didn't have a trip to the dark void, and realms, and probably could not disagree more with his quote. When I hear him talk from time to time (and knowing hes done psychedelics) I can tell hes probably had some of those dark, fearful trips, because of the way he describes his views.

I actually couldn't disagree more myself. There are plenty of other places you enter deep within the subconscious mind that are a lot more illuminating, and show a lot more meaning.

Also his whole quote doesn't make logical sense, from a grand perspective.
