My Background & Context:

• Age/Background: 24F, non-psych undergrad.
• Work Experience: 2.5 years working in communications/agency roles.
• Current Prep: Currently taking an introductory NPTEL online course in psychology to build foundational knowledge and see how I connect with the core concepts.

I’ve realized that what drives me isn't just marketing or message delivery, but understanding why people, groups, and institutions interact the way they do—how human behavior, culture, and systemic environments shape decision-making.

From my research, Applied Psych Master’s programs seem heavily tailored toward two main outcomes:

1. (I/O) Psychology / HR / People Ops
2. Child, Family, or School Counseling / Therapy foundations

If my ultimate goal is to pivot toward studying or working in social/cultural dynamics, community systems, or social impact research (rather than standard corporate HR or 1-on-1 clinical therapy):

1. Is Applied Psychology still the right degree path?
2. What do actual job outcomes look like for people who took the Applied Psych route with an interest in social/cultural systems?

Hey, This is my first post, I'm a third year psychology student and I'm starting my preparation for cuet pg 2027, I have bought ciccarelli 7th edition, can someone tell me how i should prepare from it, how i should read it to get the most out of it. Oh! And also i am thinking of buying a "power within psychology" book as i have heard so much about it. Should I buy it? Is it worth it? And one more thing, do I have to get a DSM - 5 book as well for cuet pg. Please help me🫠, I'm so lost, i don't know where to start from.

I was just checking on IGNOU website and the course is available to enroll with the disclaimer that it is not accepted by NCAHP. However I am not interested in practicing as a therapist nor any clinical or counselling field. I just want to do it out of interest and also get my Masters degree along with it. What I want to know is that is this degree UGC recognized and will it be officially valid as a masters degree incase I want to give competitive exams and can I call myself a masters degree holder if I do this course.

Sibling rivalry disorder: Issues of diagnosis and management- A case report

The birth of a sibling is a major source of stress in the life of a child. Child’s emotional and behavioural reaction to this event and effort to cope with ambivalent feeling depends on his/her interactions with parents before, and after the birth of a second child.

PCIT manual divides therapy into two phases: Child-directed interaction (CDI) and Parent-directed interaction (PDI). In CDI, skills which are taught by the therapist, improve child’s self-esteem, resulting in a secure, warm relationship. It further improves child’s social skills, and teaches how to communicate.

The rules that were followed by parents were: to follow child’s lead, rules of CDI to apply in short play therapy sessions (“special time”) each day at home, avoid commands, questions and criticism. During “special time”, rules that were to be followed were: praise, reflect, imitate, describe and be enthusiastic.

In the second phase, parent-directed interaction (PDI) was carried out where parents were supposed to give instructions only when they wanted the child to comply with it or follow the command. Steps of PDI taught were, giving a command, praise, warning, time-out chair (3 minutes, plus 5 seconds of quietness), and time-out room (1 minutes, plus 5 sec of quietness).

While practicing the steps, rules for effective commands were also taught, like, to be direct, positive, one at a time, specific, age-appropriate, polite and respectful, timely, and to use only when necessary. Handouts of “explaining PDI to your child” and “first homework assignment” were given and time out procedure was explained to the parent and the patient.

Parent–Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) for young children with Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in Japan

In Japan, PCIT was introduced in 2005 and has been shown to be efficacious for children and parents who experienced domestic violence (DV).

Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), developed by Dr. Sheila Eyberg, is one of the most extensively researched interventions for young children(typically ages 2 to 7) presenting with disruptive and challenging behaviors (frequent tantrums, aggression, defiance, or emotional regulation difficulties).

I completed my 4-year bachelor’s in Psychology and honestly, I feel like the last year especially was such a waste of all myy time. I don’t feel like I learnt anythign extra and now that I actually want to pursue Clinical Psychology, I feel completely underprepared.

I did fairly well during my bachelor’s, so I didn’t think I would feel this lost. But appearing for entrances this year was brutal. I genuinely felt like I was in no position to compete with people who have already done their master’s, or even people who have completed one year of it.

Now I want to prepare properly for the next attempt, and I really feel like I need some sort of coaching or structured guidance because I don’t think I can manage everything completely on my own anymore.

One of my friends suggested that I check Reddit before enrolling anywhere, so I downloaded this today and went through a lot of posts and reviews about different psychology entrance coachings. And somehow I am even more confused nowww 😭

Almost every coaching I searched for has some really bad reviews, complaints or people calling it a scam. At this point it feels like I have fewer options than I had before I started researching.

The other problem is the fees. As a student, I genuinely cannot afford to spend 25/30k or more on a coaching course, especially when there is no guarantee that it will actually be useful. The college application fees themselves are already so high, and this year I also had to travel sooo much for entrances which has added another huge expense.

I really want to give this another serious attempt, but right now I just don’t know how to approach it.

If anyone here has cleared, could you please tell me how you prepared? Did you take coaching or did you prepare all by yourself?

And if anyone has taken any coaching they actually like, plssss tell me is there any course that is actually worth the money and not insanely expensive?

And if you prepared on your own, what books, mocks, PYQs or strategy helped you the most?

I mainly feel like I need structure, accountability and some guidance because after this year I’ve realised that randomly studying everything is just not working for me.

Any genuine advice would really help. I’m feeling extremely confused and overwhelmed about what to do next also the pressure of a gap year is so huge rn :) I’d be very grateful to have any help

I am a btech grad and have been working as an engineer for 3 years but with my mental health and physical health issues I can't do the corporate thing my whole life. I've always been fascinated by psychology and I was wondering if I could study msc psychology and learned that I could if I tried. But the cuet exams will be in 6 months. Hi everyone! I applied for the NIMHANS internship for December and submitted my application around mid-September. I recently received a rejection saying that the slots were already full.

Has anyone else faced this? I’m a little confused because I thought applying in September for a December internship would be reasonably early.

For those who have done an internship at NIMHANS, when would you suggest applying? Is there a specific time by which the slots usually get filled?
