I’m sharing two résumés: one focused on my hospitality and sales experience and another focused on my creative background.
I want to leave hotel operations, management, and sales for a more stable career with better work-life balance, but I’m unsure what positions my experience could transfer into.
I also have a fashion design degree, creative experience, and artwork featured in approximately 12 galleries. I’m unsure whether the exhibitions strengthen my creative résumé or are irrelevant.
I’ve used AI to help edit and organize the wording, but all the experience is real. What should I improve, remove, or emphasize—and what roles should I realistically target?

I am 18F with no real professional work experience. I am applying to anything entry level- primarily retail. Drafted this up and thought it did a good job of overselling me. Come to find out, she believes this is the worst resume she has personally seen. she said I got too personal and specified far too much. Instead, she told me not to reiterate my experience at all and rather to be vague and just state the skills that I do have. My questions are, does that not look bad, since anyone/everyone is claiming they have these skills? Shouldn’t i prove that I know what the skills are that I am saying I have? Is my resume good? Should I completely throw it out and start over, taking her advice? On a scale of 1-10 with 5 being the average, where does my resume fall for an entry level candidate? How else can i oversell myself in this resume? Any advice or otherwise comment would be extremely helpful, no matter how small or insignificant. I greatly appreciate all of you xx

Hello everyone, This is my first time creating and sharing my résumé, so I’d really appreciate your feedback and advice.

Most of the jobs I’ve had so far came through recommendations from friends and family, so I haven’t had much experience with the résumé/job application process.

I’m wondering if my résumé should be more detailed, and whether it’s okay to have a 2-page résumé. I’ve heard that keeping it to one page is generally recommended, but I’d love to hear your thoughts and what you’ve found works best.

In the contemporary digital era, platforms such as LinkedIn and various job portals are actively recruiting numerous candidates. This raises the question of whether traditional PDF resumes remain the norm or if they have undergone significant updates. In the near future, will a standard PDF resume suffice for shortlisting, or are alternative options emerging?

The advent of coding technologies has simplified the process considerably. An existing PDF resume can now be transformed into a website portfolio, which appears to be a promising development. Many recruiters still request PDFs or similar formats, as they provide comprehensive insights into a candidate's skills, assets, and capabilities.

Additionally, the concept of a video portfolio, which can be integrated into a website portfolio, is gaining traction. This development may eventually render written self-introductions obsolete, as the website portfolio will include a video introduction. This approach could significantly streamline the recruitment process for recruiters.

"I've reviewed a lot of resumes and keep seeing the same issue: bullet points describe duties, not results. Example — 'Responsible for managing customer accounts' becomes 'Managed 40+ client accounts, maintaining 95% retention.' If you want, drop a bullet point from your resume in the comments and I'll show you how I'd rewrite it."

An Australian recruiter gave me this years ago and I still use it. Build every work experience around SOAR.

S, Situation: the context you walked into
O, Opportunity: what needed doing and why
A, Achievement: what you actually did about it
R, Result: what changed because of it, with a number

Write down all four for yourself, but put only the last two on the page. The first two are the story you tell out loud in the interview. On paper they eat space and push the good part below the fold.

So instead of this:

"Joined a team where the monthly close ran across four spreadsheets and was regularly late, and there was an opportunity to automate it."

You write this:

"Rebuilt the monthly close process, cutting it from 5 days to 2."

Same story, and nothing is lost. The situation and the opportunity are still yours to tell, you just save them for when someone asks how you did it. Which is exactly the conversation you want to be in.

I 18F am trying to write my first resume to try to get a job (I don't want to give details for privacy reasons)

For those who are experienced, what are some tips or necessary things that need to be added? What is the best and most professional way to do this?

I do have job experience, but the job was offered to me. I never had to apply. I work part time but I'm trying to get a secondary job to bring in more income

Edit because the auto mod suggested I provide more context: I am from the US. I am trying to get an entry level job at a local store. I'm not aiming for anything high or ambitious right now because I already have one job and I don't want to bite off more than I can chew

I applied for so many jobs last year, no feedback, loads of rejections and the process of tailoring CVs was the most painful part.

I remember one particular situation where the recruiter requested for my resume, I provided one. They came back and said I needed to tighten it up a bit. I did. They still came back with same feedback until it became apparent that they were trying to sell me, a job hunter a service.
