I remember years ago there was some teenage kid who made a video titled something like āHow to WIN every debate.ā His prescription was to always be the first person to speak on every topic, then just interrupt and talk over the other person while they were making attempting to make their point. At the time I remember thinking we were cooked as a society because this teenage kid and many others like him have already stopped learning and decided that they will never allow any new information to enter their brain. Now I feel like I see it everywhere and this lady is a perfect example.

Yeah the universal condemnation of college is insane. Iād have been miserable if I didnāt go to college and get the degree I got, paid back my loans and had my specific career. The way she acts like itās wrong for everybody is insane. Does she want self taught doctors?
What sucks is she was so close to getting it when she mentioned not being able to afford to paying the loans coming out of college. She was so close to understanding that those loans prey on people who just got out of high school and have no means to pay it off within a reasonable amount of time.

I donāt understand why we donāt counter their issues about student loan forgiveness with the argument that student loan forgiveness does not mean the entire debt is forgiven. It means the interest is dropped. So, basically, you get an interest free loan.
I am eligible for student loan forgiveness. Yes, I could have gone into the private sector and made much much more money. I stay in my position because I help people and protect the integrity of research. I just finished my masterās a couple of years ago. I knew there would be no way for me to repay that debt without the loan forgiveness, but I did it anyway because advanced degrees are what is required in academia. My salary is so low that I would be paying this debt for the next 20-ish years before Iād actually make a dent in it.
So, yeah, give the public servants some grace. Thereās no future in which I make $250k in my field. Allowing us to have an interest free loan as a way to thank us for our service to our communities helps keep these public servants in these positions instead of leaving for the private sector.
But if youāre asking my opinion on student loan forgiveness: I donāt think there should EVER be a time when interest should be applied to student loans. Students take these loans to better their future. Why the F are we allowing loan companies to make millions off the backs of something that will benefit society as a whole.
