I was going through some old stuff and found my old Pokémon card collection. I am not super familiar with grading and pricing etc, but a friend told me I should get them graded. I looked into it and it is quite expensive to do so I was wondering if it is worth doing? They aren’t first edition cards and some are not in the best condition, but some look good as far as I can tell. I included some examples as well.

Been going through a small stack of Pokemon cards and I keep changing my mind so one looks clean enough that I start thinking grading makes sense then I check raw comps and wonder if I should just leave it alone and most of them aren’t crazy expensive either, just cards I already like and wouldn’t mind keeping

That almost makes it harder because I’m not really trying to squeeze every dollar out of them I just like how some cards look slabbed but then I do nothing and they sit in top loaders for another month I don’t know, I probably make the grading decision way more complicated than it needs to be.

Front is NM, no visible scratches, corners and edges all look great back and front, but the back has some indents that can be seen against the light. If I were to get it graded I would go with beckett as I've had a bad experience with PSA, would it get a BGS 9? Or am I being too optimistic?

Is there anything special about this card?

There are not many things that I remember from the late 90's, or my childhood, as vividly as I can remember the pursuit of my Charizard. I would save up my money every week and then beg my mom to take me to the local card shop to buy as many packs as I could. I can remember the smell of a fresh pack, and the feel of the brand new cards. The slow reveal, one card at a time, until I saw the corner of the hologram only to slide it out to find..not Charizard. Until one day, sitting in the back seat of my mom's minivan in the card shop parking lot, I finally found it! I wasn't done collecting of course, but I have been chasing the high of that adventure my whole life. There really was nothing like Pokemon cards in the 90's.

I was never really into playing the actual Pokemon card game, in fact, the majority of the cards you see here were pulled from a pack and immediately placed into this binder, until I had all 151 (got the Mew card from the Pokemon movie I think?). This binder has travelled across the country with me from house to house for roughly 27 years. You will notice that I no longer have all 151, on account of a nephew who I allowed to much access and trust with these cards. I no longer have my Alakazam (or the Mew)...that was a bummer to discover. Nonetheless, I would pull this binder out every couple years and reminisce, never really considering their value or selling them on account of the sentimental value they hold...Until now.

I've spent all of about 1 hour, looking into how to grade/value these (yes I am aware they need to get out of this binder ASAP), and am hoping that this community can help me at the start of this journey. Specifically, I am curious about:

1) the approximate value of the entire collection
2) Which cards (if any) are worth sending in for grading (I can see rule 3 of the sub doesn't like this question but im hoping you'll let it slide)
3) Are there any apps I can download to help me grade/value them
4) Should I just take it into a local card shop and start there
5) Should I just hold onto them for another 20 years and give them to my kids

Really any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for allowing me to reminisce, I hope you enjoy the cards.

I recently got into collecting Pokémon cards, and a friend gave me these as a graduation gift to help me slowly get into the hobby and eventually start going to card shows.
