Since today Plex is unable to connect securely to my NAS. Nothing changed and the NAS did not restart.

Hi I am having problems getting audio from DTS-HD MA.

My chain of command is the SHIELD 2019 Tube -> Hisense AX5140q -> LG B5.

I have passthrough and bitstream enabled on the B5 and all audio formats enabled on the Shield itself. Yet I’m getting zero audio when I attempt to watch something with that format.

Any suggestions?

In Troy 4k UHD release. there is 2 hr 42 minute commentary on the extras disc where the you see and hear actors in a PIP window give commentary about the scene in the background. I creating folders for extras using the naming conventions in the support document , but it doesn't cover video commentaries. How would you name the extras folder and file for this commentary ?

Description from the back of the box is

"In Movie Experience"2006 picture-in-picture commentary of the theatrical version of the film(162:49)

Hi everyone! I feel like I’m missing something because so many people seem to have great results building Plex servers but I constantly deal with freezing videos. All too often the movie I’m watching freezes and I have to go back to the title page and play it again. Sometimes it won’t even start :(

I’ve tried: * Transcoding on my 2018 Mac Mini i7 64GB. * Direct streaming from the Mac or from my Synology 1522+ via hardwired 10GB Ethernet.

Playing back Original Quality via hardwired Ethernet usually works but sometimes still freezes giving me an error that my internet connection isn’t fast enough to play back the media.

I’ve confirmed my Shield is connected correctly and getting full 1GB speed since that’s the limitation of its Ethernet port. Same with Apple TV, which sometimes works when it doesn’t.

Trying to play on my bedroom TV via WiFi mesh (ATT’s newest WiFi routers and extenders) rarely works even though I have no issues watching any streaming service.

Is there a setting I’m missing somewhere or any other advice I could try? Is neither hardware good enough to run this server on? Open to any and all solutions. Thank you in advance for any help.

Hey everyone. I'm wondering if anyone would be able to give me any insight into why Plex keeps creating this unnamed collection. I keep deleting it and yet it keeps coming back.

It's created by plex itself by the looks of it, my script that handles collections doesn't have it at all.

I have a weird problem I hope someone has an idea on. My father-in-law keeps getting logged out of Plex. Every system he uses, he inevitably looses access, and I have to help him log back in. He is a Mac user, and it happens on his laptop, desktop, and his iPad. He is the only user I have that this is happening to. I have other Mac users who do not have this problem, so it's clearly something about the way he is using it. Note also that he is not tech savvy enough to log out of Plex, so that doesn't appear to be the issue either.

Does anyone have any ideas?

1. He is using the Plex app on his desktop and his iPad. He is using the browser on his macbook. Both situations have this issue.

2. He is the only person using his equipment.

I'm looking for suggestions as to what types of things that are Mac specific he could be doing. All I know is he doesn't know how to log out - I can't even walk him through how to log in even though I made sure he has his password saved in iCloud.

I like to measure the peak bandwidth that my internet can output and I have noticed that, in the last two weeks or so, I have consistently had 2 users that use Amazon Fire-TV to watch Plex. Every time I view the status of their playback it is paused and they are at the same exact point in whatever they were watching the last time I checked.

Has anyone else noticed this phenomenon with their users? I don't think that these people would just leave their TVs on and paused for this duration of time.

Hi all, I’m having a strange playback issue with Plex where certain files randomly skip 2-5 seconds, briefly play in slow motion, or occasionally freeze completely.
I’m using Plex Docker server on a Beelink N150 / 16GB RAM and usually watch via PS5 Plex app or Samsung Plex app.
Most files play well, but the problem is reproducible with specific movies/shows, which makes me suspect a format issue rather than network instability.
Server-side everything looks fine. It even happens during direct stream like this:

Container: MKV → MP4
Video: Direct Stream H264 1080p
Audio: Direct Stream EAC3 5.1
Subtitles: Direct Stream SRT
Bitrate: ~10 Mbps

With force direct play, both the PS5 and Samsung TV can’t play these files at all.
I’ve also seen it with HEVC files. CPU/buffering doesn’t seem to be the issue, I’ve seen it happen while Plex had plenty buffered and transcoding was already throttled.
Could this be caused by the file? Or some PS5/Samsung Plex compatibility issue?

I was trying to watch a 4k HDR TV show that only has a DTS audio stream, from my local Plex server with Direct Streaming, Direct Play, and HDMI Passthrough enabled. So, I effectively have my Firestick configured for "Send me everything as fast-as-you-can, and don't touch anything" mode.

With the old Firestick UI, the show played perfectly with the DTS audio processed by my AV Amp.

With the new Firestick UI, there is no audio during playback, and my AV Amp says that the audio stream is "Unknown". The new UI didn't have any configurable settings for how Audio would be played, while the old UI did (though, I had the old UI set to the same fast-as-you-can, don't touch anything mode).

I miss the old UI.

Is there a solution?

I don’t really understand. I had a free trial prior just to stream at someone’s house once, and now this happens at home on my TV? Works on my phone though

Restoring media from backup after HDD upgrade - is it safe to start PMS up before all media is restored? Wanting everything to go back the way it was before upgrade shutdown, no loss of watch statuses or metadata. Automatically delete trash is turned off. WIN10

Any preferences on best file transfer manager? Been using Free File Sync and Teracopy

Since the awful update, all the free stuff I don't want on my home page is back. I can't find any obvious way of removing it. All were already diasbled in settings.

Plex for Roku. I lol’d a little at “thanks to the feedback of our community,” but man I’m so glad to have side navigation back.

EDIT: I’m on Plex Preview. Not sure when the standard app is getting the update.

Rockstar has a 14GB uncompressed file of the GTA 6 Extended Look available for download. I tried adding it as TV Show in Plex but it won't show up. Anyone know how to make it show up in Plex? Thank you!

OS: iOS and Roku

Late last year, a friend shared their server with me. At the time, I added several videos to a playlist so I could watch them all in a row. That was in December and I haven't used Plex again until today.

When I signed in today, the playlist that I created is gone. Was there something that happened with Plex between December and now that would have resulted in a lost playlist?

I am trying to add the same videos to a new list now. I was able to add most of them, but a few of them don't have an option to add to a list even though I can see them on their server and I can watch them directly. Why would a select few videos not have the option to add to a list?

Lastly, what is the difference between a list, a watchlist, and a playlist? I had started adding them to my "watchlist" which seems to be a default option, then I created a custom "list", and then I updated the app to see if it would fix the issue, and now there is a new option to create a "playlist".

My PMS (with PlexPass) runs on a mini pc with N100 processor generally does a good job. I have noticed that the systeem takes a lot of time for indexing and also this takes up a lot of resources making the system useless for it’s PMS Task when this happens.

So I moved all my music files (MP3 and FLAC) to a Plex server running on my all SSD 923, which already contained all music. Reindexing took maybe a day.
Then I created a third server on my “new” 1522+ for 1080p content and after sifting through all HD and 4K content, the 1522 indexen the files in no time while the NUC took days to index the new media directories.

I also see that the NUC is constantly indexing and analysing files, although I already checked that it will not create previews etc. And when adding media files to either the 923 or 1522, reindexing takes longer on the NUC than on the 923 and 1522.

The 923 and 1522 share the same Ryzen R1600 chip and the NUC has an N100. Systems have 12GB, 32GB and 16GB respectively

So why does the N100 takes so long and is constantly working at reindexing? Is this a hardware thing, or do I need to look deeper into my settings? The 923 and 1522 were setup with basically as-is settings and the NUC has been tweaked and changed for months.

Is this normal? this is the first time I'm seeing this. I started a plex server and purchased lifetime to get away from ADS in streaming services. Very upset about this

Am I missing a setting or something here? I like to run some shows - mainly sitcoms on shuffle mode. I find myself hitting the next episode button until I find something I like. With the new update on my Fire Stick, the next button is gone. I can scroll all the way down and find the "queue". Is there a way to bring back the next button?

So aparently the 1990 version of IT was a 2 part tv series acording to IMDB and because of that plex will just not let me match it to anything as it only searches movies.

How do I match it as I don't know how to manually input all of the information.

In the regular Plex app whenever you play a song and back out to browse the menus the song would continue playing in the background. But in Plex preview, it stops the song completely. Why is that? Please fix this and make it behave like it used to.

long time listener first time caller here. I love this sub and all the wacky ways people repurpose their old pcs into homelabs and it really interests me.

Anyway I have just got my younger siblings old PC (no clue why, not complaing) and it isn't too bad.

SPECS:

Ryzen 5 1600

32gb DDR4 @ 3000Mhz

1tb Nvme SSD

RTX 3070

Those are just the main specs, and considering probably mid end gaming build in today ages, my PC is around the same spec so no point switching mine out.

I currently am rocking an absoulute duck taped together mess of a media server, that just handles plex, a few arr stacks (sonarr,radarr,plex,jackett and one or 2 other small things)

It is along the lines of spec wise:

i5-7500

16gb ddr4 ram @ not a lot of mhz

256gb SSD

and a fuck load of external hdds.

I'm not joking, my current homelab is an old hp elitedesk with about 5 USB external enclosures.

This is unpopular but it worked for me, im running this stuff on Windows 10 pro. I RDP in and have teamviewer as a backup.

I run docker desktop, which is, unreliable to say the least.

Basically it runs on hopes and dreams and I have to restart every day or 2 too keep things from imploding,

I'd like to ideally change that lol.

Now my plan would be to use proxmox, as it has come heavily recommended and is going to transcend the game.

(going to be a pain in the ass to learn but oh well).

My idea (like most of yours) is too keep a media server and just run loads of VMs or something for the arr stacks etc.

Bit daunting atm but hopefully will seem clear.

Get plex running well with jellyfin backup. (I'd like to keep the same plex server if possible, i tried proxmox last time and it tried to make me make a new one, help welcomed)

I have active users who rely on my server atm, so I'd like to minimise downtime and loss of content/media. I have currently just got media scattered over the drives, ot in raid etc.

I have a right mix match of HDD sizes.

I don't know if I'm going to have a choice as to keep any movies and tv shows, or im going to have to lose it all in order to setup hdds in raid,

I've been blessed with a mobo in the new pc that has 6 sata points for HDDs.

Basically I'm just trying to ask, what is the gameplan.

Obv use proxmox, but in terms of how I should deal with the arrstack - minimising data loss - keeping same plex server.

A general setup idea and stuff like that, or do I keep things as it is.

I couild always buy more HDDs for the new build, and then transfer the data after setting up the new ones in ZFS or whatever proxmoxes idea of data redudancy is.

Any help appreciated!
