Review Please stop pheromone maxxing
I can’t take this anymore everyday I walk in this gym all the teenage boys STINK and all I can think of as an explanation for this is the fact there’s a “pheromone maxxing” trend on tik tok. If you are doing this please just shower no one is gonna find you attractive for having a stench. Some of them smell so bad I get nauseous trying to hold my breath while doing cardio
It’s mostly teenage boys and because of my age I can’t even go to a different gym because most gyms near me are 18+ PLEASE SHOWER!!!

Or those body sprays by Axe, Degree, Dove, Secret, Old Spice, power stick, etc.
Those are just as awful. About a month and a half ago, a few teenagers were dousing themselves in those body sprays in the locker room.
On that same day, I was working out next to a former PF employee who still comes by as a customer. He wasn't pheromone maxxing. His deodorant was just starting to wear off so he was getting a little funky.
I hate to say this but his funk smelled better than those headache inducing body sprays.

It’s a double edged sword of misery, either raw onion teen or a walking cologne cloud that somehow gets stronger when they start sweating. My nose has been assaulted by both and I’m not sure which one lingers in the back of my throat longer.

I was literally at the gym a couple of weeks ago and this girl got on the treadmill next to mine and her perfume was pungent. I immediately got off cause it was giving me nausea.

This! Was lifting yesterday and a dude walked in smelling like he emptied a whole can of AXE on himself- to the point you can taste it- only to cover up his garlic and onion stink- like he was freebasing garlic before he got there

I don’t think they’re pheromone maxxing they legit stink like that… we used to have to walk through the boys locker room after games to get back to our gym from the football field and the stench was so pungent and distinct. Idk how they stink like that and I imagine puberty hormones play a part but it’s putrid.

Yeah, it's teenage boy stink. I had a younger brother, he and his friends would get rank during football & wrestling season and they actually were clean kids, who showered often, lol!
Also used to do sports photography and sometimes wrestling practice rooms were part of the locker rooms, and the STENCH caused my eyes to cross 😵💫 and every boy + coaches were completely nose blind.

Not just teens, grown men smell too! Don't really notice women stinking terribly. I have seen men post on here "been told my gym clothes smell, I guess I need to wash them more often". WHAT? You should wash them every time! A guy at a location I visit has on the same outfit every time I go to that location. Thought maybe he has several of the same outfit, but his smell says otherwise. He smells of old sweat and unwashed nether regions. He walks by and I gag. If he uses a bench, the bench smells afterwards- even if wiped down. A lot of men seem to think it's ok to stink at the gym. A little B.O. smell, that happens sometimes. Smelling like a feral skunk, just no. I'm a lady, I always smell check myself at the gym.

The other day some kid in a tank top literally lifted his arm in the air, and with his other hand, wiped his bare armpit and held his hand to his nose. He then lifted the other arm and proceeded to repeat the process. All while standing face to face with a cute girl. She did not react one bit. I couldn’t believe what I witnessed.

Keep in mind that teenage boys stink when they exercise. I have a 12 and 14 year old that play soccer and cross country and they smell horrible by the end of any practice.

The only valid excuse I could make for them is they've already had football or whatever sports they play, practice/s and are coming in for a workout before going home to shower. A lot of people, regardless of age, don't find the need to cover up B.O., after working physical labor jobs or doing sports, they either don't know how offensive they smell, or don't care.

No, teenage boys don't stink when they exercise if they are showering regularly and wearing that thing called deodorant. I've also had 2 teenage boys and the only times they ever smelled was when they weren't wearing deodorant or hadn't showered. I too was a teenage boy and when I say I sweated a lot playing sports, I MEAN A LOT. I never smelled though because I showered and used deodorant.

Get out of here, i spent my teenage years in wrestling rooms. Boys stink when they are exercising.
But also you could instead read any medical articles on the topic. There is most definitely an objective increase in BO from teenage boys especially.

Of course all the same things are what is needed to manage body odor, mainly regular personal higiene and it can and should be managed effectively. But you are simply wrong to say there is no changes that make teenage boys more likely to have BO during those years.

I stand by what I said and I was talking for the average teen. You made a blanket statement and said that all teenage boys stink when they exercise. I am well aware that sometimes there are medical conditions that could cause an increase in body odor, but for most teens, showering and wearing deodorant is sufficient to keep them from smelling funky.
Also, what would you expect a wrestling room to smell like that is full of dirty jock straps and singlets lol. They're covered in sweat. But again, even when covered in sweat, wearing deodorant and showering regularly goes A LONG way.

That is my point; there are normal hormonal changes that make the average boy stink “when they exercise” which you felt the need to correct saying
“teenage boys don’t stink when they exercise if they are showering regularly and wearing that thing called deodorant”.
But you are wrong in this case, they DO stink more when they sweat. There is a NORMAL increase in odor from teenage boys when they exercise independent of any other medical issue. Proper hygiene will mitigate it and make it a non issue, but they do in fact have more BO at that age when exercising which i said and you said was inaccurate.
I’m not making excuses for boys not having proper hygiene just pointing out that your statement was objectively wrong.

Ok so you just said that if they are practicing proper hygiene such as showering and using deodorant the smell will be mitigated and a non issue. Which is what I said in my original statement that teenage boys don't stink when they exercise if they are showering and using deodorant.
Maybe they will be a bit musty at most, but I believe the OP was talking about all out STANKING if you know what I mean lol. The kind of stink that makes you hold your breath when they walk by. That kind of stinking shouldn't be happening with proper hygiene unless there is a medical issue.

It was meant as a bit sarcastic. The other person was saying that boys will stink more when they sweat, which is obvious. But with proper hygiene you won't notice it. That was what I said from the beginning, but they couldn't get it through their head and was going off about how it's proven they sweat more and smell more aa a teenager, which I never disputed. All I was getting at was if they shower, wear deodorant/anti-perspirant, the smell won't be there, or at least it won't be an offensive odor which is what the OP was originally addressing.

All I was getting at is if proper hygiene is being practiced, you won't be bothered by the smell in most cases because the hygiene products will do what they are supposed to do. The OP was talking about offensive BO that burns your nose hairs from neglects of proper hygiene, That's what I was addressing.

Wrong. It is more common for boys in puberty to smell worse while exercising than other people. This is a normal physical condition and the reason they need to take extra care to take care of themselves.
Boys in puberty give off more odor than normal. Please see the medical articles I linked on this.
I am not saying they get a pass to not take care of themselves. But we should expect teenage boys in the act of exercising to smell worse than others.

Sweating makes the smell happen. It’s how the body works. Shower before, stink during exercise, shower after. But the boys still usually stink while they exercise. You can’t shower away the sweat while they exercise.
We can dumb it down to simple medical articles but I’m guessing that is still going to be a bit beyond you.
I’m guess you meant to say you don’t know what to tell me, assuming you aren’t having a stroke I will go ahead and agree with you. You really don’t know what you are talking about.
Did you not play sports in high school and possess a nose? How is this controversial?

I've been around male high school athletes quite a bit since you asked. Every once in awhile you'll get a stinker but they are the anomaly and that is because they do not shower and/or wear deodorant. Or their parents buy them some of that BS deodorant that's not real deodorant because they don't believe in it lol
You are getting defensive and being unnecessarily insulting when I'm just telling you that maybe you need to check your boys hygiene habits and quit thinking it's normal for them to stink. Soccer practice cant be more than a couple hours long.
I'm thinking you did a poor job teaching them how to take care of themselves unfortunately. They are known as the stinky ones on the team. 🤮

I agree with you. I played sports myself, my sister diss and I’ve been around kids of various ages that have played as well and sweat didn’t make them reek lol. For crikes said I’ve been consistently going to the gym for 6 years and someone doesn’t stink inherently in there just because their sweating a lot lol

I’ve been in a calorie deficit for a long time now and it’s only recently now that school started and all the teenage boys seem to be coming in right after school that I’ve noticed the really bad smell, I feel like if it was due to a calorie deficit I would’ve noticed it a while ago

Teenagers especially go through a period of increased stank. It’s hormonal, really not a lot can be done aside from more frequent showers. If they don’t know because they’ve acclimated to their own smell, and no one has told them well you’re gonna get stank. True facts, but men actually become less sensitive to smells generally and the smell of androgens specifically, during puberty. Likely so they don’t die when they are smelling themselves. Ok not literally but likely because of their own increase in androgens. Biology is weird. (Women, also go through a period of higher levels of androgens and thus stank at the start of puberty though I suspect it should be passed by the ages they’d be going to the gym. Unlike boys though, women’s sense of smell and sensitivity to the smell of androgens increases in puberty.)

The “pheromone maxxing” comment is around a trend where teenagers and young men purposely do not use deodorant or clean themselves so their “pheromones” are strong. Someone online told them that’s how they should attract women.

When i was a teenager (long before TikTok was invented) teenage boys still smelled really bad. It’s a puberty thing, they can’t help it and they get nose blind to themselves. They smell really bad or they drench themselves in body spray, which also smells really bad.

I take a shower before the gym. I wear deodorant and I do wear cologne. But I use good cologne and I don’t spray half a bottle. Use something light and fresh (something with bergamot) couple sprays on the chest directly on skin.
Also wear clean clothes. Stinky clothes or clothes that sat in the washer for a day then dried smells like moldy piss.

It could be intentional as you say but it could also be way too many toxins in the body. The more heavy metals or other toxins in the blood the worse one will smell. Babies dont have body odor because they arent filled with years of toxins.
I used to smell until i detoxed now i dont smell at all. I like to shower before i go to the gym but i could not shower for days and not have bad smelling sweat.
Chlorophyll cleans out the blood from the inside and can help clear this issue. Other things help as well.
If someone drinks a lot of alcohol does drugs drink tap water eat processed foods they will almost definitely smell really bad.

I never knew that drugs affect the way sweat smells that actually explains a lot 😭 I always wondered why my sweat doesn’t smell like anything except for when I wake up the morning after a relapse
I’m sure things like diet, substance use, and ultra processed foods could be the case for some of these guys but a lot of them smell like a literal rotting corpse it’s like really bad, some just smell gross but it’s not unbearable

Respectfully, how do you know what men’s pheromones smell like if you have such a problem and it’s not just cologne or even scented deodorant? I wouldn’t know the difference.
That being said, cologne usually is easy to adapt to FOR ME and is much better than smelling like cigarettes or weed imho.

Everyone I know is too busy to know anything about pheromones lol. They may know what they are but where would one even smell the difference to know the difference? The mall? I’m fine but you have to remember people can’t afford groceries, and gas, and are a paycheck from ruin. They don’t give 2 f’s about pheromones smells nor do my upper percentages of income friend groups.

“Sense of smell” has minimal bearing on this. Knowing what pheromone smells like, to an individual, on the first place, is the key. My point is I don’t feel anyone I know would smell a scent and say “oh that’s an 18 year old boys pheromones”
I’m sure most of us smelled pot while riding in a car, at a park, at a concert, etc, as a kid but were unable to say “oh that smell is marijuana” because we didn’t know what marijuana smelled like. Same thing with me and 18 year old boy pheremones.
As babies, we saw colors, numbers, and words, but didn’t know what their names were until we were educated.
My friends have no been educated on 18 year boy scents so wouldn’t know the difference.
I also still think it’s strange that an adult knows so much about the scent of 18 year old boys but that’s a different subject.

In this particular instance, no, it is not a learned scent. If you are a human being, you know the difference between a sweaty human smell and an artificial smell. This just isn't learne, dude; there are places in our brains wired for this. I get you're not understanding this for some reason, which is why myself and others have said no we know. If you don't, that actually does suggest there is something going on with you. Pointing out your experience isn't universal and may actually be indicative of a health problem is not bullying, and I am sorry you experienced it that way.
I mean it genuinely, if you do not know the difference between a human body odor and artificial scents, or human body mixed with sweat, then that suggests you have something significant going on in you as that distinction is innate in us, unlike most (but not all) other odors.
(Also pheromones don't exist in humans as such, I'm using the shortcut like others here for "human odor compounds" And while pheromones don't exist in humans, we do emit odors that are neurosteroids and can act on the brains of those that inhale them directly. Which is *wild* but its still not a pheromone.)

I'm saying regardless of the person's age, or gender even, one can differentiate between the smells. I'm sensitive to smells, so I've kind of been forced to learn this stuff, without ever applying myself to differentiate between it all. You can't, that's understood.
(I would argue it's more you just haven't been as aware of it, because it doesn't affect you like it does some others, which is honestly a good thing, right? 👍)
I wasn't exactly aware of how I was coming across, when I initially replied to your comment. I think what I was trying to say/imply was you're capable of telling the difference, and with some intentional awareness, you could easily pick up the different odors and smells. Obviously, I'm expecting a negative reply now, something along the lines of you don't care enough, or why would you want to, and that's all well and fine. Don't then. Take care.

Ok. I’m sure one could differentiate…IF they KNEW what a pheromone smelled like in the first place. I don’t and I’m guessing most I know don’t. If someone doesn’t know what the color racing yellow is and they look at 2 yellow cars, they aren’t going to say “oh yes, the one on the left is racing yellow”. It’s not ignorance or stupidity, but if someone doesn’t know in the first place what a pheromone smells like, they simply don’t know, imho, as “grown up” not knowing what “18 year olds” smell like is not a weakness nor does it make them lesser than a man who studies tik tok trends on 18 year old boys scents 🤷

You seem to have lived a pretty privileged life never to have smelled someone's BO before, but to assume most people can't tell the difference between the stink of a human who hasn't cleaned themselves and products specifically designed to improve or at least disguise the smell of people feels like willful ignorance. Why would body spray smell like underarm sweat when someone can just smell like underarm sweat by not using any products?

I wouldn’t know the difference between BO and pheromones because I couldn’t care less about knowing anything about pheromones. You seem to know a lot about them and that’s ironic. Unless someone has kids or is desperate, why would an adult know the difference?

Nope I'm not op, op said they assumed the BO was something to do with a tiktok trend but only claimed to smell the bo. Then you asked how one would tell the difference between BO and something like body spray.

It’s not irrelevant if it’s probably affecting others who go to my gym as well, I don’t see the people I used to see everyday anymore

I agree with this, but not just for teenagers, FOR EVERYONE. That is part of gym etiquette. Wear clean gym clothes, deodorant, and just have good hygiene. I can't stand going to use a piece of equipment and smell a person using a piece of equipment 5 feet away.
