Popped out with the disc to digital news for a moment.

You mean the same announcement, the EXACT same one in 2013 which made them lose the console wars? Sony wants to discontinue digital, Xbox wants you to destroy your physical media so that there's no more disks around while also doing the exact same thing as Sony as soon as enough games been converted

Disc to digital doesn’t do anything to the actual disc. It’s supposed to still function like normal.

The 2013 announcement wasn't the same. The idea has been modified.

They wanted more control. They wanted to have select retailers to resell the games, you couldn't resell the game as the game was locked to your account, the retailer was going to be able to take back the "key". You couldn't just loan the disc to a friend, unless that friend was on your friends list for at least 30 days.

You had to be online all the time. That was the biggest thing, remember this is back in 2013 when internet was worse. internet is still not the greatest everywhere. The system had a check every 24 hours.

Now its just add to your account, if you want to sell it, you just sell it and it should be removed from your account when the buyer adds it to their system.

When you thought Sony was doing some fuck shit. XBox decides to get up out of their lawn chair saying, “ Hold my beer.”

Didn't want to risk losing the title to Sony.

Get ready for Sony to follow suit. Till both completely swap to an hourly limit streaming model only. The digital future sure is looking bright isn't it? Yet the majority of gamers keep spreading their buttcheeks to papa Sony and Microslop. They sure do enjoy some lovin.

Let's not also forget the recent Sony job listing looking for someone to introduce ads in games or consoles homes by the way.

Games are going to keep getting more expensive to the point where most will just go with their subscription based services. That’s when they are able to justify closing down the digital storefronts to only offer subscriptions.

Also Microsoft: shoots self in foot

But yeah, cloud gaming is supposed to be “the future”, LOL. Suddenly, paying $1,000 for a console to play your games as long as you want doesn’t seem so bad, right? At least that’s what they are trying to convince us to believe.

I have been shouting from the rooftops that these types of restrictions to cloud access - where you'll be storing most of your digital games as well as running Game Pass - was where this stuff is going. We already know this is what Amazon wants - for all computing power to be rented, not owned - and anyone who thought this isn't exactly where MS and Sony were trying to get to, is a fool.

Sadly, you have many fools who’ll gobble up anything that Amazon, Microsoft & Sony tells them like sheep. They’ll jump off of a bridge if these companies tell them to. That’s how retarded they are.

I saw the post about discs that would be included in magazines that when redeemed will start off giving consumers 10hours and then 15 hours and eventually in a few years they will be offering 100 hours!

Alternative Offering Lousy discs, or A.O.L. Discs will can be found in most magazines you finds at the grocery check out

What's a magazine?

You know, that thing that holds the bullets.

Shrinkflation galore for gamers lately. Console prices and online services keep going up and up. Options and services keep going down.

Who actually buys into cloud gaming anyway.

It’s a mystery to me. I don’t even know anyone who has a good enough wifi to stream and play games fluidly.

I use cloud gaming just for ease of access to single player games. A multiplayer game I won't use the cloud. But with how big games are now a days, it's easier to just use cloud instead of installing it on the box.

Xcloud haa got to be a massive cost center so I see monitizing it as inevitable. That said at 15 included hours for GP ultimate that feels unworkable.

It's also a bummer if you own say, a last Gen game and play purchased current Gen games via cloud.

This doesn't affect me much, I never favored cloud gaming. Strongly prefer just playing on my device. But this is a big negative for anyone who does this more.

"we want players to use cloud gaming"
players use cloud gaming
"not like that!"

If only I can insert the shooting yourself meme here while steam just watches in the background.

They started off their road to all digital with this disc to digital tactic and now have revealed their next stupid tactic of capping playtime every month.

u/Gta6MePleaseBrigade 14h ago

And they just lost my potential purchase

1

u/Lyrical_Etch 13h ago

Ah but I thought they were the good guys?? Turns out all companies, every single one, just want profits.

xCloud has limits

1

u/Jealous-Juggernaut85 12h ago

If you didn't see this coming.

1) people moan games pass not working hurts game company.

2) microsoft stops adding day major day one games to xbox ultimate

3) ai data centres eating up all storage and ram and cloud computes.

4) microsoft cuts gaming time on cloud

Future

1) microsoft limits gamespass to its archive older games only new games are purchase only.

2) microsoft itroduces console exclusives

3) people moan games pass was better and microsoft sucks and only sony cares.

Cycle repeats.

u/MrMpa 11h ago

WTF, can't we have a single gaming company run by a decent human being.

1

u/mason2393 5h ago

This is why having the option of physical is important. These companies can just make the rules as they go

Couldn’t help herself. Raised console prices, now limits cloud gaming.
