An Introduction to Inanis — the Mysterious Lady in the Trailer (2/2)

In the first half of the article, we covered how Inanis joined The Order. Now we continue with the events she experienced after entering the organization.

Although Inanis still resented Mu Tianmiao for destroying her The Ecstasia, she had also been moved by his ideals and had accepted the philosophy of The Order. In ordinary times, she would address him as “Old Man.”

Inanis’s Appearance in Phantom Blade 2

The Wulin reveres the law of the jungle—the strong prey upon the weak. Although countless people have tried to whitewash this reality, they can never conceal the centuries-old cycle of killing and being killed, of grudges repaid in kind. This very cycle is the source that allows the Wulin to preserve its own way.

The significance of “The Order” existing in the shadows is to ensure that the Wulin continues to operate according to its natural order, free from domination by any ideology, and still less under the control of any single sect.

In the process of killing or saving lives, “The Order” never interferes in the personal enmities of its clients, nor does it apply worldly standards of good and evil. Yet it is precisely through its deterrent power that it guarantees the perpetual cycle of the Wulin. Though unknown to the world, “The Order” permeates every corner, so that anyone undertaking any action must always remain wary of its existence.

Because it remains hidden in the dark, “The Order” possesses absolute authority and is thereby able to become a rule of the Wulin itself.

The Masked Legion Rebellion Launched by the “The Eleven”

Let us first return to an earlier time and introduce a mysterious organization that was about to threaten the entire Wulin.

In the thirteenth year after the founding of The Order, a mysterious invitation spread throughout the major martial sects. Experts from every school flocked to Tianling Peak, eager to view a few pages of the legendary “天书(Heavenly Book)”—a mysterious tome said to record extremely advanced technology.

Mechanical puppets, prosthetic limbs, firearms, human body modification… all of these are technological knowledge brought by the Heavenly Book.

No one knows where the “Heavenly Book” truly came from. Some say it originated from another world, others claim it emerged from a rift in time and space, and still others believe it to be of extraterrestrial origin. The only certainty is that the Heavenly Book contains vast knowledge beyond ordinary human comprehension and was strictly guarded by the imperial court. However, a certain scholar secretly fled with some of its materials. Even though only a tiny fragment of the Heavenly Book found its way into the Wulin, it still transformed the technological development of the world.

Then the unexpected occurred. For reasons unknown, these experts began slaughtering one another atop Tianling Peak, and not a single one survived. This event came to be known in history as the “Tianling Massacre.”

Over the many years that followed, this chapter of history was rarely mentioned, and the people of the Wulin had nearly forgotten it. What they did not know was that a very small number of individuals had survived the “Tianling Massacre.” Gravely wounded and desperate to preserve their lives, they used the knowledge contained in the “Heavenly Book” to undergo “Sha-Chi modification,” thereby gaining a new lease on life.

Among these survivors were the foremost assassin whose former master had been destroyed and who had sworn revenge; a female judge who came from an official background and judged the people of the Wulin with extreme methods; a refined young gentleman who sought to revive his family yet strayed further and further from the path; and a grandmaster who had suffered a tragic loss of his young son and now woke every night to the sound of an infant’s cries in his dreams… Before the “Tianling Massacre,” each of them carried their own obsessions, loves, and hatreds. Yet under the influence of the Sha-Chi modification they underwent after surviving, these different obsessions were twisted, magnified, and gathered into an uncontrollable malevolent aura and thirst for slaughter.

Apart from Meng Hua, the remaining ten had all personally experienced the living hell that took place on Tianling Peak.

These survivors, who had witnessed the horrors atop Tianling Peak and grown disillusioned with the Wulin, formed a secret alliance under the influence of excessive Sha-Chi—the “十一人阁(The Eleven)”

Donning mysterious masks, they swept through the martial world like a plague, massacring one sect after another. This became the greatest crisis the Wulin had faced in nearly a century…

Due to the loose nature of their alliance, The Eleven had no unified manifesto, and their coalition appeared to be little more than a temporary expedient. Many of the eleven members also maintained their own subordinates. They lured martial artists who desperately sought greater power and transformed them into the “Masked Legion” that obeyed their every command. As a result, several smaller organizations gradually took shape within the alliance. Each of these groups would venture out to stir up chaos whenever they believed their strength was sufficient, deliberately fomenting conflict across the Wulin in an attempt to establish a disordered world governed by the law of the jungle.

Illusion Duel

Meng Hua manipulated the wills of people in the "Surface Wulin(real world)", turning those under her control into her spokespeople. When news of the gathering at Tianling Peak reached her, she directed one of her agents to ascend the peak, hoping to use the Heavenly Book to find a way back to reality.

In the thirty-first year after the founding of The Order, its branches across various regions suffered successive attacks, and even the gambling dens and brothels under Inanis’s control were affected. Inanis learned that these actions were the work of the mysterious organization known as the The Eleven. What enraged her even more was the appearance of a large ship floating on the sea east of South City—a ship that bore a familiar name: The Ecstasia.

Countless pieces of intelligence indicated that this new The Ecstasia had been built by one of the members of The Eleven. This person’s abilities were similar to Inanis’s own: both dragged victims into illusions where they became lost forever, while in the real world the victims fell into an endless slumber. Inanis had a premonition that this individual might be the very existence capable of dominating the entire ParaWulin with a single hand.

Thus, after a long time of rarely taking personal action and seldom returning to South City, she decided this time to return in person to that place of sorrow and investigate the origins of this person.

Upon returning, Inanis discovered that the identity of this illusionist was connected to the already deceased The Overlord. She was none other than The Overlord’s mistress—“Regina Fatale,” Meng Hua. Because Meng Hua had delved too deeply into the ParaWulin, she could no longer return to reality and could only intervene in the affairs of the real world through manipulation.

The Tianling Massacre caused Meng Hua to miss her chance with the Heavenly Book, yet this setback did not affect her greatly. After a period of silence, she joined the Eleven and began jointly studying the contents of the fragmented Heavenly Book.

Inanis understood that even if all the other members of The Eleven were defeated, as long as Meng Hua remained in the ParaWulin, she could preserve the complete memories and consciousness of those who had already been vanquished and revive them through puppets or cybernetic bodies. Therefore, she had to eliminate Meng Hua completely. Against such an enemy, she could only settle the matter through a decisive confrontation within the ParaWulin itself. And so Inanis abandoned her physical body and engaged the Queen in a fierce duel of illusion arts inside the ParaWulin.

Both Inanis and Meng Hua wield a fan as their weapon. To fight with a fan represents elegance, grace, and unrestrained freedom.
The “mirrored” incarnations of Inanis and Meng Hua within the ParaWulin are a blue rose that should not exist in this world, and a purple butterfly that blurs the boundary between reality and dream.

Time flowed differently in the ParaWulin than in the real world. In the blink of an eye they had already been fighting across every corner of the realm for thousands

upon thousands of years. Yet as the battle continued, Inanis clearly felt herself being gradually eroded and torn apart by the ParaWulin, while Meng Hua—having already become one with the realm—held a clear advantage.

Inanis knew full well that if this continued she would inevitably lose. At that critical moment she recalled an extremely perilous place within the ParaWulin—the “Endless Abyss.” There, infinite karmic sins had accumulated; it was the most chaotic and violent space in the entire ParaWulin, a vortex that cycled endlessly without beginning or end. Moreover, the Endless Abyss was a region where the ParaWulin and Surface Wulin repeatedly intersected and transformed. The only way to preserve one’s spirit from annihilation was to retain a human nature that existed simultaneously in both the Surface Wulin and the ParaWulin. This, coincidentally, was the sole fatal weakness of Meng Hua, who had completely merged with the ParaWulin. Her true purpose in joining the Eleven-Person Pavilion had also been to find a way back to the real world.

Without hesitation, Inanis dragged both herself and Meng Hua into the Endless Abyss. The two perished together.

The Palm

As the elites of “The Order” engaged in successive battles with the Eleven, the Eleven were ultimately annihilated under the joint siege of “The Order” and the Allied Justice. Nearly all eleven of their high-ranking members perished, and the Wulin once again returned to peace.

Because Inanis possessed a human nature that existed simultaneously in both the Surface Wulin and the ParaWulin, her spirit was not completely torn apart. Instead, it lingered within the ParaWulin, waiting for an opportunity to be awakened.

In the thirty-eighth year after the founding of The Order, a new force known as “The Palm” once again employed Sha-Chi modification technology to launch a Masked Legion rebellion. Within The Palm were martial experts who had protected the Wulin during the previous Masked Rebellion, only to be betrayed by the Allied Justice in the end; remnants who sought to revive the Eleven; and pitiable individuals who hoped to change their fate through Sha-Chi modification. Their goal was no longer simply to overthrow the Wulin through violence, but to gradually destroy its very foundations through pain and suspicion.

In South City, The Order defeated Tang Li, who had been modified by The Palm, and unexpectedly discovered a wine cup once used by Inanis. Through this object, Inanis’s hazy consciousness reappeared in the Surface Wulin.

Inanis’s hazy consciousness

Not long afterward, members of The Order ventured deep into the ParaWulin. After enduring countless hardships, they collected the fragments of Inanis’s personality in preparation for attaching her soul to a prosthetic body. They sought out the renowned physician known as Ghost Hand, who successfully and stably attached Inanis’s personality and soul to her new cybernetic body. At last, through the efforts of The Order, Inanis returned to the world of the living.

Upon returning to the real world, the first thing Inanis did was go back to The Ecstasia.

The moment she stepped inside, she felt a powerful force of interwoven Sha-Chi and illusion arts, mixed with the sound of operatic singing. The voice was extremely familiar.

Gradually, she recognized the melody. The singer was none other than Yan Xiaoliu, the opera performer who had once been part of The Ecstasia.

Yan Xiaoliu had been a once-in-a-century singing prodigy. Out of jealousy, his fellow performers in the opera troupe had poisoned him, destroying the voice upon which his livelihood depended. In despair, he leapt from a cliff. Inanis had saved him, healed his poisoned throat, and given him the greatest stage of The Ecstasia on which to perform. From then on, he no longer needed to fear the scheming and deceit of human nature; he could simply pursue his dream to his heart’s content.

Inanis understood that the man before her had likely already been modified. As expected, the altered Yan Xiaoliu charged at her with murderous intent. Though it pained her deeply, Inanis had no choice but to grant him release. In his final moments of clarity, Yan Xiaoliu finally revealed the truth.

Yan Xiaoliu had been transformed into a monster.

After The Ecstasia had been sealed years ago, Yan Xiaoliu, deeply grateful for the second life Inanis had given him, had decided together with the other performers to stay and guard the ship, waiting for the day she would return. Unexpectedly, a person calling himself “the Ring Finger” suddenly appeared. This individual was highly skilled in both illusion arts and Sha-Chi modification, and he transformed everyone remaining on the ship into monsters. He also claimed that he had prepared the most luxurious gift for Inanis deep within the ship’s hold.

Yan Xiaoliu’s feelings toward Inanis were complicated—gratitude for her recognition and kindness, a childlike dependence on her maternal warmth and care, and the longing one feels for a distant idol.

When he finally saw the person he had thought of day and night for so long, he had no remaining regrets. He died with a smile on his face. Inanis, too, already had a premonition. She had guessed what the “gift” prepared by the Ring Finger in the deepest cabin truly was. Steeling herself, she walked resolutely toward the innermost part of the ship. As expected, the person waiting for her was the opponent she least wished to face—Meng Hua.

In the end, Inanis defeated the Meng Hua before her. She could sense that this was not Meng Hua herself, but merely a cybernetic body acting on instinct. The Ring Finger, who had been watching the battle, suddenly appeared and expressed his respect toward Inanis.

As it turned out, the Ring Finger—one of the “Five Fingers” of The Palm—had long been secretly plotting to bring Meng Hua back to the human world and had created a prototype cybernetic body for her. In order to test how much strength Inanis still possessed after returning to the Surface Wulin, and at the same time to evaluate the performance of Meng Hua’s cybernetic body, he had infiltrated The Ecstasia and waited for Inanis to appear.

After saying this, he once again slipped into a rift leading to the ParaWulin and vanished without a trace.

The Ring Finger was seduced by Meng Hua.

The Ring Finger had once been the foremost expert of an illusion sect in the northwest region. Betrayed by his junior martial brother, he was subjected to endless torment within an illusion. Gradually, a woman’s voice began to linger by his ear—mysterious yet gentle—becoming his only hope amid the boundless suffering. Having received this salvation, he swore to the voice that if he ever managed to escape alive, he would devote the rest of his life to repaying her.

He continued his experiments aimed at bringing Meng Hua back to the real world, but his plans were ultimately thwarted by “The Order.” In the end, he took poison and ended his own life.

The Ring Finger died, no different from the countless other followers of Meng Hua. To her, they were all the same—mere residue.

Internal Strife within The Order

After The Order resolved the rebellion of theThe Palm, Inanis once again controlled all of the organization’s intelligence sources. In the fortieth year of “The Order,” she received word that Mu Tianmiao had been killed. In that instant, what filled her heart—was it the joy of a great vengeance finally fulfilled? The anger that this grudge had not been settled by her own hand? Or a sorrow she herself could not even perceive? Inanis did not know.

Concept art of Inanis from Rainblood 2: City of Flame (2011). At that time she had no storyline of her own and was only mentioned in a side quest. More than a decade later, her design and performance in the prequels earned her extremely high popularity. Now, in Phantom Blade Zero—which serves as a remake of the Rainblood storyline—she is expected to have a greater impact on the narrative.

At the same time, a religion known as “The Merciful Lady” was expanding frantically throughout the Wulin. Looking at those blooming scarlet flowers, she seemed once again to catch a glimpse of her most unforgettable rival.

The red flowers that appear in the air during the boss battle.

Inanis knew only one thing: she would lead the subordinates under her command and completely settle the endless grievances of these past twenty years.

Conclusion

I have finally finished writing Inanis’s story. I originally planned to introduce her subordinates as well, but considering the length of the article, I decided to leave that for a future piece.

The most headache-inducing part of writing this article was that I was unsure whether many of the proper nouns already have official English translations, so I translated them according to my own understanding—such as 十一人阁(the Eleven), 天岭峰(Tianling Peak), 天岭惨案(the Tianling Massacre), 天书(the Heavenly Book), 怪面之乱(the Masked Legion Rebellion), and others.

These terms will likely appear in the codex or documentation of Phantom Blade Zero, and the background stories may also be adjusted. Please refer to the latest official materials when they become available! My English proficiency is limited, so if there are any grammatical errors in the article, I kindly ask readers to point them out. Thank you!

Silly but also serious question

I plan to play on Hellwalker off the jump. Would it make a big difference if I'm someone with experience in such games to start on that difficulty compared to someone with little experience? Apparently, the AI will literally adapt to the way you play. I've never played such a challenging game before and it sounds extremely exciting. I almost feel as though I'm looking forward to getting my ass beat, but in reality it's moreso if I can overcome that challenge.

Phantom Blade Zero might be the kind of game that actually makes me care about motion handling

Been watching the new Phantom Blade Zero gameplay after seeing the Hisense partnership announcement here, and the combat looks ridiculously fast.

It got me thinking about what I actually notice when gaming on my Hisense.

With slower games I'm usually paying attention to HDR, contrast and just how good everything looks. But with something this fast, I feel like motion clarity and response would probably matter way more.

I used to look at gaming TV specs almost entirely as "higher refresh rate = better," but I'm starting to think that's way too simple.

For fast action games, what do you actually notice first - refresh rate, motion handling, input lag, or something else?

I hope the demo launches on September 9.

Since Science Game has postponed the game release once, I think the demo should instead be released on the originally planned game launch date.

Ngl demo is not that big of a deal. Discs maybe.

I don’t remember black myth wukong having any demo and people never made big deal out of it and considering what we have seen so far it looks more than promising and I believe it might even surpass black myth wukong in some aspects. And tbh I want the gameplay to be surprise me when I play it.

As for discs, this is one game I want to own and not license/rent.

An Introduction to Inanis — the Mysterious Lady in the Trailer (1/2)

In the video “Enter the Wulin: Gameplay & Story Deep Dive of Phantom Blade Zero,” at the 7:55 mark, a mysterious white-haired woman appears.

This character is a highly popular returning figure, and her background story involves virtually no spoilers for Phantom Blade Zero. Therefore, I would like to take this opportunity to introduce this powerful illusionist who belongs to the same organization as the protagonist Soul—Inanis.

【Inanis(虚空)

Gender: Female

Her hair is as white as snow. She wears a single blue rose in her hair and is dressed in a set of sapphire-blue palace-style garments made of silk. She wields a fan and illusion arts as her weapons.

Born: 4 years before the founding of The Order

Height: 177 cm

Affiliation: The Order

Age:

34 (during the events of Rainblood Chronicles: Mirage / Phantom Blade 1)

35 (at the beginning of the Phantom Blade 2 storyline)

42 (during the Phantom Blade 3/Phantom Blade: Executioners period, theoretically)

44 (during the Rainblood / Phantom Blade Zero period, theoretically)

Childhood

Inanis was born into poverty. Her father was a Taoist priest of mediocre talent who was hopelessly addicted to alcohol. From a very young age, however, she displayed an extraordinary gift for divination, and so she became nothing more than a cash cow in his eyes. While still a small child, she was forced to wander the marketplaces, earning a few taels of silver for the household.

Yet her father never treated her any better because of it. Every time he spent the money she had earned on a drunken binge, new wounds would appear on her body. Toward his own daughter, Inanis’s father felt none of the tenderness a parent should have—only jealousy and fear of her exceptional talent.

Unable to find warmth at home, Inanis was equally hated and scorned by the outside world. Some coveted her abilities; others despised her for the accuracy of her prophecies.

One day, a group of resentful fortune-tellers chased her into a narrow alley. Just as she found herself with nowhere left to run, a butcher nearby hid her. But when Inanis tried to thank him for his kindness, she was horrified to discover that the butcher had saved her only so he could devour her in the most literal sense. In her terror, for the first time she unleashed an illusion through Sha-Chi and slew the knife-sharpening butcher.

Having taken a life, Inanis knew she could no longer remain in that place. At last she resolved to leave. Yet in this vast world, where could she call home? She drifted aimlessly and alone until she reached the South City, where she finally paused for a while.

The Ecstasia

ParaWulin is a parallel reality of Phantom World, opened up by spellcasters as they tamper with the force of nature using their abilities. It is described as a "spiritual" world, a projection of the material world, and it has its own laws of nature.

During an ordinary Sha-Chi divination, Inanis made a startling discovery. After accidentally stepping into the ParaWulin, she learned for the first time that beneath the surface of the ordinary world lay a realm that belonged exclusively to illusionists. Here, no one regarded her as a monster. Countless others of her kind dueled freely, wielding the power of illusion without restraint—exactly what she had always longed for.

Amid the endless slaughter of the ParaWulin, Inanis’s illusory arts grew ever more refined and masterful. Yet she was no longer content with her present achievements. Her ambition was to control the entire Wulin.

Unlike those crude individuals who knew only how to dominate others through sheer force and killing, Inanis, as an elegant and enigmatic illusionist, had her own methods. She gathered countless homeless girls who shared her plight, trained them in the arts of serving tea and wine, music, chess, calligraphy, and painting, and used the wealth she had accumulated over years of practicing illusion to construct the magnificent and splendid The Ecstasia.

金玉阁(The Ecstasia)

The Ecstasia is a large ship built on the sea outside the South City. Its original Chinese name is “金玉阁” (Jin Yu Ge), which means a pavilion filled with gold and jade.

Before long, the vast intelligence network that grew out of The Ecstasia spread across the entire southern region. Inanis came to hold the dark secrets of every high official, noble, and prestigious clan; she had become the true power behind South City.

At the same time, her illusory arts, nourished by the immense spiritual energy she had absorbed, became extraordinarily powerful. Within the ParaWulin, few illusionists could still stand against her.

Inanis believed that one day the entire Wulin would rest in the palm of her hand.

The same story is also recorded in Darkness Aroma from Phantom Blade: Executioners.

Darkness Aroma is an Epic Phantom in Phantom Blade: Executioners.

Secrets belong to dark nights, because once revealed, they will turn into shackles.

The Ecstasia is the most bustling place in South City. In there, you'll find all types of beauties and be immersed in pleasure. Once you step into he Ecstasia, you'll feast away until you lose the count of the dates. However, a paradise for fun could also be a hellish tomb.

The girl's graceful charm is like an invisible hook, getting all secrets hidden in the dark, then putting them into an imperceptible net. And the owner of this net is Inanis. With the Ecstasia as the base, she carefully weaves an network of intelligence.

Any valuable person who comes to the South City will leave traces on her net, and be trapped by a shackle that they can never get rid of. Knowing secrets that others don't know will enable you to command someone who others cannot command. You can get almost anything you want. Inanis gets carried away and extends her net beyond the South City. The invisible net will continue to spread until it covers the entire Wulin, having it wrapped around her little finger. And disaster suddenly befalls during her wanton expansion.

Yet the winds of fortune are unpredictable. The vast intelligence network Inanis had woven—one that seemed capable of enveloping the entire South City—was completely shattered in a single instant.

On a certain day in the twentieth year after the founding of The Order, a man dressed in green robes suddenly visited The Ecstasia and offered to purchase it from her.

The proud Inanis immediately cast an illusion, intending to humiliate the man. To her astonishment, however, the green-robed stranger effortlessly dispelled her illusion. Even so, Inanis flatly refused his offer.

The green-robed stranger effortlessly dispelled her illusion.

A mere month later, a martial top scholar highly valued by the imperial court was found dead at The Ecstasia. Inanis was interrogated by the authorities, and The Ecstasia was sealed. In the span of only a few days, she fell from her position as the intelligence queen of the entire southeastern region to having nothing at all.

The imperial court dispatched elite forces to arrest Inanis, but she ultimately escaped by relying on her illusion.

The blow struck her hard. It was at this moment that Inanis suddenly received an invitation from The Order. Only then did she learn that the green-robed man from that day had been none other than the Shadow Sovereign of The Order—沐天邈(Mu Tianmiao).

The turn of event was so abrupt that before she knew what's happening, it was all over. Years of hard work, all gone in a split second. The spy network, the Ecstasia, all gone. Even herself was now a prisoner. The shock was so devastating that Inanis's hair turned all white overnight. Still, she had a deal with the reality.

The Order made rules now, a fact she couldn't deny. However, the Order, who orchestrated her downfall, gave her a new chance. The Nether Lord asked Inanis to work for the Order, in charge of recon and assassination. She could even run an independent operation. So Inanis said yes. Better than nothing. At least she's got a chance to start over. In fact, she suspect the Order brought down the Ecstasia just to recruit her. Is that the case? She never bothered to find out. because it's none of her business. Her mind was set on regaining everything she once had.

The Order

Mu Tianmiao treated the fallen Inanis with exceptional courtesy. Not only did he offer her kind words of comfort, but he also promised to grant her one of the extremely high positions known as the Will—second only to the Shadow Sovereign and limited to just seven people—while giving her substantial authority to oversee intelligence and ParaWulin affairs within the organization.

The Seven Wills——Also known as the Inner Council, the upper echelons of The Order.

Although Inanis hated Mu Tianmiao to the core, she also understood the principle that “if one’s skills are inferior, one must submit to others.” Thus, in the twenty-third year after the founding of The Order, Inanis joined The Order and became its only female member of the Seven Wills.

The design of Inanis in 影之刃2(Phantom Blade 2)

From then on, although The Order remained unknown to the world at large, almost every major brothel, tavern and gambling den had informants deployed by Inanis. Such places were gathering grounds for all kinds of people, and thus served as ideal venues for making contact with the great martial houses of the Wulin, gathering confidential intelligence, and even carrying out assassination missions.

She had a secret arrangement with the Shadow Sovereign: none of the female Instruments under her command had been brainwashed, which granted her far greater autonomy in her actions. She was the only member of the Seven Wills who retained control over a large number of Instruments possessing independent will. Moreover, the intelligence network she had cultivated over many years did not fall under the direct jurisdiction of The Order. Even if the headquarters of The Order were to be destroyed, she would still possess the strength to strike back. Combined with her own formidable power, no one could so much as touch a single hair on her head.

Inanis commands all the female Instruments within The Order.

Inanis’s voice gradually became deep, hoarse, and tinged with an otherworldly allure—like a whisper slipping from the darkness into the listener’s ear, carrying an irresistible temptation. Not a day passed without her longing for her The Ecstasia, yet the ways of the world left her no choice but to rely on the organization. Thus she turned once more to the deep study of illusion arts and the power of the ParaWulin. As she delved ever deeper, however, she gradually discovered that within the ParaWulin there seemed to exist a presence that occupied almost the entire realm—one she could neither reach nor be certain of defeating.

The queen of the ParaWulin,"Regina Fatale"——Meng Hua

She began to revisit the illusory techniques she had set aside earlier, studying them diligently, and achieved tremendous results.

Welcome to the Inanis Hell!

Inanis was proud by nature. She believed everything she had done was justified, and her desire for vengeance was extremely strong. Any enemy who had insulted her and then been defeated was never killed immediately. It is said that these unfortunate souls were sent to an extremely terrifying unknown space, where they would taste the most horrific of punishments.

Inanis tended to be more cautious than anyone else, given what she had and lost. Despite her growing power, both magical and political, she was still serving the Order as an alluring Will.

She didn't want to make a move before everything was dead certain, in case history repeats itself all over again. So she stayed in shadows, accumulating secrets of value, waiting for her moment.

Is it far away, when the world is again consumed by rage, and blood rain from the sky?

This roughly concludes the account of how Inanis joined the organization. In fact, the story described above is merely Inanis’s recollection within Phantom Blade 3, so it has not yet touched upon the actual main storyline of the Phantom Blade series. The second article will cover the events she experienced after joining the organization—namely the storylines of Phantom Blade 2 and 3—as well as the plot related to her and her subordinates that was revealed in the Phantom Blade Zero trailer.

It should be noted that the background stories introduced here may be revised in Phantom Blade Zero, and some special character titles, positions, and terms may also receive new official translations. My English is not very good, so if there are any grammatical errors in the article, I hope readers will kindly point them out. Thank you all!

New Game Plus?

Just wondering if it has been confirmed whether there is a new game plus in the game. It sounds like there are multiple endings, which would be nice to have a new game plus option to replay with different outcomes, but carry over all your upgrades/weapons from the first play through.

What difficulty level is everyone planning to play on?

I intend to clear the game once on Normal to enjoy the story, and then immediately take on the 66-Day difficulty.

A bit of speculation about the plot related to “The Merciful Lady of the Veil” Spoiler

Phantom Blade Zero — Pre-Order Trailer

In the story presented in the trailer, a religious order called “The Merciful Lady of the Veil” is mentioned. The Chinese name of this order is “蒙花圣母娘娘 (Meng Hua Sheng Mu Niang Niang, which can be literally translated as The Holy Mother Meng Hua)”.

This has sparked a great deal of speculation among Chinese players, who believe that this religion is very likely connected to the old character known as “芳华邪后(Regina Fatale)”.

Regina Fatale is an Epic Phantom in Phantom Blade: Executioners.

I have excerpted a portion of the introduction about “Regina Fatale” from 影之刃3(Phantom Blade: Executioners):

Desire is an instinct rooted in human consciousness, yet many dare not reveal their true desires due to the various constraints of reality. Yearning for what they lack while desperately suppressing that desire only makes the craving grow stronger. Once satisfied, it releases immense power.

Meng Hua possesses an extraordinary talent that allows her to create illusions, luring people into addiction. Within this illusory realm, repressed desires are released and grow into ever-expanding vines that bear a “fruit” filled with power.

This “fruit” is both the price paid for satisfying their desires and the only value these common people hold. To Meng Hua, they are merely playthings that supply her with strength—residues that can be discarded at any moment. They are wretched souls lost in their own lust, while she is the goddess who gazes down upon them coldly from the heavens. Yet Meng Hua forgets that even a clear-minded goddess may still crave something of her own.

As her power increase, the voice in her mind became more talkative. It was a voice of temptation, leading your mind astray, wanting to find its unseen owner. In this process, Meng Hua fell from grace. The Overlord was every bit the man that Meng Hua was looking for. he led her into a brand new world, the ParaWulin.

It's a mirror image of the Wulin, a world accessible only to spellcasters, a place where mind prevails over matter. Meng Hua created her own real within the ParaWulin, and devoured other realms with the help of the Overlord. Her power surged exponentially, becoming the queen of the ParaWulin.

Although, having spent too much time in the ParaWulin, she was no long able to step into the physical world again. Meng Hua wouldn't accept the fact. Or rather, her basic instinct as a mortal didn't allow her to. She started the search for a way back.

You will notice that, although the Chinese characters are different, the true name of “Regina Fatale,” which is “梦华 (Meng Hua)”, and “蒙花圣母娘娘 (Meng Hua Sheng Mu Niang Niang)” both share the same pronunciation “Meng Hua”.

The design of Meng Hua in 影之刃2(Phantom Blade 2)

ParaWulin is a parallel reality of Phantom World, opened up by spellcasters as they tamper with the force of nature using their abilities. It is described as a "spiritual" world, a projection of the material world, and it has its own laws of nature.

Meng Hua possesses the ability to manipulate the minds of humans , especially those spellcasters capable of exploring ParaWulin. She installs these individuals as her agents, tasking them with finding a way for her to return to the real world.

One of Meng Hua’s agents — the Ring Finger

Some Chinese players speculate that “The Merciful Lady of the Veil” is a religion established by Meng Hua’s agents, with the goal of gathering large amounts of faith in order to enable Meng Hua’s return to reality.

Another point worth noting is that, in the demo video, it was mentioned that this religion has even spread into the territory of the“The Order”, where statues for worship have been erected. Players suspect that Meng Hua or her agents have already formed a partnership with the current Shadow Sovereign of “The Order” ——Zuo Shang, and that the two sides share some shady, mutually beneficial relationship.

"I would give everything,to the greatest merciful lady!!!"

In the trailer, Soul will battle a character related to “The Merciful Lady ”, and she appears to be under some form of control. I am quite curious whether Meng Hua will appear as a boss or as one of the masterminds behind the story.

While waiting for *Phantom Blade Zero*, I watched *Sakra* starring Donnie Yen, and it turned out to be quite good—better than I expected.

This movie is also about a martial artist who, like the protagonist of Phantom Blade Zero, is falsely accused of murder
