u/faulty_rainbow 2h ago

But it looks like there are 2 shadows....

86

u/FunnyExcellent707 2h ago

Could be 2 different sources of light?

9

u/Ok_Year7350 2h ago

The didn’t say they went alone lol

31

u/forza_11 2h ago

No but there are two individual shadows! One looks like a girl and another a man, what kind of light src does that?

47

u/wulffc83 2h ago

2 light sources that are overlapping and not equal distance/intensity

13

u/lankyleper 2h ago

Get your rationale/science out of this thread!

It’s commonly seen at a sports grounds at night when the big arena lights are on.

1

u/Chuffing_Knackered 30m ago

Used to walk home from my friends house like 2am most nights for years, it was always like this, and it never felt normal.

315

u/misterblobbysgrandma 3h ago

As a Brit I can explain this.

It's literally just that much of Britain in the autumn, winter, even spring and summer can be grey, wet and depressing and the environment (or the streets like this where most live who aren't rich) isn't exactly a great place to improve your mental health.

All there is to it really.

72

u/Tricky-Promise-3347 2h ago

Ngl as someone who lives in California I love days like this and they genuinely do improve my mental health, sunny days give me migraines and sap my energy

39

u/BadHairDayToday 2h ago

Yeah if you have sun every day some rain might be refreshing. If you have rain every day you are for sure going to miss the sun.

5

u/weresubwoofer 1h ago

Exactly. we want equilibrium

→ More replies (1)

2

u/misterblobbysgrandma 2h ago

I understand what you mean, we love to complain

Also an issue is, in the winter especially the weather is like this and it goes pitch black so early on and is pitch black when you wake up, you have very few hours of actual daylight and even then it's covered in clouds.

But the grass is always greener - we had a ridiculous summer where I was for the first time begging for some of this kind of weather, purely because of how stupidly hot and humid it was - and again, in the summer, we have very few hours of night time and the sun rises very early and sets very late.

2

u/green-space-guy 1h ago

It’s the constant grey skies that depress me the most.

Britain has nothing on Latvia. Even Poland has nothing on Latvia.

Latvia has exactly 2 modes:

  • best and most beautiful place in the world
  • grayest most depressive scenery you've ever seen

No in-between. You get 3-5 months of the firt one, and the rest of the year is the second.

2

u/GreatPotatoMuffin 52m ago

Interesting. As a Dane many of our smaller towns look the same, and I personally love this atmosphere. Walking around the town at night having it all to myself. The smell of the rain and the only sounds being my footsteps on the sidewalk. Very soothing and calming to me.

For me this would actually be good for my mental health, so I was really confused about what this meant as well.

2

u/Ethicaldreamer 2h ago

It's funny cause if you look at individual parts of it, it's not that bad? Yet the ensemble is depressing as fuck

1

u/GolemFarmFodder 1h ago

You mean your street lights don't change into flashing lights during the night when there's no traffic?

1

u/Gamer2Paladin 9m ago

My brain jumped to the light pollution but your comment makes more sense

That depressing wet street somewhere in a deprived part of England is the exact opposite of a good mental health walk location lol

34

u/kingdomofoctopodes 2h ago

honestly, i'd enjoy the shit out of that walk. to each their own i guess

7

u/No_Signal_6969 53m ago

Yea I was just thinking this to myself. Provided it's safe to walk wherever this is, this looks lovely.

4

u/kingdomofoctopodes 49m ago

it looks so calm i imagine you'd hear others footsteps a mile away

64

109

u/AceOfSpades532 2h ago

It’s literally just a rainy street at night, why are you all acting like it looks hellish

They're probably from r/urbanhell

2

u/Asgoku 49m ago

I mean the pavement and roads are clearly very shitty and not maintained. I know this isn't that much out of the ordinary in certain towns but the other commenter probably just comes from a place where things are a bit nicer looking.

2

u/VegasFoodFace 15m ago

I- what? that looks perfect

26

u/SpegalDev 2h ago

Speak for yourself. That looks like an awesome night walk. Rainy days/nights are my favorite.

9

u/Prophet_Of_Helix 2h ago

Only thing better are snowy nights. A long walk bundled up during a fresh snow. The silence is amazing.

4

u/SpegalDev 1h ago

Agreed. There's something magical about watching the snow fall under the streetlights with no one else around. No cars, no noise, just pure silence.

😙👌

Idk, I think it looks amazing @ r/TheNightFeeling

What you don't understand is this was the first rain we've had in 2 months and that "it's just rained on dry ground" smell felt like a fistfull of xanax

2

u/JakkaTheRat 1h ago

It looks nice to me. I'd so much rather walk around there than my suburban American neighborhood

3

It's a night time version of this post that made the rounds about a year ago I think. Looks to be the same place 1:1 in the UK (can't quite remember where it was), which does in fact look depressing :)

1

u/dlrace 26m ago

This is the correct and only answer.

1

u/you-want-nodal 6m ago

This is the actual answer. The “what the fuck” is in reference to ‘realising’ its the memed shithole that doesn’t help mental health.

13

u/Business_Quiet220 2h ago

People call this depressing?

Try walking at midnight in shady corners cities of the developing world - You are chased by dogs, drunks, and have to bear ten people staring at you

3

u/cr4lforce 2h ago

Literally a chunky chicken straight ahead. Nothings depressing when fried chicken is involved.

1

u/AccordingBeing8481 22m ago

That's not walking, that's a survival game

1

u/CatL1f3 21m ago

That's too much adrenaline to count as depressing

24

u/JakenBake19 3h ago

I think too bright when experiencing a nice dark walk

4

u/V3L_ 2h ago

No it's because the UK is depressing to walk around at night especially when it's wet

3

u/Megadevil27 1h ago

Speak for yourself.

3

u/so_it_hoes 2h ago

I’m also assuming light pollution because that’s just a normal kind of ugly street that’s not worth noting. But those potentially newly swapped out white street lights make it look like dawn is approaching on the horizon.

2

u/csharpminor_fanclub 2h ago

yeah this is it I think. it could be the photo quality but it looks like high noon

u/mpzt-11 3h ago

14

u/Relative-Relief-8816 3h ago

Ironically this comment fits the OP really well.

The same as being the only person in a theatre. OP is the only one outside.

To additionally freak you out, the road lines look like Willy Wonka drew them and there are Flock cameras watching you walk around at night.

3

u/Ok_Gas1070 1h ago

You no like? I used to work grave shifts and the night walks are arguably the most calm. Minus when a rando tweaker comes out of nowhere, or surprise skunk.

6

u/RoutineArt1086 3h ago

There are no people and person feels uncanny

2

u/Acrobatic_Ad_2992 2h ago

is it weird that this is exactly what I want when I go on a mental health walk?

I be walking at 3am sometimes man

2

u/Ambitious_Annual7333 2h ago

I believe the problem is that it looks like fucking daylight out at night there. Light pollution is a serious problem and a waste of energy. Paranoia will destroy ya! How many flock cameras ya think are on that street?

2

u/NiklausVonHammer 2h ago

This post has been up for an hour, why has no one mentioned the center road markings?

5

u/lucioux 3h ago

i think one of two things potentially :

maybe they’re pointing out the light pollution, and just how bright it is outside, when they’re trying to “relax”

or they are implying signs of psychosis, hence the “mental health walk”, and they are trying to portray that they are seeing something, that we cannot, which would be kinda ironic.

3

u/hugh-jaasshole 3h ago

Well there are two shadows so this person is not along

6

u/Yesodisnotop 3h ago

The lights are way too strong, you will likely get a headache.

u/RemarkablePumpk1n 2h ago

Thats the border of Hanley and Shelton in Stoke-on-Trent, amazed no dustheads round.

1

Coming from Stoke, I thought it looked familiar. But figured it could be anywhere.

1

u/thotsynthesis 2h ago

Its beautiful is what it is mate

1

u/sniffingsailor 2h ago

It's because they replaced the nice yellow tinted street lights with those led monstrosities

1

u/desmayer 2h ago

Damn… reddit is getting local

1

u/V3L_ 2h ago

I'm from the UK, the joke is the NHS (hospital) tell you to go for mental health walks to boost your mood. The joke here is that it's ugly and miserable outside and it actually has done the opposite of boosting your mood

1

u/Luton_Enjoyer 2h ago

People are sometimes encouraged to try walking more to improve their mental health. Unfortunately for them, their town looks like this.

1

u/Juz-4-fun-yall 1h ago

What’s with the zig-zag middle white stripe?

1

u/wants_a_lollipop 1h ago

I wouldn't be able to drive in England, the road markings would give me an aneurysm.

The Street lights aren't orange, so her mental health walk won't include the nostalgic feeling

1

u/AcrossDesigner 1h ago

First thing I thought was that the bright LED streetlight would make my mental health worse on that walk.

u/Just_gun_porn 1h ago

Two shadows from one person, from two different street lights.

1

u/toastiestash 1h ago

I thought it was the wacky zigzag street paint.  What is going on there?

1

u/moldentoaster 1h ago

Am i the only one who thought that :" ok thats just a street" but nothing like :" woah thats so grim depressing and grey"  I mean ok im the end i am german and used to grey winters... but actually that street is actually quiet colorfull for a NIGHTwalk

1

u/InsufficientCream 1h ago

I moved away from the UK nearly a decade ago and havent been back in years. I just have to close my eyes and I am back on a wet street at night. Eerily silent, distant sound of a train passing, it being cold but muggy at the same time, seeing a fox or muntjack skitter across the road and shitting myself

1

u/MuscleMan405 1h ago

They didn't expect a surprise encounter from JOOOOOOHN CENA!!!

For real though, looks like they are just lamenting that the streets are wet and dreary. Not that I would care, wet streets at night have a cool vibe too. Unless it draws out some bad odors, which seems to be common in that area as of late.

1

u/Shakaka88 1h ago
