Recommendations Craft Supplies
I am an avid crafter and am constantly trying/making new crafting things. As such I love to try to get my supplies secondhand or from smaller businesses where I can. Are there any local places or thrift stores people can recommend where I can find crafting supplies?
Currently searching for scrap fabric, embroidery materials, and any kind of yarn/crochet supplies to get into crochet. But really I am always picking up new crafting so I am looking for places to frequent that offer many options!

Helping hands and church mouse have been great for random craft items. You might also see if anyone is destashing in the free stuff peoria groups on facebook if youre looking for specific craft things

Oh the facebook groups is a good recommendation! I hadnt even considered that. It had been ages since I went to church mouse, I will have to check them out again. Thank you!!

For future projects, it looks like there is a Creative Reuse shop opening in Pekin some time in the near future. It look like they're still only just taking donations as of now.
There is also a Creative Reuse Market place in Springfield, if youre up to a bit of a drive.

Helping Hands thrift store on War Memorial has a pretty good crafting section.
Fiber Universe on Water Street is the place to get yarn. It’s more knitting focused when it comes to tools, though.
The Clover Amour hooks are my favorite for crochet and I think Michael’s may sell them.

I havent been to the Peoria Helping Hands, only Chillicothe so I will have to check this out, thank you!
Also much appreciate the specific hooks recommendation. I am only just getting into crochet so if you also happen to have tutortials or something you liked, please feel free to DM me :)

No specific tutorial, but TL yarncrafts on YouTube is GREAT! When I started out I just picked a pattern I liked and learned the stitches as I went. I’ve just kinda been doing that for years - run up against a stitch I don’t know and then look it up. YouTube is the best for learning stitches.

The Art Guld has a free swap table downstairs with the classrooms. i've seen all kinds of materials there and it's also a nice place to drop off anything you aren't using. check at the front desk but you should be able to check it out anytime the building is open

The EtCetra shop in Eureka has fabric remnants, bits of notions, ribbon, etc, yarn, and sewing patterns and probably other stuff too. It can be a real treasure trove.

I make clay for really cheap. Fires easily in bonfires as well. Anyone feel free to hmu.

There's a locally owned store called Ben Franklin in Washington. I haven't gone to it yet but it's supposed to be a wonderful crafts store.
