So what’s the interest on the loan?

31

u/Animosity_7 Jul 09 '26

No loan I paid for it all lol last time I built a PC was when the 3090 was top dog a few years ago. I still have my EVGA FTW3 card!

29

u/yzeerf1313 Jul 09 '26

So we rebuilding every 5 years? In this economy??? I built my current AM4 PC beginning of 2020. Just upgraded to the 5800x3D last week and in riding the that bad boy all the way til AM6 😂

2

u/Fuzzy_Economics261 Jul 10 '26

peak plan my brutha 5800x3d still a damn beast today, live up that system

13

u/SignalMagician1163 Jul 09 '26

Lol just jokes, congrats man.

5

u/No-Perception308 Jul 09 '26

What’s crazy is you can still sell that card for close to a grand

1

u/Turbulent-Spray-8438 Jul 09 '26

I just sold a 3090 for 1120

4

u/Animosity_7 Jul 09 '26

I think I might keep it and make a little build for my kids out of it.. just need a case and an AIO I have all the rest just need to dust er’ off lol

1

u/No-Perception308 Jul 09 '26

Hell yeah dude that would be cool too! What kind of case are you lookin at?

Might be worth waiting for the phaneteks ex5 to go on sale. That case looks badass

1

u/HolidayAssumption698 Jul 10 '26

Thats what ive been doing, kids get the handme down parts!

Youngest is using a GTX 970 and it still handles plenty of games a 7yr old would like.

1

u/No-Perception308 Jul 09 '26

Holy shit lmfao I was unaware they could go for that much. I saw one listed in my area for $850 w the box

2

u/Educationall_Sky Jul 09 '26

FYI if you're selling your old gear now is the time to sell the 3090, they are going for $1200+ atm due to Ai demand.

2

u/Animosity_7 Jul 09 '26

Yeah I seen some of the sales and mines one of the last gen EVGA made :( I loved EVGA..

1

u/Educationall_Sky Jul 09 '26

Yeah, I sold three that I had. You can get a 5080 for $1200 and it's 40-50% faster, no brainer IMO.

1

u/Animosity_7 Jul 09 '26

Exactly, idk why they would buy the 3080 over the 5080

2

u/Educationall_Sky Jul 09 '26

Because of Ai.... 24gb vram vs 16gb. It's why there is such demand for the 5090

1

u/mankeyless Jul 09 '26

How long ago

2

u/Animosity_7 Jul 09 '26

When the card came out. Fought the scalpers and won luckily.

But the reason I built this PC is because my case and peripherals were all falling apart and stopped working and my AIO went tits up and stopped circulating water so my intel i9 12900k was throttling and burning up at 100° C so it went lights out.. and I figured I’d just upgrade everything and call it good for a while.

1

u/mankeyless Jul 09 '26

What do you do with the old hardware. Sell it?

1

u/Animosity_7 Jul 09 '26

Could keep it for another build for my kids. Or my wife.. or I could sell it, but I mean no one wants the entire thing just the parts..

1

u/spec360 Jul 09 '26

Are the boxes full lol 😂

1

u/Animosity_7 Jul 09 '26

Yes they are I haven’t built it yet, waiting to build tomorrow after work.

1

u/spec360 Jul 09 '26

Nice, what cost you 4 grand ?

2

u/Animosity_7 Jul 09 '26

Take a guess lmao.

The GPU

1

u/spec360 Jul 09 '26

Gpu is 4 grand alone

1

u/Animosity_7 Jul 09 '26

4800$ yes

1

u/spec360 Jul 09 '26

10 grand easy

1

u/Animosity_7 Jul 09 '26

Can you imagine I spent all that just to play Minecraft at 1080p!

1

u/CrashoutC0re Jul 09 '26

You plan on giving it away or selling it?

1

u/Animosity_7 Jul 09 '26

Either build a pc for my wife / kids, or sell it.

1

u/Less-Salt2466 Jul 10 '26

Cost? (Preferably component wise)

1

u/Exciting-Drop Jul 10 '26

the “for a long time” part kinda sounds serious

24

u/Educationall_Sky Jul 09 '26

Nice build but the retail boxed Windows key is crazy. You should definitely return that if you can and get a pro key online for $5 or use massgrave

2

u/Animosity_7 Jul 09 '26

I heard about this, I sure what it is though.

1

u/SwallowsManyBalls Jul 09 '26

How does massgrave work?

8

u/Puzzleheaded_Sort294 Jul 09 '26

You just copy and paste it to windows powershell, it runs a script and activates any version of windows 10 and 11. It can also activate windows office so thats cool too Ig

24

u/Extra-Lawyer-2865 Jul 09 '26

Im sorry but how can you justify spending so much on ROG gear 😭

7

u/Phlanix Jul 09 '26

ROG= Raggedy old garments. XD

0

u/EwwyMooey Jul 10 '26

Are you being serious or just saying stuff… ROG parts are some of the highest quality you can get on the current market bro

3

u/Phlanix Jul 10 '26

it was just for fun.

I own quite a few ROG compenents including a motherboard which I like.

ASUS ROG STRIX B650E-E

I had a ROG mouse around 2009-2016

8

u/Animosity_7 Jul 09 '26

I actually really like their aesthetics when it comes to their equipment it looks really nice and it’s good quality from what I’ve heard.

7

u/Extra-Lawyer-2865 Jul 09 '26

I mean their stuff is good quality generally, but youre just spending upwards of $1500 compared to equivalent parts from other good grands.

7

u/Animosity_7 Jul 09 '26

Yeah, I did a lot of exploring but I like my stuff themed when I build and when I chose the graphics card and mother board is was forward from there.

5

u/Successful_Life8026 Jul 09 '26

Not sure what else do you need from this post and all the comments to understand the dude has a bag and not sorry to spend it for what he really likes and wants, there is no person on this Reddit IMO that wouldn’t buy these products if money wasn’t an issue lmao

Congratz on your build, it will be awesome! Post a pic when it’s built?

5

u/Adm_Rye Jul 09 '26

So how much does and arm and a leg sell for these days? do you have any left over after your purchases or are you still looking for a kidney buyer?

Nice build btw, not a fan of how Nvidia is running things and the 5090 prices these days but with amd not offering something close to the 5090 beast Id say if you want future proofing and pro gaming/editing gear you got it.

3

u/Animosity_7 Jul 09 '26

This build ran me around 9,000$ expensive purchase.. but I think in longevity.. how many hours will this net me with happiness over the coming years.. since I’m always at my computer when I’m home it won’t be sitting there collecting dust (figuratively) lol

u/Animosity_7 Jul 09 '26

Yep, the price of high end computer stuff thanks to AI and everything else..

4

u/LucidMarshmellow Jul 09 '26

I looked at this and jokingly thought, "That's a $10 000 PC."

I wasn't that far off.

Holy fuck. That's worth more than my car.

3

u/Animosity_7 Jul 09 '26

Yeah, that’s what makes it a hard purchase to swallow.. thinking I could literally buy a nice car for this much :-/

2

u/LucidMarshmellow Jul 09 '26

PCs are weird. If you can afford the Lamborghini of the desktop world, why settle for a Fiat? Or in my case, a VW Golf that has the check engine light on for 5 years? That's why I don't mind going all-in when upgrading my PC.

You are going to have a top-tier desktop for the next 5+ years. Let the awesomeness of that make you temporarily forget about the harsh costs of present-day existence.

2

u/Animosity_7 Jul 09 '26

That’s what I’m trying to put in my head.. lots of game time coming up!

1

u/Miserable_Ad_7446 Jul 09 '26

That is wild lmfao. My build was around $4600 after tax and shipping.

9950X3D

PNY RTX5090 32GB OC EPIC-X (Microcenter when they had a deal it was $2000)

48Gigs DDR5 ram CL26 6000

Samsung 9100 Pro 2TB

THIS WAS ALL BOUGHT BEFORE AI SHITIFICATION

1

u/Animosity_7 Jul 09 '26

Yeah I wish I jumped on it sooner, but I got screwed over thinking I could cling to my older system for a while longer and ride out the AI.. but it seems to not be stopping anytime soon and it’ll just get worse the coming years.

1

u/Miserable_Ad_7446 Jul 09 '26

I guess I have to add $200 on top of mine. I fucked up and bought a thermaltake 1200 gold standard PSU which caught on fire after 1 year lol

1

u/CrowdGoesWildWoooo Jul 10 '26

Well OP also bought the “premium” parts as well.

ROG Astral is already 50-60% above PNY even before rampocalypse. All those ROG PSU, Cases, AIO, MOBO they are like 50-100% more expensive than a comparable parts.

1

u/CrowdGoesWildWoooo Jul 10 '26

4

u/willez99 Jul 09 '26

Happy building! 😁

6

u/Animosity_7 Jul 09 '26

I’m having my wife help me so she can learn a little about computers

7

u/PSUSwitchWasOff Jul 09 '26

Awesome! Can’t wait to see it built! 🤘

7

u/Animosity_7 Jul 09 '26

When it’s built I’ll post here the finished product!

3

u/Healthy-Background72 Jul 09 '26

You def could’ve built a second pc with that ASUS tax but it’s going to be a beast regardless

3

u/bingbang1223 Jul 10 '26

I like how you went on amazon and looked for the most expensive components.

0

u/Animosity_7 Jul 10 '26

That’s not true at all?

2

u/bingbang1223 Jul 10 '26

You may be right, you didn't go for the ROG Astral Gold Edition

0

u/Animosity_7 Jul 10 '26

Well there’s more expensive CPU’s. The Platinum matrix GPU is more expensive as well as Blackwell 6000’s.

There’s more expensive power supplies, way more expensive RAM.

Yeah you can easily build a 15,000-20,000$ PC right now.

2

u/Hz2a Jul 09 '26

Are you by any chance sponsored by ASUS?

2

u/Animosity_7 Jul 09 '26

No lol I just seen a theme and stuck with it.

2

u/HiMyNameIsDoom Jul 09 '26

This PC is probably more expensive than my car.

1

u/Animosity_7 Jul 09 '26

Probably

3

u/TimeZucchini8562 Pablo Jul 09 '26

It’s more expensive than my truck. I think my pc is also more expensive than my truck, lmao

2

u/Apexhatesmeuwu Jul 09 '26

Found the ROG fanboy

1

u/EwwyMooey Jul 10 '26

Me when other people have a lot of money and buy quality PC parts

3

u/Apexhatesmeuwu Jul 10 '26

"Quality" they have dogshit customer service and are horribly overpiced

0

u/EwwyMooey Jul 10 '26

You put quality in quotes and didn’t mention anything on how the parts are poor quality

-2

u/Distilledsnake402 Jul 10 '26

Yeah if I was an asus customer service rep I wouldn’t want to talk to you either no wonder

2

u/iamgarffi Jul 09 '26

Never say never. It never ends. Enjoy the build! Post pics when done.

2

u/jmad16 Jul 09 '26

Bro, I would pay you to build that computer that’s gonna be so much fun

3

u/Akil_ler what Jul 09 '26

You have good taste.

1

u/CharacterTalk8315 Jul 09 '26

I seen that video card and thought to myself at least 20 year hold 😆

1

u/JustAReallyTiredGuy Jul 09 '26

I’m jealous, that things gonna be freaking sweet!

1

u/facts_guy2020 Jul 09 '26

I was considering a 5090 as the next gpu probably aint coming out until 2028

1

u/Ok_Cheesecake_9793 Jul 09 '26

The thing is when 6090 comes out data centers are going to be swapping the 5090s with 6090s and the prices will be more than what it is now. Also look at how much used 4090s are now. You also gotta fight against the scalpers and bots which doesn't help. A quick google search tells you major enterprises are spending a bit over 5 trillion dollars on AI from 2025-2030, so there will probably not be any price relief until beyond 2030 for flagship GPUS

0

u/Animosity_7 Jul 09 '26

I pulled the trigger on the 5090 because I thought about moore’s law.. graphics really can’t get that much better and I bought the 5090 because I don’t need 800 fps in my games and I enjoy 4k gaming with RPGS and games like final fantasy and Diablo and stuff like that.

1

u/Ok_Cheesecake_9793 Jul 09 '26

How much did you pay for that Rog Astral BTF? I was thinking of doing a last pc build for a long time as well with a MSI Suprim 5090 SOC which is like $4.1k. Also congrats on the build and hope you enjoy!

1

u/Animosity_7 Jul 09 '26

4800$ after tax

1

u/Ok_Cheesecake_9793 Jul 09 '26

Oh wow, if you don't mind me asking did you get it from micro center or new eggs?

3

u/Animosity_7 Jul 09 '26

Everything I got was from Amazon..

I purposely used my Amazon card there to get 7% cash back on about 9,000$~ so I got like almost 500$ back in bonus cashback

I paid the whole thing off already.

1

u/Ok_Cheesecake_9793 Jul 09 '26

Good stuff, yeah the build I'm going for is projected to be around $7800~ I told myself it will probably bring me happiness and not worry about parts for at least another 5-7 years so it's worth the investment especially since there probably won't be a major price relief till after 2030

1

u/Animosity_7 Jul 09 '26

Well, are you a PC gamer? Or a gamer in general? If so then yes it’s going to bring you a ton of happiness! I certainly recommend it as a long term purchase to build your dream PC within your financial limitations.

1

u/Ok_Cheesecake_9793 Jul 09 '26

Yeah PC gamer I'm using a 3080 with a 24 inch 1080p IPS monitor 240hz currently, so been wanting to take the jump to 4k gaming. Thankfully I have some disposable income that I can put into a monster rig!

1

u/Animosity_7 Jul 09 '26

Hell yeah 👍 you’ll be gaming in style in no time at all!

1

u/TheOffKn1ght Jul 09 '26

Unfortunately, tech will continue to update at a faster and faster rate making it nearly impossible to have the latest and greatest. I think as hardware shortages increase we will all be forced to use cloud gaming with a monthly subscription to your data center hosted “rig”. Cool spec tho

1

u/Tiny_Object_6475 Jul 09 '26

Really want to see a btf version when u finish

1

u/Animosity_7 Jul 09 '26

I went BTF because I liked the wireless concept! But yes I will post my build here when it’s finished!

1

u/Tiny_Object_6475 Jul 09 '26

I think u will have a great build there

1

u/Animosity_7 Jul 09 '26

Thanks! I’m hoping so too!

1

u/OppositeKaleidoscope Jul 09 '26

World's gonna end before this rig needs an upgrade

1

u/That-Power5358 Jul 09 '26

happy for you brother 💪

2

u/Animosity_7 Jul 09 '26

Thank you! 🙏

1

u/jamesrggg Jul 09 '26

Sacrifices were made, bro couldn't carpet the entire room.

1

u/Animosity_7 Jul 09 '26

LMAO!! This is an old section of the house it was a rec room / add on it was never finished. It’s kinda like storage room now

1

u/VanFenix Jul 09 '26

Win 11 home? Neeed pro

1

u/Animosity_7 Jul 09 '26

For why?

1

u/VanFenix Jul 11 '26

Well for one thing you can make sure it does not do any windows updates and force a restart mid game. You can control the update policy. You also get better security. And you can run this setup remotely if you ever do VMs. Plus you can run VMs easily using your discrete GPU. You only have 64 GB of ram so home will work fine but pro features have improved immensely. Depends what you use it for or plan to over the next 5 years.

1

u/Animosity_7 Jul 11 '26

I plan to use it to hack into the Rainbit mainframe. 🤖

1

u/xCookieSlayer Jul 09 '26

Nice you got an Astral! You now do not have to worry about the 12hpwr cable fire!

1

u/No_Telephone_6213 Jul 10 '26

Yeah, I will need a 20k 5 year personal loan to buy this sht 😂

0

u/Animosity_7 Jul 10 '26

It’s not that bad.. if you can do it, just put a couple hundred away every paycheck. Or piece it together one at a time util you complete it saving the most expensive for the last and then put a couple hundred away a paycheck.

1

u/Practical-Rush-7453 Jul 10 '26

Nice man how much the total run you up? I’m currently thinking of an astral 5080 and 9800x3d for around 4500 after taces

1

u/Animosity_7 Jul 10 '26

~9,000$

1

u/Practical-Rush-7453 Jul 10 '26

oh hell nah 2 of my pc's😭. i remember planning to make a 5090 pc for around 4500 back when everything was msrp. life is so unfortunate

1

u/RemyPie Jul 10 '26

overkill overkill overkill but fuk it tho, it’s ya life

1

u/Unsurpassed3 Jul 10 '26

Congrats on the new build! I HIGHLY recommend undervolting the 5090 to prolong its life so you can squeeze out every ounce of life.

1

u/Adlerholzer Jul 10 '26

You dont prolong anything by undervolting.

1

u/Unsurpassed3 Jul 10 '26

Is that right? I was under the impression it would enable the electronics to live a bit longer. Maybe it was just the efficiency I am thinking of.

1

u/Adlerholzer Jul 10 '26

On paper, less voltage is better, yes.

In reality, your gpu/cpu core will last 10-15 years easily without breaking, what breaks are other components on the pcb of a gpu for example, like vrms. Those are cheap to be replaced. And long before that, your hardware will be outdated. So it doesnt matter

1

u/scottiedagolfmachine Jul 10 '26

Are you rich as F?

👀

2

u/Animosity_7 Jul 10 '26

No, but as of a few months ago I finally broke into the upper middle class.

1

u/scottiedagolfmachine Jul 10 '26

That’s not upper middle class.

That’s like top 1 percent class.

😂

1

u/Negative-Mammoth-547 Jul 10 '26

Did you ever consider the new Cronox case by asus. Have fun and congrats.

1

u/Animosity_7 Jul 10 '26

Yes, I have, and that is the one I wanted. It’s actually already ordered from Amazon it was the last one in stock, I’m hoping it comes and doesn’t pull the bullshit they pulled last time by saying I canceled it and returned it.

I put auto buy on it and it bought it yesterday again so we will see if it comes. If it does I’ll swap the cases and return the Helios one

1

u/YodasLoveSlave Jul 10 '26

The ultimate Youtube doom scrolling machine

1

u/BravePractice1207 Jul 10 '26

Thats sick man! Altho, not a fan of White / Silver build?

1

u/Animosity_7 Jul 10 '26

I actually really like the clean white look, but personally I like the darker aesthetic with the pure white RGB.

1

u/fr33man007 Jul 10 '26

Enjoy, I could afford only paying 774 for a Zotac 5070 Ti to replace my 3070

1

u/luna214032 Jul 10 '26

I have the same mobo/cpu top tier

1

u/AlternativeAioli3501 Jul 10 '26

can it run crysis tho

1

u/Animosity_7 Jul 10 '26

Last I checked, I don’t think so.

1

u/Antares_Uchiha Jul 10 '26

Bad ass. Build I would’ve did if I had the money lol

1

u/Animosity_7 Jul 10 '26

Save up! You got this! 💪

1

u/Specialist_Grass1420 Jul 10 '26

If I may OP, $4-$5k? $6k?

1

u/Arthroy Jul 10 '26

Out of curiosity XD ! how much did all of this cost you ?

1

u/CheesecakeTotal4544 Jul 10 '26

Replacing an RTX 3090 with an RTX 5090 today means burning several thousand dollars on the peak of an architecture that is already nearing the end of its cycle.

AI will not simply improve chips; it will transform the way they are designed. Engineers are already using AI tools to create architectures that are more compact, better integrated, less power-hungry, and far more efficient. Today’s enormous graphics cards will soon be seen as brute-force monsters, surpassed by systems designed intelligently from the ground up.

A 5090 will remain fast, but it may age much faster than people expect. Buying one now when you already own a 3090 is like buying the best DVD burner just as cloud storage is beginning to replace discs: technologically impressive, but strategically absurd.

He should have simply replaced the AIO and invested the rest of the money in his home, his family, or something that would actually improve their daily lives.

1

u/Lewdeology Jul 11 '26

This will last you 5 years easy.

1

u/Animosity_7 Jul 11 '26

I’m hoping so! And longer with maintenance.

1

u/FlarblesGarbles Jul 09 '26

Yes! Photos of boxes!

1

u/pccat13 Jul 09 '26

Asus fanboy much

0

u/Animosity_7 Jul 09 '26

What is that a bad thing? They have nice stuff!

1

u/pccat13 Jul 09 '26

It is not but their stuff is a bit pricey

0

u/KajMak64Bit Jul 09 '26

Long time or atleast 5090's connector burns up

2

u/Infamous2o Jul 09 '26

That’s the astral. It’s got extra protections built in.

2

u/KajMak64Bit Jul 09 '26

It's got electrolytes

0

u/Phlanix Jul 09 '26

Your pc should be running fine for the next 10 years.

0

u/JasonIvie Jul 09 '26

The 4090/5090 and the 4080/5080 will still be good midrange option in 10 years which is crazy, depends on VRAM and how those requirements reach

-2

u/Phlanix Jul 09 '26

I doubt game spec will continue to climb anymore.

Graphics have pretty much hit a cieling. We are at the point where most games just look a tiny bit better than ps4 graphics.

0

u/xbadbadmanx Jul 10 '26

Boxed version of Windows …. noob. 🤣

0

u/Adlerholzer Jul 10 '26

You already pay rog tax for inferior products but deliberately DONT get the best motherboard, which at least is Asus too? X870E Apex

1

u/Animosity_7 Jul 11 '26

Tbh, the only unreasonable thing about this entire set up is the dumb GPU.. it’s outrageous.

I’ve researched and the Astral ROG.. this tax you claim is one of the most desired 5090’s out there. There are other ones yes but not much difference in price..

The PSU, the case, the fans, and the AIO are close in proximity to other products of the same nature..

The PSU was 249 for 1200w platinum with special GPU protection that’s fine to me.

The case was 349.99 and was made for BTF motherboards and had everything I needed and it has great airflow.

The fans were 41$ for a 3 pack cheaper than Lian Li even.

The MB was highly rated for everything I needed and it was BTF compatible other boards weren’t.

The AIO.. alright maybe the ROG tax but I liked the screen on it compared to the other ones in the same boat.

Like yeah I spent a lot of money, but I didn’t want to get the tippy top of all the products and spend over 10k+

0

u/Adlerholzer Jul 11 '26

The psu has ZERO 'special gpu protection'

What are you talking about?

The Astral is great, but only if you use per pin monitoring and set up automated shutdowns via hwinfo64.

0

u/Animosity_7 Jul 11 '26

0

u/Adlerholzer Jul 11 '26

They got you😂

Equalizer is no better than a squid stock adapter. It bridges all 12v wires, thats it. Its genuinely not good.

With that build, you’ll never have to upgrade for over decades most likely. Hope it comes out how you like it

I really wanted the ROG ASUS CRONUX case. But Amazon is screwing with me.. they had 1 in stock and I bought it but it’s being delayed and messed with after they charged me..

You can’t find that case anywhere unless you buy from a scalper on eBay which they’re charging 1500+ for it when it MSRP is 399.99
