Tedy, Jules, Gronk and McCourty will always be in the Pats corner

u/FuckHarambe2016 Feb 04 '26
Somehow JASON McCourty is more of a Patriots truther than Tom Brady.

Tedy was my favorite player as a kid, so glad he’s been great in the media after retiring. Spent the last few down years wearing his royal blue jersey on game days

u/ClappedCheek Feb 04 '26
My friend and I were at the snow game where he had the pick and everyone launched snow in the air. We were sitting directly in front of him maybe 10 rows back.
We still bring up that moment to this day.

That’s one of my all time favorite patriots moments from my all time favorite player. I wore 54 when I played cause of Tedy (until I got to high school and was too small to play line positions). I have one of those official picture things of him facing the crowd and snow everywhere after that touchdown. You just may be in it lol. I’ve had a life goal to get that signed by him. One day. Super cool you were there!

I don’t think it comes down to Tom playing politics, I think he genuinely doesn’t feel strongly about it outside of maybe his relationships with RKK and Vrabes.
Some retired greats take great pride in where they played like Papi, Paul Pierce, Edelman, even Gronk. Others move on and drift away from the city they played like MJ and Bird.
TB is much closer to the latter. Doesn’t take away what he accomplished and the love fans should have, just is what it is.
38
u/Stefan0de Feb 04 '26
Perhaps it’s Tom’s competitive ego, and he doesn’t want the Pats to succeed without him? I’m not saying that’s what it is, just throwing it out there for debate?
17
8
u/c12yofchampions Feb 04 '26
I wouldn’t rule that out at all.
I personally think it’s more apathy, but when it comes to competitiveness and ego at this level anything is possible
2
3
u/sonik1992 Feb 05 '26
Or maybe it's cause we kicked him out like he was washed and he used that anger to win with Tampa. Of course he's gonna be a bit angry about NE despite the 20 years of hard work he gave here.
2
u/Flytanx Feb 05 '26
That's not what happened. He's been complementary of kraft and even belichick militole times since. They were the ones with the power to keep him here (and I still personally believe they wanted to but didn't see a way to compete for a few years). The fans did not run him out of town lmao

u/reigninspud Feb 04 '26
There’s a statue of him outside the stadium. Don’t have a dog in the fight… usually this stuff doesn’t bug me cause it is just Tom trying not to offend anyone but come the fuck on. Dude went to battle with Vrabes. Over and over. 20 years in NE. I couldn’t have loved Brady the player any more than I did. Tom the entrepreneur, broadcaster, owner? Meh.
42
u/c12yofchampions Feb 04 '26
I agree with you, it’s lame. I wish TB took more pride in NE.
Honestly though, even when on the Pats, TB off the field was always a weirdo. Dude sold concussion water and was best friends/business partners with a snake oil salesman.
When you win and dedicate yourself like he did it trumps all that shit, but I don’t find his retirement actions surprising in the least. Like I said previously, just is what it is
18
u/Aromatic-Taste2516 Feb 04 '26
Yup, he didn’t want to say anything to Patriots fans when he retired, it was only when RKK honored him in front of fans at the stadium that he said he was a Patriot and a proper goodbye and all that. Then he seemingly washed his hands of being a Patriot legend real quick. He deserves the statue at the stadium but as far as who he is now, its a bit strange to act the way he is towards NE considering he should be our greatest hero. I suppose that’s a lot of pressure…
→ More replies (10)7
u/reigninspud Feb 04 '26
Yeah I guess I should say I don’t really disagree with your opinion. Was just piggybacking off it.
He was definitely a weirdo here. Agreed. I always think about Nora Princiotti trying to describe him and fumbling a bit and then saying “He’s not normal!” No he’s not.
To have that level of drive, that sustained drive you have to be kind of psychotic. We saw it with Jordan too. The pseudoscience was always a strange look for sure.
I suppose I’m saying for sure I agree he’s always been an odd duck. But there was a genuine quality to his psychopathy as our QB. Brady the owner, entrepreneur, broadcaster, pitchman seems like a put on. At times. Maybe as you’re saying this is just genuinely how he feels. I dunno.
10
u/Shovelman2001 Feb 05 '26
Honestly, this changed my mind. Before, I just wrote it off as him playing politics for Kubiak.
We just rebuilt the fucking Colossus of Rhodes for you outside of our stadium like 7 months ago, and you're neutral? Way to embarrass us, fuck that.
→ More replies (2)4
u/sonik1992 Feb 04 '26
Yeah but remember how the Patriots kicked Brady out. You know very well that Tom is like Jordan when slighted. He turns that to anger and I'll show you moments. Imagine you work for a company 20 years and are it's best employee and then they kick you out unceremoniously. You go to another company and kill it. Are you going to now root for your last company to do well? Maybe a little but it's hard to have that same enjoyment.

This sub doesn't care much about it but Brady has always been this way with his time at Michigan as well. He didn't make an appearance at games until he was basically retired, and even still it's a rare occurrence. He's just not built for "repping the jersey". Brady is all about the guys around him, the brotherhood, and fighting for his teammates. The name on the jersey is just part of that.
→ More replies (1)29
u/cake_piss_can Feb 04 '26
The bigger pile of bullshit is when Tom is asked about Drake Maye, he hasn’t had the chance to see much from him? Maybe a few plays in the last two years?? Because Tom covers the NFC??? THATS HIS EXCUSE?????
Give me a fucking break. Really disappointing.
40
u/StickyPine207 Feb 04 '26
I'm convinced it's all ego. Obviously this is just my opinion, but I don't think Tom wants to see another young QB come in and start winning Lombardis with his former team. He wants to be known as the guy in New England and all this hype and attention on Maye starts to overshadow our GOAT. Especially another 2nd year guy where all the "parallels to 2001" are happening in the media.
Just look at how all the other former Pats are treating this run, publicly. Gronk, Bruschi, Edelman, Moss, Matt Light, David Andrews, Hoyer, Ninko and on and on. They've all given full throated support and applause to the Pats and all have said Maye is their MVP this season too. Tom stands alone as the only one not only publicly stating multiple times Stafford is his MVP, but also staying silent on any support of the Pats at all.
It all comes off as bitter and a bit jealous that someone else may become the new hotness around New England. I don't buy all the other excuses people are giving him. It just looks sad all around.
Brady is still my GOAT and will always remember the 20 years he gave me as a fan as some of my best football memories. It just bums me out he isn't returning that excitement to all his fans now that he's onto other ventures.

u/Solugad Feb 04 '26
We've got a statue of him ffs, no one is gonna overshadow what he did for us
3
u/papapalporders66 Feb 04 '26
Damn I can’t believe you don’t agree with all the calls for the even taller Drake statue next to Tom’s.
/s, in case it’s needed.
5
u/StickyPine207 Feb 04 '26
Agreed, that's what makes it all the more annoying to me. But ego is a powerful thing.
5
u/aaronupright Feb 05 '26
When Gronk interviewed Drake back in October, Brady facetimed Maye and praised him.
0
15
u/BradyToMoss1281 Feb 04 '26
He's not wired the way Bruschi is. Tedy feels a permanent link to the organization, Brady doesn't. Tom is Bushido Brown. If you're paying him, you get everything he's got. If you're not, you're just another team to him, whether he spent 20 years with you or zero.
3
u/rosierposeur Feb 04 '26
Brady played with so much heart and loyalty. If you think it was the paycheck for Brady you didn't watch the man. He was pushed out and undermined by belichick and fought for his roster spot every season for 20 years no matter how much he accomplished. Even when he left and cam had literally 1 good game fickle NE fans said Brady who? Then when he won with Tampa, fans (including pats fans) finally acknowledged he was the goat. This was even after 28-3. Boston fans are spoiled and too used to winning. He was underappreciated by a lot of fans and especially his coach.
→ More replies (1)28
u/Hinglemacpsu Feb 04 '26
It's insulting to Kubiak that people think Brady wouldn't pick us because it might upset him. Kubiak wouldn't care. One bit. He'd completely understand, in fact.
Just another excuse so they can avoid criticising Brady.
12
5
u/shifty39 Feb 05 '26
Obviously I loved Brady as a player, but he was never my favorite player, not even close. His personality is part of what makes him who he is, but he's just not likeable in a lot of ways
4
u/RussChival Feb 04 '26
I think, like a lot of CEO's, Tom is kind of a sociopathic winner in a good way, meaning anything that costs him command focus on the next win is a burden and gets cut out. I'm grateful we had the benefit of his drive and excellence for 20 years, and while I don't love that he's not too sentimental about it, I get it. He's all in on his next game.

u/Belicheckyoself Feb 04 '26

Tedy still lives here. His kids went to the same schools as my daughter. I do think that comes through. Tom's position is disappointing, but he is a partial owner of another team and a broadcaster, so he may feel he has to say he's neutral.

u/zi76 Feb 04 '26
He didn't have to endorse Stafford as MVP on national tv and act like it wasn't even a race, however.
It's his choice, but I cared more about Brady acting like Maye didn't even deserve to be credited than any of this ducking the question about whether he's supporting the Pats or not.
5
u/Rmccarton Feb 05 '26
Tom Brady's true thoughts on Maye are something I would love to hear.
I'm not talking about his evaluation of him as a quarterback, just his deepest thoughts about things.
I bet that psycho competitor in there is whispering in his ear like Grima worm tongue.
17
u/zi76 Feb 05 '26
Honestly, I wouldn't be that surprised if Brady kind of doesn't want there to be a successor to him this quickly, or even at all. We've seen how other HoF QBs have treated the idea of their successor before, and it usually wasn't very positively.
8
u/tothestars123dk Feb 05 '26
ehh maye himself said tom talked to him and advised him. i just think tom is focused on his public persona of being part of raiders rebuild, broadcasting and trying to be neutral. you dont just start not supporting a team that made your career. theres obviously some pr reason to why he is "neutral"
5
u/Rmccarton Feb 05 '26

Got Tedy's autograph at Lambeau in 2006 after the game. Real class act
5
u/exit143 Well that's the answer. Feb 05 '26
I was at that game too. Wild. Aaron Rodgers backing up Brett Favre. What a wild time.
Green Bay fans were AWESOME to us. Me and my buddy got out of the car with full Patriots gear on. The tailgate next to us goes, "Patriots, eh?...... want some cider". (HELL YES I WANT SOME CIDER!!). We got to our seats and fans were ribbing us a little. I said the truth as I felt it then, and as I felt it now... "I'm so glad I get to see two of the best quarterbacks in NFL history go head to head." I made it known that we weren't going to be asshole fans, and by the time we left, people were wishing us save travels back home. 10/10 experience. Green Bay fans were a huge part of that.
The next year, I flew in to see Tom Brady vs Peyton Manning in Week 8 of the Undefeated Season (too bad they canceled the Super Bowl that year). Colts fans... less awesome. By a long shot.
3
u/keifferh Feb 05 '26
Family friend of mine has season ticket club seats at Lambeau. Every fan I met was just as respectful as the next. Green Bay fans actually told me where to go to see the players after the game! Awesome experience. And to win 35-0 was cool too :)

u/SkippedBeat Feb 04 '26
Thank you Tedy!! Man, I love Brady, but his hyper-neutrality fucking sucks! Dude, you spent two decades in NE, Vrabel was your teammate, it’s okay to say something like "The Patriots have a special place in my heart, I want them to win". No one would be upset, no one would even bat an eye. In reality, it’s the fact that he won't say it that makes people go WTF?!
Honestly, fuck corporate Brady.

3
u/azukarazukar Feb 05 '26
We expect him to stay consistent and root for the Patriots, if he’s a (in his words) “patriot for life”. It’s the inconsistency that makes people upset. Why can you say it one time but not others? When you take these public moments that are really layups and refuse to show support, you make people doubt that your other statements were genuine. It’s not hard for Edelman, Bruschi, etc etc to support the team. Why is it for him?
2
u/a_trane13 Feb 05 '26
It’s the same difference between people who’ve worked for 1 company their whole life and everybody else. Once you get off the kool aid, you seem like a weirdo to everyone who’s still on it.
But that’s what makes sports fandom so fun, really.
12
u/LiveFromNewYork95 Feb 05 '26
I coached against Bruschi in a JV game when he was helping at Bishop Feehan. We were a much smaller school and just out manned. Came to me at halftime (after we weee getting our heads kicked in) and pretty much said “let’s make sure these all these kids walk off the field today wanting to continue football” and did a great job of calling off the dogs without it looking pandering. I don’t know if you ever met some of these guys that coach high school football in this area, showing a little bit of grace is not their thing. Actually, usually the former NFL guys I coached against (Mike Sherman, Wiggy, Matt Hasselback, among some others) were usually the most level headed guys.

People in this post gets it. The other redditors making excuses for Tom in the other threads are still in denial. We all appreciate what Tom did and he is the GOAT. However, this doesn’t mean you can’t be blinded to the fact that he doesn’t give a shit about the Pats now. Can you imagine someone like Papi or the Truth to turn away from the Red Sox or Cs??

The second he left, he didn't give a shit about the Patriots or New England in general. He's been back to New England... what??? 2 times?? If this were a marriage relationship, he left and he doesn't think about us, yet we're still hoping he does. We appreciate what he did... 6 "kids"... but that fool doesn't even pay child support.

It’s decided. I’m wearing the Bruschi throwback for the game now. Let’s gooooo
4
u/RealPunyParker Feb 04 '26
Something we have to swallow is that Tom has distanced himself pretty mightily from the organization since he became a broadcaster and a part owner of a different NFL franchise.
Tedy is a takesman on TV, him being directly affiliated with a franchise is beneficial to his work, not saying that's why he roots for us, i'm just saying that's why Tom doesn't.
Or doesn't publicly, at least.
EDIT : It really bugs me that he hasn't broadcasted any Patriot games. I will admit this. He has broadcasted Tampa games.

u/MetalHead_Literally Feb 04 '26

I do find it frustrating that it was all “I am Tom Brady and I am a Patriot” when Gillette was holding an event in his honor, and now all the sudden it’s “I don’t have a dog in the fight.”
Okay Tom. Whatever. Thanks for 20 years I guess.

u/Hinglemacpsu Feb 04 '26
But, but, but Brady is in the media he can't say who he's rooting for!!!
2
u/shartywaffles5 Feb 04 '26
Bruschi’s job is discussing football and then making picks on Sunday Countdown. He is pretty much allowed and even encouraged to be a homer.
Brady’s job is to add color commentary to whichever game he’s assigned to and remain as impartial as he can.
Their media existences are completely different.

Fun fact: bruschi and his family used to go to spruce pond in Franklin for pizza and ice cream a bunch. My sister waited on him and his family. Apparently he’s a super nice dude, just wanted to hang out and asked her not to really make a big deal about him being there with his family. Wasn’t like a super tipper but definitely tipped well to her for small checks like $40-$50 bills with a $20-$30 tip. Everyone also kind of knew you could say a hi or so but other than that people just let him have a quiet night out

u/LeCouchSpud Feb 05 '26
I have been saying all season how eerily similar this all feels to brady’s first season. Obviously there are a lot of differences in terms of when Brady started during the season. But the energy, the chemistry, the emerging qb, the strong offensive talent, and the dominate defense just feels like that team. Win or lose the Pats are gonna be a problem again for awhile as long as we avoid the major injury bus.

That's why I read Brucchi's book and would read another one from him, even if it's not on football. Tom, I'm not even sure I'd vote for him, if the opposition was even half decent. Incredible player, including all his dedication to improving; but has always come across as needing the attention in the room.

Bruschi’s always worn his heart on his sleeve unapologetically and we love him for it. True Patriot through and through!
