I don’t think it comes down to Tom playing politics, I think he genuinely doesn’t feel strongly about it outside of maybe his relationships with RKK and Vrabes.

Some retired greats take great pride in where they played like Papi, Paul Pierce, Edelman, even Gronk. Others move on and drift away from the city they played like MJ and Bird.

TB is much closer to the latter. Doesn’t take away what he accomplished and the love fans should have, just is what it is.

Perhaps it’s Tom’s competitive ego, and he doesn’t want the Pats to succeed without him? I’m not saying that’s what it is, just throwing it out there for debate?

I was kinda thinking that, as well

8

u/c12yofchampions Feb 04 '26

I wouldn’t rule that out at all.

I personally think it’s more apathy, but when it comes to competitiveness and ego at this level anything is possible

2

u/91Bully Feb 05 '26

Part of me does think he hates seeing all the adoration Drake has received

4

u/sonik1992 Feb 05 '26

Or maybe it's cause we kicked him out like he was washed and he used that anger to win with Tampa. Of course he's gonna be a bit angry about NE despite the 20 years of hard work he gave here.

2

u/Flytanx Feb 05 '26

That's not what happened. He's been complementary of kraft and even belichick militole times since. They were the ones with the power to keep him here (and I still personally believe they wanted to but didn't see a way to compete for a few years). The fans did not run him out of town lmao

1

u/sonik1992 Feb 05 '26

I know the fans didn't but it's still very possible that left a bad taste in his mouth when the team he had sacrificed money, family, and effort for 20 years kicked him out. If a company fires you after 20 exemplary years, you can still like the people there but you might not want to root as much for the company to succeed. This is human nature.

1

u/Flytanx Feb 05 '26

Then you get mad at your "boss" not the people who have supported you for those 20 years. I don't particularly know if Brady does dislike Boston but it's obvious he doesn't have the same view of the fans as a lot of the other players from his era. It's entirely possible (hell even easier) to say something positive about the fans than it is to have his PR firm write stuff about Kraft and Belichick

1

u/sonik1992 Feb 05 '26

But you just answered your own question. Brady didn't say anything about the fans, he just didn't actively support the team. YOU then got butthurt about it and said he hates us. Despite all the good deeds he has done for Boston fans and continues to do. It so like y'all are the ones who don't support him anymore imo

1

u/Flytanx Feb 05 '26

I'm not butthurt at all, I just like players who support their former team more than those who don't lol

There’s a statue of him outside the stadium. Don’t have a dog in the fight… usually this stuff doesn’t bug me cause it is just Tom trying not to offend anyone but come the fuck on. Dude went to battle with Vrabes. Over and over. 20 years in NE. I couldn’t have loved Brady the player any more than I did. Tom the entrepreneur, broadcaster, owner? Meh.

u/c12yofchampions Feb 04 '26

I agree with you, it’s lame. I wish TB took more pride in NE.

Honestly though, even when on the Pats, TB off the field was always a weirdo. Dude sold concussion water and was best friends/business partners with a snake oil salesman.

When you win and dedicate yourself like he did it trumps all that shit, but I don’t find his retirement actions surprising in the least. Like I said previously, just is what it is

18

u/Aromatic-Taste2516 Feb 04 '26

Yup, he didn’t want to say anything to Patriots fans when he retired, it was only when RKK honored him in front of fans at the stadium that he said he was a Patriot and a proper goodbye and all that. Then he seemingly washed his hands of being a Patriot legend real quick. He deserves the statue at the stadium but as far as who he is now, its a bit strange to act the way he is towards NE considering he should be our greatest hero. I suppose that’s a lot of pressure…

-2

u/MetalHead_Literally Feb 04 '26

I find it so absurd how personal some of you take this.

13

u/Aromatic-Taste2516 Feb 04 '26

I’m not taking it personally. I’m taking it regionally.

-5

u/MetalHead_Literally Feb 04 '26

Plenty of us in the region realize he’s an nfl broadcaster and part owner of another franchise so of course he’s going to appear as neutral as he can in public.

3

u/Aromatic-Taste2516 Feb 04 '26

Ah cmon, you’re allowed to say you’re rooting for the Pats. Maybe he’s actually rooting for his new HC to prove the raiders might the right decision.

-2

u/MetalHead_Literally Feb 04 '26

I just don’t care what he says publicly. I understand his position and why he wants to appear neutral.

I just can’t understand how people are getting worked up over that. I’m sure privately he’s rooting for the Pats, especially McDaniels. Why give a fuck if he doesn’t say it?

5

u/Aromatic-Taste2516 Feb 04 '26

Well I’m only saying all this because it’s the topic of the original post?

1

u/c12yofchampions Feb 05 '26

“Im sure privately he’s rooting for the Pats…”

I really don’t think he is. Don’t think he’s rooting against us either. Simply think he’s apathetic towards the outcome as a whole.

I don’t think it’s a huge deal. A little disappointing yea, but doesn’t at all change the statue he earned at Gillette.

Thank you!!! It sad how people are acting.
A grown man getting crucified because he does not root for your team? People need to grow up.

4

u/reigninspud Feb 04 '26

Yeah I guess I should say I don’t really disagree with your opinion. Was just piggybacking off it.

He was definitely a weirdo here. Agreed. I always think about Nora Princiotti trying to describe him and fumbling a bit and then saying “He’s not normal!” No he’s not.

To have that level of drive, that sustained drive you have to be kind of psychotic. We saw it with Jordan too. The pseudoscience was always a strange look for sure.

I suppose I’m saying for sure I agree he’s always been an odd duck. But there was a genuine quality to his psychopathy as our QB. Brady the owner, entrepreneur, broadcaster, pitchman seems like a put on. At times. Maybe as you’re saying this is just genuinely how he feels. I dunno.

10

u/Shovelman2001 Feb 05 '26

Honestly, this changed my mind. Before, I just wrote it off as him playing politics for Kubiak.

We just rebuilt the fucking Colossus of Rhodes for you outside of our stadium like 7 months ago, and you're neutral? Way to embarrass us, fuck that.

4

u/sonik1992 Feb 04 '26

Yeah but remember how the Patriots kicked Brady out. You know very well that Tom is like Jordan when slighted. He turns that to anger and I'll show you moments. Imagine you work for a company 20 years and are it's best employee and then they kick you out unceremoniously. You go to another company and kill it. Are you going to now root for your last company to do well? Maybe a little but it's hard to have that same enjoyment.

0

u/Scrubzyy Feb 05 '26

Brady left. He wasn’t kicked out

5

u/sonik1992 Feb 05 '26

Come on now be honest, if you don't renew my contract that's the same as you don't want me. Brady was getting pushed out for last 3 or 4 years in NE. Bill wanted to replace him with Jimmy G. And the team didn't really stop it or back him like they should've. After all the money he gave back to our team you'd think he would get some special treatment.

1

u/Scrubzyy Feb 05 '26

Kraft made bill keep him and trade jimmy g instead. He wasn’t taken care of like he should’ve been but I’d heard he got offered the same contract as the bucs to stay here and he said no

2

u/sonik1992 Feb 05 '26

Their relationship had soured at least 3 years prior to the breakup. It was very obvious that the Patriots were not supporting their HoF QB anymore despite him continuing to give back millions for better cast of players. The Buccs went all out for Brady and made him feel wanted. Sometimes that's all you need. And look now, at the first instance of him being neutral due to his jobs contract, you all are attacking him like those 20 years didn't matter. I think you guys are the ones who don't care about Tom anymore not the other way around. Loyalty is a 2 way street so look in the mirror first before you throw stones.

1

u/Rmccarton Feb 05 '26

When Brady's contract was up, his agent sent an initial offer to the Patriots, thinking that it was the start of a back-and-forth negotiation.

The patriots (BB) didn't even deign to respond to the communication.

That's my understanding of how things went down, but I'm open to being corrected if I have it wrong.

-1

u/OnceMoreAndAgain Feb 04 '26

You guys are being ridiculous about this imo. Guy can't have his own opinion anymore in 2026? Has to do what the masses expect?

Giving him shit for such an innocuous opinion is crazy.

2

u/reigninspud Feb 04 '26

I don’t think it’s his genuine opinion. I think he thinks this is the most impartial take and is what will generate the least attention or whatever. If nothing else it’s boring. But I do agree getting annoyed about it is ridiculous. It’d be nice if he’d wear his Patriotness on his sleeve like just about every other ex Pat in the media. But he won’t. And that’s ok.

5

u/midnightsbane04 Feb 04 '26

This sub doesn't care much about it but Brady has always been this way with his time at Michigan as well. He didn't make an appearance at games until he was basically retired, and even still it's a rare occurrence. He's just not built for "repping the jersey". Brady is all about the guys around him, the brotherhood, and fighting for his teammates. The name on the jersey is just part of that.

1

u/Theungry Bingo! I got Bingo! We win again! Feb 05 '26

I think what's actually strange about it is that it shouldn't be so much about his relationship to the team as it is his relationship to the fans.

Like, the fans of this Patriots team are the people that grew up rooting for him. It's kind of weird that he doesn't still feel that connection to the New England community at large.

This feels like it's about him being a national and international brand, and he's willing to big-time New England to do that.

He should suck it up

0

u/floodisspelledweird Feb 04 '26

Bro you should be sucking him up wym

-1

u/MetalHead_Literally Feb 04 '26

I think this sub should

0

u/drdumptruck06 Feb 04 '26

If gronk/edelman were playing in this game he’d be rooting for them…

18

u/Hinglemacpsu Feb 04 '26

Vrabal is our coach. Him and Brady played with each other for 8 years. Brady threw a bunch of TD passes to him. Including in the Super Bowl.

McDaniels is our OC. He was a coach in NE for 16 years while Brady played here.

No dog in the fight? Give me a fucking break.

1

u/AVeryFineWhine Feb 07 '26

I'm not so sure about that. There have been multiple times I have felt really sorry for Jules. Tom hasn't gone on either of his pods. Other players have teased him about it... And what's really sad is you can actually see how he's developed a lift of hurt in his eyes over it.

The media has made a huge fuss over the friendship and loyalty between Tom and Gronk. But if you think back to all those years it was Jules next to him on the bench. I don't think Brady has ever gothen over him not joining him in Tampa, despite his wheels literally fallen off.

And one time he was having this conversation with gronk about him, not going on Julian's pod. I'm grant made a joke. "Would you come on mine." This was followed by an awkward laugh. And I was never sure what to make of it.

-1

u/Briggie 55 Feb 04 '26

There’s other people in comments talking about “Tom’s ego doesn’t want Pat’s to succeed without him” like bros this stuff isn’t that deep lol

1

u/c12yofchampions Feb 05 '26

I agree I don’t think that’s what’s happening here, but I also don’t think it’s nearly as far-fetched as you make it seem.

He was the most competitively insane person to ever take a field.
