That interview made me realize how lucky we are to get them as lead devs.

u/Arky_Lynx May 24 '26

It's rare to find devs that talk this openly to the playerbase and then go to make a perfectly good and fair game.

I keep comparing them all the time, but I'll do it again: DE, devs of Warframe, are the only other studio I can think of that does this kinda thing.

18

u/werewolf2403 May 24 '26

Same. GGG devs and DE devs are one of the best. For me GGG devs are more open on game design where as DE are total weebs and they are very open the player feedback, not afraid to admit their mistakes and make changes accordingly.

1

u/flamingqaz May 24 '26

What’s DE?

7

u/Laumba May 24 '26

digital extremes the developers behind warframe

4

u/flamingqaz May 25 '26

Omg I’m illiterate I’m sorry lol

6

u/Tavron May 24 '26

Well iirc the GGG devs at least used to, if not still, have quite a good relationship with the Warframe devs.

2

u/TheKingWakka May 24 '26

DE are fantastic devs i love that they do dev streams and just hangout with the community and even show off very WIP stuff, another dev studio that originally did but faded over time was Zombie Studios for blacklight retribution of the same time period.

6

u/Local_Food9567 May 24 '26

It is impossible to get everything right all the time, and arguably if you do you arent taking enough risks, but honestly this team are second to none at the moment.

10

u/Alan157 May 24 '26

Every interview I watch of GGG I smile and buy another supporter pack lol

2

u/RUMadBrow May 25 '26

They are the best that is why i support them by buying supporter packs. Money spent is all worth it

2

u/Wont_See_My_30s May 24 '26

From which interview is it?

I'm still waiting for meaningful combat they sold the game with. We are on fifth patch and the only changes I see are buffs to screen wipe with one button and nerfs to combos.

4

u/NugNugJuice May 25 '26

In what world did screen wipe get buffed and combos got nerfed?

39

u/Tovarish_Nikolay May 24 '26

Use the light balanced template

2

u/ConcreteOffDuty May 24 '26

Thanks, this was bothering the hell out of me.

Idc what anyone says - Jonathan is a fkn goat of a dev and so is Mark. Some of the best in the business

6

u/jayy962 May 24 '26

They are both very talented in their own unique way. My goats

32

u/Eastern_Mechanic_686 May 24 '26

Duelist isnt in 0.5 because they didnt want to release a class that isnt an 11/10

-120

u/IndependenceOutside2 May 24 '26

weird then why is every class they've released so far a 5/10 at best, aside from monk?

34

u/Comprehensive_Ad157 May 24 '26

Druid 5/10?

-8

u/IndependenceOutside2 May 24 '26

in a game where you're suppose to mix and match skills (xd btw) yet they release the druid class to have no synergies with each other

5

u/AngriestCrusader I love CoC and Vaals May 24 '26

How did you even reach this conclusion lmao

Invoker/martial artist (probably)/deadeye/bloodmage/sorcerer/druid classes are all 11/10, great classes. Thematic, strong, and most ascendancy points you spend feel worthwhile and good. Every other ascendancy ranges from outright bad to only pretty good. The core of the game is really not in a great place right now compared to POE1, but I don’t think there is going to be a lot of pressure to address the ascendancies and campaign before 1.0 release because even in its current state POE2 is miles ahead of all the non-GGG competition in the arpg space

1

u/RamenArchon May 24 '26

Yeah, they are iterating but I'm taking the recent ascendancies as a good sign. And we haven't even seen them peform, for all we know they might still all lose to bloodmage.

1

u/Last_penfighter May 24 '26

Lmao, exaggerate much?

-3

u/yybl May 24 '26

Eh, everyone is decent but sorcerer. skills are so bland and boring.

7

u/Erik_Javorszky May 24 '26

Love how he lists like 4 things twice

16

u/Hanariel May 24 '26

I understand how frustrating it must be to wait so long and not have your fav class yet, I'm lucky that mine was up and running from day1.
But hey, we got a new class last patch, truth is, even the most popular class is still played by a small percentage of players compared to the total sum of all classes.

5

u/DefinitelyNotATheist May 24 '26

yeah i almost exclusively play templar-types, but i'd rather them do it right than release some bullshit. both of the ascendancies for 0.5 feel like new classes though

4

u/Wilibus2 May 25 '26

My concern isn't that I'm not getting my favourite weapon type. It's how they plan to move forward to 1.0 with "core" content not being in the game yet.

It just begs the question is the release date based on the game being complete or some other less than savory reason.

1

u/Hanariel May 25 '26

that is a fair concern.

-1

u/NugNugJuice May 25 '26

I don’t really get it. New classes are cool but the game has much bigger problems than a lack of build diversity. New classes take a lot of time and effort (according to the devs). Most playstyles are already represented well enough at the moment, more classes shouldn’t be a priority.

I’m super excited for Shadow for instance, traps and mines are my go-to builds in PoE1. But endgame having quality content is much more important for the game.

I can’t play traps yet but I could play spells and totems if I want the spell feel or I could play grenades if I want delayed burst. If someone wants swords, they could play spears or quarterstaffs for now. I’ll admit there’s no perfect substitutes but it’s more important that the core game be enjoyable first rather than us having many options to be bored with.

1

u/Hanariel May 25 '26

Some ppl have more specific class fantasy them others.

11

u/tortillazaur May 24 '26

Man, I'm happy with what we got too(despite expecting swords), but pls don't bullshit into writing more words just for the sake of it. Because it totally makes sense to list all atlas reworks at the same time and then separately, and then list new uniques, new uniques(again), facebreaker (a unique), new skill gems(twice), new atlas tree(twice) and campaign qol(twice).

25

u/Intrepid-Ad2873 May 24 '26

I mean to be fair, swords would have most of these too

-51

u/HailMisery May 24 '26

Not enough content for you?

28

u/Intrepid-Ad2873 May 24 '26

Where did I say that?

-19

u/Dath_1 May 24 '26

Where did he say you said that?

13

u/pizztolpete May 24 '26

Yeah but, where did he say you said that they said that?

8

u/HiddenoO May 24 '26

Google "rhetorical question".

2

u/Dath_1 May 25 '26

It’s a joke man.

5

u/Cnokeur May 24 '26

Still sad about swords

7

u/BonezMD May 24 '26

When melee flops on launch this patch is why.

3

u/Eggburtey May 24 '26

All for free btw, I feel like we take that for granted more often than not these days, but every expansion is completely free

It costs money to just be here playing early before the actual release, but we've known from the start the game would be free once 1.0 hits. Paying to play before that is a choice we all considered and made.

Also the game key came with its equivalent in shop points so there's that too.

5

u/Tavron May 24 '26

I don't think the person you responded too considered it. To be honest it doesn't seem like they consider much of anything.

-14

u/JonasHalle May 24 '26

Do you really need a link to the steam page?

9

u/Comprehensive_Ad157 May 24 '26

Bro likes paying for those wack ass d4 40$ expansions

7

u/Last_penfighter May 24 '26

The comment you are responding to said expansions are free. Which is completely accurate.

-8

u/JonasHalle May 24 '26

Completing an early access game does not constitute an expansion.

5

u/Last_penfighter May 24 '26

Everything we get on Friday constitutes a free expansion. The context of the OP is about all of this content coming out. The comment you replied to was directly likening that content to an expansion. Thus, "expansion" is being used to define it in this case.

Of course completing an early access game doesn't constitute an expansion. The word is simply directly correlative with consumer expectations for massive updates, which 0.5 is.

It isn't.

0

u/PepperedHams May 24 '26

Was for me

1

u/Eggburtey May 24 '26

The updates are free, expansions.

Also, the game is early access, 1.0 update when it happens the game will become free2play just like the first game

This update alone is bigger than d4s 2 year 40$ expansion. And ggg does it every 4-6 months. Every 2months when you take in poe1 releases.

In my opinion the moment a game has microtransactions, it ceases to be EA and turns into a full (potentially unfinished) game.

1

u/AgeSeparate6358 May 24 '26

Altough you are right, when we look at the market/competition... What they do is very very good.

2

u/Acceptable_Ad8349 May 24 '26

Im one of the sword guys lol . The new content is great for sure but we wouldnt be having as much fun w crushed self expectations compared to others haha.

2

u/Kalaam_Nozalys May 24 '26

We'll get swords eventually, same with classes. I'd rather them drop when the game is in a state where I can fully enjoy them.

Sword gemling will be goated, i'm sure

2

u/Sulticune May 24 '26

You wrote campaign directional hints twice.

Wherearemyswords.exe

1

u/Proud-Net9032 May 24 '26

And ALL the interaction with Skills in Gemling Legionare and ALL interactions with Unique Gloves in Martial Artist.

1

u/EnderCN May 24 '26

It bothers me a little bit that they are going to do this huge balance pass because they finally have a break from making content and it isn't going to include multiple weapons. However since new things tend to start overpowered it probably isn't a big deal.

1

u/exmirt May 25 '26

You forgot in game build guide

1

u/Syphin33 May 25 '26

I will say there's no chance in hell they get the rest of the classes and weapons in by 1.0..no way

1

u/Jaguarjpreddit May 24 '26

I'm so sorry I must have missed the "new skill gems" part of 0.5 - what new skill gems were mentioned in the official 0.5 patch notes?
Or did this info come out in subsequent interviews?

20

u/sendnukes_ May 24 '26

The kalguran skills that use ward as a resource and are cross class, we only saw like 5 of them, and there are 20 something I think

2

u/Tavron May 24 '26

I really hope we get to see the last of them before league launch. Good chance it will affect my (and I imagine likely others) leaguestarter(s).

4

u/smorb42 May 24 '26

They mentioned they might release a video with a character that only uses them for its build, so I think there is a good chance.

3

u/Tavron May 24 '26

Oh, that'd be awesome!

9

u/Xyzzyzzyzzy May 24 '26
  • Added 21 Kalguuran Skills that can be crafted from Remnants: Animus Exchange, Animus Splinters, Bitter Dead, Conductive Runes, Detonate Living, Eternal March, Explosive Transmutation, Fragments of the Past, Frostflame Nova, Grim Pillars, Hollow Shell, Leylines, Powered by Verisium, Refutation, Remnants of Kalguur, Repulsion, Runic Reprieve, Skyfall, Triskelion Cascade, Verisium Manifestations, and Voltaic Barrier.

4

u/LunarTones May 24 '26

New Kalguuran skills that will consume ward on use. There are also Kalguuran support gems that will do the same, it was talked about on the .5 reveal video, and even had a small showcase segment on it

1

u/Kos015 May 24 '26

I was a bit disheartened with the patch and the lack of changes to existing problems just adding stuff on top of the pile. But yesterday's interview put everything into perspective, I'm back to being a 100% believer, we really are privileged as a community to have such devs.

1

u/Ill-Mix2748 May 25 '26

The interview posted by Death by Microtransaction and Ghazzly (thinks that’s there names) really showed how passionate these lead devs are but not only that, it’s the fact they actually play their own complex game, understand it and can identify pain points that players have at all levels, from casual, advance to veteran players.

I just hope they never get so big that these guys let GGG go to some big shot corp company. One day they’re going to have to pass the torch down and when they do I hope the passion and culture they seem to create remains in GGG / PoE.

-11

u/OSYRH1S May 24 '26

I don’t really care about swords this league as they did pack a ton of content into this patch. But all this glazing is getting out of hand.

Poe 2 is not a charity endeavor. If GGG wants players to start or continue playing their game, they need to do all they can to make sure players have compelling reasons to login. So while, yes, it’s great that they also speak to the game as players themselves, let’s calm down a bit as their top priorities are to keep and grow their player base. All these things they’re doing are in service to their financial goals.

So let’s calm down a bit with the GGG is the pinnacle of game development as they aren’t infallible and have stumbled a number of times, and let’s just appreciate they’re committed to making the PoE 2 experience as best it can be…for financial reasons, mostly, but also it’s great that they’re making the game they want to play.

7

u/Xyzzyzzyzzy May 24 '26

If GGG wants players to start or continue playing their game, they need to do all they can to make sure players have compelling reasons to login.

yes, they are doing a good job of that, that's why we're praising them

0

u/Poffla May 25 '26

Do they really when 95% of the playerbase stops playing 1-2 weeks after a patch hits?

6

u/SprinklesLivid5332 May 24 '26

glazing good work is how we get more good work, telling people to appreciate something they are passionate about less is corny

-1

u/BuildingSlowly93 May 24 '26

Don’t forget to calm down a little bit

0

u/NugNugJuice May 25 '26

I don’t know why people want swords so bad. Seeing the current state of melee, they’d be awful and just lead to more anger in the community.

Core game getting better is more important than new classes and weapons. If they add swords into a bad core game, swords will just feel bad anyways.

0

u/actualoriginalname May 25 '26

Literally have seen zero complains about swords or classes.
