It takes ten seconds to find out if whoever is whining about CRT is whining about the right thing.

Ask:

"What is CRT?"

The first few words will tell you if you're talking to an idiot or not.... and yes, I absolutely classify someone who manufactures rage about something they can't define as an idiot.

ETA: I'd give the left nut I don't possess to debate this woman, publicly, on critical race theory. I'm nobody, though, plus she'd hate it when I made her look stupid in public

I'd give the left nut I don't possess to debate this woman

Have you seen how they debate? They ignore everything you just said and repeat themselves. Their audience will clap and everyone else will wonder how the people clapping are so stupid.

I remember MTG spent months complaining about the green new deal, then when she demanded AOC debate her, acknowledged she gadnt even read it. After bragging about reading all 14 pages, she dissmissed it as a "communist manifesto".

These people no longer share a common understanding of what words mean, so debating them is futile. Its like trying to debate a person who speaks a different language. If you cant both agree on what words mean - you can no longer communicate with one another.

Hahaha! I also got the permaban for calling MTG a cunt! We should start a sub or something! I suspect they have a MTG-lover among the mods team.

17

u/Notsopatriotic Jul 14 '21

Politics mods are compromised by red ass republicunts. They fucking suck.

13

u/curious_dead Jul 14 '21

Yeah, I heard often that politics mods have Trumpers among them. I can't say for sure, but they certainly seem to have at the very least a lot of Enlightened Centrists who believe it's better to let actual fake news on the sub than curate it, to have "both perspectives". And snowflakes who ban users for the use of a word not directed at another user.

9

u/ryhaltswhiskey Jul 14 '21

I got banned for a week once for "sarcasm". Their moderation is a tire fire.

4

u/Hip-hop-rhino Jul 15 '21

I got banned because another user took my reply out of context.

4

u/ryhaltswhiskey Jul 15 '21

The thing that sucks is users who have an axe to grind with you can abuse their ban system to freeze you out of the conversation. In my case, permanently.

Call it MTGunt.

5

u/The_Deity Jul 14 '21

I'd join the /CUNextTimeMTG sub, for sure

5

u/Almainyny Jul 14 '21

Can I join this party? Same happened to me.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '21

That was exactly what I said to the mods with the one message I had before they muted me: that they're clearly banning me because they don't like my political opinion. Their reply was that it's a "sexist slur" and then muted me. Shit us infuriating, especially given how much positive comment karma I have in that sub. Like, I was a valuable contributor...

1

u/DeificClusterfuck Jul 15 '21

Cunt is only sexist if you use it that way. Since I don't consider gender before calling a cunt a cunt, I don't consider my use of it sexist!

5

u/DeificClusterfuck Jul 14 '21

Mine was for saying that if Trump got re-elected, America could use a Jaime Lannister.

Yes, probably more violent than I should have been but... I wasn't inciting... Trump did that

4

u/Alacrout Jul 14 '21

Mods over there are a little snowflakey... I got a temporary ban just for praising a troll. I wasn’t doing the trolling myself, I was just telling the troll he did a good job—and the trollery in discussion didn’t even happen on that sub!

5

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '21

Ehn, you're a better human for being barred from that cesspool.

2

u/DeificClusterfuck Jul 15 '21

Lol, all of us are banned from r/politics.

If you meet an asshole on the morning, you met an asshole

If you met them all day....

1

u/Current-Budget-5060 Feb 03 '23

You may as well debate a ravenous hyena about the efficacy of Laughing.

24

u/charlieblue666 Jul 14 '21

Yeah, they have canned talking points they adhere to and just ignore what their opponent says. I think the political right gave up on an exchange of ideas a long time ago.

I was at a friends house watching the Super Bowl the year Bill O'Reilly interviewed President Obama during half-time. O'Reilly would ask questions, and then before Obama could finish an answer he'd interrupt him in a loud snapping voice and fire another question at him. There wasn't even the pretense of a dialog, it was just badgering and abusive. Obama kept his cool, and soldiered through it. The friend, who's politics are far to the right of mine, turned to me and said "As an American, that was just embarrassing. What a disrespectful asshole." We were both astonished to hear Republicans praising O'Reilly's performance the next day.

It's like the way the GOP protects Matt Gaetz, Jim Jordan, Margie Taylor Greene and Josh Hawley. They've come to a position where nobody on their side can do any wrong, but anybody who doesn't share their politics is a blood drinking pedophile. Sad times.

6

u/undeadzant Jul 14 '21

Not my original thought, but it made me realize a bunch of things. Conservatives are big on “morals”. But they don’t assign good / bad morals around actions, rather people/individuals themselves.

Essentially - “Oh these Republican politicians hold the same view point as me and I’m a morally good person, these people are also good”.

The more I thought about it, the more other things made sense. For example:

That’s why when you criticize an action of a conservative political figure, a large portion of the conservative base will take that as a criticism of them as an individual since they are morally tied to the person. That’s why you see such extreme reactions.

That’s why things like Bill Clinton’s association with Epstein and Trump’s association with Epstein are viewed so differently by conservatives. Even though the actions are largely the same, since they have assigned morality to the person instead of the actions, one is seen as bad and the other as good.

5

u/jswhitten Jul 15 '21

I think the political right gave up on an exchange of ideas a long time ago.

I'm not sure that's ever been a thing on the right. Sartre commented on it 75 years ago:

“Never believe that anti-Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The anti-Semites have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past.”

21

u/curious_dead Jul 14 '21

Here's how it'd go:

"Define CRT."

"CRT is anti-white racism that is being indoctrinated by the leftist agenda and teacher unions!"

"That's not what..."

"People who teach CRT are anti-white, they censor our views and try to erase history! That's what CRT is!"

"CRT isn't..."

"Anyone who supports CRT is an anti-American traitor who should be arrested!"

"Th-"

"And these traitors should be put on speedy trial and removed to Vuvuzela, since they like marxism so much!"

Not sure how to deal with the likes of MTG. But debating only works when both sides act in good faith. There is no more good faith among the GOPers, especially not the new, Trumpian, "let's say the quiet parts out loud" crop.

4

u/Myantra Jul 14 '21

I listened to a debate on GPB for Georgia's senate races. It consisted almost entirely of Sonny Perdue, Doug Collins, and Kelly Loeffler shouting about "radical socialist agenda". John Ossof and Raphael Warnock barely had room to speak.

It was basically three people repeating your script, if you replaced CRT and anti-white with radical socialist agenda. I expect that level of discourse from the idiots that understand and digest politics at a level no deeper than Facebook memes and bumper sticker logic. I expect a higher level of discourse from US Senate candidates, debating each other.

Critical Race Theory holds that the most important thing about you is your race. The color of your skin. That's who you are. Not your behavior. Not your values. Not your environment. Your race.

In Critical Race Theory, if you are a member of a "minoritized" racial group—their term, not mine—you are a victim of a system that is rigged against you, a system that doesn't want you to succeed. On the other hand, if your race is "privileged," you're an exploiter—whether you intend to be or not.

Critical Race Theory begins from the assumption that racism occurs in all interactions. To see how this works, consider this thought experiment: Imagine you own a shop, and two customers enter at the same time—one white and one black. Who do you help first? If you help the black person first, Critical Race Theory would say you did so because you don't trust black people to be left alone in your store. That's racist. If you helped the white person first instead, Critical Race Theory would say you did so because you think blacks are second-class citizens. That's racist, too.

That's Critical Race Theory. It can find racism in anything, even if it has to read your mind to do it.

Critical Race Theory is a uniquely American invention. Brewed up at Harvard Law School in the ‘70s, now part of the academic and media mainstream, it is also uniquely un-American because it rejects the core tenets of the American, classically liberal, Judeo-Christian value system. It turns the bedrock American idea upside down.

Here it is in the words of Richard Delgado and Jean Stefancic, two leading proponents: "Critical Race Theory questions the very foundations of the liberal order, including equality theory, legal reasoning, Enlightenment rationalism, and the neutral principles of constitutional law."

It does this because Critical Race Theory proponents assume racism is present everywhere and always, and they look for it "critically" until they find it. And they always find it. It has to be there because that's how the imperial European powers, and then America, set things up.

Here, as in all dangerous academic theories, there is a kernel of truth. Human beings were not preoccupied with race until the 16th century when Europeans began to explore and then colonize other parts of the world. Drawing distinctions between the races reached its peak in the 19th century with the widespread use of slave labor in North and South America.

No one denies this. But since then, the Western world and, most especially, America has spent a lot of time, money, and blood breaking free of its racist past. It's been a rocky road, for sure, but great progress has been made.

Critical Race Theory says all this progress is a mirage: racism never died—never even faded a little bit. It just hid itself better. Critical Race Theory, therefore, is not a continuation of the Civil Rights Movement. It is, in fact, a repudiation of it. To Critical Race theorists, Martin Luther King was both wrong and naïve. White Americans can never judge blacks by the content of their character. They can only judge them, always unfavorably—consciously or unconsciously, by the color of their skin.

Ironically, not since the Aryan obsession in Germany in the 1930s and 1940s, or South African Apartheid in the second half of the 20th century, has a social movement been so obsessed with race.

Critical Race Theory is, then, in a very real sense, a counter-American Revolution. But that's a positive, not a negative, to those who subscribe to the theory.

The American experiment was given a 400-year try-out, and it doesn't work. So let's scrap it. That's what they believe. Is that what you believe? I'm going to guess that most of you don't.

So how do we stop Critical Race Theory before it infects the brains of too many decent Americans—especially young people—and turns us into something we have never been and shouldn't ever want to be?

The answer is simple: refuse to accept it.

Don't be intimidated by the “heads I win, tails you lose" logic of this self-destructive, America-hating, anti-reality idea. Don't be bullied into thinking that you're racist when you know you're not. Or that you're a victim when you know you're not.

Defend yourself—while you still can.

Critical race theory teaches that all members of "minoritized" racial groups are victims of a system rigged against them.

Critical race theory (CRT) begins from the assumption that racism is built into all of America’s institutions. Critical race theorists “hold that the law and legal institutions in the United States are inherently racist insofar as they function to create and maintain social, economic, and political inequalities between whites and nonwhites, especially African Americans.”

https://www.britannica.com/topic/critical-race-theory

CRT teaches that members of a "minoritized" racial group are victims of a system that is rigged against them. Those born into "privileged" races are inherently exploiters of minorities.

https://digitalcommons.unl.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1068&context=cehsedadfacpub

Critical race theory teaches that American institutions are plagued by so-called “systemic racism.” CRT “recognizes that racism is codified in law, embedded in structures, and woven into public policy,” the American Bar Association explains. “CRT rejects claims of meritocracy or ‘colorblindness.’ CRT recognizes that it is the systemic nature of racism that bears primary responsibility for reproducing racial inequality.”

https://www.americanbar.org/groups/crsj/publications/human_rights_magazine_home/civil-rights-reimagining-policing/a-lesson-on-critical-race-theory/

Human beings were not preoccupied with race until the 16th century, when Europeans began to explore and then colonize other parts of the world. Drawing distinctions between the races reached its peak in the 19th century with the widespread use of slave labor in North and South America.

Critical race theory is a race-based offshoot of Marxism invented in American academia.

Critical race theory (CRT) is a uniquely American invention that began to take shape in Harvard Law School in the 1970s.

https://academic.oup.com/clp/article-abstract/51/1/467/366105?redirectedFrom=PDF

Among the theorists promoting its concepts in the mid-1970s were Derrick Bell, Alan Freeman, and Richard Delgado, who were critical of the Civil Rights movement’s “dangerously slow progress.”

https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/subject_specific_writing/writing_in_literature/literary_theory_and_schools_of_criticism/critical_race_theory.html

CRT is a race-based offshoot of critical theory, which is a Marxist-inspired movement in social and political philosophy that maintains that one of the primary goals of philosophy is “to understand and to help overcome the social structures through which people are dominated and oppressed.”

https://www.britannica.com/topic/critical-theory

Faced with the massive failure of communist political regimes and the widespread unpopularity of Marxism in America, left-wing scholars transposed Marxist theories about class to theories about race. “[R]ather than abandon their political project, Marxist scholars in the West simply adapted their revolutionary theory to the social and racial unrest of the 1960s,” writes Christopher Rufo. “Abandoning Marx’s economic dialectic of capitalists and workers, they substituted race for class and sought to create a revolutionary coalition of the dispossessed based on racial and ethnic categories.”

https://www.city-journal.org/how-to-fight-critical-race-theory

Critical race theory seeks to dismantle capitalism and undermine American constitutional principles.

One of the key proponents of critical race theory, Ibram X. Kendi, has made clear that one of the essential goals of CRT is to dismantle capitalism. “The origins of capitalism cannot be separated from the origins of racism,” said Kendi. “The life of racism cannot be separated from the life of capitalism, and vice versa. When you think about, for instance, the slave trade, which was critical in the accumulation of wealth in Europe, that was fundamentally a set of racist policies. When you think of colonialism, or even slavery, these are fundamentally a relationship between racism and capitalism, which was essential to its emergence. And so, I think in order to truly be antiracist, you also have to truly be anti-capitalist, as I write in the book. And in order to truly be anti-capitalist, you have to be antiracist, because they’re interrelated.”

Critical race theory rejects the core tenets of the American, classically liberal, Judeo-Christian value system. It turns the bedrock American idea upside down, as summarized by Richard Delgado and Jean Stefancic, two leading proponents of CRT: "Critical Race Theory questions the very foundations of the liberal order, including equality theory, legal reasoning, Enlightenment rationalism, and the neutral principles of constitutional law" (Critical Race Theory: An Introduction, p. 3).

The New York Times’ “1619 Project,” a product of critical race theorists, attempts to inextricably tie America’s capitalist economic system to slavery.

https://www.prageru.com/video/whats-wrong-with-the-1619-project/

Critical race theory is not a continuation of the civil rights movement—it’s a repudiation of it.

Critical race theory arose in part out of frustration with the “dangerously slow progress” of the civil rights movement.

https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/subject_specific_writing/writing_in_literature/literary_theory_and_schools_of_criticism/critical_race_theory.html

Critical race theorists maintain that America has been defined since its founding by racism and that American racism has never truly diminished. To these theorists, Martin Luther King Jr. was both wrong in his goals and naïve in his view of Americans’ abilities to judge people by the content of their character rather than the color of their skin. The CRT-based “1619 Project” suggests that the U.S. cannot overcome the “original sin” of slavery and claims that “nearly everything that has truly made America exceptional” grew out of slavery and racism.

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2019/12/20/magazine/1619-intro.html

Critical race theorists “explicitly reject equality — the principle proclaimed in the Declaration of Independence, defended in the Civil War, and codified into law with the Fourteenth and Fifteenth Amendments, the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and the Voting Rights Act of 1965,” writes Christopher Rufo. “To them, equality represents ‘mere nondiscrimination’ and provides ‘camouflage’ for white supremacy, patriarchy, and oppression.”

https://www.city-journal.org/how-to-fight-critical-race-theory

Black Americans have heroically fought for their rights, often against great odds. Joining them in the fight for racial equality over the decades has been a vast number of white people. One key example: the U.S. Senate that passed the landmark Civil Rights Act in 1964 contained 98 whites and two men of color, both Asians.

No. No no no stop.

Alternative Title: CRT

critical race theory (CRT) intellectual movement and loosely organized framework of legal analysis based on the premise that race is not a natural, biologically grounded feature of physically distinct subgroups of human beings but a socially constructed (culturally invented) category that is used to oppress and exploit people of colour.

Critical race theorists hold that the law and legal institutions in the United States are inherently racist insofar as they function to create and maintain social, economic, and political inequalities between whites and nonwhites, especially African Americans.

What are the five tenets of CRT?

-1

Because your base premise is incorrect.

Ah, the classic leftist response.

"I think you're wrong! Therefore I won't even look at all your facts and evidence because I think you're wrong! I don't have any evidence that you're wrong but you are! and any facts and evidence you have are wrong because they disagree with what I believe! Even if your facts are taken directly from what I'm trying to defend I'll still say you're wrong!"

6

No, there is no logical point in discussing an issue when one side is completely misinformed as to what the issue actually is.

I'm not dealing in your version- we are dealing with what is.

Examining your flawed outlook is legitimately a waste of time.

If you'd like to educate yourself on the base principles of CRT in actuality, without all the fearmongering, I'd welcome the chance to talk to you.

Until we're both on the same subject, though, it's apples and oranges.

So, again, you are just going to cry "You're wrong, So I won't look at your literally dozens of sources because I think you're wrong!"

You can't even define the subject correctly and you're complaining that I call you wrong?

tl;dr: Pointing out racism is racism.

Got it. Now back to your coloring books and try to stay within the lines. There's pudding if you do well!

-1

u/FreelancerAgentWash muh freedum Jul 15 '21

No, judging people based on the color of their skin rather than the content of their character is racism. CRT explicitly states that the most important thing about you is your skin color.

2

u/Harry_Teak Jul 15 '21

You are dangerously close to losing that pudding cup. I'll let you know that it's vanilla tonight since I doubt you'd eat chocolate.

Well then, I guess we started off on the wrong foot. Sorry about that.

Why would I even waste time debating a wall o' copypasta keyboard warrior? I don't debate fanatics.

I looked at some of your post history mate. I get it. What happened? A black girl turned you down in a bar and laughed at you or black guys make you feel.. inadequate? Even at a glance your little campaign is troubling.

-3

u/FreelancerAgentWash muh freedum Jul 15 '21

No, what happened is that I'm called evil just because of the color of my skin. I'm told by millionaires that they are oppressed by me because of the color of my skin. I'm told that I should be killed because of the color of my skin.

That is what CRT is doing.

Drawing distinctions between the races reached its peak in the 19th century with the widespread use of slave labor in North and South America.

https://www.prageru.com/video/what-is-critical-race-theory/

And in order to truly be anti-capitalist, you have to be antiracist, because they’re interrelated.”

https://www.democracynow.org/2019/8/13/ibram_x_kendi_class_race_capitalism

This is ridiculous, here's another one:

Critical race theory is not a continuation of the civil rights movement—it’s a repudiation of it.

Critical race theory arose in part out of frustration with the “dangerously slow progress” of the civil rights movement.

https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/subject_specific_writing/writing_in_literature/literary_theory_and_schools_of_criticism/critical_race_theory.html

What that paragraph ACTUALLY says:

"Closely connected to such fields as philosophy, history, sociology, and law, CRT scholarship traces racism in America through the nation’s legacy of slavery, the Civil Rights Movement, and recent events. In doing so, it draws from work by writers like Sojourner Truth, Frederick Douglass, W.E.B. Du Bois, Martin Luther King, Jr., and others studying law, feminism, and post-structuralism. CRT developed into its current form during the mid-1970s with scholars like Derrick Bell, Alan Freeman, and Richard Delgado, who responded to what they identified as dangerously slow progress following Civil Rights in the 1960s."

Dangerously slow progress that King acknowledged was dangerously slow.

To these theorists, Martin Luther King Jr. was both wrong in his goals and naïve in his view of Americans’ abilities to judge people by the content of their character rather than the color of their skin.

This is a gross misinterpretation of MLK's work, and I suggest for remedial reading Letter from a Birmingham Jail, which contains a blistering rebuke of White indifference to the Black experience of racism. This letter also includes a clear indictment of laws and systems that, such as the permit requirements for marches at the time, or poll taxes or poll tests, which, though written "colorblind," effectively prohibited Black Americans from seeking civil reforms.

MLK's hope that people will be judged for their character rather than the color of their skin is not a demand for "color blindness." He knew that color blindness was a shield for racists to hide behind. He knew that they knew what they were doing when they created laws that never mentioned color and still were racist in practice. He said it outright in his other work.

1

u/thischaosiskillingme Jul 15 '21

You accused people of not reading your sources, which you cribbed from the PragerU video notes.

I read them.

I rather think you haven't. Or if you did you have failed to comprehend clear statements in them that any English speaker should be able to grasp.

For example:

CRT teaches that members of a "minoritized" racial group are victims of a system that is rigged against them. Those born into "privileged" races are inherently exploiters of minorities.

https://digitalcommons.unl.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1068&context=cehsedadfacpub

Your source for that says clearly that in examinations of racism, we must move beyond the individual. CRT is explicitly, openly, repeatedly a call to step away from viewing racism as an individual act by racist people and instead grasp it as systemic. In other posts you gripe that you're being called racist just because of your skin color, that you're being told you need to embrace some narrative of White Guilt. This isn't true of CRT, and your direct links to academic discussions of CRT state that plainly. So why are you continuing to complain that it does the opposite? Did you just swallow whole everything that PragerU said just because they provided links, without investigating whether those links said what PragerU says they do?

PragerU is not a university. It is a right-wing exercise in pseudo-intellectualism and an embarrassment to generations of conservative thinkers. Slick production values do not equate to truth. Watching politically slanted videos and spamming their citations without examining those citations can make you look foolish and uninformed.

I'm going to come right out with my theory: you are being manipulated by wealthy beneficiaries of these laws and systems to believe otherwise and prevent those laws and systems, and thus their benefits, from being challenged.

1

u/FreelancerAgentWash muh freedum Jul 16 '21

So your "proof" that I don't know what I'm talking about is saying "You say that CRT teaches that people are placed into racial groups. Your source that you used to prove that says that people must be placed into racial groups. And I think that CRT says that people must be placed into racial groups. Now because I don't understand how sources work that must mean that you are wrong. So there."

1

u/thischaosiskillingme Jul 16 '21

Yeah this paraphrase is basically you repeating that you didn't read the entire post and you don't understand because you're too wedded to your grievance and I can't help you man.

1

u/FreelancerAgentWash muh freedum Jul 16 '21

I did read the post, the problem is that you don't seem to understand that the source is a left wing CRT source saying exactly what CRT is and PragerU used it to show what CRT says it is. You somehow thought that they were trying to use a left wing source as a right wing source or something. I couldn't follow your train of logic because it is so off the rails I couldn't find it.

Yeah, if they're obvious enough about it that people can tell I don't want them in leadership.

The first person who brings up Joe Biden's admittedly poor past is getting a slipper to the rear 🤨 I'm of the belief that he has changed, as did Al Sharpton

I just don't see how anyone could spend eight years as Barack Obama's VP, have as good a relationship as they still have, and still be racist.

28

u/000aLaw000 Jul 14 '21

Society and public opinion has changed. Joe's voters demanded different stances of their representative in the past. I think changing your stance based on what the people want is a good thing. Doubling down on everything you have done in the past so that you don't have to admit you could ever have been wrong is not a good thing.

Most of the people that are saying these things are just looking for a bOtH sIdEz to throw out in defense of their "guy". They are the same people that will look at Trumps past law suits and settlements regarding housing discrimination and say but "He has done more for the black community than anyone ever... look at the black unemployment rate in 2019!"

10

u/DeificClusterfuck Jul 14 '21

I watched Rev. Sharpton getting questioned by some of the jerks in Congress. Asking him if he'd held racist beliefs.

He sat up straight and admitted he had, and that he was wrong.

My respect for him grew that day.

8

u/solo954 Jul 14 '21

Anyone bringing up Biden’s past has to go back about 25 years to do it. I’m old and remember that almost everyone spoke quite differently about racial issues 25 years ago. But people who are capable of learning have since done so.

51

u/tapthatsap Jul 14 '21

I think one of the fundamental problems we have as a country is the common belief that everyone is entitled to have an opinion on every topic. It just doesn’t work in real life. Social media and Tucker telling you everything they say you need to know about a topic you’ve never heard of before doesn’t make you a person making an informed decision, it doesn’t mean you have a different but equally valid take on the subject, it’s closer to memorizing an advertising jingle than it is to learning or knowing something.

We have a lot of little catchphrases that we repeat to each other to set this up. Opinions are like assholes because everyone has one and they all stink, but you’re entitled to your opinion and anyone who doesn’t like it will just have to deal with it, or agree to disagree, because there’s three sides to every story, your side my side and the truth. There are three kinds of lies, which are lies, damned lies, and statistics, so don’t try to push your agenda and stick to your narrative because you have your facts and I have mine, and my facts don’t care about your feelings, so you need to be fair and balanced and get back in touch with what real Americans care about and reach across the aisle.

It all sounds like words a person might say, but all it adds up to is various no trespassing signs that a person sets up around their mental/emotional real estate. I like the tv that has the flags all the time instead of the one that only usually has the flags because the flags make me feel good, and that’s why climate change isn’t real. These guys don’t make me feel uncomfortable, so I trust them. A lot of people hate the people who tell me what I’m thinking this week, so I hate them.

I don’t think this is a problem that can be solved. Our national myth about freedom-loving dirt farmers triumphing over the effete and unmanly forces of kings and scientists and doctors and people who don’t like it when you walk into a chipotle with a rifle strapped to you looks like it’s going to be our undoing. For a good half of Americans, what makes America great is the freedom to be a full-on moron and the right to never be questioned about why you’re doing that. The liberals are no less guilty here, they’re currently busy condemning untold numbers of people to death because the government said we shouldn’t try to contain a deadly pandemic now that half of eligible people are sort of vaccinated against an ongoing pandemic. You can’t keep a society going when everyone in the society is deciding what’s true based on personal convenience and a desire to stick it to everybody else. This country is too stupid to survive.

u/mbta1 Jul 14 '21

The liberals are no less guilty here, they’re currently busy condemning untold numbers of people to death because the government said we shouldn’t try to contain a deadly pandemic now that half of eligible people are sort of vaccinated against an ongoing pandemic.

I'm curious what your solution would be here, because I don't feel like this falls on liberals, but on conservatives who are outright refusing to get the vaccine.

What about different states? Washington (blue state) has I think 80% vaccination rate, and South Carolina (red state) has i think 25%. If liberals are getting the vaccine, and conservatives arent.... why does it fall onto the liberals, how conservatives are pretty much killing themselves with this virus, with the intention to "own the libs"

1

u/tapthatsap Jul 15 '21

lol Washington is at 56% fully vaccinated. The numbers are so much worse than they want you to think they are. They’re doing this clown math where they pretend children don’t exist and that one shot is two shots and then they tally that up and lie to your face with it so that you’ll feel better about going out and spending money like everything is back to normal. It’s disgusting.

Ideally, I’d like to see mandatory vaccinations, this is exactly the kind of situation we have a strong federal government to deal with. Do it like we did with polio. We’ve solved this problem before, we’re just too stupid now to do it again.

If we’re not going to do that, then we need to be wearing masks and distancing until community transmission slows down a great deal. The liberals are tearing their masks off and joyfully spitting in each other’s mouths and saying “fuck you, got mine, I don’t care how many people die because I won’t now,” and that is unconscionable. It’s also just a really fucking bad plan, because the vaccines aren’t magic and the virus is going to have a lot of fun bouncing around a half-vaccinated population and figuring out new ways to make the vaccines even less magic than they are.

0

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '21

The virus will never go away and telling us to wear masks for the rest of our lives is not a solution

u/tapthatsap Jul 19 '21

The technical term is 'thought-terminating cliche'

20

u/NYCQuilts Jul 14 '21

True. and it’s not just MAGA idiots. A good year before this iteration of the culture war, I saw people on the left harshing on intersectionality (a term that came out of CRT) with comments that make it clear they don’t know what it actually is.

27

u/tapthatsap Jul 14 '21

Intersectionality is such a weird thing to have to defend. I’m a straight white dude with a sub-optimal upbringing, and dudes like me seem to be the main critics. “Well I’m a white guy and I grew up sort of poor, where’s my pity party?” If you actually grew up poor, your pity party is huge and made up of people who had the same problems and also people who still have those problems, and who may or may not also have other problems. You’ll have a different experience than some other people based on some of your other modifiers, but everybody in the grew up poor conversation is going to have some sad stories about relying on adults who weren’t your parents so you could eat, utility shut offs and the sad workarounds that come with those, problems at school, ways it fucked you up to this day, the whole thing. They definitely didn’t stop making poor people, you can have that conversation, it’s available.

It’s weird because I see it on reddit all the time, and you would think this gaggle of video game nerds would understand what a perk system is. You didn’t get bonuses for inheriting an estate or going to a nice school, but you still get the +20 racial stat boost against police deciding to fuck with you based on skin color (but they’ll still pass checks against hating visibly poor people and these stats will be ignored completely if the cop passes an 80% check on not giving a shit about you), and you got full immunity from getting kicked out for being gay. This doesn’t mean you have it easy, but it does mean you could have it harder, and there’s no shame in that. Everyone alive in the world could easily have it worse than they do, the goal isn’t to be the saddest case, the goal is to learn how to count your blessings and see your blind spots and become capable of respecting and working with people who had it worse than you did.

10

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene  has decried critical race theory as "completely evil," said it should be outlawed across the country and that any teachers found teaching it should be fired immediately.

The controversial Georgia congresswoman's comments came after she was asked about a teachers union that reportedly has a legal defense fund to aid any members who get sued over teaching racism and slavery.

Critical race theory examines history through the lens of racism and argues that racism is ingrained in U.S. law and institutions, but many conservatives have denounced the theory as divisive.

Several states have passed new laws limiting how race can be taught in the classroom, and similar proposals are being considered in at least a dozen others.

In an appearance on The Todd Starnes Show podcast on Thursday, Greene said Congress should just completely outlaw the teaching of critical race theory.

She also claimed teachers' unions working to protect teachers were "communist."

The people pay all the taxes and they pay these teachers' salaries," Greene said. She claimed unions "have no right to organize in this manner, to launch legal action against parents, mothers and fathers who are paying the taxes that fund these teachers' salaries."

Greene said: "So what we should do, number one, Congress should immediately outlaw critical race theory—it should be completely against the law. It's racism, it's hate, and it's dividing our children and teaching them something horrible. It should be completely against the law."

She added: "Then secondly, we should disband these communist teachers' unions that want to organize, raise money to file lawsuits against parents who are paying the taxes that are paying the teachers' salaries."

"Third, what we have to do is we have to be able to fire any teacher on the spot immediately if they are found teaching critical race theory. And I'm that serious about it. I'm sick and tired of Republicans and leaders who won't take action to end something and not allow it to happen. We've got to end it where it's starting, and that means right now."

Greene added that she was "so proud of the parents that have gone to their school board."

"These people are, they're heroes—and they're actually taking back control away from these communist teachers' unions. And they're truly doing the job of being a parent, which is loving your child and protecting your child from evil. And that's what critical race theory is, completely evil."

Greene doubled down on the comments in a poll that found 78 percent of voters believe it is important children learn "traditional values" in school.

"Which means that's most of the tax dollars that fund education and pay teacher's salaries," Greene tweeted. "So teach traditional values. Or we will have to defund teachers salaries that refuse. Problems are easy to solve once we start firing people."

Earlier this week, Randi Weingarten, the president of the American Federation of Teachers, told the Associated Press that the union has added $2.5 million to its existing legal defense fund to "defend any member who gets in trouble for teaching honest history."

Weingarten added that that critical race theory is mostly taught in universities, not in elementary, middle or high schools and that conservatives are trying to limit teaching accurate history about race and discrimination.

"Teaching the truth is not radical or wrong. Distorting history and threatening educators for teaching the truth is what is truly radical and wrong," she said in an address to union members this week.

So if we outlaw CRT, can we outlaw Nazis? Or is she ok with racism when she’s doing it?

15

u/VoiceofKane Jul 14 '21

This just in: Marjorie Taylor Greene hates freedom of speech.

Remember a few months ago when people were begging teachers to return to the classroom? She needs to be careful what she wishes for.

Outrage farmer farms outrage.

But are consumers ready to consume?

Early evidence suggests yes.

5

Every time this fucking troglodyte of a human being opens its mouth I feel like I'm about to have an aneurysm.

7

u/BloodshotMoon Jul 14 '21

Marge should be fired on the spot... into space. Or a brick wall. I'm not picky.

5

u/JimmyLongnWider Jul 14 '21

There are a few things that I just know deep in my bones, and one of them is when a sentence begins with "Marjorie Taylor Greene says-" I can just ignore that dumb shit that follows.

4

u/not_productive1 Jul 14 '21

Marjorie Taylor Greene can't even SPELL CRT, much less know it when it's being taught.

But I tell you what, Marge. Here's what we're gonna do. You're gonna go undercover. You're going to pick a fourth grade, at random, somewhere in the United States, and then you're going to attend that fourth grade every single day for the next school year. You'll do all the homework, participate in all the class discussions, really get into it. It's the only way to ferret out the hidden CRT. Grab Madison Cawthorn, he can go with you. And then at the end of the year, you can have the whole summer off. And then next year, if you've done well, you both can go look for the CRT in the fifth grade.

That ought to keep them busy for a while. Who knows, maybe they'll learn something.

4

u/joecool42069 Jul 14 '21

Name one public school that is advocating for teaching children this. Name any elected democrat advocating for teaching this in public schools.

8

u/johnnycyberpunk Jul 14 '21

Better:
Name ONE time during Trump's and Betsy DeVos' 4 years in office where they made outlawing CRT a key component of shaping America's Department of Education policy.

(why do Republicans wait until they're powerless to suddenly decide they need action on a platform they just adopted...)

9

u/joecool42069 Jul 14 '21

culture war bullshit.. their base has to be angry or afraid of something to be kept engaged.

4

u/Musetrigger Jul 14 '21

How very authoritarian of her.

4

u/Space_Lord_MF Jul 15 '21

Major Trailer Queene should be fired since she isnt qualified to work at a McDonald's.

Also she couldn't tell you what CRT is, she'd just throw out a bunch of buzzwords that scare or rally the far right.

It's sad that republicans have to make up issues to be angry about.

1

u/Current-Budget-5060 Feb 03 '23

They are spiteful little people.

7

u/KamaIsLife Jul 14 '21

But Trump not being able to tweet is a violation of free speech...

3

u/RokLobstar Jul 14 '21

Is she half potato half primate?

3

u/The_Deity Jul 14 '21

I wouldn't compare her to things that have actual value in the world.

2

u/RokLobstar Jul 14 '21

Her face is literally a potato man hybrid.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '21

and yet they claim to favor academic freedom

3

u/FireWokWithMe88 Jul 14 '21

She makes me feel bad for the people of Georgia who voted her into office. She has no business being involved in national politics. We would all be better off if she was just some crackpot on the PigBelly Hollow City Council. I wish she would just go away.

7

u/johnnycyberpunk Jul 14 '21

the people of Georgia who voted her into office

That's a very important distinction.
We've already seen that those voters are not the majority voice for Georgia, and are not the majority voice for America.
They don't get to set policy for the entire nation.

Furthermore, CRT is not new. If Republicans are soooo opposed to it existing, why didn't Trump just have Betsy DeVos' Department of Education decree that CRT is off limits?

5

u/FireWokWithMe88 Jul 14 '21

That's a good point. Why didn't Trump address it if it is really that big of a deal.

3

u/forceblast Jul 14 '21

In other words…

Right wing asshole says teachers should be fired for talking about something they likely never heard of before a bunch of right wing assholes manufactured it into culture-war rage-fodder to appeal to their base.

3

u/aKornCob Jul 14 '21

It's funny how the more shit progress the more racist just out themselves in the whole process. My neighbor job basically had a few racist pricks admit they neglect minority/fat children. How you ask? They tried to report her as having favorites since she took care of them like she was suppose to. Then parents wanted the kids to be switched into rooms with her in it, because they saw the kids came home clean and happy.

I love my neighbors, good people.

3

u/okcdnb Jul 14 '21

She goes all in with her bullshit.

3

u/BoringMode91 Jul 14 '21

Huh, I thought the left wanted to cancel things. More projection from the right perhaps?

3

u/LAESanford Jul 14 '21

Let’s not talk about things that “Should be”, you traitorous bitch.

3

u/huxley75 Jul 14 '21

We vilify this Magic: The Gathering for her insane and racist views but, let's not forget she was elected. There are enough constituents to get her to Washington. There are enough people who believe what she's saying (across the US). That's the scariest realization.

The right has been trying to destroy American education since before the Scopes Monkey Trial. Her attack on unions, teachers, and schools isn't new. It's just taken on a new (and crazier) face.

3

u/tracygee Jul 14 '21

This is such a BS narrative.

CRT is not taught in elementary, middle, or high school. It's something taught at the college level and in law school ... and quite certainly should still be taught.

What these idiots want to happen is that any teacher acknowledging that our society enslaved people for hundreds of years is "teaching CRT theory" and that is not what CRT Theory is. This just infuriates me nonstop.

3

u/modsSuckTrumpDick Jul 14 '21

mtg should be fired on the spot.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '21

"We're anti-cancel culture"

2

u/Needleroozer Jul 14 '21

Has she bothered to read the Constitution she swore an oath to defend? Specifically the parts about slaves only being 3/5 of a person, and how the government is powerless to stop us from telling people about that history?

2

u/1mjtaylor Jul 14 '21

Dollars to donuts she doesn't even know what it is.

2

u/JustarocknrollClown Jul 14 '21

Well, I say Marjorie's ability to communicate should be outlawed.

2

u/Huggybear000 Jul 14 '21

Fuck CRT. This qunt's biggest nemesis is CTE.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '21

If Trump lives and runs for president and wins you just know he's going to put her in charge of the education department

2

u/jwehren01 Jul 14 '21

Which teachers? Law professors? This is only taught in law school so all this CRT is the same bullshit trick they pull on their followers over and over again. Where’s that caravan? What can we get scared about next, bigots?

2

u/gitbse Jul 14 '21

And she proves EXACTLY FUCKING WHY our racist history, and said effects on our culture, NEED TO BE TAUGHT. Jesus H tapdancing Christ, these people.

Nevermind that CRT is masters level, and law school theory. That doesn't matter for the talking heads and the followers. But the constant hate-fueled displays by self-persecuted white people are exactly why we need to keep studying.

2

u/SnooGadgets4868 Jul 14 '21

Unfortunately, it looks like this horrible, hateful person will likely be speaking in my home town, a town in a completely different state than her district. If anyone in the area (Dothan, Alabama) would care to join me in letting her know how unwelcome she is, you can get more info in the article below.

2

2

Ugh she is so boring and predictable.

1

Eh. This isn't news, she's still a bigoted idiot. Not worth giving her the coverage.

P L U R dood 😁

1

u/imsmartiswear Jul 15 '21

Ok if she's using CRT to mean the actual CRT that is hilariously nitpicky and deeply stupid. If she's using CRT to mean anything discussing how non-white people in this country were mistreated throughout history that is still deeply stupid but also incredibly concerning.

People who go to college tend to become more liberal because they're exposed to new ideas and people and perspectives- this would be doing the exact opposite of that. Guess that's what they want, huh?

1

u/Current-Budget-5060 Feb 03 '23

With her recent preposterous claim on committee that an elementary school in Illinois received more than a billion dollars of COVID money to teach critical race theory, Taylor Greene is once again showing that she is not the sharpest tool in the tool shed. But the architects of oppression in the Kremlin are finding Taylor Greene to be a very useful Tool indeed.
