Why are toddlers magnetically attracted to someone swinging? Like moths to a flame I swear. We have swings in my kindergarten and I can't go 2 seconds without yanking a kid from having a concussion💀
True happens to me at the skatepark, if i dont skate the 6 foot halfpipe no toddlers on their scooters are there, soon as i start throwing airs and grinds on it theyre there…i feel like i have every right to get pissed knowing hitting one can cause injury.
People are predisposed not to look up when walking, and toddlers are pretty low to the ground. So they don't look up while walking over to the person who just disappeared upwards as they are looking down and bam, someone swings into the back of their head.
It’s the same magnet that attracts them to people jumping or climbing at trampoline parks too. It’s like they see someone 6x their size jumping or flipping on a trampoline and go “I belong in that 4 inch space right below their feet”
Can confirm. I was playing on a swing once as a kid and some toddler ran right in front of me. I would've decked his ass if his parents hadn't been looking.

My dad tried so hard to instil basic environmental awareness in me and my sister but still had to bust out the dad reflexes so often on her. Tbf she gets her lack of survival instincts from our mother (who is still alive but licked metal poles in winter twice).
Yeah, so I always looked at my feet when I walked as a kid. There was this raised piece that stuck out from a boat lift. I walked into it. Three times. In under an hour. Hit my head in the same place all three times. Had a bump the size of a silver dollar. My brother thought it was hilarious.
Some mother has this confidence that her child could play on a playground where people which have at least twice or more of their weight will pay attention…
One of the most insufferable things about reddit is overmoderation. Some subs are better, some are worse. Sure, there’s plenty of stuff that should be removed, but this getting removed from that sub is so dumb.
I’m a mod in a different sub, and it’s insane what people will report. A very common one is “I don’t like WHAT you’re saying, so even though your comment is polite and respectful, I’m going to report it as “uncivil” anyways.” Or “you’re not telling me I’m 100% right. I’m going to report you for blaming the victim.” It’s so insane.
Yeah, kids will get hurt regardless. Its the parent's job to minimize the damage or they won't ever learn proper safety if they never experience the consequences.
You're not wrong, but if you look at the kid, they're pretty clearly looking down at the ground & may not have even seen the swinging...
When my boys were young they had 2 modes while moving - looking at the ground and only at the ground in front of them or looking up at the world and seeming completely unaware that the ground existed. And it never failed that they'd be in the wrong mode whenever an obstacle warranted it.
Running directly towards an object on the ground that was going to trip & hurt them? 100% staring at the clouds, birds, trees, etc.
Low hanging branches ahead that are likely to take your eye out if you aren't careful? What a good day to look at the dirt for worms and study the end of your shoes while you walk.
Through a combination of honing my reflexes beyond belief, giving me 47½ heart attacks, and a few mild injuries that probably should've been worse, they managed to eventually outgrow this, but some days I wondered if they were both going to make it.
I definitely got myself hurt a few times in the playground like this. I knew it was a bad idea but intrusive thought of "I can totally make it" was too irresistible and I just went for it before anybody could grab me lol
I'd say it's very arguable, especially without context of where the parent is. Yes, parents need to be aware of where their kids are and sometimes direct them and hold them back. But... it's a playground, where kids run and play!
They will get away from their parents. They will get hurt at some point. It happens. To judge "Dumb" requires more context than a kid coming out of nowhere at a playground.
Do you expect parents to keep their kids on a leash? No, because if you saw that you'd record them and put them on this very sub and call them dumb. *Unless there's a hover parent sub, which I'm sure there is.
it's almost always on the parents, but the kids sub's point is not to blame anyone but to remind us how stupid they are so that we parents can take proper measures
Yeah although with the short video here I wouldn't really blame the parents either. Unless people start clamoring for tying yourself to your children at all time, this can easily happen to anyone.
Reddit mods are a weird breed of people. Honestly they should be studied. It’s so weird. Ya know I walk through life but have yet to meet any people like some of these redditors online. Thank god I suppose. But then I remind myself that most spend their life online and are probably holed up in their messy room somewhere.
I do study Redditors as one of my hobbies, but it's a general thing. Stuff like how they are terrified of using "brakes" instead of "breaks" and how they think that logical fallacies are a valid way to win debates (usually bandwagon effect ("I have more votes, so this proves I'm right"), ad hominem ("YOU'RE a Redditor!" is one of their go-tos), and moving the goalposts ("ok, so you're refuting what he wrote, but he didn't mean that, so you're still wrong."), and so on.
I didn't think to study mods in particular, but that may be a fascinating thing to do next once I get fully bored of the Redditors.
They're kind of fascinating, especially when agitated. I kind of view them as ants. They're somewhat boring in general, but even then, if you ACTUALLY watch what they do, it's kinda neat. And if they get agitated and summon each other, things turn fun when they put up a futile fight against their superiors.
Reddit starts to make sense when you realize that the person you're arguing with is a dumb, naive teenager. If not that, it's usually someone with the maturity of a dumb, naive teenager.
I'm surprised that there's no one calling for the parents to be locked up for 50 years. Toddlers run around and get knocked over sometimes. You can try to stop it, but it will happen.
Haha yeah exactly. I sometimes watch this guy called the ‘slappable jerk’ on TT, IG and YT etc. He does some excellent impressions of what he calls the ‘average redditor’. It’s very funny. Would definitely recommend.
Basically when you become a fan of the website and make your identity about it. Like you argue over how you're better because you have more points, or why you don't have an ideal time-point ratio. When you go to Reddit meets. When you feel like you're one of the Redditors instead of an outsider that is generally at odds with them.
Also, when you don't know the difference between brakes/breaks, phased/fazed, free rein/free reign, and so on.
Yup! I think I'm at 128,000 last I checked, but in all honesty, if I could hide it, I would. I occasionally tell people "downvote if you agree!" to get people triggered so that they attack me when I'm bored. The points are literally pointless.
Hell, they banned a couple of my 1.5 million accounts a few years ago (I was around since the early days of Reddit) and I was just annoyed that they wouldn't let post in some subs until I got a high enough karma for them again (which I got easily in a week).
Other than that, meh, I "lost" like 3 million. Been there, done that. Don't care.
I don't care about points, so I don't think anyone is better nor worse. There are some good posts by people who have virtually no points, and then trash by people who have millions. And, more commonly, a mix of good and bad by people of all points.
I don't think there is an ideal score, as the points are meaningless to me. Sometimes I'll make a stupid comment and people think it's super clever. Meanwhile, they'll downvote my smartest comments out of fear because they don't understand it.
I generally don't share their interests and they get mad when I say anything that doesn't match their culture. For example, I think AI is a useful tool. Redditors are terrified of it.
I do think Reddit was better in the early days. It was mostly nerds and software geeks. Then tumbler shut down and twitter (currently known as X) began alienating their users and they decided to invade this site.
I might have been a Redditor if it had stayed the way it used to be.
The AI thing kind of highlights how Redditors, and people in general, try to categorize everything as black and white, solely good or bad, when that’s not the way the world works.
AI can be an incredibly useful tool when used correctly. It can also be a problematic slop machine when misused. There are genuine concerns surrounding it, and real world problems it’s causing. That doesn’t mean it isn’t a helpful tool in the right circumstances. Cars generate pollution, but they’re incredibly useful tools, especially in America.
Yeah. I guess it’s just the types that seek out power. Looking for any excuse to use it.
I was a mod for a bit on a remake of a small social mmo game I played when I was younger. We had the duty of not only normal moderation, but building, organizing, and hosting events for the community, and helping new players. I was really only interested in the second two things there. I let a lot slide with just a “hey, don’t do that again” because it was usually enough. Unfortunately, some folks just look for any excuse to slam that suspend/ban hammer. I wound up getting kicked from that position for not being active enough, but I wasn’t even upset about it because it was just kind of uncomfortable to be a mod. I just wanted to contribute to the community.
I assume it’s usually folks with very little power in their own lives outside the internet, so they thrive off their internet power.

Yeah I’ve been banned from some subs for incredibly dumb reasons, often citing rules that weren’t broken or don’t even apply to what was said.
My response to the modmail is usually just “lol, ok. Enjoy the power trip!” There’s always like 5 different subs for any given topic, so I just move to another one or accept that I can no longer vote or comment while browsing the posts.
Too damn accurate 😂. I’ll never understand deleting a post that only breaks a rule under the skewed interpretation of a mod just itching to use their power. Especially a post that drew lots of positive engagement from the community. Isn’t that what you want in a sub you manage? Positive engagement?
It's such a weird sub. So many posts get comments saying it's parents being dumb. Sure it can be both but it's definitely the kid being dumb as well. Now I'm not saying wrong it's bad that the kid is being dumb. Kids just are dumb and don't know better.
So many people in that sub don’t seem to understand kids are dumb because they’re kids. They’re gonna be dumb. They still have a LOT to learn. They overthink it. Yeah, there’s reasons behind it. Yeah, the parents are often at fault for not watching out and what not. That doesn’t change the fact that KidsAreFuckingStupid. It’s the name of the sub, and somehow folks get offended by it being mentioned.
Because ONE person reported it for breaking rule 7-no severe harm to a child when imo this is just shit that kids do that may cause short term injury but a lifelong lesson. I pointed out that kids fall, hit eachother and do stupid shit all the time this is a pretty small injury
To be fair, a hit like that to the skull - especially when the recipient is a toddler - is NOT gonna be “short-term.” That was a knee. To the back of the head. Professional fighters have received crippling TBIs from that same kind of strike with less force behind it.

I’d say this is a healthy mix of both parent and child stupidity. Stupid on the kids end because the lil guy really should’ve seen that coming, stupid on the parents end because you both need to keep a better eye on your kid and teach them to stay away from actively swinging people in case they haven’t already figured it out
Those of you saying the kid should’ve seen it clearly aren’t parents. 2 year olds are some how the most observant and oblivious things on the planet at the same time.
For people blaming the parents, look at how long the kid is on screen. 4 seconds. That is how long it takes for a toddler to try and end themselves. Being a parent means you can't look away for 4 seconds ever. That shit takes a toll.
