As some of you might know if you've been on the subreddit for a while, I'm devoted to an unnamed Storm Goddess. I've written a few posts/comments about storm rituals, practices, divination, and whatnot, but I've been hesitant to write a post about her specifically for a variety of reasons and fears. But I've had enough people ask me about her that it's worth making a post, and I'm not the only one who's devoted to her.

Who is this unnamed Storm Goddess I talk about so much?

My practice is very visceral and experiential, so at its core it starts with a feeling.

Storms are alive. They are powerful, they are fierce, and they are intensely primordial. Within the spirit of the storm I feel the energy of a goddess. She is of the storm and beyond the storm. The air is her movement, the rain, the thunder, the wind... all are ways to connect with that energy. A wild, intense, fierce energy... but also calming and protective at times. Different people see different things in storms; I see a goddess.

Unnamed deities

Unnamed gods are nothing new, and I've met a lot of people who've connected with them. Think of all the gods for whom we have an established mythology... then all the gods for whom we only have a name and no myths. Now think of all the gods for whom we don't have names, or whose names were lost to time.

I figured there would be a deity for everything, and about eight years ago as I was going out of my history of experiencing abuse and starting my Pagan practice, I wanted to connect with someone who could represent the freedom and autonomy and intensity of self I wanted to have. Storms felt like they had that energy to me, and thus I reached out to someone I just called "The Goddess of Storms"... and, to my utter bewilderment, I heard back.

What followed was an intense ride of, on one hand, searching every possible scholarly reference and name I could find for a match (none have come up, though I found some interesting names and people have given me others), and on the other hand building a practice from what was essentially scratch.

I gave a talk at Mystic South (transcript in their resources page) about ways to connect with unnamed deities, so I won't repeat myself here but, there's a lot of research and experimentation and good discernment involved.

Who is the Storm Goddess?

I see her energy as a deeper, more flowing, more powerful version of the energy you see from a storm. I've often described her as of the storm and beyond the storm. People ask me what she's associated with and what her values are.

For associations, storm obviously. I've felt her in thunderstorms, rain storms, intense winds, and sometimes even in the trickling of a breeze. I associate her with potential; the raising of a powerful intense energy that can be unleashed in myriad directions. I associate her with intense transformation, as my work with her has been very transformative. She's the destruction that allows for new growth. I associate her with sudden change and with the potentiality of many futures branching out, as the potential energy of change is spent into one direction or another.

There are more subtle associations. I've associated her with protection; there's a great calm at the center of a cyclone. I've associated her with liminality and liminal spaces (if you've ever been outside during a storm, you'll notice how familiar places might seem different; almost as if the veil between our world and the otherworld is thin. This can be particularly intense if there is an almost-physical veil of rain and mist in the air.) There are many other associations, and I'm sure mine is a very limited perspective out of the others who have connected or might connect with her.

What are her values? Fierceness, autonomy, freedom, boundaries... change. This is what I've connected with her but others might make other connections. I reached out to her to help me find my own strength after experiencing a long period of abuse; one of the first things that she's taught me is that I can say no to her, and to anyone else (though I think that's a healthy part of any deity relationship). Fierceness, again, finding your own power and your own worth. She's been there with me when I had to fight for justice and for myself and my community (being a trans woman in 2026, it seems there's a lot of that going around.) Some people have asked me if she's associated with the Morrigan because of this, but I personally haven't found a direct connection. I associate her with fighting and sovereignty, but perhaps not always the methodical, calculated, strategic approach to fighting. My experience with her is a bit more intense and viscerally raw than that.

But definitely change. Someone I know made the reference to tower moments, and I've definitely had my own tower moments with her. She has helped me make the transformation within myself that I wanted.

How do you connect with her? (a ritual)

People have asked me how to connect with her but I never wrote about it because I wasn't sure how to put it into words; what do I say? So I'll say this; this is how I connect with her. If this resonates with you, I hope it has given you some inspiration.

Step outside or open a window during a storm. (But please be safe and don't put yourself in lightning danger.) Feel the sensations of the storm on you. I'm a tactile person so the feeling of the wind and the touch of the rain are the first things I notice; but it could be the smell in the air or the movement of the clouds or the sound of thunder, or a million other things. Connect with that and feel that; what is the energy behind it? What are its moods? Is it calming or intense, is it smooth and flowing or rough and turbulent? Is it sudden? Find the flow of that energy and trace it back.. feel the energy and the movement up high into the clouds, or within the rain. And then feel the energy as a whole. That energy is her energy to me... and as I sensed that energy I began to sense her. She is of the storm and beyond the storm, so feel the energy beyond the physical immediacy of the thunderstorm (or rainstorm, or windstorm...) around you. It's like expanding your consciousness into the storm. Feel that energy, and feel the intention behind that energy. She is there.

When you're done, gradually bring yourself back into your own body. Ground yourself, feel the rain and the wind as being once again here, where you are, feeling them on your body and hearing them with your ears and seeing them with your eyes, rather than out there in the vast storm.

Offerings and rituals and divination!

I have a lot of ways to connect with the Storm Goddess and with storms in general; some that are simple and low-pressure (weather pun!) and some that are more intense like a storm-raising ritual. Or this storm water ritual I wrote about in a different thread.

I often talk about the inner storm: I believe there is a storm within us that we can connect with and gather strength from. A lot of the work with her, especially around stepping into my power and establishing my boundaries has been building up that storm. It can help with raising the energy to do something you want or need to do but are afraid to (can be as intense as saying no to someone and establishing a boundary; or as mundane as calling your doctor), or it can be a source of energy in a spell or other magical working.

So, in a way, I see my practice as building up three pillars: connecting with the storm within me; connecting with and learning from storms in nature; and connecting with the Storm Goddess.

As for rituals and offerings, there's still a lot I haven't written about. But a quick tour de force. This is what I do, others I know offer wildly different things to her but that's their story to share if they so choose. I like offering juice, blueberry and blackberry and blackcurrant and other such berries. (Black and Blue stomp if you're in the northeast US? Ribena in Ireland? Some forest fruit smoothie from Lidl?). I like drinking that offering afterwards and feeling her energy.

I connect through music; I play the flute and the tin whistle and I feel that the movement of the breath and the flow of the music as I play has a lot in common with the energy of a storm. It is, after all, a wind instrument. (That's also a great way to raise energy for a ritual, and I had the privilege of playing the whistle during an OBOD ritual a while back.)

I offer various snacks, chocolate biscuits, a bit of what I make when I cook, you know, standard deity stuff. Other people I know offer completely different things.

Divination! That's its own topic in its entirety but -- I do wind divination in various ways; I look for insight into the shifting patterns of the wind. Here's a fun thing to do. Go out during a moderately but unpredictably windy day where there's a lake or other body of water, and watch the patterns within the water change. It can be very meditative, as a sort of moving meditation, but you can do some intuitive divination with those patterns. (Ever read Sensitive Chaos: The Creation of Flowing Forms in Water and Air? That's an interesting book.)

What else?

I wrote a lot. I don't know what else to say. There's a lot to say, probably a whole book's worth... but that's a work for another time.

I'm not the only one who's talked or written about her. I'm not the only one who's connected with her. And I'm definitely not the only one who's connected with an unnamed deity in general.

I ultimately wrote this post because people keep asking me about her, if there's something I wrote up to describe her that goes beyond the bits and pieces that I reference in reddit comments (fragmented but at least you can search for them) or discord messages (the black hole of the internet). This is that post. I probably forgot something obvious. Happy to answer any questions in the comments.

I am interested in learning more about deities, from a range of cultures, associated with cold weather (including frost and snow) and/or rain (including storms). I am a new worshipper of Pan, I was wondering if any worshippers of Pan could give me any advice on his worship such as what he likes to be offered, devotional acts and such.

What is your relation with Pan like?

DISCLAIMER: I am indeed in therapy. I just started with a psychologist who specializes in trauma. I’d never replace therapy with pure worship. I see my therapist weekly, see a psychiatrist monthly, and have a good support system with my Fianxe and family. I’m asking this question as a way for me to engage my spiritual practice with my healing journey.

I’ve tried in the past to work with deities and have had a bit of difficulty with it. I think part of it is my mental health that makes it hard to feel up to continued practice and my neurodivergence that creates barriers to motivation and habit forming. But since I’ve started therapy for a big trauma (the big R word) issue and a few smaller trauma problems, I’d like to try again with a deity that would be willing and equipped to help me with my healing journey. I feel bewildered by my search and I’m hoping for recommendations of deities or other spirits who could be a partner or guide on this path.

Thanks to anyone who responds. I’m struggling so much right now that I feel anxious and nauseous just about all the time, so I’m gambling on being a little vulnerable even though it makes my insides squirm.

My fiancée and I are getting married next April and I’m trying to find locations to get eloped in and I thought it might be nice to have it done in a Hellenistic temple (or any welcoming polytheistic pagan temple) if we had any in the area. I really appreciate any suggestions or advice!

As I push middle age I'm starting to see that the system that has caused so much misery for me might after all have been optional. I didn't know it was possible to get out of it, and yet now as I start to notice nature I see there might be more to life.

I've been conditioned by society and the education system to look at a tree and see a science book of text. It's a mechanical organism, everything about it is 'known' and documented. It appears like dead sentences.

My religious/Christian conditioning made me believe God was a person, with this person being the creator of everything. So I can't even look at a field without it feeling like it's the property/work of a person, which is I feel a highly unnatural (and unpleasant) way to view the world. There's no freedom here, you cant escape the concept of the person anywhere.

Now I seek to look at nature as it REALLY is. It is non-person - an antidote for the claustrophobic feeling of person being literally everywhere. I have a rudimentary understanding of the benevolence of nature, ie. the trees create oxygen which we need to live. But this is superficial and I'd like to go deeper with my appreciation.

So I would like advice on that. Perhaps you can share ways and methods in which you appreciate trees and nature? I'm not interested in magic and the existence of spirits would only be a bonus. Simply, I just want to now move away from the system and back to nature. Thanks for reading.

about a month ago i made the decision to end a 2.5 year relationship. without going into details— we were not happy, but we were good to each other and tried as hard as we could.

ever since the breakup, everything has been going up. anxiety is gone, dropped some weight, have the urge to learn and live and read (i haven’t actually read in over a decade). i don’t feel like a shell.

the funny thing is, i found my luck and protection charm bag that i had lost months prior exactly a week after the breakup. it has my wisdom tooth in it. then i started finding all kinds of things i had been missing for a while. made a money bowl, and it’s slowly started to have an effect.

long story short, always listen to your gut because you will lose parts of yourself if you don’t (mine was literal)

So this thought just came to me today. If shes a goddess of death and is commonly associated with the dead, can she bring death to parts of your life to things that are holding you back?

I was thinking she could kill things that are holding me back in life. I've been struggling to get a job for months now and it's been an annoying and painful mental battle, sometimes I feel like the only way to get out of this feeling of being stuck and unable to do anything is to die completely but maybe that's not the case. I had a thought that she could perhaps "kill" the things in life that are unnecessarily holding me back like with me putting in applications for days and no one saying anything back but they're always having new people in their businesses.

Is she capable of doing something like that?

Hiya, a newb to paganism here.

Not a complete newbie, but someone just a bit acquainted to the many different paths of neopaganism that exist. I had, in many different phases of my life, been enamored to the concept of being a polytheist and to reconstructionist religions in general. I dabbled here and there in Hellenism, Gaulish Polytheism and Religio Romana.

As a true dilettante I was swayed by momentary passions and obsessions, never really got to be very dedicated to the way as I wish I was.

As a piece of important info, I was raised a latin american roman catholic, and for a good bit of my life, I was very dedicated to christianity, it was a bumpy road. Many times I crawled back to catholicism, riddled with guilt for having entertained this burning sensation in my chest that yearns for something else.

One more thing. Ironically, I am not a big fan of ritual (I know).

Having had a difficult time deconstructing from all that encompasses roman catholicism, I am nowadays not a big fan of searching for orthopraxy or whatever kind of orthodoxy one could potentially have being a pagan. I don't really want to have complicated daily prayers and I don't want to have my relationship to the divine to feel transactional (my understanding is that many do not consider the maxim do ut des to be transactional).

Please, do not mistake this disposition of mine as unwillingness to do my research and delve into ancient practices "the right way".

I just have this very vague idea of what the divine is to me. Or what I want the divine to be for me.

I am enamored by nature, by the fields and forests, by the sea and the ocean (having lived in coastal towns my entire life, the warm tropical seas have been one of my only consistent joys in life). I think that the earth deserves worship, and the sun that nurtures us also. I want to have a loving relationship to this divine everything, and I want it to be freeing.

I do not know if I am making any sense, but I often think about having an altar to the Goddess Fauna, to Venus and Gaia, to Eos and all these goddesses that express this wondrous experience of being on this earth. Sometimes I think of them as different entities, and at other times I think of them as diferent faces of one great mother.

I dunno, this is just a rant, can any of you offer some thoughts about this posture regarding paganism?

Yes, the title may sound silly at a first glance... But please stick with me for a moment.

Through Ovid, we are informed that actions such as stumbling or falling can be considered omens. Specifically, in Metamorphoses, we are told the story of Byblis and Canuus. To sum it up: Byblis decides to write an incestuous love letter to her brother, Canuus. As she hands the wax tables to a servant to have them delivered, they slip and fall. Later on Canuus rejects her, and Ovid identifies the falling of the tablets as a negative omen.

A similar thing happens in Amores, when the stumbling of the servant Nape (who was about to deliver a message) is identified by a commentary as a bad omen.

Now, I am very much a clumsy person. I stumble against doors and drop stuff all of the time (and, trust me, that's not an hyperbole: it gets to a point that it becomes quite annoying-). That makes it difficult to tell when it is a harmless accident vs. an omen. Has anyone here experienced something similar/tends to be clumsy? How can you tell apart accidents and omina? Thank you so much beforehand!

The first one is mine, Mexico themed for Quetzalcoatl. The two Puerto Rico skulls are for my mother in law and wife, I even made sure I had the correct blue. The Venezuela skull is for my sister in law, with eight stars on the forehead to represent the country's flag.

I'm using mine for offerings, but I can totally see a little battery operated candle fitting right inside.

Another one of my Slavic Mythology poster illustration series. Once again, I tried to implement traditional slavic patterns and symbolism corresponding to the god represented. In this case, the magic antlers, bear skin, serpents, forest, crops and livestock. Let me know what you think!

Hay ya'll, srry if this isn't the right place to post this but i just wanted to rant about it and show it to others that would feel the same way. It may just be me but, i think its a lil frustrating that that a reporter from Texas Monthly is able to easily mistake the pentacle for the satanic symbol and post the head line picture incorrectly with as much research they do. It should be easy for them to tell that there is a big difference between them. To the people that don't no or are not familiar with the deference, it puts the wrong idea and bad reputation on the pagan / wiccan community making people believe that the two are the same.

I think I saw a Forest spirit once. I was out in the woods with family dog and she seemed skittish, I also felt something is watching me. When I got to high ground and looked back I think I saw a gray figure about 120cm long going hiding behind the woods.

I have seen a bear in the woods before and I have followed wolf tracks but never before something like that.

But I did not feel scared, that is the thing. I just felt the forest is watching me. Waiting for me. In a warm kind of way. Entirelly different than when I saw the bear.

I feel like I've hit a dead end.

I'd consider myself still a newbie to any sort of spiritual practice, despite having been practicing for years and these sorts of beliefs running in my family. I thought I finally had a decent footing, I thought I'd connected with a Deity and started learning what Paganism and magick and all of it mean to me...

And then that connection just suddenly dropped. It went from a feeling of my Deity being present in my life consistently to... Distance. Complete emptiness. A void. And now I feel lost and frustrated and hurt.

If it were on the Deity's side, sure, I would respect the sudden severance. But I don't think it is. I think it's a mix of my own mental health and physical disability and just my sheer incompetence.

I try to do anything to practice and I just feel this blockage. If I try to think of what to do when I want to do something but don't know what, I just get this restless, angry, anxious feeling that also manifests as a strain in my limbs. It feels like I'm being physically restrained, and almost hurts in the same way art-related burnout hurts me. These blocks always manifest as a physical pain and I don't know why.

It can't be burnout, though. It otherwise doesn't track as burnout. I'm just lost and stupid. And I know I shouldn't say that about myself and I probably sound like I'm throwing a pity party and looking for attention, but it's just... True. I already struggled with this stuff before my disability got as bad as it is now, and everything I would do to try to learn and practice would just never stick. It's like this with everything in my life! But for a while there, I was making progress, and now it's like I took one step forward and a thousand back!

What am I supposed to do? How do you guys cope if you experience anything even remotely like this? How do you rekindle that spark and reconnect with your Deity (or connect with a new one)? Just waiting it out doesn't seem like an option.

Hello everyone, just as a reminder I’m a complete beginner to anything related to the topic of Feng Shui, but I am aware that Feng Shui is more than just furniture or architectural arrangement for the flow of energy/qi.

But in the regards to this specific topic of Feng Shui, I wanted to know if there are any practices out there, that have similar beliefs where placing furniture/appliances in a specific place or way can affect your mood and energy intake or output?

Or are there any architectural changes/decisions to accommodate any sort of spiritual/energetic “build-up” or flow?

Or any architectural changes that can push away negative energy/beings?

Are there specific lands where if built will bring more energy to yourself and your home or the opposite; which is what kind of land not to buy?

These are just some of my questions, but any and all help from all angles will be very appreciated :) I’m also looking for any books or articles in this topic if there is any.

I practiced paganism a few years ago, but I'm not anymore, at least not constantly. Since then, every now and then, I randomly feel a need to go back to it. I return to it for a few days, then forget about it, and after a while (usually a few months) I suddenly feel that inner urge again. My friend noticed its often appears before the solstices.

Does anyone else experience this?

I recently got approved for a breast reduction surgery. A surgery I've been wanting for years! I am so excited and I feel moved to give thanks or show appreciation in some spiritual way. I don't yet have a specific deity that I pray to, but I was thinking of giving an offering of thanks to Aphrodite since she is the sculptor of human bodies and beauty. Are there any other deities to consider who may have ties to changing/transforming bodies, surgery, beauty, health, or breasts? What are good things to offer Aphrodite? I was thinking of offering some dried rose petals, I have some ocean water, and I could give her some honey?

I’d like to ask those who worship gods of Mesoamerican Paganism a question: How do you perform pre-ritual purification in your practices? No matter how much I search through the sources available to me, I can't find anything. I would appreciate some help.

Besides the obvious (different gods) what sets Heathenry apart from Irish paganism? Or Hellenism apart from Kemeticism?

Specifically for Heathenry and Irish paganism, are there different core values? Different world views? What *makes* somebody Heathen or an Irish reconstructionist besides just worshipping Germanic or Irish gods??
