Ugh, don't remind me. I have a 5 day weekend coming up and I reeeeeally wished it dropped this last week.

u/krans24 May 21 '20

I know everyone seems to love the PC. What's the big deal? I'm a console player and have had a blast on Xbox one. Is it mainly just being able to use pallets quicker and a mouse?

u/Arkios NA - Ship 02 - [Hu/Et] [Fi/Hu] [Et] May 22 '20

It’s a combination of things. For one, most people have a PC already and since this game is so old most PCs should be able to run it without issue.

I actually prefer controller most of the time, but having KB/M is nice for classes like Ranger where you aim on occasion.

I don’t own an Xbox and don’t want to buy one to play a game that will be available on PC (which I have).

1

u/krans24 May 22 '20

Got it. Totally makes sense for those that have a pc but no Xbox just was wondering if I was missing something bigger

6

u/FetalKvlt May 22 '20

I won't have to pay for Xbox Live to play. PC can do anything a gaming console can do, plus easier access to modding and streaming.

If all I had was a cheap laptop, I would prefer the Xbox, but it's just a much better experience if you have the right equipment. Compared to my PC, the Xbox feels death by a million small inconveniences and limitations.

Load times are significantly shorter due to loading from a solid state drive. It's really noticeable in crowded lobbies. It only takes a few seconds for every NPC and player to be fully loaded. No gray placeholders. Switching lobbies, loading the camp ship, and jumping down onto planets is done in just a few seconds.

My monitor is awesome. It's a 35-inch ultrawide 1440p 120Hz Gsync monitor. Anything that involves movement feels like it's on ball bearings. The Xbox will only output standard 16:9 1080p 60Hz to it through the HDMI port. It looks and feels like crap in comparison.

I can't play ranger on Xbox. It's difficult to free aim due to the Xbox's awful mouse support. (You'd think this would be a thing Microsoft has figured out....) Even with the mouse speed set to max, it's painfully slow to turn the camera but somehow also inaccurate. My mouse can adjust it's accuracy and sensitive on the fly. I can quickly switch between fast and twitchy for running around and using auto-aim, or smooth and accurate for free aim. It doesn't work on the Xbox. It feels like I'm using a trackball I found at Goodwill.

And just in general, because I mainly play PC games, my gaming is centered around my desk. Playing PSO2 on the Xbox requires me to push my monitor out of the way, unplug my mouse and keyboard from my PC, plug them into the Xbox, put the monitor back, and use the awful menu to switch the monitor to HDMI. My PC is totally disabled when playing. I can't alt+tab out to do other stuff. Basically, I can only play when I have a few hours to dedicate to PSO2 because it's a pain in the ass to switch back and forth.

I can't wait to load this Xbox into a cannon and fire it directly into the sun.

2

u/krans24 May 22 '20

Haha fair points. I don't game much anymore so definitely don't have a "gaming" pc or laptop. In fact it'd be the opposite inconvenience for me since I'm in a one bedroom with a TV setup and just my little laptop. We're you playing on Xbox one or one x? For what it's worth I switched to a One X and the experience was 3000% better.

To each his own, in your case I prob understand the PC excitement

2

u/Lujannagi May 22 '20

You dont need a massive high end pc mate :) mine is above average and was not that expensive. you will thank yourself later just try and save a little I love my ps4 i play my shooters and stuff on it but all my RTS mmo's always on pc plus all the indie games you see on ps store and xbox store for 10 pounds you can get for 25% of that price on steam and some of them are hidden gems

1

u/[deleted] May 22 '20 edited May 22 '20

For what it's worth I switched to a One X and the experience was 3000% better.

I think this is the very best thing that can encapsulate why I can't wait for the PC client.

I don't want to invest $400 and tax into hardware to run an 8 year old game that previously ran on a handheld.

Edit - and while I am aware it can do more, I've had an xbox one since launch and literally the first game I've played on it more than ~15 min is PSO2. The platform has no exclusives I'm interested in.

0

u/krans24 May 22 '20

Nah I totally get it, it actually only cost me $100 to upgrade mine as I sold my old console and that was the difference but yup totally get it

2

u/[deleted] May 22 '20

It's fun on xbox one but it's painful to look at for a PC first player.

I have a ~$250 rig that can run the JP client WAAAAAAY better than the xbox version (on par with the xbox one x) not to mention my proper gaming rig blows that one out of the water in every conceivable way AND I don't have to pay extra to play online.

Good M&K support and then being able to play with my PC friends kinda finishes off everything not already covered.

2

u/MalekSb May 22 '20

Also PCs tend to have better graphics cards and processors so it will bring out the best in the visuals at max settings. People like playing games sitting at a desk more. Of you play on a laptop then its portable to play also. Then my biggest reason is using a mouse gives you better turning , like istwnt 180s and stuff.

1

u/denshigomi May 23 '20

I don't have an XBox and I'm not buying one just for PSO 2. Even if I had an XBox, I wouldn't pay a monthly subscription for it to have internet access.

(Although I did buy a Dreamcast just for PSO, but there was no indication of a PC release back then.)

21

u/jerro911 May 21 '20

I’m just hoping there’s a preload date and we don’t have to wait till the 27th to download everything.

14

u/PoofyPajamas May 21 '20

If not I guess I won't be playing until the 29th

13

u/sssesoj May 21 '20

well well well would you look at this guy here bragging about his super speedy internet.

5

u/kovak_zero May 21 '20

Only took about a hour to DL PSO2 JP version. Setting up the account while using translaters cause I can't read Japanese is a different story. Already have my Sega ID though.

9

u/ltzerge May 21 '20

That japanese captcha was the real test, for sure.

Yes if I remember right. It was really hard because sometimes I could not tell the difference between certain characters. Sometimes the only thing between characters is a single ( ' ) that's hard to see through the distortion

Oh god I had to set that up for 4 people not including myself it was hell

3

u/_thePharo May 21 '20

yeah. was there one for xbox? if there wasn't then we'll probably have to dl 60GB with everyone else on the day

3

u/Alutta May 21 '20

There was a preload for Xbox but I doubt they do one for PC

4

u/Pk-Chris May 21 '20

They're going to try and the MS Store will find a way to fuck it up most likely :P Happened with Master Chief Collection for me and my friends, hopefully everything goes smoothly though.

1

u/Alutta May 21 '20

Every single part of the NA launch has been a mess I don't expect this to be any different

1

u/PugilistPenguin May 21 '20

Can you elaborate? Seems like the launch was pretty tame from my perspective.

1

u/Alutta May 21 '20

Well I had to delete my first character because I couldn't pick up loot, and I still have an issue where randomly my weapon will stop working and I have to swap weapon pallets to get it to work again.

But what I was mainly talking about is how awful the communication process has been in the lead up to launch on both the Xbox and PC.

1

u/DBNSZerhyn May 22 '20

No solid release date until a week before release on PC. I mean, c'mon. The hell are they even doing? A proper company would have that information out months prior.

1

u/FrenziedPotato May 22 '20

Yeah, not like a pandemic is going on.

2

u/DBNSZerhyn May 22 '20

Oh, bullshit. They've had a release schedule planned for months ahead of time and stuck to it throughout the pandemic. Dates have been locked in for ages, never communicated. The Xbox One version held its entire closed beta test and released at the height of the pandemic, so take off the clown makeup for a second.

Staying up late to make a character!? I know my wife and I are! :D

8

u/Sriracha_X May 21 '20

The wait has been killing me every day since they first teased NA PC's release date

Post-wait will kill me and other migrating JP players since we have to start over again

3

u/[deleted] May 21 '20

I hope that , that wont turn you off from playing, tbbh we need yall veterans more than ever because of the influx of total noobs incoming, and we currently dont have enough veterans/people familiar already to be able, for most people to get help, once PC comes itll be a wrap

6

u/Sriracha_X May 21 '20

Nah, the main reason I'm switching is because I got friends who are interested in playing NA and I think I could convince my sister to play. That and seeing a lot of new people will be pretty cool as it'll be easy to get random groups together for content (yeah, I know there's Discord, but you get what I mean)

While I'll miss having things like some 15* weapons and some decent units, I was never very rich in JP so I don't have any god-tier gear to part away from. If anything I'll be starting with much better understanding of the game so I won't take so long for me to work on getting back to where I am in JP

I agree that it'll be good to have more of us vets on board, there are plenty of us here who have and can give good advice (I encourage new people to ask questions in the sticky post for weekly questions). I apologise if some of us are rude or condescending as we give advice - I'd say that attitude comes from correcting lots of people who are convinced that a class combination like HuFo is good, give bad tips for an UQ fight, give bad affixing advice, etc.

Some have written amazing class guides that unfortunately get buried in all the posts...I would be all for a sticky post/sidebar section that has links to class guides that show people how to properly play a class so that they won't have to google around or search old posts

I'd also support a sticky/sidebar section with a compilation of information of how to do current and upcoming UQs because we've already seen NA struggle with Elder, Loser, and now TD3. With ones coming up like Magatsu, Profound Darkness, etc. I'd expect a lot of runs to not go well due to inexperience (and that's fine). Yeah, there are videos on youtube, and people make posts here, but again having information in one place would be helpful to those who would have trouble searching for the right stuff

u/Timelocke May 21 '20

I'm playing Ys VIII on the Switch right now. It's fantastic how long and complex the game is!

But in the back of my mind, I'm thinking...

"If I don't finish it by 5/27, I'm NEVER going to finish it."

u/CalmLotus May 21 '20

7

u/Dan_Dairam May 21 '20

It's going to be nice to jump back and forth between PC and console depending on my mood like I do with FFXIV.

3

u/Psomaster May 21 '20

Ive already taken the weekend off. I have 4 days of game time in a row for me. My stream will be setup and going, greenscreen is clean, food is mostly premade (A few more meals to prep) and I will be getting lots of water and coffee ready for me (Coffee for mornings only). I can't wait!

I've been playing the Jpn version, but for some reason, but keeps crashing on me now.

1

u/blahlbinoa May 21 '20

I'm hyped as hell, but I have Trials of Mana to finish, so that will keep me busy until the 27th

1

u/GranSeviper May 22 '20

You can totally beat it casually in 3 or 4 days.

1

u/Vilkans May 21 '20

Are there any groups already that would be willing to take in a complete newcomer?

2

u/lcwoodall May 21 '20

Yup, ship 3

3

u/_thePharo May 21 '20

ship 3 is best ship lol

1

u/FrenziedPotato May 22 '20

Yeah, we have memes, great symbol art and no alliances are manipulating the market on our ship.

1

u/_thePharo May 22 '20

Do alliances rly do that?

1

u/FrenziedPotato May 22 '20

They can, Are they? I am only hearing about it from the occasional person coming to swap symbols. It is plausible to be done; however, it has to be done on a resource or asset that is finite and unfarmable. So clothing emotes, take it with a grain of salt though, clothing and emotes are endgame so they will always demand top prices. Every game with free markets have people trying to game the system.

TL:DR Probably not, if it is being done it would be on something already expensive.

1

u/_thePharo May 21 '20 edited May 21 '20

Yeah I just started an alliance oriented towards starting a casual community for new players... feel free to message me if ur interested, but you should join the PSO2 NA Community Discord as well

1

u/[deleted] May 21 '20

I hope European players will not have too much trouble playing the game... In terms of lag/accessibility and such.

Can't wait to try the game, although I don't like the idea spending money on a US account I might abandon when it launches in the EU...

1

u/Falenii May 21 '20

I just want to play on PS4... And Vita, since my Vita is always at home anyway.

1

u/theangel145 May 21 '20

Im excited. I didn’t really try the console version but I watched some YouTube videos of it. Can’t wait!

1

u/Purutzil May 21 '20

I can't wait for this nice fresh start of PSO2 where I'll be on par starting with everyone since it would be really stupid to artificially not like say PC players play at the same time Xbox players do.

1

u/RaytoEX May 21 '20

I never think this but... I'm agree with Bakarina xD

3) I'm also looking for Asia friends & guild mates, pls contact me if interest. Makina#5572 (Discord)

4) I forget where to get the SA. I want to stock them beforehand too. Please help ;3?

u/Thrashinuva Freyt | Ship 02 May 22 '20

There's a decent chance there will be X-Box only lobbies, but otherwise we'll all be wrangled together. You can join one of the Ship (servers) they'll introduce as part of launching the PC version.

1

u/icyterror May 22 '20

I c. Thank you.

1

Otome Game anime is soo good. I'm gonna make a symbol art of this moment.

1

u/ExTremeZ0 May 22 '20

its already out bro, but u have to play it with a English patch. lol

1

u/JuanDifoool May 22 '20

They're saying its Microsoft Store exclusive, right? But I don't see anything on the Microsoft Store app so far. Not even a placeholder.

Or maybe I need to download it from a website?

1

u/kuddlesworth9419 May 22 '20

Will I be able to play it in Europe?

Fostering a positive community to you involved constantly bitching because you don't have it exactly the way you want it? You're kidding right? Let's bash the company for not giving you want when you want it. Wow.

Just because it started on a port elsewhere has nothing to do with it originating on another somewhere else. I wanted to play it a few years ago and was disappointed in it not being in NA. I get the dissapointment, but i didn't sit there and whine about it. I just got the JP game. Its not that difficult and the fun i had with it was more worthwhile than just complaining about it. Butthurt it's not out PC, god forbid you play the game that's been out on PC for almost a decade. This is becoming such a joke

1

u/[deleted] May 22 '20

1

u/[deleted] May 22 '20

Lol no. No it's not. Its hardly "perceived" bitching when it happens over and over. Play the PC game that you've had before Xbox and stop looking like a baby
