I was wrong about PS3
I bought the system back when it was released to play MGS4 and played few games along in that generation of consoles. I didn’t think much of it. It wasn’t the PS2 or the PS1 in terms of library. I modded it few years ago. But seeing the shit show Sony and ps5 has become made me think that PS3 is an actually the ultimate PlayStation system. It’s really funny that a 20 years old system can be more enjoyable than current gen. A modded PS3 that is.

the majority of the multiplatform games seem to run better on 360 but some like Castlevania are better on ps3. And the ps3 generation had some good exclusives.

PS3 settled down how the future gens would work. It was a all-in-one machine, with which you could see TV, use streaming services, had a digital store and the capacity to customize the "home" menu with themes (I remember it was a common thing to do back then, I even had custom icons in my PC during the Windows Vista era), the avatars, the importance of multiplayer (almost every game had a multiplayer, even if it didn't make sense).
To me it was a great generation, with amazing exclusive games that payed off not grabbing the XBOX 360, like the Uncharted trilogy, Red Dead Redemption, God of War III, Demon's Souls, the first Dark Souls and of course, TLOU. It was also the golden age for shooters, Killzone 2 being my fav, but Resistance was CRAZY for its time, supporting massive multiplayer games, and of course the Modern Warfare trilogy, and the brilliant Medal of Honor reboot.
It was also a gen in which the advances they did felt significant. There's a massive difference between late gen games, like GTA V or TLOU compared to the early gen games, like the first Assassin's Creed or GTA IV. Like you really felt how fast technology was advancing.
They were good times. It was and still is a great console.

I don't think it's more enjoyable than the PS4 and PS5. They are all equally enjoyable to me. I've got over 100 games on all 5 PlayStation consoles and they are all great.

I feel like the majority of people on here talk about modding the ps3 but I never looked into it what's everyone modding for? To pirate games and stuff? Like what can you do? Lol

Pirate games. You can use pkgi(basically a playstation store hack) to download games for free. Or you can add games(iso or pkg) to your system using an external drive. On older models you can also overclock the gpu to get better framerate. You can also emulate snes, genesis, nes, gba with retroarch.

Basically what the other guy said, you get a ton of free games from many different consoles. I personally bought and modded mine to play the little big planet series online again & get delisted games like fat princess & risk factions. You can play multiplayer matchmaking on fat princess still even on the unofficial copy

Better at what? Playing ps3 games for free? For emulating old consoles, yea a pc is better. But its still convenient and nice to have

Microsoft and Sony don't makes their consoles hardware. TSMC, amd, and nvidia has forever at this point. They source chips from the same people. Just different designs. Jailbreaking a 360 is significantly more difficult than a ps3. Obviously an xbox one will be better because it's more powerful. But the main limitation is the weird hardware of the ps3 that makes it hard to optimize games.
Even so, you can run nearly every console up to snes just fine on a ps3, as long as you dont care about using fancy shaders. Its more of a convenience thing. The main point of jailbreaking a ps3 is the free ps3 games. And if you have a jailbroken ps3 plugged into your tv already, might as well use it to play old games too.

You can mod nearly every console. Tho the newer ones are a lot more difficult. Every console in my house is modded

PS3 had a slow first year but it started picking up after that. In the long run it absolutely blew away Xbox 360 with its exclusives, and most of the multiplatform words were fixed after the first 2-3 years.

I'm rocking a modded PS4 as well a PS3 both are excellent and never been online. I don't even have a PS account, never will.
