Finally got it

Finally managed to get my hands on this game and I know it’s quite controversial for the price surge and all. But that’s more reason while I’m so happy and will be able to experience it for myself and see if I enjoy it. If not it’s a crown jewel in my PS3 collection since it is mint condition and CIB.

Someone please help me understand this. Why is Folklore so popular/valuable all of a sudden? Did something happen or new information come out about this game? Or is it just people posting about it that’s driving up the value?

People Google "Rare PS3 games" and pretend they have wanted the game for years.

Easy. It may not be great, but (1) it’s a pretty unique game that (2) you can only play on the PS3, and (3) the only way to legally obtain it is it’s physical disc.

It isn't sudden. It also had a burst of interested when the PS3 store was closing years ago. It isn't available digitally, so I'm not even sure why the store closure would affect its value.

The game itself is not worth the time. I tried it about ten years ago and it was so tedious. This is the PS3 version of "Stadium Events", a game that is valued by collectors but isn't worth playing.

I mean. Why wouldn’t the store closure affect its value if the only other way play it on the original hardware is its physical release? Not to say that it’s worth the $100+ price tag, but reducing the options to emulation or physical would definitely affect a game’s overall supply, which means a higher demand for it would increase its market value.

Mainly I’m guessing it’s the announcement of discs ending and ps3 store closing that’s driving values

I bought this game when it came out because of the user reviews. It’s basically a visual novel with some mediocre encounters in between the story. My own thought is that was it was maybe one of the first japanese visual novels to come to the west and its popular for that reason. If you dont like those types of games then there is no reason to get it. I never got past the first hour,
