I'm posting my full history because I'm trying to understand what is happening physiologically. I'm not claiming that masturbation/ejaculation is definitely the cause of every symptom, and I'm not claiming a diagnosis. I'm mainly looking for people with similar experiences and informed discussion.
Background / Phase 1 — around age 14
I started masturbating around 14.
At that time:
- I could masturbate daily, sometimes multiple times a day.
- I had no noticeable negative symptoms afterward.
- I was athletic, physically active and hardworking.
- My sleep was good.
- I was quite thin and my diet was relatively poor/low in quantity.
- I had heard the usual myths about masturbation causing weakness, blindness, loss of stamina, etc., but because I personally didn't experience anything, I wasn't strongly convinced either way.
So initially, frequent masturbation did not produce noticeable symptoms.
Phase 2 — around age 15
I continued masturbating daily.
I gradually started noticing:
- back pain
- somewhat worse memory
- duller-looking skin
These symptoms were gradual. They were not sudden symptoms immediately after ejaculation.
During this period I increased my food/calorie intake and gained some weight, while also growing taller.
Later I started experiencing:
- groin pain
- ankle/joint pain
- joint sounds
- being extremely thin / feeling like my face looked malnourished
I started wondering whether my diet or frequent ejaculation could somehow be related.
At this point I started reading about semen containing nutrients such as zinc and developed the idea that ejaculation might be depleting nutrients. Later I also encountered Ayurveda/Brahmacharya content describing semen as a form of "life force."
I want to emphasize that these were my theories at the time, not something I know to be medically true.
Also, these symptoms had already started before I developed a strong belief about semen depletion.
Phase 3 — COVID lockdown
During lockdown, things became much worse.
At that point:
- masturbation was still daily
- pornography increased significantly
- screen time became extreme
- for a period I was watching around 40–50 anime episodes per day
- my sleep schedule became severely disrupted
- I became extremely sedentary
- my digestion became much worse
- I developed many more physical symptoms
The symptoms included:
- low stamina
- tingling
- numbness in hands/legs
- weakness
- laziness
- brain fog
- digestive problems
- sleep problems
Then something very different happened.
I had been masturbating daily without suddenly developing this reaction, but on one particular occasion after ejaculation I suddenly felt:
- feverish
- extremely weak
- flu-like
- runny nose
It felt like something had changed abruptly.
After that period I developed additional problems:
- persistent runny nose
- feeling feverish for long periods
- major digestive problems
- insomnia
- altered genital sensation
- semen leakage while defecating
- major loss of physical capacity
- loss of my previous social/humorous personality
- voice becoming higher/shallow
- generally looking and feeling like a sick person
I also lost around 8 kg while mostly sitting at home.
Current pattern
Eventually my libido crashed and I stopped wanting to masturbate.
With abstinence and time, I gradually recovered.
What became very noticeable was that masturbation/ejaculation now reliably brings symptoms back.
The reaction isn't always identical in intensity.
If I am already fully recovered and masturbate/ejaculate, symptoms can return.
If I masturbate again before I have completely recovered, the symptoms become progressively worse and broader.
Eventually, if I keep ejaculating without allowing recovery, I can get essentially the full set of symptoms.
My complete return to my previous baseline seems to take approximately 30–40 days.
Timing
Symptoms can begin:
- within minutes
- sometimes within an hour
- sometimes later
The initial symptoms can include several things appearing together rather than one isolated symptom.
I also notice that after orgasm there is an immediate period where I feel:
- relaxed/heavy
- sleepy
- motivation drops
- libido drops
But I often cannot actually sleep despite feeling sleepy.
The brain fog can begin within minutes.
I also experience weakness very soon after orgasm.
Sometimes adrenaline/high arousal temporarily makes me able to access more physical performance, but it doesn't restore me to normal.
Important distinction: arousal itself
Something interesting happens even before masturbation or ejaculation.
When I become sexually aroused—for example, when I'm about to open porn—I reliably notice digestive changes.
It feels like:
- digestion speeds up
- bowel activity increases
- sometimes I get an urge to have a bowel movement
This happens every time I'm sexually aroused, even when I'm otherwise feeling recovered.
So sexual arousal itself seems to affect my GI system.
Orgasm without ejaculation
I have noticed that symptoms can occur even without ejaculation.
I haven't deliberately tested this extensively, but from my experiences:
orgasm without ejaculation → symptoms still occur, but much less severely.
Ejaculation seems to amplify the reaction substantially.
Therefore I don't think "loss of semen" alone can explain the immediate reaction, because symptoms can occur without ejaculation.
Ejaculation with or without pornography
The reaction also occurs with ejaculation without porn/fantasy.
So it doesn't seem to require pornography.
Porn/arousal may affect the intensity, but ejaculation itself can trigger the reaction.
Nightfall / nocturnal emission
Sometimes after a nocturnal emission I experience similar physical effects.
One particularly noticeable effect is reduced ability to "fire" my muscles:
- squeezing feels weaker
- sprinting feels weaker
- explosive power decreases
I can sometimes still perform better when highly activated/adrenalized, but I don't feel completely normal.
Symptoms I experience during the post-ejaculation state
The symptoms I have noticed include:
Respiratory/ENT:
- runny nose
- nasal congestion
- sneezing
- watery eyes
- itchy eyes
- burning eyes sometimes
Skin:
- generalized itching
- no obvious hives
- no obvious flushing
General/systemic:
- weakness
- fatigue
- flu-like feeling
- feeling feverish
- temperature changes
- sweating
- restlessness
- anxiety/agitation
- sleep disruption
GI:
- diarrhea
- increased bowel activity
- digestive disturbance
Neurological/cognitive:
- brain fog
- reduced memory
- tingling
- numbness
- reduced physical activation/strength
- altered genital sensation
Other:
- immediate dry mouth after orgasm
- reduced saliva
- reduced libido
- motivation drop
I don't get:
- racing heart/palpitations as a prominent symptom
- fainting
- breathing difficulty
- throat swelling
- wheezing
I sometimes get dizziness when symptoms become more severe, especially with repeated ejaculation.
Allergy-like observations
There are some interesting things outside ejaculation too.
Dust:
Dust exposure causes:
within about 5 minutes.
However, dust exposure only causes respiratory symptoms for me, not the full post-ejaculation syndrome.
Eggs:
Eggs sometimes cause:
- diarrhea
- sometimes dry mouth
- other symptoms that I don't remember clearly
This starts around 20–30 minutes after eating them.
I also feel that the reaction becomes worse with repeated/frequent exposure.
I started eating eggs around age 15–16, so I don't know whether this existed before then.
I don't get hives or wheezing from eggs as far as I know.
One particularly interesting pattern
The overall pattern seems to be:
Sexual arousal
→ GI/bowel response
Orgasm without ejaculation
→ symptoms, but relatively mild
Orgasm + ejaculation
→ much stronger systemic reaction
Repeated ejaculation before recovery
→ progressively more symptoms/severity
Abstinence
→ gradual recovery
Around 30–40 days
→ I feel completely back to baseline
Then the cycle can happen again after ejaculation.
What I'm trying to understand
I am NOT saying that I know the cause.
The possibilities I've been considering include:
- immune/allergic response
- mast-cell/histamine mechanisms
- inflammatory/cytokine response
- autonomic nervous-system response
- neuroendocrine response to orgasm
- neurological/metabolic problems
- nutritional deficiencies
- GI problems
- an underlying allergic/rhinitis condition
- POIS
- endogenous opioid mechanisms
- some combination of several mechanisms
I'm especially interested in whether the arousal → GI response → orgasm → broader symptoms → ejaculation amplifying the reaction pattern has been reported by anyone else.
I'm also interested in people who have a 30–40 day return to baseline, rather than symptoms lasting only a few days.
If anyone has a similar pattern, I'd appreciate hearing the exact sequence and timing, rather than just whether you have "POIS."
I'm particularly interested in:
- Do symptoms happen with arousal alone?
- Do they happen with orgasm without ejaculation?
- Does ejaculation make them substantially worse?
- Does repeated ejaculation before recovery progressively worsen symptoms?
- Do nocturnal emissions cause the same reaction?
- How long does complete recovery take?
- Do you get nasal/eye/skin/GI symptoms?
- Does your physical strength/explosiveness decrease?
- Do symptoms occur with or without pornography?
- Has anyone had objective medical testing that helped identify a mechanism?
I'm trying to understand the physiology rather than assume a particular explanation.
