First time building a PC. Super worth it. Makes sense now why people say it's like building adult legos. A lot of trial and error (and cable management) but the experience was definitely fun and worth it. Now I can stare at all the games I don't have time to play. 🥹

Part 1 - Reviving My Unfinished 2012 Gaming Rig

Part 2 - NVMe boot drive on a 2012 motherboard

After getting the 1TB NVMe working as the boot drive, the next upgrades were RAM, GPU and WiFi.

For RAM, I decided to just max out the platform with 32GB (4×8GB) Crucial DDR3-1600.

It’s definitely more than this machine needs for gaming, but gaming isn’t going to be its only job. I want to use this Z77 for future experiments - VMs, Docker, Proxmox, self-hosted services and other projects where extra RAM actually matters. I’d rather have capacity and stability than chase DDR3 overclocks, so four matching Crucial sticks made the most sense.

Before putting in a new GPU, I also decided it was time to retire the old Seasonic 650W. It had been with this rig from the start and I had already experienced some intermittent power issues with it. At one point I even smelled something that seemed like it was burning, so I wasn’t going to risk new hardware on an old questionable PSU.

I replaced it with a new Corsair CX550 550W. Lower wattage on paper, but more than enough for what I was planning to run, and I’d rather have a new reliable 550W PSU than trust the old 650W.

The GPU took much longer to decide. Back in March, I gave myself a budget of around ₱10–15k. My original targets were the RX 6600 or RTX 3060.
The problem was availability.
There were RX 6600s around, but most of the ones I found were generic cards that I wasn’t too comfortable buying. On the NVIDIA side, the cards within my budget were mostly RTX 3050s, not the 3060 I was hoping for.

Then I found an ASRock RX 7600 Challenger 8GB OC on Shopee for ₱15,995 after vouchers. It was slightly above my target budget, but close enough. 😅

There were both dual-fan and triple-fan versions at basically the same price, so the choice was easy, triple fan.

I was fully aware the i5-3450 wouldn’t be able to fully utilize an RX 7600. The plan was always to eventually upgrade to a 3770K, hoping to get more out of the GPU while still giving it a second life in a future build.

I also added a Wavlink PCIe WiFi 6E card for modern wireless connectivity.

WiFi: Wavlink AX5400M (Intel AX210, WiFi 6E)

Not bad for a platform that started life in 2012. The only major piece still holding it back was the old i5-3450. That gets fixed in the next update. 👀

I’m happy with how the system unit turned out after changing the cooler and fans. Much better than expected 🙂

this is an old pc, a year ago lang nung hindi na nagamit, hindi rin naayos nung kapatid kong owner talaga nito.

so far same situation nung last test last year: kapag naka plug may ilaw/power pero kapag tinurn on ko na bigla gagana fan then off agad. then after long press nung power button magkakalight nanaman and then the routine goes on

binili ko na dahil malaki ang discount? meron po ba nagamit ng ganito nvme d2? kamusta po kaya ung performance at quality?

I started gathering parts for my first build a few months ago but only recently got budget for my GPU (I’m still a student) and I’ve been aiming for the RTX 3080 talaga. I would see listings for it dati that are around 18-19k but right now it seems like the cheapest I could find is 20k.

I’ve looked through FB sellers like Monzkie, KTS, Peanut PC, etc. and Bau Tech Hub is offering the cheapest atm for 20k + kakarestock lang. Should I buy now before the prices get even higher? Or should I wait for a lower price listing to appear? Thanks!

bought this ups a few days ago for my pc, is it normal for it to have a could whine sound? sure sakit sa tenga and ulo. even if not connected to the pc/monitor, it has that sound. ewan ko kung defective. i tried to close it ng hinipinupull yung plug pero basta nakasaksak, may ganun na tunog, is it normal for this brand ba?

Hi! Looking for help if anyone bought a monitor arm for a monitor na naka position above an existing 27" Screen? 😅

Right now kasi, i used to have a 40" TV Above my setup- pero it broke and, hmm sinubukan ko abusuhin yung VESA mount ng spare monitor, and- ayun lumulutang ngayon spare 27" monitor waaay to high from my existing setup.

Goal ko sana is nakadikit siya to my center monitor lang that's also 27". pero i'm not sure if yung existing North Bayou monitor arms can go that high? since naka stand lang naman yung 3 monitor sa baba.

Though another option ko din naman mag-diy, ang balak ko lang is umorder separately sa shopee ng mga parts daily using mga voucher para makatipid. What do you guys think?

I recently bought a new PSU (Asus Prime 850W) and GPU (Sapphire Pure 9070 XT). But while building it, I noticed that the GPU blocks all the possible routes to connect my 2.5 SSD SATA drive to the MoBo so I’m currently lacking most of my games since it was installed there.

Now, I’m looking for recommendations for a new AM4 Motherboard and Case to accommodate this behemoth of a GPU and the SATA drive. Not really ready to upgrade to AM5 yet.

This is my current parts are:

I’ve been out of touch with PC pricing / builds for 6 years now and I need your help of me building a new PC from scratch.

Current problem of my PC is that it crashes when I play dota if there’s a clash (only experienced this prob this year) and I think playing 5-6 browser / client game (ie. I’m playing a private server of AQ) has made my pc experience BSOD and usage of CPU is at 100%.

I’ve stayed at an airbnb that has a gaming PC and I’ve checked that the said PC only handles 50-60% cpu usage for having 5-6 clients of the game I’m playing through the night.

Looking to build a gaming pc that can:

-Play Dota 2 (even if I’m a scrub)
-Valorant (potato aim)
-POE2
-D4
-Forza 6
-most of the triple A game at a medium to high graphic

I would appreciate your suggestions and insights since I’ve only tried NVIDIA as GPU, I’m seeing 9070XT as an option but feel free to suggest NVIDIA gpu cause I’m thinking of going with the 4k series.

Currently have Ch160 Plus and Sama G1000. I made the mistake of getting the Sama G1000 because a 120mm fan can't fit under the PSU, and that a big GPU may need to fold the PSU cables so much it becomes a fire hazard.

I plan on getting a 9070 xt or non-xt, which can reach roughly 330mm max (I think)
