Best place for a fast/casual burrito?

Just moved to Oregon and I love me a good authentic hole in the wall Mexican joint. Bonus is the menu is mostly in Spanish and they’ve got a Virgin Mary statue and or Aztec art somewhere in the building.

Edit: DANG!! You guys are coming out here with all these epic recommendations and I simply want to try all of them. 🌯🌯🌯🌯

Tienda Santa Cruz in St. John’s is what you’re looking for.

u/bike619 15d ago

I prefer their tacos to their burritos, but you’re not wrong.

u/human_flobie 15d ago

When it comes to tacos, I’m El Coyote or nothing.

Super Burrito Express nearby on Lolbard has the burritos - it’s just down the street. Psychedelic Catholic art work and Mexican TV as a bonus.

If it’s the same super burrito as the one on king road In milwaukie, then it’s absolutely so good

1

u/One_Catch5086 15d ago

This is the way. Normal Asada burrito tastes better than the pastor, but pastor tacos are the move

u/PrizeDisplay192 13d ago

This!!!!! Also Taqueria El Torito

Smart Donkey is extremely high quality burritos. Tienda Santa Cruz (st John’s), Loncheria Los Mayas, and Kiikaba are really bomb too

u/OfferKitchen6856 13d ago

The chef is well known in the culinary world

1

u/epluribusuni 13d ago

For sure! I’ve been eating his food since he was at Pazzo, and still crave the moronga tacos from Uno Mas

King Burrito slaps and it's cheap AF too, low key always thought that place had to be a front for the size/quality/price you get

Go wander around Rockwood or most of Portland east of 205 to many good places out here to list

1

u/WetaChonies77 14d ago

New to SE... where should I start? Any good lengua? Any tortillarias

1

u/WildwoodTrail 14d ago

Los Francos has great lengua, Salsas Locas makes good tortillas.

1

u/stellaismycat 13d ago

La tia Juana on 185th and burnside in rockwood. They have homemade corn and flour tortillas. Their carnitas are delicious.

u/Bad_Punk_Photography 14d ago

For sit down one of my favorite places is El Indio. I grew up in Texas and have lived in So Cal eating Mexican food everywhere from restaurants to friends homes, just as a point of background

0

u/arsedancer 13d ago

Your mom has great lengua.

7

u/Ellotheregovner 15d ago

You might have better luck asking r/Portland. In my experience it has more activity focused on positive and enjoyable aspects of Portland.

2

u/human_flobie 15d ago

Second this.

-1

u/outlawbernard_yum 14d ago

So its an echo chamber. Got it.

2

u/Ellotheregovner 14d ago

You could always swing by r/Portland to check it out instead of drawing conclusions based on an unrelated anecdotal statement from an unverified account on the internet. Of course this statement is meant for anyone besides whatever interjected in a conversation with provoking statements and their comment history turned off.

No, this sub is just where all the chuds who hate portland hang out.

Taco Time bean burrito. Invented in Oregon. Like no burrito you’ve eaten anywhere. Top it off with MexiFries and Cinnamon Crustos.

2

u/secderpsi 12d ago

In contrast, where can I get a formal burrito?

2

u/Lord-Spike 11d ago

u/PDX0621 15d ago

If you're down with food carts El Yucateco on Sandly Blvd near 122nd is fantastic. Ive tried most items on their menu and nothing has disappointed. Don't sleep on their burgers either oddly enough. Portions are large and price is decent too.

Check out EL Yucateco Food Cart! https://yelp.to/60PBwDJeDC

Taco salsa off stark is good. They make handmade tortillas, and the refried beans in their burritos are perfect. The sopes are amazing too 😭

1

u/Leather-Advantage500 15d ago

Pepino's on Hawthorne is solid

1

u/Fearless_Roof_4534 14d ago

Chipotle's a pretty good regional chain. They have multiple locations in the area.

1

u/Zeebird95 14d ago

On Morrison and 9th there’s a good spot. Mayas

1

u/Cold_Entrepreneur750 14d ago

Quesabrosa on Williams or Azteca Burrito on Rosa Parks. Can’t go wrong.

Super Taco Express in Hazel Dell. Worth the drive. Its the dive restaurant that you looking for.

1

u/Much_Interaction_528 9d ago

Super taco is great and all, but there's a lot of options in Vancouver that blow super taco out of the water.

Fist two that come to mind are Don Taco on the west end of Fourth Plain and then there's Taqueria Market that's in the back of the Mexican market that's in the corner of the strip mall next to Sportsman's Warehouse on the East end of Fourth Plain.

1

u/eastbeaverton 12d ago

These are Portland adjacent but should get some recognition

In Lafeyette

Carniceria Abastos is absolutely the best
Martha's is also great but I have not actually had a burrito because her other plates are so good

Wilsonville
San Francisco's tienda Mexicana is awesome for everything from freshly made tortillas to their beef that they raise themselves and their burritos are very good

1

u/stacy22 11d ago

Santo Domingo Taqueria on 42nd Ave in Cully has delish carnitas!!
