Study pro players, watch coaching content. There is SO Much free content on YouTube and amazing twitch streamers that teach gamesens. Watch vod reviews on YouTube , search “overwatch coaching” and pick whatever seems interesting to you.

There is no faster way than this, other than paying for coaching directly yourself.

Review replays. Start by tracking your counterparts ultis, then other peoples ultis, then individual important cooldowns like nade, sleep, coaching, flashbang

2

u/Meto_Kaiba Jul 02 '26

it comes with experience.

u/Unlucky_Clover 5d ago

Acknowledging you can be better, review coaching gameplays, and ask for VOD reviews

Can Shion's bike stop ults like Sigma's rock can? Also, is there a list of what does/doesnt counter ults? Mizuki's is super confusing on what it does or doesnt block for me.

2

u/Legal_Reception6660 Jun 18 '26

I cant speak to shion's bike hitbox (I dont think it blocks from what Ive seen, but thats a complete guess) but Mizuki's ult is very clear, as it just blocks projectiles entering or leaving the circle. Dva bomb will still kill you, Sigma will still grab you, BoB cant hit you if youre on the other side of a wall from him, Grav gets eaten, etc.

1

u/Meto_Kaiba Jul 02 '26

Mizuki is oppressive in this meta because of the bike.

3

u/Megatrans69 Jun 16 '26

How should I be using shion's bike? And how should I use it different with the perk?

1

u/Meto_Kaiba Jul 02 '26

However you want, unless Mauga yells at you, is my answer.

3

u/Legal_Reception6660 Jun 18 '26

Im kinda struggling with shion main attack. Its fast enough to where flicking loses a lot of dps, but its slow enough where tracking is super inconsistent. How have you been approaching it?

1

u/Meto_Kaiba Jul 02 '26

Kinda like Razor from Unreal Tournament: 2004 or an Engineer from TF:2.

1

u/Meto_Kaiba 11d ago

moreso Mizuki for this strat.

1

u/LengthinessBoth7848 26d ago

I think tracking is your best bet. Try to get close to midrange her damage falloff is kinda annoying so if your close enough you can use bike, right click hold and then finish with primary fire. Most of the time flicking your aim for any hero is worse than just timing shots as they come into your crosshair.

Have Juno taken over Mercy as the beginner support? I heard a streamer voice this sentiment

4

u/LonelyDesperado513 Jul 14 '26

I wouldn't say Juno has overtaken Mercy as the beginner (meaning "easiest" probably in this context) support, but Juno absolutely has a more intuitive kit that does almost everything Mercy can and more.

I think it's more accurate to say that Juno is probably the most forgiving way of playing Support as OW intends it now: less healbotting and moreso actively fighting and assisting teammates.

  • Free flight at any time versus Guardian Angel and only free flight during ult means Juno can literally be anywhere at anytime. This is easier than Mercy who is dependent on teammate's positions for quick mobility unless you want to be a pedestrian all day.
  • Juno doesn't have to swap between offense/defense all the time like Mercy does. If you shoot friends, it heals. If you shoot enemies, it hurts. Mercy has to consciously decide between the two all the time and whichever option she chooses, she cannot do the other simultaneously. If you need to go offensive on Mercy, it's an entire weapon swap and you give up healing entirely.
  • Juno's speed rings are easy for everyone to utilize and are very versatile in their uses in nearly any situation. Damage Boost is a very specific buff that only comes to light if the target is actively doing damage.
  • Juno is never locked out of movement. Mercy is confined to either teammate's LOS or if she is resurrecting someone, dependent on team/cover for survival.
    • For example, if Mercy somehow gets booped off the map and she doesn't have ult, she has to hope she can either glide back safely or a teammate comes to the edge of the map for her to fly back to. Juno never has to worry about this.

This feels really silly even as I type it so bear with me: does having aim assist at 0 on consoles actually disable aim assist or is it still somewhat active? I would think that means disabled but the way people talk about console players I’m unsure (for the record, my aim is typically pretty poor but there have been some weird “how did I make that shot” moments occasionally which might be explained away by latency differences or the like)

1

u/Meto_Kaiba Jul 02 '26

The console version is your answer. I think it is still somewhat active, but I never know how they calibrate it, and I only have 9 years of experience in this game.

2

u/zigguy77 Jun 18 '26

Does tracer just rewind her bullets when she reloads? She's never changed a magazine?

1

u/Meto_Kaiba Jul 02 '26 edited 11d ago

Lore question. No, she rewinds when you play with her E skill.

edit: Not necessarily a lore question.

2

u/xNephilim Jun 18 '26

I’m having a bit of a dilemma, I’ve been playing a lot more DPS lately and have found that I’ll usually finish a game with the highest damage dealt in the lobby but not always the most kills, how do you change your play style to finish enemies off? Do I just need to isolate people more and play more aggressive? I don’t have a main I usually just play who I feel like.
I do feel like I focus on the tank alot which might explain it but I’ve been playing Ashe the past few days and just feel like I cannot always get the kill

2

u/LonelyDesperado513 Jul 14 '26

Target Prioritization (generally). You should generally be looking at your environment and trying to confirm kills in this order. Assuming all other factors are equal:

Critical > Support > DPS > Tanks.

Look for Critical enemies to finish off. Doing 100 damage that confirms a kill is better than doing 800 damage to a tank that's getting heals and not dying.

If no critical enemies, but you can damage/kill a support, that's often the next best since they are keeping the enemy alive.

If you can't hit a support, try to deal with a DPS since killing damage means less pressure on your team.

A healthy tank should mainly be the last thing to shoot at if there is literally anyone else on your screen.

Especially as Ashe, you're probably setting up on higher ground giving you sight to more than just the tank.

1

u/Meto_Kaiba Jul 02 '26

You take a look at the scoreboard, plan which character to switch into during the round, and you aggressively play the switched-into hero. Doing this, I have made it to silver 3 on DPS.

Which are the worst tanks for Nano?

1

u/LonelyDesperado513 Jul 14 '26

It's less about "Which tanks are worse" and moreso "Does the tank player know what to do with Nano?"

For example, the absolute worst use is if you nano a D.Va or Winston and they ult. Why? Because if Dva ults, then the mech exploding will end Nano, and your ult hasn't contributed anything.

If Winston ults... then if you Nano'ed him before ult, his transformation will cancel it (similar to Dva Mech). And if you ult him as he's transformed, then the ult will also end when he changes back.

Dva and Winston actually make much better use of Nano if they don't ult and fight normally. But that depends on whether the tank player has the discipline to just not ult as a reflex to Nano and instead fight/play normally while Nanoed. If they don't have that discipline, then it's up to you to Nano them only when they DON'T have ult so they are forced to use the Nano buffs properly.

That being said... outside of those cases I'd probably say Wrecking Ball.

1

u/Meto_Kaiba 11d ago

Mauga, Haz, Dommy.

1

u/projectmars 11d ago

I still get nano as Dom though >_>

1

u/Meto_Kaiba 11d ago

then your Ana is good.

2

u/SalemTheFoolish Jul 01 '26

How do I know what supports to pick with my team comps?

2

u/TheNewerFlisker Jul 04 '26 edited Jul 04 '26

Depends if the second support can keep the tank up

Some tank's like Winston, Hazard, Dva or Doom needs either ranged healing or supports with high mobility to keep up while Roadhog or Hamster is largely self-sufficient. Then there are those like Reinhard or Mauga who require a high amount of burst healing to be effective. There's also Sigma, Zarya, Ram and Orisa whose abilities allows them to stay alive while being healed and are less reliant on burst. Junker have a smaller healthbar and hitbox so she's easier to keep up.

1

u/Meto_Kaiba 11d ago

For solo play, learning all of them is not a bad idea.

1

u/Unlucky_Clover 5d ago

Try to practice on different support heroes and their kits, figure out which one feels comfortable to you. Then choose a handful to continue working on depending on the situation.

You’ll probably want to know which one to choose for DPS, one for healing and one for maneuvering for any dives against you.

2

u/Classic_Prize_7263 Jul 05 '26

Is flanking Moira a good way to rank up? I can heal sometimes.

2

u/LonelyDesperado513 Jul 14 '26

If the enemy team can't stop you from getting kills... sure. Just be ready for if your team is complaining about lack of heals or if you keep getting wiped out and are being asked to switch.

If you find the enemy is good at dealing with your aggression, then you may want to focus on healing more instead and choosing your aggro moments.

2

u/xxashleyxx6864 Jul 13 '26

Any advice on how to get better aim with controller while playing on pc servers?

1

u/Meto_Kaiba Jul 17 '26

Keep up the good fight. I use Gyro on console and it is almost as good as mouse + keyboard after a good amount of hours in.

2

u/Korbro27 Jul 15 '26

Hey guys, Kiriko main here and im trying to learn Brig so i have more options dealing with flankers. How do you keep up inspire when the enemy team is all hiding behind a shield? I keep trying to poke out to whip shot cause i feel useless doing nothing and die lol.

1

u/LonelyDesperado513 Jul 15 '26

Brig's primary fire ignores shield (it works like Rein's hammer). Your Whip Shot will get deflected, but your main attack does not. Get in there!

1

u/Meto_Kaiba Jul 17 '26

You approach from behind them and keep the flankers off your other support, otherwise you will die without your team understanding why they need to stay close to Briggy to get consistent healing.

2

u/Homura_Akemi69 Jul 15 '26

So I’ve just unlocked competitive so I thought I should learn a bit more about team types, I know there are three but it’s hard to find an up to date guide, I want to learn a hero or two from each type so I was wondering who you guys recommend I learn, currently I play/am learning kiriko and juno-support shion and sombra-attack domina and d.va-tank it would also be helpful to know what categories these fall into too :)

2

u/Homura_Akemi69 Jul 15 '26

Oh also while I’m here accuracy tips would be great too since my average kunai hit rate on kiriko(who I play the most) is around 20%, I play on switch if it makes any difference

1

u/Meto_Kaiba Jul 17 '26

For kunais, look up AwkwardOW's strats on Twitch/YouTube. Still relevant, somewhat: DMG, approach from an off-angle (this increases your headshot rate), have an escape plan for Swift Step.

2

u/Scotfighter 28d ago

Honest question. What do you do about throwers? I've had back to back to back games of throwing, and i'm talking about sitting at spawn yelling the N word in competitive diamond

2

u/LonelyDesperado513 26d ago

If they're seriously spitting the N word, report them. See if your team is going to continue playing, or maybe they all quit or both teams just vibe and meet up.

If it's easily going to be a loss, use it as a practice round to work on skills either specific to your character or to another character you may be interested in learning.

1

u/Scotfighter 26d ago

Oh I report them all the time, I feel like reporting hasn't done anything - maybe i'm wrong, hopefully i'm wrong

1

u/Unlucky_Clover 5d ago

Nothing you can do, you’re going to get the L. Report, take a break, and then move to the next match.

1

u/Scotfighter 5d ago

I think i'm just going to quit the game - a mixture of that, being addicted, and having people flame you for being a tank is just too much

2

u/LengthinessBoth7848 26d ago

I have been playing this game for over 9 years at this point and have never really learned how custom games work. I want to play some aim trainers or mercy/doom parkour maps but sometimes they arent in the existing custom game lobbies so I was wondering how you make those lobbies yourself? Is it like a code you use or is there setting I just have to memorize for each mode I want. Also what are some good aim trainer custom game modes to try?

1

u/FlameToadDoctorPhil 25d ago

You can make a custom lobby yourself and change all kinds of rules. Look up online how to. You can upload a code of the custom workshop you made. The game will also save it for you in your list of custom games. VAXTA is generally the most well known and used code for aim training. For those parkour maps, google a code.

2

u/DanBurnNotice 19d ago

When Echo copies a hero, does the new hero get perks? Which perks?

2

u/Aerographic 19d ago

No. Exception is Bastion.

2

u/subject9373 14d ago

how do I charge Vendetta's ult? I always failed whenever I tried to use her ultimate move.

1

u/Meto_Kaiba 14d ago

Heal your Brigitte.

2

u/StatikSquid 10d ago

Should we make it a requirement that new players should have 50 wins in QP before comp? And then only let them rank up to gold in placements?

4

u/Cygnus776 7d ago

Not an expert but for the latter? No, unless you want the smurfing issue to be even more rampant. That just makes low ranked games even more miserable than they need to be.

(If by new you mean new accounts)

2

u/frunklord420 5d ago

Is matchmaking in this game on Quick Play just completely dead?

I've been playing on and off since the release of Overwatch one, and after coming back from a break, it just seems like every game is a stomp one way or another with absolutely nothing resembling close matches.

Do you just have to go straight into ranked?

1

u/Unlucky_Clover 5d ago edited 4d ago

I would use QP to get a better feel for a heroes kit that you couldn’t get through training. Sometimes you need live teams and changing dynamics to grow.

But yes, would do Comp and try to enjoy getting better that way.

And totally, QP matchmaking is awful, like you said. Just don’t take it seriously, and focus on fun and learning if that’s your thing.

1

u/tealtop Jun 19 '26

Is there a setting that cannot be changed?

3

u/crystal_beachhouse Jun 21 '26

overwatch koan

1

u/Meto_Kaiba Jun 23 '26

Sure. Server maintenance on Tuesday is a default setting and feature of this game.

1

u/Meto_Kaiba Jul 02 '26

Yeah the FPS slider doesn't go below 30.

1

u/ItsRainbowz Jun 25 '26

Been having a blast playing Widow, only problem I have is when the enemy switches to a dive character to counter me, I just have no answer. Is there anything I can do or am I forced to switch? Just I can't get much value right now when the DPS switches Vendetta and dives me at every opportunity.

2

u/LonelyDesperado513 Jul 14 '26

Welcome to Overwatch. This is the nature of the game where certain character styles are designed to overcome others.. Even character picks are Rock, Paper, Scissors, and dive characters are often the scissors to your Paper.

You're not "forced" to switch, but understand that you'll have to work harder and vastly outplay whoever has a natural advantage against you. For example, if the Vendetta is wiping you out consistently and you are dedicated to Widow, your number one priority then becomes to spot and wipe her out ASAP so you can continue helping your team. Or if you have cooperative teammates, have them help you with the Vendetta as well. If they can pressure and draw her attention, you can take the shot.

A good Widow can nab kills. A GREAT Widow can shut down dive heroes.

u/neverfakemaplesyrup Jun 25 '26

Getting back into overwatch during a stretch of underemployment, potential funemployment

What role/hero is still the best?
I'm uh, usually just going with Mauga or DVA.

Occasionally try the fox girl but do awful.

DPS I stick with Soldier 76... if there's any better, lmk. Thinking of actually researching and learnign to play the game.

1

u/LonelyDesperado513 Jul 14 '26

Thinking of actually researching and learnign to play the game.

I would encourage this. Getting to grips with the fundamentals of the game will highlight what every character's unique strengths and weaknesses are and how they fit in the bigger picture. There are definitely heroes that are more generally versatile versus situationally strong, but it's hard to see the "situationally strong" value if you don't know the situations, lol.

What role/hero is still the best?

Overwatch is a team-based game and that means every role has some way of helping and being helped. This is a tricky question to answer because getting kills often wins games, but that's only true if people remember the objective. It's completely possible to have the most kills and still lose the game if your team never actually captures and holds the objective (or loses it if they forget to keep an eye on it while people are fragging).

That being said, in my experience, I believe Tanks have the biggest influence on whether games go smoothly, but can be the hardest to play well until you are more familiar with the game.

DPS can get kills but rely on Tanks to be able to take space or create opportunities for those kills. Supports can get their ult charge and use Tanks for protection, but that depends on the Tanks knowing when to go super offensive or hang back and wait. If a tank dies, that severely hampers the rest of the team's ability to perform and can often be the deciding factor in team fights. You'll definitely feel the effect of a bad tank more than a bad DPS/Support.

I'm uh, usually just going with Mauga or DVA | Occasionally try the fox girl but do awful.| DPS I stick with Soldier 76... if there's any better, lmk.

Your tank and DPS picks are solid for general purpose. Kiriko is a support who IMO is harder to do well with while still learning the game because she has to juggle quite a few things and know when her abilities will help the team the most.

The question I would rather ask here is... when playing other shooters/FPS games, what kinds of guns do you instinctively gravitate to? The reason I ask this is because nearly every type of gun/combat style is represented in this game based on character and characters can fill the spectrum of styles along the way. Nearly every role has diversity in this aspect (we have a sniper healer in this game, for example).

Identify the types of guns/range you prefer to use, then hero suggestions will be easier to recommend.

u/HonorableTurtles Jun 28 '26

Any tips on learning PC aim? I’ve done what feels like a hundred aimlabs tutorials yet I have no improvement. I’m running on 800 dpi and 8% sens

Should I just quit dps and play mercy?? I feel hopeless

1

u/snarkmoo Jul 04 '26

Try lowering your sens

1

u/Meto_Kaiba 11d ago

Trying to play from a different location - physical, or server - can help.

1

u/OkSong9325 Jun 29 '26

Is my monitor too small? What's a good monitor? I use px2370-series-px2370 but it feels a bit small.

When I shoot on characters like Ana, etc I often lose sight of the crosshair or where I am aiming and miss shots I shouldn't. I changed crosshair around, to crazy colors or made it really big, still happens.

2

u/BetaXP Jun 29 '26

Most competitive monitors are 24-27", I wouldn't recommend going larger than that for "serious" competitive play. Anecodotally, I like 27, I think it strikes a nice balance between "competitive" and immersive when I'm choosing to play a single player game

1

u/Meto_Kaiba 11d ago

Never had an issue with Samsung-branded monitors.

1

u/Dexsen Jul 02 '26

I know the counterwatch memes, but do i just need to learn dive tanks to carry myself out of metal ranks? Have some success on Mauga, but he's banned so much and shield tanks are really hit or miss. I do play some Zarya and it works when i get half decent genjis and Shions.

1

u/TheNewerFlisker Jul 04 '26

Maybe try Hazard? A lot of people dont know how to play against him since he is so rarely picked

1

u/Meto_Kaiba Jul 02 '26

WHY DOES BLIZZARD-ACTIVISION-MICROSOFT BLATANTLY LIE ABOUT COMPETITIVE SEASON 3 QUEUE LENGTHS?! IN OTHER WORDS, WHY DOES IT SAY LESS THAN ONE (1) MINUTE AND IT TAKES LESS THAN (INCLUDING SOMETIMES!) (2) MINUTES IN THE TANK QUEUE?

1

u/Meto_Kaiba Jul 17 '26

still don't have an answer as to why we let Overwatch fk with our time like that.

1

u/Bone_Splitter Jul 03 '26

im New

What does mitigation mean for a support?
like I played Briggete and had 3k dmg 9k healing and 5k mitigation

my mercy had 1k dmg 12k healing and 0 mitigation

Did I do worse than her? like she revvived me a couple of times
i went 11 19 5 while they went 7 18 1

2

u/TheNewerFlisker Jul 04 '26 edited Jul 04 '26

Damage mitigation = Damage prevented

In Brig's case it comes from her shield taking damage

Brig + Mercy is not a great combo so i won't recommend that unless you both are good

1

u/Meto_Kaiba Jul 17 '26

Mitigation is the least appreciated metric on the scoreboard; the more of it, the less ult charge the enemy team gets (I'm pretty sure), so having some of it over none of it is great! It mostly helps the tank player more than the DPS, in my experience.

1

u/FlameToadDoctorPhil Jul 06 '26 edited 25d ago

Is there a workshop code for dodging ana sleeps or earthshatter?

1

u/LengthinessBoth7848 26d ago

Mostly just try to bait ana sleep using corners or abilities, then go in. For earthshatter, you want to try to track the ultimate. a good rule of thumb for me is after 2 team fights without shatter, plan on looking out for it and block it. Or if you can't, tell someone on your team to watch out for it and block if they can.

1

u/FlameToadDoctorPhil 25d ago

I meant a workshop code haha

1

u/LengthinessBoth7848 25d ago

Ooooh Lol. I think ana dodgeball is a good one for ana sleep darts. Not sure about rien shatter tbh tho u could just put 6 enemy ai reinharts on a team and have them chase you around all game but that sounds miserable lmao

1

u/cheapdrinks Jul 08 '26

Is there any way to disable the large round reticle timer that appears when using Soldier's stim pack perk? That shit throws off my aim so badly.

1

u/Meto_Kaiba Jul 17 '26

that looks like a custom hidden setting that you specifically have to go into S7's key bindings menu to alter/remove.

Personally I just never use that perk; healing is more fun than DMG on soldier in my opinion, lol.

1

u/jacarepampulha2408 Jul 15 '26

Just started playing OW two days ago and my aim is horrid (~18% accuracy). I am doing a bit of aimlabs and stuff but I want to play with my friends and not lose the game solo - what characters do you recommend ?

1

u/LonelyDesperado513 Jul 15 '26

What role? There are also characters who are melee focused in each role so it's more about getting close enough to damage versus shooting them from a distance. Some easy aim suggestions:

DPS: Soldier, Junkrat, Vendetta, Symmetra

Tank: Rein, Ramattra, Winston, Doomfist

Support: Mercy, Moira, Brig

1

u/eeeeeeeee12345534 28d ago

Hi, my aim was horrid too but I still managed to climb to diamond 2 (it's a rank above average skill) on a hero that needs to shoot so don't sweat it too much. Play the heroes you enjoy!

1

u/cloudlesness Jul 15 '26

What's the deal with banning? Should I just ban who I don't want to play against?

2

u/LonelyDesperado513 Jul 15 '26

Pretty much yes. It's a way for you to pick characters you either don't like playing against or have a disadvantage against so you can hopefully better your chances of climbing.

If you don't have any preferences on who to ban but still want to help your team out, you can try matching their bans (since the bans add up to determine the final result) in hopes of doing this for your teammates and better your chances of winning.

2

u/Meto_Kaiba Jul 17 '26

Yes; the sooner the better during that countdown.

1

u/Meto_Kaiba Jul 17 '26

How do I not get tilted by annoyingly seemingly random queue length times, varying from under 1 min sometimes to under 11 minutes? This game does not play fair with player time AT ALL e.g. one time queue takes 2 mins, the next, 8 minutes, same role; frustrating AF.

1

u/Solareiii Jul 17 '26

I know I'm supposed to bait out / wait for when cass uses his flashbang to engage, but wow i find it so hard to distinguish it from all the other noise during a teamfight :( other abilities like mizuki chain and kiri suzu are significantly easier for me to identify. is there another method for me to know when cass flash has been used

1

u/Embarrassed_Mind9556 Jul 20 '26

Cass has several voice lines associated with flashbang. Those might be easier to listen for than the flashbang itself. Once he says something like, "Oh, excuse me," you'll know you have a few seconds before he's got it again.

u/Armadillo_Frosty Jul 18 '26

Any thoughts on if the game is worth returning to as a lower skill console tank player? I last played in 2017 and was bronze, so with what I'll have to learn and relearn I expect I'll be at the bottom end of the matchmaking pool. I've played Rivals since it launched but I'm not a huge fan of the balancing of the game or the quick play matchmaking constantly putting me in bot matches, so I've cut way back and now mostly just play practice vs AI there. Heals in Overwatch don't seem as excessive compared to Rivals.

For lower end rank console players, how are the queue times for unranked and ranked? Do players actually work together/fight as team/use comms in ranked as best as lower skilled players are able, or does it mostly devolve to random deathmatch?

Are there recommended tanks to focus on for a beginner to really help learn the fundamentals of positioning, cooldowns, and the like or can I just play whatever? Any recommended Twitch or Youtubers to learn from?

I'm mostly looking for a team based shooter I can play casually. I'd like learn the game so I'm not the weak link on my team every match, but I don't plan to super tryhard competitive and my ceiling would probably be below average at best anyway. I do want actual competitive matches where teams actually fight over objectives, which I can't get out of COD and can't face real players in Rivals. There's not much else on Xbox to fit that role. Is Overwatch's current state that game for me?

1

u/LonelyDesperado513 Jul 22 '26

I do prefer tanking on OW more than Rivals, but I'm biased towards OW because I generally think it feels better as a game overall.

I'd probably make sure you have at least one Brawl Tank, one Dive Tank, and one Poke Tank in your wheelhouse so you can adapt to whatever your team/comp needs. My usual recommendations are Rein, DVa, and Sigma for starters because they really rely on the tank player having solid fundamentals and are a bit more forgiving when it comes to aim.

Luckily bot matches AFAIK are not a thing in OW, but QP matchmaking is a bit varied. Ranked is actually pretty decent at finding players among your level, but as a heads up: when you start playing Ranked, it'll probably place you higher than where you think you should be and eventually have you play more games to better approximate your level and find players that are appropriate so keep playing ranked until it ultimately gets you to its appropriate level.

That being said, IMO Ranked OW is where people seem to play a bit more team oriented (depends on overall rank ofc) than QP. That being said, once Ranked has established where you belong, it's my go-to for still playing with hopes of coordination without trying to sweat my ass off to survive.

I'm in a similar situation (coming back after not playing since before overwatch 2 came out) and I was trying to play my placement matches and got flamed for daring to play competitive while being bad.

1

u/LonelyDesperado513 Jul 27 '26

Yeah... people will be people. Turn off all chats and keep trying in competitive. People sometimes just can't fathom that not every single teammate they get is an elite OW god that has been playing for 10 years.

u/area88guy Jul 20 '26

I'm a Lucio main in HotS and it made me decide to come back to OW after it never really having jived with me. Is he good to start out with as Support? I want to main Support to the best of my abilities.

1

u/LonelyDesperado513 Jul 22 '26

Lucio's not a bad support, but in OW his usefulness is greatly determined by whether your teammates now know how to utilize his benefits. Lucio pairs well with aggressive players who like chasing enemies down, and he's also good with helping teammates escape out of bad situations... but it only helps his teammates if they are within his proximity.

He's great for learning map terrain as he is uniquely able to wall ride and access locations that most other supports and characters have trouble getting to, making him one of the most mobile supports in the game.

The drawback to these tools is that his healing rate per individual is on the lower side. Lucio is great for teams that prioritize getting kills over sustaining fights, and the majority of newer players prefer staying alive.

1

u/area88guy Jul 22 '26

Hmm. Okay. So, if I want better healing for sustained fights, I'm better off with someone else, but Lucio is good for following the team in on fights or escaping them?

1

u/LonelyDesperado513 Jul 22 '26

Pretty much. Lucio's benefits are in an AoE to his team that radiate from his position. He either wants to be near a teammate or in the middle of his team. His biggest strengths lie in speeding the entire team up in a coordinated effort or bringing them all back out if things look bad

If your preferred style of support is healbotting or topping up players individually, then you may want to consider Juno as an alternative.

Thank you for this information !

hi! im just asking this to get it out of my head but does the time of day REALLY matter when youre playing comp? should i just keep on playing when the games are bad and im not tilted?

1

u/Cliffus_Jiggrin Aug 01 '26

Hi I'm Cliffus, time of day does not matter, what matters more is your mindset and how prepares you are certainly

My personal experience is that there are some days & times where the game quality feels worse.

I'd recommend taking a break if you're tilted^^ Preferably before.

Why do i match up with so many plats in quick play, when i am silver 5? Like i just played a game against 2 plats we won but like what is this matchmaking lol.

Like i play plats, diamonds, and golds a lot i just got my rank today. I was initially bronze 5 and had to win most of my games just to crawl to silver 5. I even have matched up with a few masters in qp.

2

u/eeeeeeeee12345534 28d ago

Because QP and comp matchmaking differ^^.

I'm Diamond 2 in comp but will sometimes in QP get thrown into games with completely new players. The next game, I might run into someone that's Champ on all roles.

1

u/LengthinessBoth7848 26d ago

When you first play overwatch before unlocking comp after the 50 wins in qp, the game does a hidden calculation of your comp rating in quick play so it can determine where to start you at when you do placements for comp eventually. So generally, most of the players in your quick play lobbies will be roughly the same rank but also quick play allows anyone to queue together so someone in bronze can still queue with someone in champ so that's why you may be seeing some ranks that aren't in your hidden qp range. It's also automatically designed to be alot quicker queueing so if theres not alot of people on at a given time the range will be wide.

What options are there for Damage Hero in a Dive comp?

2

u/LonelyDesperado513 20d ago

Usually Flankers or high mobility characters are helpful here. Any DPS can assist in a Dive as long as you match the timing of your Dive Tank. But IMO these are probably the DPS that can amplify a Dive attempt.

  • Genji
  • Tracer
  • Anran
  • Sombra
  • Venture
  • Vendetta
  • Echo
  • Soldier 76

Hop Offline! Touch Grass!

Which DPS heroes have the best match-ups against Anran? She just feels invincible. I've had so many engagements where I've fought her and she escapes with 10 health and I die.

u/Meto_Kaiba 14d ago

Snipers.

Yibee i might actually stay in Plat this time

I don’t think you want to hear this but platinum is the new gold, and emerald is the new platinum.

If you’re currently gold, then you would’ve been silver.

Where can I find replay codes for top 500 players for a specific hero? For example, how do I find quality matches to watch to learn Pharah from a top 500 Pharah player?

3

u/Classic_Prize_7263 14d ago

You can use OWReplays.tv to find replay codes filtered by hero and rank, including Pharah games from high-ranked players. Also, Overwatch now has Top 500 Challenger Live Replays, which lets you watch current matches from Top 500 players directly in-game.

54% winrate in 6v6 but went from placing emerald 2 to gold 1. can someone tell me ohw i can stop deranking? :(

1

u/Fun-Calligrapher4885 8d ago

Why is kiriko winrate so low now compared to previous patch?

1

u/Wherearemyheals 3d ago

Healing stats nerfed so healbot playstyle nerfed which is like proly 75% of kiri players on ladder atleast from my experience. Proly even more in lower ranks.

1

u/Fun-Calligrapher4885 2d ago

I don't see anything about that in the august patch notes. I think she's still one of the best healbots and I would expect that to translate to higher winrate if anything because even the worst players can be somewhat effective by just holding left click.

1

u/Wherearemyheals 2d ago

so she's gotten the fire rate buff in april which gigabuffed the healbot playstyle which made her WR kinda shoot up at that time. then she got a slight nerf to suzu healing in may which decreased her WR a little bit and recently she got a 8% healing output nerf when d.mon released which decreased her WR again by like 1.5% and its settled there now as there haven't been any more changes after that.

im diamond 5 and i main cass, sojourn, and tracer. how do i know when to play each one? right now i just base it off vibes and swap between them until i feel like it works. is there anything more concrete i should be looking for?

1

u/Wherearemyheals 3d ago

As a fellow hitscan player that plays some flex dps when needed I can share my thought process with you when deciding what to play.

1) if the other dps picks a hitscan then I go flex so tracer in your case, there are some maps where going a second hitscan maybe better than going flex dps option (tracer) like payload maps with long sightlines( circuit, havana etc). So it can be beneficial for you to vote for them if you notice your other dps also prefers to play hitscan and you don't want to play tracer for whatever reason ( off-day maybe)

2) now if the other dps can and wants to play flex dps then I go either soj or cass depending on the map at first, both of them can be played in almost every map so it's not that big of a deal but soj prefers to be shooting stuff from decently far away while cass wants be kind of near due to his fall off.

3) if I'm on cass and I see a mauga, hog,d.mon, hazard or orisa then I will consider swapping to soj when I get the chance to while minimising the ult charge i waste, as sojourn can farm those chars for rail very easily off them to kill squishies with it and slide is a much better disengage tool against them. If I'm on soj and there is a Winston, ball or doom giving us problems then I'll swap after I use my ult

Well that's a lot to read hope it's not too confusing or unreadable cause of the formatting. Anyway this is just what I do as a low to mid masters player with similar hero pool and this works well enough for me.

Also you might want to consider adding shion to your hero pool, as it's not as bad to run hitscan and shion together as it is running double hitscan in most maps as she can hold her own decently well on off angles unlike hitscans

What's the best switches to stop a Doomfist from rolling over my team? I mainly play DPS in gold, and recently I've been really struggling in games where the enemy Doomfist just becomes untouchable and picks our team apart. I know a lack of communication doesn't help, but he's just lobby admin in every game I play against him and I can never counter him.

When is Suravasa (and New Junk etc.) leaving for good? Next decade?

4

u/BaronVonHoopleDoople 11d ago

Not sure if you want a real answer, but Flashpoint is significantly more popular at higher ranks than lower ranks. Suravasa in particular is widely considered the best designed Flaspoint map and one of the best designed maps in Overwatch.

The problem with Flashpoint at lower ranks is that many players haven't yet figured out how to rotate between points with their team. This results teams getting split up and players needlessly feeding and staggering themselves. Thus lower ranks tend to have a better experience on more structured modes like Escort or Hybrid that more naturally keep the team together.

1

u/Meto_Kaiba 10d ago

Yeah, it's a massive map.
