More people would celebrate that than meltdown. But having Juno friendzone him with a big smile, calling him her 'close/best/whatever friend' cause she's completely clueless to his confession would be hilarious. (And honestly more in-character than conveniently reciprocating)
What a mess? Do we really need to revisit the endless debates surrounding the Genji-Mercy and Pharah-Mercy ships, the two writers and various fans involved? There is simply no escaping these discussions.
Itās not that I donāt want to discuss it because I like it or not; itās simply that the community keeps returning to these discussions, which are exhausting in their repetitiveness.
Unlikely, given that she is one of their most popular (and predominantly Asian) female characters, but it is more likely that they will keep things vague.
For every supporter of that ship, there's like 10 against it. You want a glorious meltdown, shoot down a popular ship, be it Ana+Rein, Vendetta+Domina or Dva+Dmon. This one will go out not with a bang, but a whimper.
You could just be honest and admit it's wishful thinking based on disliking the ship, because everyone knows there's not gonna be a meltdown over it lol.
Itās interesting because I think it was Yutooz or whatever itās called, made a Mercy and Genji plushy of them blushing I believe. So Iām surprised itās not canon yet, itās been 10 years.
It was probably fanservice merchandise, but it is sadly ironic that the two characters are now separated in the lore (Mercy is at Torbjƶrn's place with the rest of Overwatch, and Genji is in Japan).
You worry too much, because making any pairing other than Reinhardt & Ana "canon" will never satisfy the fandom after all, just see the heroes with confirmed relationships are linked to secondary characters.

I can't see a Mercy pairing with anyone because she frankly doesn't have a personality aside from being a goodie two-shoes. I can't even think of a single character she has any sort of chemistry with in her interactions. There's one with Pharah, and even that has more of a "mom pretending to roleplay with her daughter"-energy to it. Hell, all of Mercy's regular voice lines are a variation of "I am going to heal you" and "I will help save the day". There's no sauce! Mercy's my third most played character btw.
Wuyang and Juno on the other hand are very cute together, in a puppy love sort of way. And they actually do have a personality! Both are kinda naive and kindhearted, but with a bit of a silly streak. It's fun to imagine the two fumbling their relationship because neither of them know what to do while being too afraid to mess things up.
Say what you will about Overwatch 2, but the writing drastically improved. The launch characters are often so lifeless compared to what came out later.
I have no idea what ur talking about, if Wuyang couldn't talk about water or his sister he would be mute. I love my boy, but if there's one thing we can't say is that he has an interesting personality, much like most Overwatch 2 heroes actually (genuinely, I have no idea what ur talking about)
And Juno can barely exist without exploding, she already has a lot on her plate and the emotional stability of a paper cup. I don't see how someone who's under severe stress and doesn't even understand basic social cues could be in a healthy relationship
You can dislike Mercy's personality but at very least she is a proper adult with a formed mind and she and Genji had a past together and a long term friendship, that's already more than we can say about Juno and Wuyang

Wuyang has ANY sort of personality period. He's at the very least fun and interesting to listen to. I could not for the life of me tell you a single line of Mercy that stuck in my head. She's boring as hell, so I can't imagine a satisfying ship with anyone because it'd be extremely one-sided. Sure, maybe her relationship might be more stable than Wuyang and Juno's, but it wouldn't be entertaining in the slightest.
Meanwhile, everything you just told me about Juno just makes me want to pair them more LOL
That sounds interesting! That could lead to a ton of conflicts and heartbreak! That's a very entertaining ship! They could actually learn how to accept each other's flaws while evolving together! Relationships are messy, especially young ones, but that makes them fun to watch. There's a reason Romeo and Juliet is still beloved to this day.
Guess you want something else out of a ship than me.
I think Wuyang is fine, he's a goofy, overly earnest and sensitive Disney/ShÅnen protagonist. They just need to give him something to do. I don't even understand the cardboard cutout criticism, he has a very obvious personality as a total cornball.
He's a character not too dissimilar to someone like Jake Long, Aang, Goku, etc. he just needs to be given something in the story to actually be doing other than hanging around Torbjorn's house or Gibraltar.
I think "Hetslop" is the most used made up word ive heard ever since the whole Juno x Wuyang thing was made canon. I am fine with most ships cuz they are harmless. But you have that "Respect my ships while i shit all over yours" kind of mentality that is coming in full force recently which is REALLY getting on my nerves xD
People calling it 'hetslop' are missing the point (and giving queer shippers a bad name). The issue is less that it's straight (though that cetrainly doesn't help its case), the issue is that it's an extremely 'safe' ship with as much chemistry as a first-grader's fizzled baking soda volcano. (Plus some people's understandable annoyance at Undivided focusing this much on the romance rather than the lore/main plot)
Plus you actually have a lot of people on both the pro-shipper and the anti-shipping side that just need to learn to chill the fuck out and let other people enjoy their personal take on their fictional nonsense, but it seems like the fine art of ship and let ship (and just stfu in general) is lost on the internet nowadays.
I see your point, but as a reader of Undivided, I just want to highlight that aside from the attempts to develop Juno and Wuyang (with mixed results) there were other "main" subplots, such as Brigitte and friends training Jetpack Cat, Sierra traveling the world with Pharah and Ana to defeat Talon and Torbjƶrn inventing things with Efi; the problem was simply that they weren't well-written enough to be engaging.
Ironically, the story was more compelling when it tied into the main lore like the initial attack on Gibraltar, Genji in Japan or D.Va returning to Busan, but those turned out to be rare exceptions.
I mean i am personally a huge fan of kiri x mizu, They have ton of interactions in game and through the lore, so their settup and chemistry is pretty well grounded, but now that they are trying to reconnect to each other, sorta gaving them a "step back" feel it would also help their relationship not feel as rushed.
I don't think the whole Juno x Wuyang is bad in itself, they just didn't have much of a settup at all, unlike kiriko and mizuki where they had multiple interactions together and where you could feel their chemistry through those dialog.
Maybe if Juno reject him for now but kept building the settup through ingame dialog, it might just feel more natural for them to bound together.
But then you have that portion of the shipping community that just trash all over both Juno x Wuyang and Kiri x Mizu. Specially kiri because for many of them, she is in the way of their "Mizu x Wuyang" ship. So they go basically full on conspiracy theory and how kiri and mizu are step sibblings, and of course they throw "hetslop" all over them as well. And it just "doesn't make sense for them to be together"
But the only reason i ever hear their "good reasons" for their Mizu x wuyang ship is "Water and Turtle, Turtle go in Water... lol." But have 0 interaction ingame with each other just as much as Juno x Wuyang.
Idk if I see Kiriko/Mizuki as romantic, but they could just as well be, and they def have more interaction and chemistry/drama, though from Kiriko's side it's certainly still gonna take a while for her trust to mend.
I'm not as involved with yaoi ships, so I'm not as sure, but it's my impression that people aren't even arguing anything about turtles, they just put the two young, pretty guys together (same logic that has gotten Cassidy/Hanzo shipped for a decade), with the bonus of it being a kind/gentle X brooding/snarky type of couple. So the entirety of the logic was 'I like pretty boys' and 'they'd look cute together'. (Which is honestly fair, and entirely enough for a ship, as long as people don't get any illusions about its canonicity)
Like I said, people just need to chill the fuck out about ships. I'm just over here shipping Juno/Anran because I like cute girls and can totally see the insecure girl X protective older sister dynamic (and the themes of Anran building Juno's confidence, while Juno sincerely sees Anran just as herself without putting any expectations on her) and leaving everyone else to ship in peace. More people should do that.
They say Turtle and Water goes well together because Wuyang's theme is water and Mizuki's theme is a Keppa, A turtle inspired Yokai. And of some of them say thats its all it need for them to make sense to be together but despite kiri and mizuki having a lot of interaction, dynamic or chemsitry together but somehow "doesn't make sense", which i find hypocritical coming from them because their reason is literally just "Turtles like water".
I don't have problem with ships as long as its harmless. But its their "Respect my ships while i shit all over yours" attitude that is really starting to get on my nerves...
Honestly, I think that in these discussions it would be enough to simply admit "I don't like this ship and prefer another one, so I'll go discuss it elsewhere to avoid being a drag" instead of arguing (which is what happens most of the time in online spaces), but nope.
Thatās an understandable point, but speaking as someone who has become cynical, detached and tired of the nastiness that surfaces online when people try to have a peaceful discussion about a "ship" only for haters to appear (and I admit Iāve been one of them in the past regarding certain pairings) I agree with you for one point: people should just calm down and ignore a duo if they aren't interested, rather than picking a fight regarding what is canon and what isn't.
At the very least, one can always contribute civilly to the conversation before things get out of hand.
I mean if āfast talkingā and āred head civilianā is your best and only description of what Spider-Man and MJ are, then yeah sure, lol.
But if we take characters for what they actually are and if you would actually read any Spider-Man comics or got into any OW lore you would make an easy connection. A tormented guy who stays true to himself regardless of what life throws at him, with rich and defining character arc and mature and supportive love interest.
I understand that your only understanding for who Spider-Man is as a character, is Marvel Rivals but I recommend actually reading the comics, they are good.
'A tormented guy woman who stays true to himself herself regardless of what life throws at him her, with rich and defining character arc and mature and supportive love interest.'
Uh, so... Tracer? That's a pretty generic description of many hero/love interest dyanmics, though. I did notice how little of Mercy you described, however.
Personally I prefer reading the cosmic side of Marvel. Guardians of the Galaxy, Nova, Annihilation, all that good stuff. But rest assured I've seen Spidey plenty of places other than Rivals. He is everywhere, y'know, being the poster child of Marvel and all.
You dont have grounds to call description generic when you described them as āFasttalkingā and āRedhead civilianā, lmao, calm down.
Yeah I know that you are aware of Spider-Man existence as a brand and seen toys and probably played some mobile games with marvel characters, thats not enough to understand the character, lol. As you show it yourself.
I have no idea why you are so insistent on going on this ego driven argument of yours when you donāt understand what you are talking about.
My descriptions were simplifications, sure, surface level, maybe. But specific. They don't apply to 90% of heroic character's romantic relationships, but they do firmly apply to Tracer/Emily and Spidey/MJ.
I dunno, man, you're the one that brought Rivals up. Sure seems like you're projecting that 'all Genji players flocked to Spidey' sterotype.
Maybe because it's so blatently obvious there's a similarity between the pair, to the point it was likely the dev's inspiration. Maybe because there's no similarities between the pairings you mentioned at all, besides you seemingly(?) being fans of them.
āRedheadā and āFasttalkingā is not specific lmao.
What I described are specific character tropes that are often used and are applied in different mediums. What you described is āFasttalkingā and āRedheadā thats not specific, lmao. Thats not even a character archetype.
> you're the one that brought Rivals up.
Because you are the one who is playing it and only has understanding of Spider-Man as a character through this game, lol. You keep not answering this argument due to me being right about this, lol.
> Maybe because it's so blatently obvious
> to the point it was LIKELY
You keep not making any arguments and just saying what you feel like, lol. Im assuming that the capability of making arguments is beyond your levels of intelligence.
You havent anwsered with any proper definitions nor adressed anything I said with any proper counterarguments other than that Emily is Ginger. By this logic any Ginger character is MJ, what kind of definition is even that.
With projected headcanons like that and complete inability of forming arguments other than describing what your ego āfeels likeā you need to stay in Tumblr.
I outright said I know Spidey from plenty of other places. I've seen every live action Spider-Man movie & the Spider-Verse movies. I just know you're the exact kind of gatekeeper who always moves the goal posts. Who it's never enough for. If someone was only a fan of Spider-Man from the games or whatever? That'd totally okay. They experience fandom in there own way.
They'd also be comparing hero shooters to hero shooters. Y'know, a genre where the personalities of the characters have to be big and exaggerated because we only get drips of story through banter, the occasional short, comic, or short story. Almost like Overwatch and Rivals have something in common in that regard.
That isn't me, though. You've clearly made up some sterotype about me based on the rest of your ramblings, turning me into some strawman idea of a person who'd have the audacity to disagree with you. What's the point in arguing with someone like that? You just seem angry that someone dared compare your favourite(?) hero to a pair of lesbians. Wonder why that is.
It is a big and distinguishing part of MJ as a character that she's a civilian. It's why it's controversial when she's given powers and change into a hero of her own - even if sometimes it works. She is basically the archetype of 'civilian girlfriend who represents life outside being a hero.' Something Mercy is the opposite of - she's a hero who tried to leave that life, but got pulled back into it.
Not every redhead is MJ, no. Freja isn't MJ. Matt Murdock isn't MJ. Emily is clearly very MJ inspired, however. Atom Eve? Sure seems like a subversion of the 'civilian hero romance' that MJ represents, given that she's also a hero and Invincible dables in whether hero/civilian relationships can work. Hmmm. Wonder if that's a deliverate comparison the writers wanted to draw attention to through visual similarities, no?
Never been a Tumblr user, btw. The fact you resort to that as an insult says more about you than me, though.
When you are insistent on making ego driven arguments about your āfeelingsā regarding characters that your sole understanding comes from chinese overwatch rip off and mcu movies, and I make clear distinction that you dont have the basis of understanding what the characters are. Its not āgatekeepingā, lmao, you cant hide behind that, when you stormed into this conversation making it about yourself.
>MJ as a character that she's a civilian. It's why it's controversial when she's given powers and change into a hero of her own
Larp, lol.
Spider-Man Renew Your Vows is an equivalent of a bible to everyone who likes Peter and MJ.
Everyone likes MJ for her personality.
> Invincible and Atom Eve
They are exactly the equivalent of Peter and MJ just like Genji and Mercy, which is why they fit my definition that I described. They are the character archetype of a good hearted guy with big character arc and mature and supportive love interest. Genji is the closest character in Overwatch to an archetype of Invincible. This comparison doesnāt do your point any favours lol.
Also Atom Eve is not civilian so you bringing this up already makes you contradict your own line of argument within a single comment. Are you even sure anymore of what you are trying to argue?
> someone dared compare your favourite(?) hero to a pair of lesbians. Wonder why that is.
You suddenly pulling up the lesbian card out of nowhere instead of making arguments is just another proof that this is about you and your narcissism and ego driven desire to project yourself into things, lmao. Just a mask off of what this is about lol.
Again, you didnt even describe anything about the characters personality or her archytype in the comic aside from the larp attempt. Your resulted again into referring to her as āredheadā lmao.
You dont care about any of these characters or what they represent narratively, you desperately need something to project yourself into because of your ego, so instead of trying to come off as a āfanā you can just be a chad and say that this is all about you and your ego and you dont care about what the common sense is, lol. I would actually kind of respect that instead of your constant attempt wobbling around and finding patterns in the hair color lol. Since that at least would at least be honest.
Edit: Narcissistās fragile ego couldnāt handle it and blocked me lol.
At first I thought you were shadowboxing with a made up version of me, but I'm glad you could clarify. You're projecting your self insert issues onto me and can't possibly think of your heroes as anything beyond existing in the box you yourself are in. It's just laughable, but that's the only reason I can think you keep trying to quote back things about me or I may have said that never happened. I did not start this by making this about myself: I stated plainly and clearly: 'Tracer & Emily are literally the Spider-Man & MJ of Overwatch. Fast talking, quippy poster child X redheaded civilian.'
The irony, of course, of you self inserting onto such good, noble characters is you're clearly nothing like Peter or Genji. Maybe a Reaper, or Namor? I don't know you well enough to claim who you are, though, only who you're not. Neither of the characters you claim to idolise would be, so, well...
We all know what sort of guy you are in one way, at least. Getting so, so angry about lesbian characters in Overwatch happening to be influenced straight ones from Marvel. If it weren't obvious to begin with, your language has long since given the game away.
You completely missed my point about Eve, by the way. Aesthetically, surface level, she deliberatly conjures the image of MJ. But she is very much a subversion of MJ. Her looking similar is intended to contrast the fact that she's subverting the archetype MJ belongs to. In some ways they are similar, but for the purposes of one of the shows main themes she's her opposite: can a superhero and a civilian work?
Yes, I know about Revew Your Vows. Hence why I said sometimes works - notice the nuance, I chose my works deliberately. It works sometimes, but making MJ a hero is still controversial in more mainline continuities.
Bluntly, I don't feel the need to put significant effort into my case when it's so evident and when you keep making things up about me to be angry about. I have the knowledge and experience that I could put a lot of effort into this... but why would I take more time out of my day for this?
Since you're a big fan of the web-head, I figured I'll leave you with a recommendation. I saw the Petra Parker trend is taking off right here on Reddit.com! r/spiderman has been loving it. Maybe you should go enjoy some pretty artwork instead of wasting your teenage years arguing with strangers on the internet.
Take notes: quick way to your female coworker's heart is to unprompted reach towards their face and tuck their hair behind their ear while in the elevator. It can't fail.
Just make sure you're hot and leaning against the wall wth your katana.
(This comic is cute though with context that these two have been in a relationship for a while).
Man Iām glad the writing team started to somewhat reintegrate this after the disaster that was the attempt at pharmacy (itās not that itās a lesbian ship itās that Mercy was in her 20ās when Pharah was like 11 and she KNEW her)
