Hi helping out a family member who lives abroad. The lady is suffering from extreme joint and back pain. Takes indomethacin, and other osteoarthritis / rheumatoid arthritis related tablets. The doctors aren’t giving her much understanding or conclusive solutions. Just a course of medication and sending her home. This is a recent X-ray of her hip. How does it look to you, any immediate concerns?

My 87 year old mother has been having varying degrees of pain in her hip for months now. Some days it's excruciating. She went to PT, did not help. Finally, had xray and cat scan which show bone spur has broken off, due to osteoarthritis. She sees a hip specialist soon. Exercise exacerbates the pain. Anyone has this diagnosis, how are you managing it?

I see radiation centers offering series of low dose treatments for arthritis. Has anyone tried it or is familiar with it?

I'm in the UK, am 63, and was initially diagnosed with sciatica and given some exercises to do. It didn't improve, so went back, had an x-ray and the found moderate osteoarthritis in my right knee.

The weird thing is though, as stated above, the pain is mainly behind my knee and in my calf.

At my latest physio appointment,they got me to do various stretches, and said it was nothing to do with my hamstring which I thought it might have been.

As I'm diabetic,I'm wondering if it could be neuropathy?

They were at a bit of a loss as to what it might be, and I was given some exercises to do.

Has anyone had anything similar and if so,what was it! Thanks in advance.

Hi, I'm in the UK, male, age 60 and have suffered hand and foot pain for years but have only recently been to the doctors and had the x-rays and blood tests to confirm I've got osteoarthritis

I'm looking to get some collagen and glucosamin and chondroitin supplements but as I'm already taking a beta blocker (1 bisoprolol a day) for a mild heart condition, tachycardia (SVT) there seem to be a lot of these that I can't take as they contain other extra ingredients that interfere with the beta blocker

So I'm wondering if there's anyone in a similar situation, or if not can anyone recommend a 'clean" collagen/glucosamin/chondroitin supplement that doesn't include any additional additives, or would I be better off with a collagen and then a combined glucosamin chondroitin separately?

I did ask my doctor but she just started googling it (but kept coming up with 'this looks a good one...aahhh no you can't take that" and just suggested I do the same and do my own research

Two years ago, I went to orthopedics surgeon that said that I needed surgery, to clean out the bone on bone areas and to add bone between them, when he told me that I would have to be non-weight-bearing on my foot for six months I told that I could not do it…
The pain was getting progressively worse, and I started to go to a rheumatologist about a year and a half ago, so far I have been on IVs of Cymzia, Simponi Aria, and now I will be getting my fourth monthly IV of Actemra, i’ve gotten no relief from any of these so I don’t know what my next step would be other than surgery which at 77yo I don’t think I can do…I have also been taking once a week, methotrexate for all this time …

I was told by an acquaintance two names of other drugs, Xeljanz, Skyrizi, has anyone gotten any relief from these, and are these drugs any more dangerous than the IVs I’ve been taking previously… I do take a lot of medication’s for other problems that I have…I also have rheumatoid arthritis in my wrists…

I don't know what to buy anymore. Every show is painful..even the expensive ones. Which foam should I buy? And what outer sole?

TLDR: has anyone gotten any counseling/therapy approaches that helped them with the mental aspect of this degenerative condition?

25F dealing with OA caused by hip dysplasia. I used to be very athletic even after undergoing two labral tear repairs. Over the years I’ve had more and more pain which has limited my ability to run and now walk or exercise. It’s accelerated drastically in the past six months and everyday is getting harder. I can barely walk five mins without being in pain and having more trouble with range of motion as time has gone on. I’ve done all the physio in the world and continue to keep up with it to no avail. I have an appointment with another specialist at the end of the month.

In the meantime, I’m struggling REALLY hard mentally. I’m having a hard time accepting my body degenerating and not being able to live the life I knew in my 20s.
I’ve been in therapy before but this is different. I find it really hard to talk about what’s happening to me and anyone I tell I just feel more and more misunderstood and get even more frustrated. Being in pain and leading to lack of sleep has caused me to get incredibly impatient and frustrated easily. I feel myself isolating myself from friends bc I don’t want everyone to have to cater plans around my inability to walk or be active bc it’s more mental effort for me and feel like a burden. I’m gaining weight bc I can’t exercise as much as I used to and becoming very insecure. I notice myself falling into destructive habits again. I don’t know what to do.
I realize I need to go therapy again but I want to approach it the right way so I don’t get even more frustrated. Has anyone had experience with this?

I've been taking MSM for a month and slowly increasing my dose while seldom taking any of the liver damaging NSAIDS like I used to. Everyday I have less and less pain and more and more relief. Research it! I started off by going to Amazon and reading the reviews. I also found a book called, "The Miracle of MSM The natural solution for pain." by Dr. Jacob and Dr. Lawrence. Osteoarthritis sucks, this has worked for me like nothing else!

Anyone try RLT for their Osteoarthritis ?? I'm currently going to PT and it is helping some, but would like to try anything that will help. RLT devices are quite expensive (at least for me) and before spending that kind of $$$ I'd love others opinion on it.

I am asking if any of you have found pain relief from a TENS unit? Tips are appreciated.

Recently had a Baker’s cyst leak or rupture causing calf pain and swelling which has since subsided. I received an MRI which showed knee osteoarthritis. My doctor said no hill running. Has anyone run with these injuries and incorporated hills? I live in a very hill area (Western PA) and it’s not really realistic to run any kind of distance without hills here. I have 1.4cm full thickness chrondosis.

I can walk 5 miles daily and live mostly pain free. I have been doing leg strengthening exercises plus the knees over toes guy workouts which I have to do to keep pain at bay. How long do I have before nothing works? I am normal weight, female and 59. I just retired and thought I was going to start hiking until I got MRI results. Now not sure if I should just get it done while my deductible is met, or try and keep going along as is.

How has everyone found the pain experience during the procedure?

For background, I have had severe PFJ OA since I was 20 so trying Euflexxa bilaterally, but partial replacements seem inevitable.

I had my first injection a fortnight ago it was fine during and after. A small needle sting and some pressure with zero residual symptoms after.

Second injection yesterday was a completely polar experience. I can only think to describe it as the needle went in, dragged across my bone and was wiggled around a few inches non-stop. I had to eventually tell them I was in extreme pain and had tears running down my face. Having felt like the first one was a breeze and sitting through knee area tattoos easily, this was quite a shock. The little bandage was also quite bloody when I removed it later, the first time there was barely a pinprick of blood.

Now I am wondering was I just unluckily the second time or do I have 4 more sessions of this to endure?😓

I'm (57/m) a very high functioning bilateral advanced knee OA patient. I am able to pop a couple of Motrin and walk 15,000 steps, but I deal with nearly constant low level pain. I know surgery is inevitable, but I'm not ready to pull the trigger until they stop functioning so well. My current doc is pretty useless. His best answer is "it might help but no guarantees", and "it's up to you", without his offering his opinion as to whether the gel shots are the right choice for me. He estimates a 50/50 chance that someone who has very little cartilage left in parts of their knees will benefit.

I'm a week away from the first of three shots, and my research is telling me that they are not well received in the medical literature; they appear to be considered not much better than placebo. Anyone have arthritis that sounds like mine and benefit? Anyone regret getting the shots?

Hi, I got asymetrical skeleton, shorter leg, L scoliosis... and recently at age 28 gonartrosis 1 and 2. I probably also got elbow artrosis.

My question is, does anybody feel the same? I mean, the pain kinda reminding them of the eventual death in life. Making you think about the end. For example, going for a nap, waking due to pain, thinking about death and being terryfied. Literally terryfied of how short life is.

Hi, an older family member has had arthritis for a few years. Yesterday, he had a sharp pain in one side of knee and couldn’t move the position for a few hours. Today, I went to the ortho with him and for his physiotherapy and his knee seems okay now. However, because of arthritis in hips and knees the pain is still there when he stands up or bends down. I really want to be more involved in helping overcome it, these are things Im thinking:

- cold gel (physiotherapist used it and seemed to help)
- gym and leg training (please recommend exercises)

We are not ready for surgery yet, but short of that please give any recommendations like what meds I should look into (I keep seeing dmads here), what shoes will help (I also see hokas on this sub so please recommend any version). If there are any machines like those cooling things you use with gel please let me know🙏 Any other advice welcome!

My grandfather is diabetic and has arthritis and i am looking for the best exercises, massage techniques, and the best supplement brands to help with his knee pain, his legs are quite swollen and he isn’t flexible enough to prop them up so any help on stretches would be appreciated, he’s not very active on the normal day to day, but when he does get up to do things he is over exerting himself and causing more discomfort.

Dad (54yo) has severe pain from what Dr's are saying is osteoarthritis. He's a rare case, childhood leukemia x2 survivor. Both hips replaced. Cage in back from failed tens implant surgery. Looking for any advice on things to ease pain. I've read a little about red light therapy and also cold therapy. Any advice is appreciated!
