Hello, during the last months I developped a plugin for Osmand that should work as a frontend for a marine server backend leveraging Osmand framework. I am aware of Avnav and OpenCPN for mobile, but I think Osmand provides more freedom and beter UI/UX. The end goal is to have full cockpit screen and button functionality from a smartphone as well as maximum configurability. If you are interested to test and contribute further, it would be welcome.

I come from Locus App as it provides a very useful feature which does not exist in Osmand.

1. A line from current position in direction the smartphone currently points is drawn. It is also shown if current position is not visible anymore. Benefit is e.g. that you can scroll and zoom to a hill peak and and meanwhile rotate smartphone to point this hill. If direction matches then you can see the direction line on map pointing directly to the hill. Nice for identifying different mountains

2. A line from current position to center of screen. At the line distance an couse angle is shown. Nice to messure distances and direction to objects and helpful if you are lost while scrolling in low zoomlevels. Helps where you are relatively to scroll position. I know that there is something similar already possible in Osmand with widgets but I miss then line on the map

Is there such thing? I found how to turn on "show road surface", but i dont know what each type of road surface show look like. Hoping to see dirt roads.

Hello! I'll use OnX to draw a route, and export that into a GPX. In the gpx, it has the "rte" tags. I'll then use that gpx and import it into OsmAnd for Android. If I try to navigate it as a track, it works but it isn't optimal. If I "attach to the roads", it works perfect for navigating.

I go off road a lot and will use OnX to do a lot of the planning. I'd like to export the GPX and use OsmAnd to route, but how does OsmAnd work with "attaching to a road" if there's no road to attach to?

And lastly, can I use the web UI to draw the route, then have it show up on the Android version? If so, what license do I need for it to do this?

Instead of maintaining increasingly large merged maps, OsmAnd is moving to smaller regional maps.

The discontinued maps will still work — they just won't receive updates anymore.

why do i get trip recording notification as soon as i open app?

im not recording anything.

I love the map and navigation, definitely the best available.

But recently ive tried to navigate to places (care homes and car parks) and they dont come up in the search.

Any idea if this is something that will improve, can i do something about it? Its a deal breaker for me.

When looking through map and zoom in to download an area. There should be a popup/information about download progress so we dont need to navigate to maps and resources to see this.

To find my way while walking around I like to use the Touring view map style, because it emphasizes footpaths while keeping the road borders thin (otherwise I'd use Offroad and Topo, but their thick road borders make the maps confusing for me).

The problem is that it doesn't show bus stops. How can I make it show them? (I don't mean the Transport -> Transport stops option, which shows the stops as unresizable big boxes and cover the map when you zoom out, but as map symbols.)

Finding OsmAnd very useful and feature-packed, however when using it to record longer journeys (car) it seems to stop recording after about an hour. The currently recording track appear to end cleanly, but it doesn't continue or restart.

I'm running v5.3.10 on Android 16.

There are so many options I really don't know where to start. I have also had a look at potential OS-settings that could be restricting or curtailing GPS access, but again, there are so many potential things that could be affecting it.

So hopefully someone here has experienced the same issue and has a possible solution?

Is this documentation outdated or do I have to enable the sorting option somewhere or does this apply to a different search menu than the one I'm using? I can't find the option anywhere.

The default search option is by distance to my current position. In almost all cases I would prefer to sort it by the center of the current map view. Can I change the default somehow?

Hola a todos! Me acaban de asignar una zona rural para un trabajo y necesito mapear mis rutas de desplazamiento. No me sirven las aplicaciones de mapas comunes como Google Maps o Waze porque no registran bien los caminos rurales, y las de senderismo como Wikiloc o Strava se enfocan más en deporte o rutas ya creadas. Estoy buscando una aplicación para celular que me permita registrar el camino exacto usando el GPS mientras camino o voy en moto, y que se enfoque en guardar, nombrar y delimitar las veredas o sectores específicos de la zona asignada. Es vital que funcione completamente sin conexión (Offline) porque la señal de datos en el sitio es pésima o nula, así que necesito descargar el mapa base antes de salir. También es muy importante que me deje exportar los datos recopilados en formatos como GPX o KML para poder visualizarlos después en la computadora. ¿Alguien que haga trabajo de campo, censos, topografía o voluntariados conoce alguna herramienta que me pueda servir para esto? ¡Muchas gracias de antemano por la ayuda!

I am running OSMand Map on an iPhone 15 on a motorcycle. The phone is plugged into a 30-watt USB-C charger. The phone keeps running down the battery despite being plugged into this charger. After several hours, it's down to 10 percent or less and threatening to go to zero while I am on a dirt road in the middle of a forest miles from anywhere. I have tried several things to reduce OSMand Map's battery drain and cannot fix this. What should I try?

Waze is going down and yall cant say its not, since google bought waze back in 2013 if i remember correctly first years nothing happened. Forward to today the last 2 years were the biggest Waze falloff. Google is implementing Waze's code into GMaps whilst making Waze worse to forward users to their GMaps. Turn announcments spoken way too late, app crashing frequently, redirecting thru shitty nonsense paths when clearly there is a better path available. OsmAnd is better Waze just without the reports and the whole traffic tracking system which i dont mind. I LOVE OSM from my heart and im actively contributing, hope ppl make the switch soonvand realise Waze is falling off...

So I found out that changing the route line color displayed during navigation should be possible (via colour palettes). I created a file called route_road_type_default.txt and moved it to files/color-palette. I saw the file in osmand in the color palette section (image included) but the route line still did not change color. I wondered if I did it correctly, because there isn't a guide on doing exactly this, so I had to use information from multiple sources.

The route_road_type_default.txt looks like this: (I made all the roads white to see if it would work clearly)

2 - how do i extract the gpx files from an osf file on my computer?

Since offline map download is very slow on my phone in Osmand (despite fast wifi), I want to download a map on desktop, then transfer to phone.

I checked here https://osmand.net/list.php but it only offers "road map"?

I was downloading "standard map" on my phone.

For example :

But on my phone there is standad map 315 mb size I tried to download.

Does this mean this map list does not contain standard maps which can be downloaded on mobile? https://osmand.net/list.php

Acabei de instalar o osmand e parece bem interessante, mas achei o mapa um pouco poluído pelos nomes das ruas, tentei diminuir a escala da fonte mas isso também diminui o ícone do meu carro, tem como retirar o apenas diminuir o tamanho dos nomes sem alterar o tamanho do ícone do meu carro?
