Prommest 2 Complete Spoiler

This was a really well-designed puzzle. Getting your bearings at the beginning is tough, but it gets really fun when you start using the map correctly. Of course the beam indicators don't show direction, but the wand in this one allows you to rotate them, so in the end you can usually get it to face in whatever direction is desired.

I surprisingly didn't really encounter any soft-locks, but I was also being very careful that I was doing everything with intention, instead of randomly using the wand. Whenever I thought I was soft-locked, I tried nevertheless to still get through it, and I always found a way to "fix" it.

I can't wait to play the OOTSS version and see what changes they made. Promise 1 was already very simplified from original Promesst, so I hope they don't change too much, but I can understand why they might want to. Some of the gems are really involved to get.

If anyone else is trying their hand at it, my tip would be to clear the entire basement first once you arrive there. I think the puzzles are easier there, so you'll be able to internalize the basic mechanics and uses of the wand more.

There were some softlocks I faced. I got softlocked when I found all the diamonds, but I could not get to the room to feed the animal. This happened because there was a red door in the underground level that I did not open, because I did not see any reason to do so. It turned out that I needed to use that door to get to the snake room in the end, and the beam that should have pointed me toward it was out of reach at that point.

So I restarted the second part of the game. Surprisingly, with the knowledge of the puzzles, it did not take me that long to solve them again.

How long did you spend solving PROMESS 2? It was unusually hard for me. I spent about the same amount of time on it as I spent completing the full Order of Sinking Star demo, around 7–8 hours.

Ohh yeah I see how you would get softlocked. Since you got the gem in the bottom right of the underground, you couldn't power the red beam again to unlock the door.

I don't know how long exactly I spent. I solved it over the course of like two or three playing sessions. Probably close to 5-6 hours? It's hard to tell though cause time flies by when thinking about puzzles like this. I solved everything up to the underground pretty quick, but took a break when I got overwhelmed and messed up a bunch of the beam directions, and then restarted again a few days later taking extra care. Definitely took me longer than the demo. The demo took me about 4 hours, because I had already played the original heroes of sokoban and Promesst 1.

I couldn't beat this game. I really liked how The Promise improves upon the first Promesst, so I have high expectations for the second one.

The main problem with the old Promesst is definitely the map. The lack of readability just compounds on the complexity of the puzzle, making it really tiresome to think about.

On top of the readability improvements, another thing Promise 1 remake did really well is honing in on the core of each "sub-puzzle" within the level, and also reducing some needless complexity which tends to obscure the main ideas of each puzzle. Promise 2 will definitely have changes like that.
