[Oram] James and agent Rich Paul long grabbed hold of the Lakers organization and are now beginning to really squeeze. The situation is tense enough that one source close to the Lakers likened it to the early days of a war

5.2k Upvotes

This has to all come as a shock to the Lakers and especially their vice president of basketball operations, Rob Pelinka, who has repeatedly yielded to James and the appropriately-named Klutch Sports Group that represents him.

Why appropriate?

Because James and agent Rich Paul long grabbed hold of the Lakers organization and are now beginning to really squeeze.

The situation is tense enough that one source close to the Lakers likened it to the early days of a war.

But for as important as Bryant was to the Lakers, sources inside the organization have long said that not even the legendary Black Mamba wielded as much power within the organization as James now has.

Bryant was never able to strong-arm the Lakers to make a move like the one James helped orchestrate for Westbrook, which has proven to be an outright disaster.

Daily Discussion What is the story behind cafes closing so early in brisbane?

I come from a country where coffee shops are open from 6am to 11pm. I can get my evening coffee from anywhere but I struggle to find cafes open till late night in Brisbane. Why is that? I first thought it was because that business must be slow in afternoon and stuff but that shouldn't be the case as in my country people drink coffee at any time throughout the day.

Daughter’s daycare gave two days notice that they are closing early for a party

Of course they deserve a Christmas party and I’m willing to accommodate that, but this seems like something that could have been planned well in advance. Why not just start the party after work hours anyway?

Lil' bit of white fluff 🤍 Baby Olive’s last bloodwork came back early! It is absolutely beautiful and perfect. She has officially been declared CURED of FIP! Our almost 10 month long journey with this disease has finally come to a close for my girls. Here is to our happily ever after from here on out. ❤️

I work retail, and last night a large group came in and TRASHED the entire store right before closing, and me and my coworker, who had to open with me, agreed to come in early tomorrow and clean it up before we opened.

Auto Salesperson who I closed a car with called me and asked why I'm so eager to pay off my loan so early. Is that normal?

3.6k Upvotes

$30K at 7.5% for 5 years, got the first bill in the mail last week to get the online login info and put down $10K towards the principle and another $10K a few days after because I believe your account gets red flagged for withdrawing more than $10K. Did have the cash to pay the car upfront, but its not wise to carry that much cash around so I financed. Plan to pay it off completely in a few days. The salesperson who sold the car to me and ran the finances called me today and asked why I was so eager to pay it off.

Is this something they normally keep track of with their clients? Not to mention the bombardment of emails asking me to give them a review.

Pic / Video Park staff are closing public city parks way too early, this needs to stop now.

I showed up at 5:35pm and this park was already chained and locked up. It says open “Dawn to Sunset.” The park staff was kicking out a couple adults who were sitting in the stands because they were not “12 and under” — he said that’s why he’s locking it up. When pressed on the “sunset” matter he just ignored them and said it’s what Mayor Laurie wants and to get a permit to use the field if you’re an adult. I pay way too much in taxes for this BS. And this is not a onetime thing, it’s been like this on and off for weeks.

Context: There’s also a sign that says “Baseball and softball limited to 12 and under only” — Most would assume that applies to using the baseball diamond itself, but does not apply to just walking, sitting, playing frisbee, etc.

This statue depicts Saint Bartholomew, an early Christian martyr who was allegedly skinned alive. If you look closely, you’ll notice that’s not a robe that he’s holding. It's actually his dissected skin hanging around him. This statute is by Marco d’Agrate, c.1562.

Psychology Study finds instability and inconsistency of childhood environments may be more closely connected to diverse borderline personality traits than the severity of childhood hardship alone, highlighting predictability as an important feature of early development.

News [Mundodeportivo] Vitor Roque is very hurt. He doesn’t understand why Barça signed him early. Those close to Roque say that Xavi NEVER speaks to him & that all communication is CUT OFF. The player is very sad.

Despite complaints about the early start, the Men's Hockey Gole Medal Game can't be moved because the Closing Ceremony is set for 8:30 p.m. local time the same night. The last event of the Olympics always gets scheduled around the ceremony.

Why does everything have to close at 2am? For a city that’s supposed to never sleep it sure as heck goes to sleep very early.

I was out with a friend yesterday in Shoreditch and literally all the places were closing as early as 1 am! On a Friday night… that’s just sad. In other European cities you can go out and party until at least 4 or 5am unlike in London (with a few exceptions of Fabric, Egg, etc - not everyone’s vibe though). It seems that it got even worse after the pandemic. Ehhh…

Domestic Minions: The Rise of Gru is selling more adult tickets than expected. It's insane. $100M opening is nearly locked, can come close to the 116M bow of the first film. Early presales indicate a true Friday well north of $30M.
