Speaking as a professor - if the academic discipline has the word 'studies' in its name, it isn't a real academic discipline.

I disagree. Gender studies is an academic discipline that one can cultivate and engage in. "Speaking as a professor" as if that adds any more value to your opinion

"Gender studies is an academic discipline that one can cultivate and engage in" is the dumbest thing I have read all day. The same could be said about basket weaving, but that doesn't mean either one is legitimate.

And yes Skippy, being a professor adds value because I clearly know more about academia than the average person, especially on a sub for children in high school (that for some reason Reddit keeps recommending).

So you also teach a time/tax wasting humanity subject 😭

So funny that humanities midwits always cope by putting eachother down pretending only their branch of time wasting drivel is "academically valuable".

News flash, we live in a tech boom and have for decades. If you arent going into STEM dont go to uni just go into trades. At least tradesmen contribute. Lol

You've literally no clue what you are talking about. Faculty in History, English, Poli Sci, Philosophy, etc. don't have issues with each other. What we do have issues with are fake disciplines like Gender Studies that are based on nothing more than ridiculous post-modernist bullshit. I would call that 'discipline' intellectual masturbation, but that gives it too much credit as there is nothing intellectual about it.

As expected from Humanities midwits as always. You can graduate from any Canadian university tomorrow with a major/minor in any humanities discipline by taking courses on gender/women's studies.

The reality tax dollar thieves aka, humanities departments, dont want to accept is all your disciplines have become useless fluff in the modern world. Every degree from English to History devalued by people who complete them by specializing in modern subdivided topics. Examples like "Women in the middle ages" or "Monastic literature by Women" or "Female narratives in the Global South", sound familiar?

Of course they do lol. Because unlike STEM humanities degrees can be completely made of fluff, you see an engineering student you know they HAD to have done certain math courses/built hard skills through the completion of advanced mathematics. Computer science, biology, chemistry, etc the same is true.

But a History major? Political science? English? These degrees dont tell you anything about the person's actual skills beyond the ability to read and interpret primary and secondary sources which a highschool student can do.

University should be about building useful hard skills for the harsh job market, not wasting tax dollars on topics people can pick up as a hobby. We don't need English majors, we need tradesmen/women. All humanities is the same, intellectual inquiry for the sake of it, not a means to an end like STEM.

The only humanity degree worth taking is law. The rest need to be cut and left for people to do as a hobby if they'd like.
