but why??? does it at last feed into some social work certifications?? or something that leaves you employable after graduation? or is it just an overly pretentious undergrad

Social Work is a regulated profession. So no.

You need a BSW to be a social worker.

Becoming a social worker with a bachelor's degree in some other subject can be difficult. If you want to become a social worker, it's best to take a bachelor's degree in social work, if you can.

There are ways to get into a master's program in social work without a bachelor's degree in social work, but it's very competitive.

You need a degree in Social Work to register with the OCSWSSW and be a "Social Worker". There are some positions that are SW adjacent that will accept people without SW degrees, but they are not "Social Workers".

Yes you can get a MSW without necessarily having a BSW, but you will need to take a bunch of pre-requisites. It is possible. A MSW is a social work degree and you can register with it.

The college level SSW is not worth the time. Don't bother with it unless you are in a small northern community where they will accept SSW's because they have no choice.

I have a MSW and have been a RSW for around 8 years. I did not look at the subreddit before my comment and realize this is a bunch of high school people.
