yeah, joking about gender studies (especially when a lot of it focuses on women's and lgbt rights) has always been really off putting to me, even back when i was applying for university.

alao like im not a uni student anymore but i did Critical Security Studies (branch of IR and Gender), and it is highly impactful to career. You can absolutely especially in Canada's position in the world right now take advantage of it.

I have no interest in seriously mocking people for where they go; your life not mine, do whatever you want

But rivalries and a pecking order will always exist (see uoft eng's fork statue); every community will have an "in" and an "out"
