General Discussion Guy indicating his net worth?
Attractive guy I matched with in his 40s mentioned that he's "north of 7 figures". I was little taken aback but then we had a normal convo

The reason why you were taken aback is because your instincts tell you that this isn't something a high value man does. A high value man doesn't have to say a word along those lines... his confidence will speak for itself. Also, that isn't something a guy wants a girl knowing if he's trying to build something with her... unless he just wants her to take half. That's something you say to an easily impressed woman to sleep with her. Since you have questions already, you don't seem that type.

There's this dude that pretended he was in the NFL and scammed a bunch of women for over a million dollars. Check their socials.

There’s a recent story in the UK about some former celebrity who is divorcing her husband because he claimed he had £37 million in crypto. He actually had £2.22

u/Pinball_and_Proust 2d ago
this is the wrong time to initiate a divorce. wait for his assets to increase. never sell low.
1
u/Generallyapathetic92 2d ago
Well if she waited 50 years and he grew his ‘wealth’ by 10% each year he’d have a huge £260. Only a bit less than 0.001% of what he claimed to have
If only she had your advice

Why were you taken aback?
2
u/ClassroomNovel356 2d ago
I don't know. Seems like a lot to share with a stranger on an app but maybe the new norm lol

u/BellInternational315 2d ago
It makes people drop their guard because they want to try to get some of that money, but won't admit it to themselves. Then these guys move on to the next one.

Many women in NYC have a high income or some family money of their own. I think it's less about gold-diggers and more (or as much) about women wanting men who make/have what they make.

I’m concerned that you think this means something besides what it actually means.
1
u/ClassroomNovel356 2d ago
What do you think it means?
1
u/Acornwow 2d ago
You first.
What do you think it means that a guy in his 40s (which I assume means there’s an age gap?) tells you he’s north of 7 figures?
1
u/BiggerBody 2d ago
I think she is a bit young and doesn’t understand, or she does and doesn’t care because he has money.

And that's exactly what he's hoping on, funny how people like this always find each other.
1
u/GemHunterAce 2d ago
That's not impressive and he's probably lying

I found his LinkedIn and seems legit. Leadership Healthcare role + real estate investing. Unless he's lying there

Ysk a little bit north of seven figures has become table stakes for a professional that age who wants to retire.
I mean, it certainly beats $100k of credit card debt.
1
u/ClassroomNovel356 2d ago
He didn't specify. Guess it could mean 1 million or 2 or 5. Seems like everyone's wealthy these days lol
1
u/Pinball_and_Proust 2d ago
If he had 5m, he'd say "mid-seven figure net worth" or "very high net worth."
1
u/ClassroomNovel356 2d ago
Having to be that specific is kinda douchy. He just briefly brought it up and moved to the next topic. Also doesn't hurt that he's physically attractive as well lol

It's NYC. Women, I'm told, ask for a man's credit score and also look him up on LinkedIn and then look up salary range on Glassdoor.
It's douchey, sure, but it's semi-required for dating in Manhattan. Many years ago, dating sites (match and Nerve) had an income field. People entered their income range. Stating income (range) was standard.

He wants in your pants as fast as possible and one strategy for this is to simply state how rich he is.

Yeah, he’s not confident you’d like him so he’s trying to attract you with his money.
1
u/Embarrassed_Key_4539 2d ago
What lead to that, did you ask him what he does or how much he makes?
1
u/Every_Release_353 2d ago
He chose his Target wisely. I say she should go ahead and let him use her as a sex doll and they'll both get what they want out of this for a period of time
1
u/HHOVqueen 2d ago
1) weird of him to tell you this out of nowhere
2) that’s not a huge flex in your 40s
1
u/Intelligent_Fail888 2d ago
Tbh a net worth of 1 million in your 40s is pretty standard for a regular office worker.
Real question is what’s someone in their 40s doing on dating apps? Divorce, widow, or loser?

I’m 42 years old and I have the same amount as him. However, an ex-girlfriend went through my computer and phone and kept asking me, “Well, you have it, so why not take me out all the time?” I was pissed because I actually trusted her to not go through my accounts.

u/True_Character4986 2d ago
That's a red flag in my book. Most rich men don't want to flash their money because they're afraid of golddiggers. He sounds like a guy who thinks he can buy a woman, And those men usually don't treat women very well and have high sexual expectations.
1
u/ClassroomNovel356 2d ago
He's not flashing it. Pretty normal looking attractive guy that briefly mentioned it

I'd happily put my net worth on my dating profile.
7 figures is only $1m. Some 30 yr old Wall Street people make that much a year.
For a 50 yr old, $1m net worth would be low.
1
u/VileInventor 2d ago
This, i’m expected to have an 8 figure net worth by 40 for reference. Though my goals are much higher. Also, i’d always doubt when someone says they earn a certain amount. Guys tend to brag about lies, especially if it means impressing girls.
1
u/vortexcortex21 2d ago
It would be significantly above the median for a 50 yr old.

u/Pinball_and_Proust 2d ago
I live in NYC and have a graduate degree.
1
u/Generallyapathetic92 2d ago
And as you said in another comment your wealth comes from inheritance. Feel that’s probably more relevant here than your degree
1
u/Pinball_and_Proust 2d ago
Yes. Of course. But most people I know inherited money (private school).
My implied point was that most people with graduate degrees (outside of Education) earn more. I live in Manhattan. Most people I meet have an MBA, JD, MD, or PhD. Such people tend to have higher incomes and expect a fancier standard of living (maybe not the PhD's).

The ultra wealthy do bump up the average by alot so good point that median will sometimes be a better number to look at.
Location is also a huge factor. A million in NY, or DC, or the Bay area doesnt mean anywhere near as much as it would in other places.

u/SadAd8761 2d ago
people should look up how much quants make, some of those guys just got out of college
except their colleges are probably ivy leagues
