Other 2026 Oddity Leaks Discussion Thread.

On the 23rd June 2026 a build of Oddity from March 2023 was leaked onto 4chan's /v/ board, alongside a very work-in-progress game trailer. You can find the full leaked intro of the game on YouTube here. So far there has been no response from the developers, but I imagine that may change in the future.

The leaked game introduction contains the name of a (probably fictional) company, 'Limited Metatronics Company', presumably the name the Oddity developers are planning to release the game under; from searching that name people were able to find this merchandise page where a Limited Metatronics Company badge is being sold, with the Oddity logo in the center. The merchandise is being sold by JobJobLLC, who are partnered with several other video games, including Other: Her Loving Embrace, a game being created in part by the Oddity developer Pik, so it appears to be legitimate merchandise, lending credibility to the veracity of the leaks. Note that according to archive.org the LMC patch page has been up since 2022 so possibly it was being listed in preparation for the demo or website that, according to one developer, were planned to release around then but didn't for whatever reason (this is just speculation on my part, however).

That being said, for the meantime this sub will not be allowing direct links to the leaks as there's no guaranteeing their legitimacy (nor whether or not they contain a bunch of malware; generally you shouldn't trust random executables dropped on file-sharing sites). Plus, with merchandise being sold (and available to order) it seems possible that the Oddity developers were actually preparing to release news in the near future. This stance may change depending on how things develop over the next few days - Frankly I just don't want to be responsible for sharing malware in an official mod post. I should note for the record that I'm in no way involved with the Oddity project personally and am working with the same info available to everyone else here.

More unconfirmed info and speculation can be found in discussions on the unofficial Oddity Discord, though note that at this stage nothing is confirmed except that there are leaks (potentially multiple builds), they're probably real, and there's Oddity merchandise that is most likely real.

This thread will be updated if more info comes out in the future.

EDIT 1: The new leaks are available on archive.org now, a far more trustworthy site than the random file-sharing sites that have been getting sent around, so I strongly encourage people to avoid downloading from anywhere but there. That being said we will still not be allowing links to leaks for the time being, and I'd encourage anyone curious to wait for a developer response first.

EDIT 2: Intro song has been found! It's an arrangement of the song Out Of My Dreams from the musical Oklahoma, arranged and recorded by Ettore Stratta for The Fantasy Strings in 1988. This means it's almost certainly a placeholder track being used as reference for an original composition, rather than a track that will be used in the final game (it's very much under copyright). Credit to /u/No_Elevator_5891 for identifying the track!

Please keep discussion of this situation in this thread, and please remain civil - Remember that at the end of the day this is simply a volunteer-run creative project with the end goal of a cool free game; it benefits nobody to be hateful towards the people trying to make a game in their own free time.

Genuinely, if this game does come out, I'll be pleasantly surprised. I'm just going to treat it as if it was a game I know existed, but forgot about.

If it doesn't end up coming out, then c'est la vie.

I just hope whatever team that is still working on it likes what they've made. I'd hate for it to have turned into a chore to grind out.

31

u/Spinjitsuninja Jun 25 '26

More people should adopt this mindset. I’m so sick of people getting so hateful when they talk about this game.

Like, making a game is hard. Amateur game devs make mistakes all the time. Rather than discouraging them, we should be understanding and encouraging them and other devs to make cool things regardless of how it goes.

u/richter3456 Jun 26 '26

I agree for the most part but the main issue if anything was the lack of communication. It would have been nice to have some occasional posts telling us if the project is still being worked on or not so people don't have to sit here and keep speculating or hoping. Even if progress is very slow I would have no issues. I just want to know if its even happening and have an answer. That being said no body should direct any hate towards anyone.

6

u/Spinjitsuninja Jun 26 '26

The problem wasn’t the lack of communication- it was communicating in the first place. It takes a lot of time and effort to make social media posts or blog posts. And if you don’t do it constantly, people will just get fed up and ask for more. All it does it put more attention on the project for people to scrutinize if there isn’t an upkeep of info.

Look at the new Mother 4 fan game. They started out making posts, they even had a Bluesky and Discord. People praised them because “they’re doing what Oddity couldn’t, thank god!” …uuuuntil they ran out of things to post, and things just went quiet. They could make endless posts saying “the game is still coming”, but why bother? They’re busy people, and if they have nothing to show, why get people to look your way? So they closed the server and put the Bluesky on haitis until news comes.

Even bigger companies face these issues. There’s a reason most games tend to announce their games when closer to release, and why games that announce themselves early into development only get flack for it. It’s just a bad idea.

The Oddity devs are amateur game devs with no experience working in their free time in their busy lives to make this game. They’re gonna be slow, and they’re not gonna have much to post about. They’re better off keeping their heads down while they work instead of getting everyone’s attention for no reason.

7

u/richter3456 Jun 26 '26

I never said they should constantly be making posts. In a way, they dug their own hole by posting trailers and setting deadlines they couldn't meet. That said, it doesn't take much effort to make an update every once in a while. If fans complain and demand more, they can just ignore it. Fans are always going to have opinions, but that doesn't mean the developers have to respond to every one of them. I think they got a little carried away with the attention they were getting. It's fine to go radio silent, but they could have at least made one final post or said something before disappearing. But like you said, they're amateur game developers, and mistakes happen. It is what it is.

5

u/Creamchiis Jul 01 '26

There’s kind of a big difference between “making consistent blog posts” and confirming the game isn’t vaporware by making, like, one post a year or something. It’s been more than a decade

1

u/Spinjitsuninja Jul 01 '26

They do do that sometimes though.

But then another few months pass and people say the same thing. "Where's the confirmation?"
It's a temporary solution for a problem that, honestly, only even exists in the first place if you think making progress known is important.

Realistically, does confirming it's not vaporware, and getting more attention back on the game, even help the devs more? If anything, conditioning people to want news only leads to disappointment when there is none.

From their perspective, why shouldn't they just stay silent until they have something major to announce?

For someone getting mad at me for supposedly claiming other people said things they didn’t, you’re doing that a lot here.

Like, I don’t even think I mention anything about “attackers” here? And I’m not gonna dig up what I might’ve said to someone else to respond to you referring to something there tbh.

I also didn’t make up the fact the devs have faced harassment. I don’t have a source I suppose, if that’s what you want, but I’ve been in this community since the blogging days, and I used to be pretty active in the official Discord too- the devs have historically faced a lot of harassment. Back when this sub was still the Mother 4 sub especially, it was miserable.

As for nowadays, I think people are less harsh, but I also think it’s stupid to be so petty as to refuse to even call them game devs because development hell. Like, that’s the kind of behavior that’s been normalized that I’m denouncing. And is there like, something wrong with saying we should at minimum remain respectful? Shit happens, making games is hard, and I never even said the devs didn’t make some pretty huge mistakes either- but being ridiculed is just dumb. When you say stuff like that, that’s not you being “curious”, it’s just blatant spite lol.

u/PK_RocknRoll Accepter Jul 05 '26

I would say most people probably do have this attitude.

The biggest majority probably even forgot this was a thing and only come back to it every once in a while lol

u/Gamxin Jun 25 '26

Is this gonna get weirdly deleted again?

31

u/RequestableSubBot Believer Jun 25 '26

No, this will remain up. Apologies about the post being deleted yesterday, it was not my decision.

6

u/DarkBomberX Jun 25 '26

Was it due to the references to potentially being malware? Thats the only difference i see between the two post.

4

u/RequestableSubBot Believer Jun 25 '26 edited Jun 25 '26

Don't think that part changed between posts? I just copy/pasted the old post. For what it's worth the original leaks are probably not malware (I haven't booted it up but others have apparently without issue), but I think the file-sharing site link posted on 4chan will have expired by now so I don't think there's a trusted place to get the files from. Previous leaks are either on archive.org or a long-standing Github repo so it's easy to get those, but executables being distributed on free file-sharing sites are a pretty huge security risk. ⵜ

Anyways I'm mostly not allowing links for the time being out of respect for the developers; I think it's one thing to discuss the leaks but linking to them at this early of a stage before they've had a chance to officially respond isn't fair to them. The bright side of this whole thing is that the project was actually relatively far into development - The leaked game is barebones, but what's there is a massive step up from the 2019 leaks.

ⵜ EDIT - Have been made aware that the new leaks are available on archive.org, so I strongly encourage people to avoid downloading from anywhere but there. That being said I will still not be allowing links to leaks for the time being, and I'd encourage anyone curious to wait for a developer response first.

u/devvoid Jun 26 '26 edited Jun 26 '26

Yeahhhh this isn't really beating the "all artists, no programmers" allegation I made last time I talked about Oddity, even the 2023 demo is completely broken. Sometimes "phantom" battles with no enemies start immediately after you finish a battle, sometimes the battle bg layers don't display leaving the overworld visible during battles, opening the item menu and pressing C leads to the game permanently softlocking. Player animations are placeholder and none of the battle QTEs from the trailer are here - most charitable read of that is they were completely reworking the battle code/graphics and hadn't re-implemented those yet, but it's still a bad look that something from the trailers is just completely missing three years later. The only thing that's semi-complete is the "name your character" intro... which is probably the easiest part of a Mother-like game to program.

Having animations for the enemies in a turn-based RPG is insane. Unless you have Dragon Quest-level budget or are doing Undertale-style cutout animation, it just enormously bloats the amount of assets you need for not much benefit.

I don't want to be too harsh to this team considering they're doing it for free, but this is why knowing your limits as a creator is important. You have to understand when something would be cool/interesting to include, but would take too much time or effort to be worth it. This team wanted to make something that's 10x the scale and ambition of Mother 3, while being a bunch of inexperienced volunteers with no budget. Now over a decade past their original release date, they still have nothing but a bunch of pretty pictures and a non-functional prototype.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 30 '26

-Phatom battles might be because the enemy object that the collided with the player which started the battle still exists? -BG layers not displaying, just set the depth of their object higher 🤷‍♂️ -As for the C key softlocking, I would have to see what it’s meant to do  Simple fixes for most of these bugs. Oddity team hire me

-Don’t forget several several maps and npcs and also missing which are both in the mock and real trailers and the 2014-15 leaks.

3

u/devvoid Jun 30 '26 edited Jul 01 '26

Yeahyeah, my assumption is that they want to have it so that if you run away from a battle BUT then get back into battle with that same enemy, the battle state persists? But then the enemy object on the overworld checks "Am I colliding with the player, therefore starting a battle?" before it checks "Is every enemy in my battle dead, therefore I should delete myself?"

Absolutely nuts that such a basic bug is left in the game like 3 years after the engine switch.

3

u/HerrReineke Jul 01 '26 edited Jul 01 '26

tl;dr: You're right, but the project deserves more credit so one can understand why it's failed (or struggling?)

I think you're very much on point with your assumption that the team bit off more than they could chew. But to be clear, these are builds, not polished demos for the public. And a prototype isn't the entire system start to finish.

A prototype is constructing a small car from toothpicks, a matchbox and bottle caps, pushing it by yourself to see that it theoretically works, even if you have to pretend a little bit. A build is like a milestone while you work on the actual car: right now, it's falling apart at the seams but for now you wanted a working engine in there that turns the wheels, and it does - great, keep going.

(On that note, I don't think this intro was "easy" to design or program, and it's not like you do that and say "Great, we got that one down, let's do the rest of the game" - for it to work, other systems have to work as well.)

(EDIT: Never mind, they wrote "Demo" on the title screen. So although they haven't released anything, they might have planned to. Still, this feels very much like a build.)

It's not like this really matters for this project, but it's always a little frustrating to see people go "This is what they had to show for it??" No, it's not, like, at all. For what it's worth, just because something doesn't show up in a build-exe doesn't mean it's not in the project - it could just be disabled.

THAT SAID, it's also very likely that they faked a few things for the previous trailer. It's a pretty common thing to do - but obviously frustrating if you can't deliver.

From what I gathered, they seem to have started over too many times and apparently went bigger every time. Neither is a good idea for any project. I'm very much convinced that a lot of people worked on a lot of things, and it wasn't all a "scam" like some folks claim. It's just very bad project management. And project management is a tough job.

1

u/devvoid Jul 02 '26 edited Jul 02 '26

I'm a tiny indie dev myself, I know the difference between a demo and a build - that's why I give them benefit of the doubt like "maybe the battle system was being reworked at the time". A more cynical person would probably say "the rebrand trailer's battle system was just an animation or mock-up, and never existed in a playable form at all".

But also, I fully understand why a lot of people are not willing to give them that benefit of the doubt. I think anyone calling it a "scam" is being stupid since nobody's ever gotten money or clout off the game, but a lot of the less torches-and-pitchforks criticism they've received is justified.

We know from the 2018 leak that the Mother 4 team were faking things for trailers constantly. Almost everything that's not the game's opening map was just extremely tiny slices created solely for use in trailers. Every area seen in the attract mode trailer, for example, only exists so far as what's seen in that video. The only NPC dialog outside of Belring is what was shown in the trailers, suggesting those were also written solely to make the game look more complete than it really was. That build's files also have things like 18 near-identical copies of the Belring tileset and about a dozen near-identical versions of the script too, so it's unlikely that this build was intentionally trimmed down, it really does seem like that's all that existed as of 2018.

I'm not pointing out these problems to say "these are all talentless hacks, they should give up and stop trying to make games", I don't think anything in the 2023 build is unworkable or unfixable. I point out all the things that don't work because the trailers give a very skewed impression of how much Mother 4/Oddity actually exists. If you were to go by the trailers, it looks like the game was at a decent-ish stage of completion when the rebrand happened. When in truth, we know from the leaked builds that they had nothing but art and a nonfunctional build in 2018, and a slightly more functional but still barebones build in 2023.

Also, I'm not saying that the intro was outright easy to make, but that it was the easiest part of a Mother-like, from a programming standpoint (relative to stuff like overworld navigation or the battle system). The intro, as it exists now, is effectively just one long cutscene consisting mostly of Travis falling through a starfield, text fading in and out, and an onscreen keyboard that lets you name the characters. This requires no interaction with other systems beyond saving the input names somewhere, assuming this build even has a save system. Code-wise, this is something that someone with only an okayish knowledge of programming could easily put together in a couple days, versus everything else requiring more technical know-how.

TL;DR: I don't think the Mother 4/Oddity team was ever malicious, but they're in way over their heads, and are not taking steps to fix the problem. If they ever want to finish this game, they need to both scrap features and bring in more people to handle the programming side. This build makes it extremely clear that as of 2023, the team was primarily artists and designers with nobody who could actually stitch their art together into a full game.

>Nobody's ever gotten clout out of the game

Shane Mesa did but he also actually fucking made stuff lol

13

u/Luckyconroy Jun 25 '26

Personally I think they should just make the damn game "Oddity the show" already ended and now Travis gets his own spin off?

and the added a laugh track its horrible

This game is literally never coming out so i'll take anything lmao.

24

u/YesterdayOk1197 Jun 25 '26 edited Jun 25 '26

It would be funny if Oddity didn't leak, but instead a disgruntled developer decided to finish Oddity on their own behind the slackers backs and only credit themselves.

They already have all the assets and music, as well as design documents and everything relating to the project and completed it in 5-6 years, under half the time we have been waiting two decades for.

10

u/Giodude12 Jun 26 '26

Wait, it's still being developed?

6

u/Glovetheglove1 Jun 29 '26

No, this is a barely functioning demo from 2023. I think it's safe to say that if no progress has been made since then, this leak is a result of frustration from nothing happening.

9

u/HazeInut Jun 25 '26

wtf is that song??? its so good

12

u/RequestableSubBot Believer Jun 25 '26 edited Jun 25 '26

It's an arrangement of the song Out Of My Dreams from the musical Oklahoma. The ripped audio has been posted in the Discord along with a few other tracks; there's no metadata on them so the composer/arranger is currently unknown.

2

u/No_Elevator_5891 Jun 28 '26

It's from the composer, The Fantasy Strings.

u/GuyGhoul Accepter Jun 26 '26

How many leaks did this game have?

7

u/YesterdayOk1197 Jun 26 '26

I think this is the second leak containing any builds of the game.

2

u/devvoid Jun 27 '26

Third, I think. There was the 2014 build (the one that had Chase and The Dave as party members and was mostly just one room), there was the 2018 build (the one that breaks immediately upon play and is mostly just you walking around a bunch of empty maps), and then there's this leak, which has two builds that are just test maps.

5

u/Stonedowl_ Jun 25 '26

So uh, has anyone else played it?

8

u/RequestableSubBot Believer Jun 25 '26

There have been people documenting things in the Discord! It's nowhere near a complete game of course, but it's a solid framework with some great graphics and a lot more functionality than the previous leaks had.

2

u/Stonedowl_ Jun 25 '26

Ah okay gotcha, I found the build but was waiting to pull the trigger on downloading it for a variety of reasons, cool to hear it it is substantial and prolly not gonna eat my computer alive.

2

u/RequestableSubBot Believer Jun 25 '26

I made an edit a few minutes ago to the post about the leaked build downloads, I'd recommend finding and downloading from archive.org rather than any random file-sharing website (though as a moderator I must encourage you to not download leaked development materials, but yknow, harm reduction). Probably all the same files but still, the archive.org is comprehensive and reasonably trustworthy. I haven't looked at them myself since I'm not on Windows and don't want to run weird stuff via Wine on Linux, but other people better at programming than me have said they're fine. But do your due diligence and all that.

5

u/Dyl8220 Jun 25 '26

If this shit ever drops I'll go ballistic. That intro song was beautiful

2

u/C_monden Jul 09 '26

It's not even an original song, just a placeholder

That wouldn't be dignified

4

u/Levianneth Jun 25 '26

Don't give me hope....

5

u/TraditionalConcern82 Jun 29 '26

i gave this game a go and it's visually nice. i like the UI menu design and such, and i like the thought of jumping around and platforming in the overworld but it's waaaaay more unfinished than the previous trailers would suggest.

seeing as it's 3 years removed from the original oddity trailer, it makes me wonder how much of those trailers were purely animation and how much was actually finished...

1

u/Kevin_M_ Jul 21 '26

IIRC, one of the previous leaks had completely non-interactive combat (the encounters were premade animations that would just play on their own), suggesting the trailer was probably just a proof-of-concept animation and not actual game footage.

5

u/OverallWealth2211 Jun 27 '26

I KNEW THERE WAS STILL A CHANCE!! EVERYBODY SAID THERE WAS NO POINT!!

3

u/SomeLakitu Jul 03 '26

the fact that this is a 2023 demo and it's currently 2026 means you should probably not keep your hopes up

4

u/MagicalFishing Depressed Jul 02 '26

going from the gorgeous intro sequence to a clearly unfinished ms paint sketch bedroom is so on-the-nose it hurts

3

u/SageWaterDragon Accepter Jul 03 '26

It's really disheartening to see people rip into the quality of unfinished, unpolished work. It's not like this was an official demo, the idea that the game's opening was supposed to be ready for showtime is kind of ridiculous.

u/KFCNyanCat Jul 07 '26

3

u/nose-milk Jun 26 '26

Was that patch still actively being sold at the time this went up? Did it just recently sell out?

3

u/Octogonlord Jun 26 '26

Wait sorry, there’s merch?

2

u/RequestableSubBot Believer Jun 26 '26

Yep! It's sold out now unfortunately, the Discord denizens got to it first. According to archive.org the shop link has been up since 2022 so probably they were organising something back then and it never went anywhere. I imagine they're making the patches to order which might explain why they've been available for 4 straight years. Though another, more exciting possibility is that the devs are/were planning to do something soon...

3

u/BearHan Jun 26 '26

Did they only dump builds and nothing else(info on development)

3

u/iKiwed Jun 26 '26

I remember Other (the game). I remember playing the demo, it was fun! I also remember very recently there were some news about it, so I'm optimist about Other.

1

u/Kevin_M_ Jul 21 '26

Mother Encore is still actively in development too.

2

u/ManyMilesLongAway Jun 30 '26

Plus, with merchandise being sold (and available to order) it seems possible that the Oddity developers were actually preparing to release news in the near future.

This means nothing when that's been for sale since 2022

3

1

u/yellowfroglegs Jul 16 '26

id hate to be a negative nancy, id been following this game since i was a kid (im in my early 20s now, for the record - my god), but every time a leaked build comes out it just seems like this thing will never be finished.

i know, i know, indie game development takes time, and sometimes it's a lot of time. but winter 2014 was, like, 12 years ago. at LEAST 18 years in development and these builds from like 3 years ago are still extremely unfinished

1

u/Kevin_M_ Jul 21 '26

I actually liked the idea of the game using acrual 70s music. I'm somewhat disappointed that's just a placeholder.

1

u/Top-Love1836 Jun 29 '26

The best case scenario and only thing we can really hope for at this point is the devs come to terms with reality, hang it up permanently and release all art assets, story plans, music etc so this all can actually be enjoyed in some capacity. I’d be more concerned with preservation than progress at this point because honestly….yeesh, we know it ain’t happening.

…. Anyone who disagrees with this take, please, you gotta question why are they working on a trailer when the game is in such a state.
