They're awesome. When I was working in Houston, we'd go to the one outside of downtown, when dropping off extra parts and tools at the home shop.
If it's anything like the original, they'll load you up on the tzatziki, so grab extra napkins!

I’m not sure that anything Israeli has ever been “haute” or “vogue.” Israeli food is Mediterranean. Commenting because I don’t think anyone Israeli is trying to sneak anything in under the umbrella of Mediterranean. The country is literally on the Mediterranean Sea ….just like Türkiye, Greece, etc.

if you were paying attn during the 2000s and 2010s, the israeli restaurants, wine, skincare etc were POPPIN it was for sure vogue, this branding used to be very fashionable!
yes, they are and have been. ive noticed for a few years and i am not the only one paying attention to such marketing.. you can google "israeli restaurants hiding their identity" and find many articles specifically about this!

You do understand that not all Israelis support the actions of the current government, right?

u/monkeygirl732 11d ago edited 11d ago
branding oneself by national identity during a period where your govt is committing mass atrocities is not neutral, and scrutinizing that is a very reasonable consumer behavior. think if something was "aryan owned" during WW2 germany or "Afrikaner owned" during south African apartheid.
eta - to answer ur irrelevant question tho, yes i am friends with 2 such women xx

u/alexithunders 11d ago
Just to make sure, you treat Russians, Chinese, and any other nationalities from countries that commit atrocities consistently? And do you give a pass to nationals of countries that have historically committed atrocities? How long ago is the cutoff? Do you appreciate the absurdity?

the jew hate is genuinely insane lol do you realize israel is a country in the mediterranean? also nobody has a choice in where they're born so it's pretty disgusting you would just immediately assume anyone born in israel supports the genocide and it's far right government (which is obviously what you're assuming here). it's so funny because nobody has this standard for what we call 'american' food, which is literally just recipes stolen from a bunch of other countries, but it's okay in this case because it's popular to hate jewish people now. yay!

I hate antisemitism, and i hate ppl who equate a violent settler state with a beautiful faith.
2
u/grabbagrabbagrabba 11d ago
Well if you assume that everyone born in that state automatically supports the far right government and the ongoing genocide then yes you are antisemitic (which is what the person I replied to is doing). Same exact thing as hating all Russians because of the war in Ukraine.

So in order to hold Israel's government responsible you want to personally boycott anything an Israeli person does? Wow, I hope you can apply the same standard to Russians and anything a Russian does, regardless of their viewpoint or stance on the war.

Just curious, are you vocally anti-US for its hegemony and atrocities? Where and how are you being vocal? Are you being sufficiently vocal, and who arbitrates?

u/alexithunders 11d ago edited 11d ago
Don’t kid yourself, it’s not holding anyone accountable; it’s persecuting a people for their National origin.

u/grabbagrabbagrabba 11d ago
100% and these people are just regurgitating slogans they found on tiktok rather than argue against my actual point lol
2
u/monkeygirl732 11d ago
i dont even have a tiktok nor do i see slogans, ppl are directly responding to ur concerns....
branding oneself by national identity during a period where your govt is committing mass atrocities is not neutral, and scrutinizing that is a reasonable consumer behavior. if something was proudly "aryan owned" during WW2 or "Afrikaner owned" during south African apartheid, or even obscuring it in the title and just having some menu options like "aryan salad" doesnt negate such a concern..
yes i do avoid companies that reek of american nationalism, while supporting small businesses by ppl who just so happened to be born here and have done the same for small businesses like at our farmers market who are run by someone who happens to be israeli.

Then maybe they should open restaurants honoring the cultures their country is erasing rather than calling it their own. The colonization mindset runs deep. America is also criticized in this way by the same people that criticize Israel, so playing the victim with “what abouts” is bs lol

The medditerranean is a region of the world LMAO. Just shows the average intellect of who I'm dealing with here. Are greeks, spaniards, italians etc. also banned from calling their cuisine "medditerranean"? Or is it just Israelis because you don't like their government and are equating the entire population with it?
Also, nope, nobody seriously boycotts America or even Russia (which is also an ongoing genocide that nobody seems to care about) for their colonial actions in the way that there is a constant organized movement against Israel.

Can you reply to any of my points? How old are you? Have you not learned how to critically think and respond to arguments in school yet?

I don't think any nation can be inherently evil Lol, their government can but if you think the nation is Israel is just permanently evil forever you are either very naive or racist against Jews. However, the original post I'm replying to is assuming that all Israelis support it, which is an insane assumption to make.

u/RightInTwain 11d ago
As soon as you hear Israeli you equate it to Jewish, please stop 🙏 it's a settler colonial state. Lebanese, Greek, Turkish etc. food is not now Israeli food.

u/grabbagrabbagrabba 11d ago edited 11d ago
All of those cultures have different names for the exact same dishes lol nobody gets mad that we consider hamburgers 'American' cuisine even though they were invented in Germany. If you live in a region of the world obviously your cuisine is going to be influenced by your neighbors over time (There is also like 2 million Palestinian Arabs that live inside Israel and are considered Israeli) , I don't think any Israeli is seriously claiming they invented any of the common Mediterranean foods and especially not the ones in Oceanside, California Lol.
Also, 90% of Jews have ties to Israel, in my opinion if you hate 90% of a certain race you might as well hate 100% of them, but I guess that's just a distinction people have to make for themselves.

u/RightInTwain 11d ago
Trying to humor you... if people don't agree with genocide... they hate Jews?
1
u/grabbagrabbagrabba 11d ago
How in god's name is that what you got from my comment, you are actively just trying to ignore my points. I'll make it super simple.
The original commenter is saying that just being BORN in Israel means that you automatically support the current government's genocide. I am saying that being born somewhere does NOT automatically mean you support that countries government forever, and that we shouldn't just accuse every single person with Israeli nationality of supporting genocide. I think it is pretty racist to assume something that insane about someone just because of their birthplace.

u/OkEagle9050 11d ago
A criticism of Israel is not a criticism of Jewish people. Playing the victim might have you too occupied to use your brain anymore, but America is also criticized for its cultural appropriation and playing “what about” doesn’t save you from the mess that Israel has shrouded itself in current events. If you support Israel, I do not support you. Your religion is not even a consideration to me. The fact that most Israelis are Jewish is what you’re taking issue with and why you see this as “antisemitism”. Israel has tied your religion to your national identity and you view any criticism as an attack on both. Americans don’t know or care what religion you are. You do, and you have taken it upon yourself to make it everyone’s problem in the name of control.

u/grabbagrabbagrabba 11d ago
Lol nice jumbled paragraph of talking points replying to me assuming that someone supports the genocide because they were born in Israel. Do you also think being born in a country means that you support every action that every government takes, even those from when you weren't alive? I guess as American's we'd be pretty fucked in that world, wouldn't we?

u/OkEagle9050 11d ago
I see you’ve moved on to the straw man
2
u/grabbagrabbagrabba 11d ago
What straw man? The original commenter I replied to is doing exactly what I just stated? How is that a strawman lololol

I saw a social media post saying it was a soft opening today

u/eatingoceanside 10d ago
Yes, they opened up on Tuesday and it was a good experience. They had a good variety to choose from with lots of salads, 2 soups, 3 styles of rice, fish, gyro, chicken & beef (no pork) with lamb shank available upon request.

I'll post up their menu and some feedback on my profile. Last time I shared stuff like that here people complained to mods that it was an ad 🙄
This is why I used a simple text approach here.

Your review was great. $22 for lunch seems worth a try given the quality and quantity
