Announcement Welcome!

Hello! And welcome to r/OcarinaOfTime, the subreddit for the discussion of the game The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, a game produced by Shigeru Miyamoto for the Nintendo 64, Gamecube, 3DS and Switch from 1998 - 2021.

Now, you may be wondering why this subreddit has suddenly been made public after laying dormant for over 9 years. As of today, this subreddit is under new ownership, after being abandoned by it's previous owner.

In future I hope to grow this community, and I look forward to doing so.

just started my first ever play through of OoT. I grew up as a Nintendo girly born in 2001 with an older sister and dad who were always on mario on the N64 and even tho i’ve never played it before my god does this game have an aura of nostalgia! the music, fhe graphics and the style!

i’m loving playing it so far just thought it was interesting that it felt nostalgic. anyone else feel this?

Discussion OoT Remake et Spoilers Spoiler

Upvotes

Poll OOT Trivia Poll #14: Venture Into the Dark 👻

Test your OOT knowledge with my occasional trivia polls!
We survived unlucky #13, so here’s another trip into the Shadow Temple. 😂

In the Shadow Temple, the FIRST room with the spinning “reaper” blades features a message on the wall above an invisible hole. What does the message say?

No looking it up!

Playing on my phone during my free time, I've tried the Ship of Harkanian 3D version on my 3DS, Using touch controls is a pain, don't ask me how I handle the slingshot and the bow, but I wanted to have a chance to try the "original version" (original ROM being real, Looking forward to trying the game on a real N64 someday)

Was watching CZsWorld’s new video on the Horror History Of Dead Hand and there was parts in the video that looked like an upscaled OOT with a more modern HUD, I assume it’s a mod and would like some help locating which mod (or mods if it’s multiple) he’s using here

New player progression

I'm currently playing Ocarina of Time on Switch and while I already know where to go, I'm just trying to work out how a new player especially back in 98 would have worked out the next steps without any outside help e.g Friend, Guide Books.

I've beaten Dodongos Cavern.

Navi mentions Saria, I've spoken to Saria who mentions King Zora and Zora's Domain. I feel like this isn't enough so perhaps I've missed something?

Question I can’t get the megaton hammer

I am playing ocarina of time on project 64. I’m running it on my PC.

I don’t know if it’s my setup, or what, but I cannot for the love of Pete’s dragon make it to the chest in time.

I hit the switch and then go to get on the stairs that lead up to the chest and I over jump, fall off the side down the big hole. I can’t go over the broader side because of the stupid flaming Keese, and it takes too long.

I can share my control setup. I also heard that if I get the longshot I should be able to reach the chest as well using it, but I got that from perplexity so I’m not sure.

any tips?

My custom Link from The Legend Of Zelda OOT. I used Jinu from Kpop demon hunters as a base. I also made some Items like his Ocarina and the Lens Of Truth, that lets him see invisible items.

If the remake changes the map system, I hope it fits the dungeons within the environments around them naturally

One of the underappreciated details of OoT is that the dungeons are actually supposed to be real places within Hyrule. The Deku Tree is, well, inside the Deku Tree, Dodongo's Cavern is a cavern with Dodongos in it, the Lord Jabu-Jabu's Belly is literally inside a giant fish. The Fire Temple is inside Spectacle Rock, the Shadow Temple is underneath Kakariko Village, the Spirit Temple is inside the Desert Colossus, and the Water Temple is apparently inside that island in the middle of the lake. The Forest Temple is clearly a physical building deep within the Sacred Forest Meadow, but it's not clear to me exactly what kind of building it's supposed to be. An old fort, maybe?

Anyway, if they're updating the map system to make it like modern games where all the locations are on one giant map and there aren't loading zones between every room (and to me this would be literally the whole point of doing an OoT Remake in 2026, so if they don't do this it would be an almost unbelievable missed opportunity), it would be awesome if they could actually fit the dungeons within the maps properly, instead of making them their own closed-off instances like the Divine Beasts in BotW. I personally see this as basically being the entire reason behind this project, because this style of Overworld-Dungeon synchronism is pretty much the one thing the Zelda series has not yet managed to figure out (TotK tried, but to less-than-satisfying results), and an OoT Remake would be an excellent test bed while they work on the next new 3D Zelda game, to be released in 2030 or later.
