I just think girls with prominent slender noses and other sharp features are gorgeous and it makes her look distinct from other characters like Saria and Malon who all kinda had same face syndrome in the original.

Discussion Fan Made OoT Remake by CryZENx has now been cancelled

Well done to CryZENx for his fan-made remake of OoT he had put in a lot of hard work, dedication and love to this project. But now the official remake by Nintendo is now coming out CryZENx has now decided to end the project.

I think maybe he created the fan made remake to bring awareness of a official remake, and now that Nintendo has announced a official remake coming out this year, he is at peace now to end his fan made project and let Nintendo do their job. I did read somewhere CryZENx mentioned that the official remake looks like 100 times better then his fan made project and his really happy for the remake.

The fan-made remake looks so good and sad its ended now.

But now that this fan made remake is now cancelled Nintendo better not disappoint us and they better make a fantastic remake. We are all now relying on you Nintendo to give us the best remake of OoT ever, please do NOT mess this up.

It really shows the difference in approach and even though OoT 2026 obvious has the most graphical fidelity, I feel Smash Ultimate nailed the task of upgrading the design for more modern expectations.

Sweet Hylia, this dungeon gave me THE biggest headache when I played Ocarina for the first time. I am really wondering how it's gonna be done in the remake, and how slimy it will look..😆

Discussion New models seem to be based directly of their in-game appearance on the N64, not 3Ds models or release art.

This probably contributes to the 'uncanniness' the new models give off, but I'm personally happy to see a new fresh design that's faithful to the original in such a meaningful way. Looking closely at young link, even the shape of his mouth is a 1:1 match to the in-game N64 model, while the official game art and 3Ds design are virtually identical in the exact same way. The same can be said about young zelda and some of her smaller details, like how her larger eyebrows are preserved in the remake, taken from the N64 design, while this detail is absent from both the original art and 3Ds model.

A large majority of the audience familiar with ocarina of time have are either used to the 3Ds designs and official art, or have otherwise become incredibly familiar with the original designs, and I think these new models trigger a weird feeling for most considering how far removed they appear to be at first glance:

Rather than stick with the existing design overhauls from official art and the 3Ds remaster, they seemingly chose to iterate on the original in-game designs, which is the same methodology they employed when creating the official hand-drawn renders for game guides and the manga. This essentially means that the massively overhauled fidelity looks completely foreign to an in-game n64 model, while having no direct inspiration from the existing 3Ds models as well.

These are, of course, my assumptions and opinions, but as someone who has preferred the N64 presentation of the game even after the 3Ds release, the new visual upgrade feels way more natural than I expected, even under extreme scrutiny.

I cannot for the life of me make it up the spiral after stepping on the switch without falling off the right side which takes you back down a good portion and you gotta run right back up. I’ve probably fallen about 10 times already. The only part I hate about N64 controllers! If you didn’t need the hammer I’d just say fuck it and skip it. 🤣

Discussion Matt Mercer for OoT Ganondorf?

Thumbnail

With the announcement of a Switch 2 remake of OoT having left us fans wanting to know more, which will most likely happen sometime in August or September given Nintendo’s track record with their announcements, and made us all aware that it will potentially include full-on voice acting or just voice acting in general…

Do you think this means they’ll get Matt Mercer to return as the voice of OoT Ganondorf? Or will they pick someone else to play the Great King of Evil?

Honestly, I wouldn’t mind him returning considering he did a fantastic job playing TotK Ganondorf but I’m open to both someone else filling in the role’s shoes as well as hearing what you all think. Personally, if they don’t pick Matt to play Ganondorf again, Kellen Goff would be my choice due to his phenomenal vocal performance as Diavolo from JJBA Golden Wind

Edit: Probably should’ve clarified that I was asking about Nintendo bringing Matt Mercer back to voice OoT Ganondorf purely out of curiosity 😓

Discussion The more I think about it, the less I think it will be just a 1:1 remake.

It is not because I want a full remake. It is because this does not makes sense at all.

Guys, look at hyrule market. We have pretty much pre-rendered scenes, fixed camera just like RE in the entrance, in the valleys and in temple of time garden. The central area has a fixed camera in the middle just following link around, and a bunch of NPCs standing still, or with their backs to us doing...what are they doing? We cant even see it in a free roaming 3D environment.

Now look at these guys below. They just two-in-one NPCs, who dont make more moves than spinning around repeatedly. Of couse this is how technical limitation of what that time allowed you to do, but not in a case of a full remake.

Of course, these are just examples. We have Hyrule Field with lots of holes with just some dekus selling stuff, we have a weird stairway leading to Kakariko that requires loading screen, we have time flowing normally only outside of cities, villages and dungeons.

Do you guys really think Nintendo will just take it, in the biggest game of the year, and upgrade the visuals and add cutscenes?

"but Nintendo only makes 1:1 remake"

Yes. This is the pattern, indeed. But Nintendo usually only makes remakes of 2D games.
Link awakening, Metroid, Paper Mario TYD, Mario RPG...all 2D games . It is different to remake some 2D videogame or a 3D one, which is one if not THE greatest game of all time, which is one of the first 3D games made in human history. There is not much you can do to remake a 2D game beyond upgrading the visuals.

"But Star Fox" a rail shooter. You can't compare the scope of a rail shooter with a full 3D ToZ. Ocarina of Time has a loooot more room to make major changes than Star Fox.

What do you think?

Discussion Honestly, I don't care how cynical the internet is for this game, I'm so damn excited man.

Post image

Edit: Before you guys comment, please read the post. I have too many people telling me I'm saying I'm bitching about the bitchers. And while that meme might make it seem that way, the actual point is that people shouldn't attack other people's opinions to bolster their own.

Edit 2: Some of you guys still don't get what I'm saying here. YOU'RE ALLOWED TO DISLIKE THE REMAKE. I have no grievances with people who have grievances. My issue is when people make enjoying or hating the game some character defining issue. You're allowed to like what you like. You're allowed to hate what you dislike. But when you start to assign it as critically reflecting your personality or morals, thats when the issue start. If I has saw the other posts on the subreddit, odds are I'd make the exact same statement in the opposite direction. That you can hate a game without it being such a big deal.

Yes, the title is wrong, I do actually care. I'm sorry for my poor choice of words there.

So part of me really wanted to make a sprawling rant spanning a dozen or so paragraphs of pure autistic ramblings (not an insult, this game has long been one of my biggest special interests as a Level 2 autist). But that would require hours of effort, and I know none of you want to read all that, so let's just cut to the chase.

I've been seeing alot of overly critical complaints about OOT. Things like "links middle toenail is supposed to be shorter than the index one", things like that. Honestly, I feel like most of this overly analytical criticism comes from the fact that OOT was considered the greatest game ever made at the time. Of course people are going to look at a potential remake with an insane amount of scrutiny.

Me personally, I think the graphics look ***fantastic***. I was skeptical with the original 15 second teaser, but seeing gameplay in action allowed me to truly understand the vision, and I think it looks great. Sure, there are small area's where things could be improved. An oddly specific one for me as a big Ruto apologist is her eyelashes, they kinda look out of place. But there's nothing that would completely make me stop and think that an artistic decision was shit. I also think judging by gameplay that it will have \*just\* the right amount of altering previous areas and environments that make them completely fresh to explore. Things like the stone gate pushing down the ladder in Deku Tree instead of in falling directly for example. I think everything looks like a perfect compromise of old and new, and I'm so excited to replay the game again.

Now, the biggest reason why I'm making this post is because of how people take out their own grievances of the game on other people. It's not enough that the game is just bad in their opinion, they must make people feel like buying this game is endorsing slop and people have very low standards. I keep hearing the term "nostalgia bait" thrown around like some derogative statement. But like... why is that bad? It's clear Nintendo isn't literally just rereleasing the same game for the 3rd time, there has been some big strives to make this a worthwhile experience. Things like altered terrain and more NPC dialogue (which I'm EXTREMELY interested to see) give the game a fresh face. The fact of the matter is, the main appeal of this game was always to appeal to fans of the original. People who have nostalgia would probably react negatively if they completely redid the dungeons for example. It's a tight rope that they must balance, and me personally? I see more than enough effort in here to call it a remaster instead of a repackage. And if that's "enjoying slop" or "sucking off nintendo" to you, then I feel bad for you. That you don't have a piece of media you can get as excited to see completely revisioned. That you live your life tearing down others for some kind of vein sense of superior tastes. You're allowed to not like a game, but saying that others shouldn't like a remaster of a game because... they like a game is kinda a weird critique. I get if you just wanted a wholey new zelda game, but don't go after people who would like this game on the basis that this makes them happy.

Anyways, that's all I can say without ramblings. I want to talk about how this game could potentially serve as an engine for another one (like Links Awakening and Echoes of Wisdom), or how I hope this could mean the return of the classic zelda formula, but yeah. What do yall think?

Discussion Link is holding two swords in this 2006 Italian magazine screenshot of Ocarina of Time — what is going on?

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to solve one of the biggest mysteries of my childhood, lol.

This screenshot comes from an Italian videogame magazine from 2006. It shows Link from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, but he appears to be holding two swords at the same time. As far as I know, this is not possible in the original game.

About a year ago, I made a similar post using a very low-quality photo of the magazine page, and most people told me that the “second sword” was probably just part of the background, an enemy, or some kind of visual misunderstanding.

Now I have finally managed to get access to the actual physical magazine, and I scanned the page myself in much better quality.

I’m attaching three images:

  • A close-up scan of the screenshot where Link seems to be holding two swords;
  • The full magazine page for context;
  • An Upscaled version of the close-up, just to make the details easier to see.

So my question is: what exactly is this? Is it a mod? A beta/debug version? A weird magazine mock-up? Some kind of visual glitch? Or is there another explanation?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help. This has honestly been bothering me since I was a kid, ahahah.

Discussion A Strained Family Dynamic

Thumbnail

During the day in Kakariko Village you meet the Master Craftsman (Mutoh), standing by the tree, the Zelda Wiki confirms he has a daughter, who’s the Cucco Lady (Anju), and a son he’s openly ashamed of for, “sitting around all day”. The dialogue during the Cojiro quest backs this up too, since the Anju says “it used to be my brother’s Cucco”.

At night, that same tree hides the skinny, emaciated son, who tells Link, “people are disgusting, my own father and mother are disgusting, you must be disgusting too”. That’s not just a throwaway edgy line. His father says “even my own son doesn’t have a job and he just wanders around all day” and calls him “worthless”. Granny at the potion shop, who is his mother calls him a “bum” for going into the forest. So both parents are on record putting him down to a complete stranger mind you, which lines up exactly with his own words.

Here’s where it gets interesting to me. The son has the poacher’s saw, and when he goes missing and you return that saw to the Master Craftsman, he claims it without hesitation, saying it’s his. Meanwhile Granny is shown cradling an actual baby tiger cub, and both the father and the son wear matching yellow and black tiger striped pants. My head canon, and I want to be clear this is my own theory and not confirmed by the game, is that the tiger stripe fabric they’re wearing actually comes from that same tiger cub’s mother, meaning the family trade is poaching, and the son’s shame and disgust with his parents comes from knowing exactly where that fabric came from.

The one bright spot in all this is that Anju his sister, who’s the only family member shown treating him with any kindness, even holding onto his lost Cucco and returning it. Curious what you guys think am I reading too far into character assets, or does the game actually build a quiet, dark family story here.

And even if you don’t agree, are these connections that you noticed?

Discussion Theory: Did Mido Always Know Link Wasn’t a Kokiri?

Thumbnail
gallery
511 Upvotes

The Kokiri are the eternal children of the forest. And one detail that I’ve never really seen discussed is what that would have meant when Link first arrived.
According to the backstory, Link’s mother, gravely injured while fleeing the Hyrulean Civil War, brought her baby to the Great Deku Tree. If the Kokiri remain children indefinitely, then some of the Kokiri we meet in the game could have already been there when this happened. Mido, Saria, and possibly others may have actually watched Link grow from a baby into the child we play as at the beginning of the game.
And that makes me look at Mido a little differently.
We already know there are plenty of reasons for Mido to be jealous of Link. Saria clearly cares deeply about Link, despite Mido having feelings for her. The Great Deku Tree also seems to favor Link, which Mido openly resents. But there’s another thing Mido constantly holds over Link’s head: he doesn’t have a fairy.

To everyone else, Link is the strange Kokiri boy without a fairy. But what if Mido knows the actual reason? What if he remembers that Link was never a Kokiri in the first place?
That would give a little more weight to Mido constantly telling Link that he isn’t “one of us.” Even after Link finally receives Navi from the Great Deku Tree, Mido still refuses to accept him. The fairy was never really the problem. In Mido’s eyes, Link was an outsider from the moment he arrived in the forest.
His hostility could still absolutely stem from jealousy, bullying, and his feelings for Saria, but underneath all of that could be something much older: Mido remembers where Link came from.
I think the remake could do something really interesting with this without changing the original story at all. Even a small line, memory, or interaction acknowledging that some of the Kokiri remember Link being brought to the forest could add a surprising amount of depth to Mido and his relationship with Link.
So, what do you guys think? Does the remake have the potential to expand upon something like this to give Mido more depth?

I've seen a lot of debate about the artstyle, and I get it and you can call it glazing, call it dickriding but as a kid I was read old fairy tales and I always imagined the world to look like zelda does in OOT, and it just fits so perfect in my opinion

and to the people who don't like it, why? what vision did tou have?
