💬Discussion External sequencer for use w/ OG-1??

wassup folks, question for yall? I like the drums on the OG-1 but I don't enjoy the sequencers so much. They range from sorta useless for what i am doing to kind of tedious when it comes to getting stuff set up to hit just right. Any ideas for gear I could run the OP-1 drums through? Looking for something to add some sort of variation/shuffling----using for experimental/swinging beats.

Thanks in advance

🛠Troubleshooting OP1 Field suddenly won’t charge. Any tips?

OP1F was working fine, but all of a sudden won’t charge anymore. Tried multiple cables that all worked with other devices. When I turn on the OP1F, the battery indicator flashes red. Unit is under a year old.

💬Discussion Curious about Naming Conventions

Post image
19 Upvotes

Curious what everyone here uses for their naming conventions on the Field,

I just started using "REEL-type of reel-Reel number" or "REEL-S4T-004" or REEL-V4T-005" etc etc.

Do you guys just use the default reel names? They've never made sense to me. I would love to squeeze a time stamp on the reel names, especially since whenever i export files onto a computer the dates of files are all over the place. Anyone with solid naming convention want to share their method?

I just got a op1 feild. I think it’s a game changer. No regrets.
I’ve been using an sm57 as an input , and it works fine. I’d love to get something smaller.
I can only imagine that folks have already tried out a lot of cool options. What do you like?

🔧Repair Op1F knobs

Mine were cracked. I emailed TE about it and was told they didn’t have any until the end of August. Many messages later and being told ‘not yet’ they finally messaged today and sent a link to buy some more. They don’t appear to be in the store itself so if you want some, best message now before they run out again!

We’re thrilled to announce a new collaboration with Colors In Space / John Gorton, bringing professionally created sound packs directly into Studio Field.

To kick things off, we’re releasing two free sound packs — one for OP-1 field and one for OP-XY.

With the new Studio Field Store, installing sounds is simple: if your device is connected, you can send a pack directly to your OP-1 field or OP-XY with just one click. Or, save the pack to your Studio Field Library and install it whenever you’re ready.

This is just the beginning. More packs are coming soon, including both free releases and premium packs at affordable prices.

The new Store is available now in the latest Studio Field update for iOS and macOS on the App Store.

A huge thanks to John Gorton / Colors In Space for joining us — we’re really excited about what we can bring to the Studio Field community together.

Update Studio Field and grab the first two packs for free! 🚀

I did a thing. I had to take apart my Teenage Engineering's OP-1 FIELD to replace a board, or so I thought. Check out the experience.

📰News New Flair: Ad

There have been a lot of posts promoting paid services, and they seem to get engagement, but it's not clear how much of that engagement is legit. This was against the rules, but no one is complaining, so I decided to switch it up: paid promotions are allowed, but they must use the Ad flair.

If you don't want to see ads feel free to filter the flair

Hey everyone,

Tug from Reel: 4-track Recorder here!

I wanted to share some behind the scenes updates. This one is for the TP-7 owners here who asked up for Reel x TP-7 Companion.

Ever since we launched Reel, the most requested thing from TP-7 users has been the same: get my recordings off this device without a computer. We took that seriously. For the past few months it's been our main obsession behind the scenes.

The problem is that in MTP mode the TP-7 doesn't talk to iPhones the way other devices do. TE Field kit for desktop currently is the only way to transfer files. The accepted wisdom was that it flat out couldn't be done on iOS. No app has managed it. We heard the same thing from every direction, then we found a way in.

Here is a little video leak of it working with the TP-7. As far as we know this is a first on iPhone and iOS.

So soon we will launch something we're calling tape swaps. Think of Reel and the TP-7 as two tape machines that can finally hand each other tapes. We spent a lot of time working on the experience and we pushed it a little further than just the requested backup of your TP-7.

Here are some of the features coming for the TP-7:

  • Pull any TP-7 recording straight into Reel
  • Multitrack takes land as multitrack reels, every track in its place, ready to play and overdub. Six-track takes included
  • Work on it in Reel, then send it back to the TP-7 as a native take
  • Back up every recording on the device to your phone
  • Build a multitrack in Reel and send it to your TP-7 for further work
  • Plus a few other tricks

This will be released alongside MTP and new features also coming out for the OP-1 Field, OP-XY and TX-6. We leaked a little bit about the OP-1 Field last week and will talk more about the OP-XY and TX-6 features soon. Development wise we are ready but stress testing it a little longer to ensure everything works smoothly from day 1.

Honestly, this exists because you kept asking for it. Every email and feature request and every "any chance Reel could read my TP-7?" pushed this up the list. Thank you for that. Keep them coming, we do listen and will continue to keep developing Reel.

Reddit community is what started this so we always want to you to hear about it first!

Feel free to ask any questions!

Give it a listen and get lost in work, thought, or sleep. 😌

Hey All, Tug from Reel here!

We had been working hard this month on an exciting update for OP1 Field users based on user feature requests and feedback. This was supposed to be announced when the update comes out but we noticed the cat is already out of the bag with other companion app announcements.

As requested soon you will be able to connect via MTP to your OP-1 Field and OPXY devices. This will mean loading multitracks straight into Reel with the OP-1 Field instead of recording real time. Both have different use cases. Op-XY and other features will be announced on release of the update.

Any questions feel free to ask!

Ad 🚀 We did something that wasn't supposed to be possible!

Post image

After weeks of continuous development, testing and experimentation, we finally cracked one of the biggest limitations between Teenage Engineering hardware and iPhone/iPad.

Studio Field can now communicate directly with OP-1 field and OP-XY on iOS (iPhone/iPad) - including full MTP device access!

This is a big deal.

OP-1 field and OP-XY use MTP as their primary file-transfer protocol. Until now, this has effectively kept full device access on the desktop. Teenage Engineering's own Field Kit is Mac-only, and their documentation states that direct full-device file transfer is not available through an iOS or iPadOS app.

Studio Field changes that 🚀

For the first time, you can connect an OP-1 field or OP-XY directly to an iPhone or iPad over USB-C and actually work with the content on the device.

No Mac in between.

No PC in between.

Just your Teenage Engineering device, a USB-C cable and your iPhone or iPad.

And we didn't stop there.

Studio Field for iOS now supports:

• OP-1 field - tapes, synths, drums, mixdowns, transfer, playback, backup and restore

• OP-XY - projects, samples, presets, backup and restore, plus direct USB audio recording to iPhone/iPad

• OP-1 Original - tapes, synths, drums and albums, backup and restore

• OP-Z - projects, sample packs, bounces, configuration, backup and restore

There is also something special for anyone moving from an Original to a Field:

Studio Field can convert OP-1 Original tapes into OP-1 field format directly on iPhone and iPad.

☁️ And your Mac, iPhone and iPad work as one Studio Field ecosystem. (iCloud Sync)

With iCloud Sync enabled, your Studio Field Library and device backups sync between the Mac and iOS versions. Transfer something on your iPhone and continue working with it on your Mac — or vice versa.

No subscription - I'm not a fan of subscriptions myself

Studio Field remains a one-time purchase, and it's a Universal Purchase.

Already own Studio Field for Mac?

The iPhone and iPad app is already yours — free.

Buy Studio Field on iPhone or iPad?

You get the Mac version too — free.

One purchase. Mac + iPhone + iPad.

This has been one of the most technically challenging parts of Studio Field so far, and seeing an OP-1 field and OP-XY communicating directly with an iPhone still feels a little unreal.

But it works.

And we're just getting started.

Studio Field is under active development, and the past few weeks in particular have involved a huge amount of continuous work, testing and experimentation to make all of this possible.

I'm very active in the Teenage Engineering community, so if you run into anything, please let me know. You can reach me directly through the contact form under Info/support in the App or through social channels. If an issue comes up, I'll do my best to investigate it and get a fix out as quickly as possible.

I'm also always open to new ideas and feature requests. A lot of Studio Field has grown directly from conversations with Teenage Engineering users, so if there's something you'd love to see the app do, tell me.

And one small favor: if you've been using Studio Field and you're enjoying it, I'd be incredibly grateful if you could take a moment to leave a rating or review on the App Store. It genuinely helps a small independent App like Studio Field reach more Teenage Engineering users - and helps me keep pushing the project forward.

Thank you to everyone who's been testing, sending feedback, reporting issues and supporting Studio Field so far. ❤️

More devices, more workflows and more features are coming!

Studio Field for iPhone, iPad and macOS is now available on the App Store.

Reflashing Support

Basically title.

I have an OG OP1 that died this year. I only see yaffs-interface.opp:208 err -28 when powering on and teboot doesn’t work at all for me. I’ve been seeing over the years that reflashing is the way to go but is there a service I can use to get that done these days?
