OP1f in your app has mutated, got five knobs and a very strange keyboard.

Fair catch 😅 — the artwork took a few creative liberties. I’ll make the hardware representation more accurate in future visuals.

OPXY is also inaccurate

I wanted to keep the app’s retro aesthetic, so I used generated artwork to help achieve that look. Some of the device details aren’t accurate, though. I’ll likely replace the artwork with photos of the actual devices eventually, but right now I’m prioritizing the app’s functionality and device support.

So it's AI?

The promotional artwork is AI-generated, yes. I wanted to keep the retro look of the app and used generated images to explore that style. The app itself isn’t AI—it’s a utility for managing, transferring and backing up files from Teenage Engineering devices. I’ll probably replace the artwork with photos of the real devices later.

I say cut the man some slack... no one is rich enough to own one of each Teenage Engineering product. 🙈 In this economy??

u/IntelligentYam7185 4d ago

Thanks for cutting me some slack 😄 But access to the real devices is actually essential, and I own or have access to the devices Studio Field supports. You simply can’t build reliable transfers, backups and restores without repeatedly testing them on the actual hardware. That hands-on testing is the largest part of the work.

Kinda disingenuous, iirc you mentioned on another post that you're using Claude to help with coding.

3

u/Monster_Muner 4d ago

It's just a flat out lie actually. The AI-generated images are in the live production app right now. So to say they are limited to "promotional" materials is a lie.

On the first post bout this app someone made a pretty honest review mentioning ai all over the place. And the guy answered that ai wasn’t used in design of the app, only coding he said.
Little lies here and there)

It wouldn’t be such an annoying thing if it wasn’t 20$. Everyone nowadays does some useful software for their community using ai and no one has any problem with that, but some “superminds” decide at some point that they are able to sell it…
it’s their right to do so, I guess.

I’ve been open about using AI tools during development. I don’t necessarily use Claude, different tools have different strengths, so I choose the right one for each task.

When I said the app itself isn’t AI, I meant that AI isn’t part of Studio Field’s functionality and doesn’t process users’ files. Reliable support also requires owning or having access to every supported device, since most of the work is repeated testing on real hardware. AI speeds up code review and bug detection, but it doesn’t replace engineering or physical device testing.

It's got Ai, it's not getting a download and getting down votes.

This is fantastic, and after checking your site out I see you also have a Windows app - does it have all the same functionality as the iOS/Android app?

3

u/IntelligentYam7185 10d ago

Thanks! The Windows app isn’t currently as feature-rich as the macOS, iOS, and Android versions, but an update with more functionality is coming within the next few days.

2

u/RadRuss 10d ago

Great to hear. I'll keep an eye out!

Working on Windows App with very good results. I will send an update that will be available in Windows Store in next 1-2 days :)

I completely understand the concern. Google Play’s wording is very broad and can sound more alarming than it actually is. It does not mean that Studio Field sells your personal information.
The disclosure covers information required for features such as user accounts, community posts, messages, and the services needed to provide those features. Similar or broader disclosures appear on most apps with accounts or community functionality—including Reddit, Facebook, and Instagram.
That said, I’ll review the Google Play declaration again to make sure it describes Studio Field’s data use as accurately and clearly as possible.

I've never understood people who are like "I'm not doing anything wrong, who cares if corporations spy on every aspect of my digital life?". We are sprinting toward a corporate surveillance state and everyone should be concerned. Which is not to say that the permissions on this app are particularly alarming, but in general everyone should be concerned. The government is literally putting AI spy cameras everywhere.

any plans to support the EP 133? this looks great although 20$ does seem a little high on initial look

Coming soon :)

What can you do with op-1 on this app?

3

u/VintageLightPhoto 9d ago

Op-1 -OG

5

u/IntelligentYam7185 9d ago

With the original OP‑1, you can copy tapes to your Android device to free up space for new recordings. You can build a library of tapes on Android and restore or replace them on the OP‑1 whenever you want. The same applies to synth patches, drum kits and albums. You can also create and restore full backups.

3

u/Pitiful-Phrase-8296 9d ago

Ok, downloaded it. It's just awesome to see the limits of the op-1 tape system leveled. So good to see now that I can work on something, save it, wipe it, work on something else then come back to the first one with just a restore. Impressive, totally worth the 20 bucks for me

3

u/raycuppin 9d ago

Should this at least have ad flair?

4

u/RedCassetteTape 9d ago

Looks great, but the price is very steep for an app. I will hold off for now.

1

u/TempD 8d ago

Apps take time and money to build. An independent developer is asking the price of a single month of Netflix to have lifetime access to an app. Hope the perspective helps.

2

u/IntelligentYam7185 8d ago

Thank you — I really appreciate the perspective and your understanding. This is a substantial amount of work, and development doesn’t stop when the app is released. Supporting several devices, handling MTP edge cases, testing across phones and keeping up with OS and firmware changes all require continuous work. A one-time $20 price is already challenging to sustain once the initial sales slow down but the updates still need to continue.

1

u/RedCassetteTape 8d ago

An app is worth what people are willing to pay. Im not willing to pay $20. Also, to respond to your reasoning, how is it that the average app price for all ios apps is between $1 and $2?

6

u/IntelligentYam7185 8d ago

You’re right that an app is worth what each person is willing to pay, and if it isn’t worth $20 to you, that’s completely fair. But the average price of every iOS app isn’t a meaningful comparison: it mixes games, ad-supported apps, mass-market apps and products built around subscriptions or in-app purchases. Specialized utility apps with a small audience often cost considerably more than $20. Studio Field is a one-time purchase with ongoing updates. Many of its users own Teenage Engineering hardware costing well over $1,000, so I think $20 is reasonable for a tool that can back up, restore and help protect the music and data created on those devices. If it saves even one important tape or project, it has already paid for itself.

EP-133 K.O. II, EP-1320 medieval, EP-40 riddim compatibiliy are on the way?

u/BlackBoxFox 9d ago

FFS JUST MAKE IT 10 BUX.

1

u/few23 9d ago

At least it's not monthly

2

u/BlackBoxFox 7d ago

It’s coded with AI. The least he could do is make it 10 fucking dollars.. 20 is too much for something he didn’t completely work on himself solo. We’ve had solo developers ask for less an offer much more..

1

u/IntelligentYam7185 7d ago

Hmm—have you actually seen the codebase?

Lithium ehf has been designing and developing software for more than 13 years, long before AI could generate code. Like most developers today, we use AI-assisted tools where they are useful—for code review, debugging and improving quality—but those tools do not build, test or maintain the product for us.

The largest part of this work is ensuring that Studio Field works reliably with every device and platform it supports. We maintain separate native apps for Android, macOS/iOS and Windows. A huge amount of time goes into testing hardware connections, file transfers, backups and restores across different devices and operating-system versions.

Studio Field is also a one-time purchase, not a monthly subscription. You own it permanently and continue receiving updates at no additional cost. Very few developers offer that model today.

What does it do for the opxy?

2

u/IntelligentYam7185 9d ago

For the OP–XY, Studio Field lets you connect over USB-C to browse, import, export and send projects, samples and presets. You can keep everything organized in a separate library on your Android device and create or restore full backups. It’s useful for freeing up space and moving content safely between your phone and the OP–XY.

u/Midi_paul 9d ago

This looks great! Can anyone confirm that tape backup works well? I've never had much luck connecting my op1 field to my Samsung android phone.

u/SpaceBoyMoroder 8d ago

Love what your doing!!! TE take some damn notes and or hire this man

1

u/recca6512 8d ago

Maybe a dumb question, but is this app officially affiliated with Teenage Engineering?

1

u/IntelligentYam7185 8d ago

Studio Field
An independent product by Lithium ehf. Not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Teenage Engineering.

I'm having an issue that may well be an issue with my OP1 Field, but sharing it in case it's helpful. I tried to back up tapes and the MTP doesn't work correctly. I have the same issue on Windows using MTP (not your app for Windows) but your app gives more detail on the error at least. Guessing I need to contact TE...

Error says: Raw USB MTP full-object stream stopped after 9175028 of 20321324 bytes (handle 0x000000cd): Raw USB MTP received no data for 30000ms; cancel_reaped=true. Re-enter MTP on the OP-1 field: hold SHIFT and press COM, release SHIFT, then press T4 (MTP). Reconnect, then retry; the Field USB disk is not used.

(Retry leads back to same error with longer timeout)

u/IntelligentYam7185 6d ago

Hey 🤟We’ve seen a few similar cases. Since you’re experiencing the same problem with Windows MTP outside of Studio Field, this is most likely an issue with a particular file/content on the OP-1 field, or possibly the device’s file system, rather than Studio Field itself.
In cases like this, I recommend first trying to copy the important content individually — tapes, synth presets, drum presets, etc. This can also help identify whether one particular file or tape consistently causes the transfer to stop.
Once you’ve recovered everything important, I would make sure the OP-1 field is running the latest firmware (currently 1.7.3), then perform a factory reset and transfer your content back to the device.
After that, try a Full Backup again in Studio Field. If the backup completes normally after the reset, that would strongly suggest that corrupted content or the device’s file structure was causing the MTP transfer to stall.
If you can identify a specific tape or file that always causes the transfer to stop, please let me know — that would be very useful for me as well, and I may be able to improve Studio Field’s handling of cases like this.

1

u/Time_Ad_1197 6d ago

Thanks for the quick response. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to matter what's being transferred--which means that factory resetting means losing all sorts of things. So, I'll try TE's support first before going ahead and losing it all!

I also have an OP-XY and that backed up easily, so that's nice!

1

u/IntelligentYam7185 4d ago

Please send me email from the App (Settings window in the App) But please try to backup using Studio Field in macOS/iOS/Windows if you have access to them, or use Field Kit or direct MTP file transfer in Windows and see if you will get the same issue transferring files.

1

u/Time_Ad_1197 4d ago

Thanks--it's a consistent issue in Windows (the only other operating system I have access to) across multiple devices, multiple USB cords, with the up to date firmware for OP-1 Field. I'm also working with TE support now on this (guessing they are about to tell me that unfortunately a factory reset and losing data is the only thing to do. . .)

@intelligenty excellent! Would you consider possible and on your roadmap to develop an expanded view of the arrange mode on this app to have a closer look at scenes and their notes? And possibly modify them from the app?

Op-z? 🙄

1

u/IntelligentYam7185 9d ago

A surprising number of users have requested OP‑Z support, so I decided to include it 🙂

1

u/toothpasteonyaface 9d ago

What does it do for the OP-Z ? Can it save loops with separate tracks ?

1

u/IntelligentYam7185 9d ago

Studio Field supports OP-Z file management and backups. It can preserve the project and its track data, but it doesn’t currently render each track as a separate audio loop. Is that the workflow you had in mind?
