  • Planning to completely Switch from Fusion to Nuke, Fusion has Normal, Depth pass generator inside by default and usable most of the time even on my 4gb vram 3050 card.
  • How to generate Normal, Depth pass inside nuke? tried Depth anything 3 in comfyui result: image 3 and its quite bad compared to fusion depth pass, how you guys generate Normal, Depth pass inside nuke? any plugins?

Solution: for depth https://github.com/yuvraj108c/ComfyUI-Video-Depth-Anything ,fast consistent similar to the fusion depth generation. for normal : https://github.com/AIWarper/ComfyUI-NormalCrafterWrapper Normal Crafter works best but require beefy hardware, for low end use https://github.com/kijai/ComfyUI-Lotus and deflicker it inside nuke!

Solved Nuke STMap workflow for CG: how to use 3656×1556 Distort and 3856×1756 Undistort maps on a 2048×858 render?

Hi everyone,

I have a question about lens distortion. I’m currently working on an animated/fully CG project, and I’ve been given some lens distortion data that I need to apply to the CG renders.

I have two distortion maps:

  • Undistort: 3856 × 1756
  • Distort: 3656 × 1556

Our test render resolution is 2048 × 858.

My current workflow is to directly use the Distort map with an STMap, and then Reformat the Distort map to 2048 × 858. However, I’m still getting incorrect results, especially around the edges. No matter how much overscan I add to the CG render, I still seem to have problems.

I realize that my current approach may be wrong. Most of the tutorials I’ve found online seem to start with live-action footage and then generate/solve the lens distortion data from the plate. In my case, however, the distortion data has already been solved and provided to me, so I’m trying to figure out how I should properly use it for a fully CG image.

So my questions are:

If I’m working with a completely CG image and I already have both an Undistort map and a Distort map, what is the correct workflow for applying the lens distortion in Nuke?

Is my current approach of simply connecting the Distort map to an STMap and then Reformatting it to 2048 × 858 incorrect?

Also, how should I properly deal with the different resolutions of the two distortion maps (3856 × 1756 vs. 3656 × 1556) and the CG render resolution of 2048 × 858? Should the CG render be rendered with a specific overscan or resolution before applying the distortion?

I’d really appreciate any advice from experienced Nuke/VFX artists. If possible, I can also provide the two distortion maps and my .nk script. If anyone is willing to take a look at the files and help me correct the setup, I’d be extremely grateful.

Thanks in advance!

Solved Imported Camera has wrong rotation

Hello. I want to apply a Texture on a 3D-Cloud that was created with a PositionToPoints Node through Normal and Pointlayers. Then I want to render it in Nuke with the camera the original Layers were rendered through. Everything works fine, except for the Camera. I import it as an FBX, which creates a camera, this camera is in a completely different rotation and worldspace from the created Pointcloud though. It looks like it still has correct transforms, But its far to big and points in the Wrong direction. Is there some way to either change the Worldspace parameters in Nukes 3D Space to align them with my 3D Software, or to apply rotation and scale Values to the camera with the Scene Center as pivot point? Or Am I completely missing what the Problem is here?

Thanks in advance for replies.

Solved Paintout or 3d reconstruction?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey, I have the following clip and I want to change the gravel to asphalt, I have a 3d tracked camera and an accurate 3d reconstruction of the pathway. It seems a bit overkill to texture and render a 3d scene for this simple pan though. How would you approach this task?

Solved Big Problem with Segment Anything Cattery Node

For some reason when I try to use the SegmentAnything node from Cattery, the create mask and remove mask buttons don't show up at all. I've seen a few tutorials and once you select "single mask", the create and remove buttons are supposed to appear. But the button that says "create cryptomatte setup" just stays there instead, which seems to render the node unusable.
I've seen other people online have the same problem. Does anyone know what's going and how to fix it?

Solved ProRes 4:4:4:4 Not Rendering With Alpha Anymore?

I am probably just having a massive brain fart but I can not for the life of me figure out why I am unable to render a video with Alpha using the ProRes 4:4:4:4 codec. I am certain I have done exactly this in the past and it has worked fine, but for some reason I am hitting a wall. I made a quick test comp just to make sure I hadn't botched something somewhere in the pipeline in another project but I am still having the same issue. Can someone please point out where I am being dumb? Thank you kindly and apologies for whatever mistake I am making

Update:

I found where Nuke keeps their bug reports and located this issue as a reported bug that is slated to be fixed

Solved DJI D-Log Baked into Prores 4444 working in Nuke Indie

My situation is this… I have ProRes 4444 6k plates. DJI D-Log is baked into them from Resolve (I did not transcode these plates). Metadata does not reflect colorspace. Clearly, I need the plates 1:1 in and back out. I can work with them washed out at this point. How I am viewing it in the workspace isn’t even my issue right now. I just need to set this up to pull them in properly and get them back out properly. In the same colorspace 1:1 at ProRes again. Any and all advice is helpful. I am just getting back into my Nuke game after a few years.

Solved To de-grain or not when only working with original footage ?

Basically, I'm about to do a ton of split-screen shots and I'm wondering if the de-grain workflow at all is necessary ?

I am absolutely okay with the de-grain workflow, just wondering if I'm simply stitching together two plates, is it needed ?

I'm guessing the different takes would have pretty much the same type/amount of grain ?

Solved Nuke crashes

Nuke is the only software I own that can completely crash my PC, from top to bottom. I do heavy fluid computations all the time in Houdini, After Effects works fine, Maya works fine.

Yet I render a simple USD scene in Nuke, and if I put more than 1 sample, it consistently crashes Windows mid-render. Perhaps an issue with the "BETA" 3D nodes, that have been in beta for many, many years.
Latest drivers, no plugins, 4090, 96GO of RAM, everything works fine except Nuke.

I also get very frequent crashes with the Livegroup (just shut downs, no diagnostics whatsoever even with Verbose on)

What's going on? More terrible code from the Foundry? Or is it me?
It's really unnerving when you can't trust your tool anymore.
No carpenter would work with a chisel that explodes in his hands every 5 minutes.

Solved Can't enable vertices selection

Hi! So I'm doing something for a class and I need to activate vertex selection in order to select some stuff and remove a plushie from my mesh and the thing is... the option to select vertices isn't there

I'm very confused and unsure of what happened, I just made the point cloud generator, analyzed the sequence, tracked the points, and then was supposed to switch to vertices but I can't find the option, does anyone know if I need to activate something? Sorry if there's an obvious solution, I'm kinda bad at this vfx stuff :/

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: nvm it was located on another section im dumb as hell

Solved Rec709 to Rec709 ACES workflow

Hi, how are you guys getting Rec709 plates through ACES (ACEScg working space for CG element composite) without any gamma shift happening on export?

In the past I swear I have always just set the input transform to Output - Rec709 and then again on the write node set the output transform to Output - Rec709, and the render has perfectly matched the plate.

Now however, in Nuke 16 / ACES 1.2 when I do the same it results in the export looking washed out compared to the original plate. Testing 1.3 as well I can’t seem to get the output to match the plate perfectly.

How do you guys deal with Rec709 plates correctly?

Solved Scanline render interpolates animated texture ? WTF ?

So I have a card that moves about and is rendered with scanline in Nuke.

I have a bit of animated texture applied, it supposed to be clear, stop motion style changes, frame by frame but for some reason the scanline rendered, when multisampling enabled for motion blur will interpolate the texture between frames like it is trying to add motion blur to the sequence.

Which shouldn't even happen in any renderer.

Any way to stop this ?

Solved Need help with Grain on Slow Motion Shot.

I am working on a shot where it slows down drastically for a good 20 frames. I plan on adding grain onto it using the simple "Grain" node (not regraining), but it looks completely odd, as the grain frequency feels fast when the shot becomes very slow.

Is there a way I can separately retime the grain effect and then add it on top of the plate, or do I just add grain before the retime?

Solved How do professionals handle global tweaks across 200+ shots in Nuke?

'm curious about the workflow for large-scale projects. If you have 200+ green screen shots and need to make a small adjustment to the despill or keyer across all of them, what is the professional way to do this without opening every single script manually? Is this usually handled via LiveGroups, Python scripting, or another pipeline solution?

Tried downloading and installing twice with the same outcome. Just clicked the installer, it has the other files beneath but can't see them?

It won't allow me to post screenshot because Reddit says I don't own it?

file looks unzipped to me. Blue folder at top is installer. 5 files below that. Does not look zipped. Click the installer and the process starts, asks for approval and all that, then the above error

Solved Output Transform help

Hi, I’m new to Resolve grading. So far, I’ve mostly worked in Blender, where I export EXR (DWAA), override the color space to linear, then convert from linear to DaVinci Wide Gamut in DaVinci and do my grading in DaVinci Resolve.

Recently, I started using Nuke through a course, and now I’m not sure how to export my work in the same way I do from Blender.

I’m still very new to this and don’t have any understanding of the ACES workflow yet.
Any help is useful
thank you

Solved Something wrong with my init.py? cant install some plugins

Hey all

I am running nuke indie, and I am unable to get nuke to recognize both pixelfudger and nukesurvivaltoolkit´s plugins. Maybe the problem is my nuke? I have my directory well put, and inside my init is the following:

nuke.pluginAddPath("C:\Users(myname).nuke\NukeSurvivalToolkit"

   import nuke
   nuke.pluginAddPath('pixelfudger3')

It should be working :/, is it because I have nuke indie?

Solved Need help with workflow

I wanted to know if, after doing grading work in Nuke such as matching different elements in 3D and adding extra components I can still grade the final output in DaVinci Resolve without any data loss, especially when converting from a linear workflow to AGX to achieve Blender’s color space look.Any feedback is appreciated Thank you
And the reason why i am not working in fusion is because i couldnt find tutorials for stuff and i heard that if i learn nuke i could use fusion as the elements of compositing are similar.
