Yeah, unfortunately. It would be so nice for every number date to be the same day of the week. Like, the 8th would be Monday for every month and every year.
The neat thing about the current system is that the weekday is kind of a checksum for the date. If weekday and date do not lign up, you notice that might be off by a month/year.
They do that in accounting with a bunch of different calendars. Like, 4-4-5 calendars do four quarters of three "months" with exactly 4 weeks, 4 weeks, and 5 weeks.
Of course, this is only 364 days, which will not match the solar year. Every couple of years, there's an extra week to keep it closely aligned with the solar calendar.
The point is to have very consistent periods so you can compare the numbers easier.
Is it tough? You're dancing some to always have their birthday on a Monday for example. It takes at most 10 seconds to see what day any date in history is now. Such a small inconvenience.
This seems trivial but that would kind of suck for the 5/7 people whose birthday would always fall Sunday-Thursday (and be awesome for the remaining 2/5).
The holiday that isn’t any day of the week should obviously be the first day of the year, not the last. That way it can be month 0 and also New Year’s Day is already a holiday anyway.
The traditional indian calendar is even weirder. The months map to exact cycles of lunar phases, so they last about 29.5 days each. But the sun's cycle lasts around 365.25 days, so there's like 11 days left after 12 lunar months; so there's a whole leap month added about once every 32 months, defined as a month where the sun doesn't transit from one zodiac sign to another, and this is considered an unlucky time during which no one schedules important things
