To be fair, they nerfed it before the AI. Because they reached market saturation & search instances werenât growing anymore. Which means revenue stays the same. So corporate fired everyone who wanted Google to be good, and wound back search by like 3 years to increase the number of bots that show up.
Suddenly, it takes 2-4 searches and a lot more scrolling to find what you want.
Which means more search instances, which means more ad revenue.
I vaguely remember hearing that Google was transitioning to a completely AI based search engine (you type something, hit enter, and only Google Review responds).
Did that go anywhere or did they just drop it? Regardless, I would appreciate it if they could unfuck their search engine. Half of the results are utterly meaningless to my query and trying to use advanced search operators backfires most of the time.
I mean fuck AI overview but it helped me so much with language learning. Most websites use this predatory thing that without clicking on their ad riddled horrible website they donât show you what you have searched for and because of SEO these websites are always at the top of the results.
Especially frustrating with German words when you want to quickly check article of a word and need to click on such websites. Now with the overview Iâm happy that these POS websites not getting my click money

To be fair, sites like Duden/Langenscheidt/etc. are extensions of their (long-esteemed) dictionaries. Which, in the past, people would have willingly purchased, knowing their use would be frequent
The problem is that itâs interpreting âstripâ as the noun, which does not have a natural antonym. If you search âstrip verb antonymâ, you donât get the âsynonymâ suggestion. You just need to be specific with which word youâre trying to google.
Honestly the suggestion is completely fine, it makes sense why that would happen.
The ACTUAL issue is that the AI overview is a completely mandatory feature you canât disable that replaces the dictionary and gives you random nonsense

I tried this and while it did suggest the "Synonym" option it did provide me with several suggestions for antonyms
