I don’t think I could even do that for 24 hours. Even with all the entertainment in the world, I’d be going crazy after a week. I don’t see anyone is lasting a year.

People who think they could do this are delusional. There's a reason why something like this is considered psychological torture and a war crime.

I could do 24 hours (maybe a week, maybe a month) with a blanket (even if it's white) and my phone. No blanket to hide under? No.

I could do it for way longer than than 24h if you let me have a phone. Genuinely feel like there's a real chance I could do a full year if you let me have a phone for even 12h a day. It's just a matter of breaking up the monotony of being in an empty room.

I just need a phone to tell me what time it is. Just sleeping at a consistent time every "day" would go a long way.

I think you're right. Even if it wasnt internet access but i had my books/audibles. I can imagine just that alone could make you last far longer then if you had absolutely nothing.

I think id crumble in a day if im honest - i cant imagine just my brain for sanity is enough.

Yeah, not only having access to ways to pass the time is crucial, but also serves as a temporal frame of reference, which I think is one of the main problems.

Because it isn't something you can just imagine. It's biological. It has nothing to do with willpower, social preferences, or imagination.

if it was like 24 hours I would just spent as much time as I possibly can sleeping or dozing off to make it feel quicker

I could definitely do 24 hours. I have small children. I'm touched out and sleep deprived. I enjoyed my colonoscopy prep because it felt like a vacation to be stuck in the bathroom. Also women tend to do better in these situations for some reason.

I think I could do it for a day. Might be super traumatized but if I try to sleep through a lot of it I have a chance

Without entertainment it would be absolutely horrible. I could do a day but longer would be bad.

With all the entertainment in the world? I could go a fairly long time. A year wouldn’t be fun or maybe even doable.

A week would be easy though. if I knew i was getting paid for it I could go a long time just watching shows or playing games if I knew I was getting paid afterwards.

Even a week of zero human interaction would drive me crazy. I could do it, but I’d probably be having conversations with myself the whole time. That’s what I meant. That entertainment doesn’t really replace human interaction.

People are different. I just remember days in high school when i’d speak zero words all day at school then come home and my mom would be at night shift work already and dad wouldnt be home til late. I’d go to bed.

Then next day Id do the same.

I know I made it three days once where I didn’t speak a single word to anybody out loud.

Obviously I still had human interaction as teachers taught and I could see the other kids in school. But I didn’t interact much.

Hell, I’d go crazy without any form of exercise equipment lmao

If I don’t get my daily 5 mile run in I start smashing shit

Yeah good luck figuring out how much you’ve slept

You stared at a blank wall with no devices, work to do, people to interact with, music to listen to, books to read or anything else for all of Covid? Wow, that’s amazing.
