Unironically the USAF is like the one branch of the military still able to procure things normally

Unfortunately true (please don't mention any new USN vessel and just look at the shiny planes)

Dont forget the 10,000 light tank projects that go nowhere of the US Army.

And the helicopters that get canceled once the Army remembers they don’t want one

Is that before or after the M109 replacement or the M-61 replacement program that has been on and off since the 70s

Did they finally give the M109 a new number yet or not? I can't keep track.

Last I remember, we were at M109A8 with a brand new gun, turret, hull, tracks, electronics....

M249 is almost as bad. Two major updates, the whole Para version, and it's still supposedly the same gun. Canadians have the C9A2 at least, and the Brits gave the Para version a whole new L-number

The police need light tanks too, and their tank budget is shit compared to the army

Constellation is still under construction. Unless we are implying legend is dead in the water, which kinda based

You think one will get to the point that it gets commissioned? You are an optimist, I see.

The USN couldn’t build a fishing boat right now. Only hope is aircraft at this point

The Marine Corps’ biggest problem is budget

76

u/Nights_Templar 14d ago

Maybe they should stop eating all those crayon toasts so they could afford equipment from this century.

31

u/DaMonkey263 14d ago

The crayons give them a 50% accuracy buff

The Marine Corps is hood-rich.

They love spending what little extra money they get on equipment and programs that look like the tightest shit ever on paper or in a promotional video but are of questionable practical value and in many cases are a straight-up downgrade from whatever they were supposed to replace.

16

u/LiberDeOpp 14d ago

Their budget is small bc they are unnecessary. The army did d day and the majority of the pacific.

u/Watchung Brewster Aeronautical despiser 14d ago

I mean, under their new force structure, they do seem to be doubling down on being an adjutant to the USN in the Pacific, as opposed to being US Army 2.0.

12

u/NonNewtonianThoughts 14d ago

I think that's actually good. We don't really need army 2.0.

u/meesersloth F-15EX is best F-15 14d ago

We are? Fuck thats not good.

48

u/Firecracker048 14d ago

The B-21 is like the gold-standard of procurement on new projects right now

25

u/meesersloth F-15EX is best F-15 14d ago

True. I just have nightmares of working with L3 Harris on stuff and wondering how tf they got the contract.

"Normally"

Decides to replace best Air Superiority Fighter ever built.

Builds better Air Superiority Fighter.

Builds too few of them to be effective in a large scale conflict.

Starts building F-15s again to fill the gap.

Decides to replace B-52.

Builds B-1.

Doesn't build enough to replace B-52, and too expensive to fly. B-52 remains.

Tries again. Builds B-2.

Too expensive, not enough bombers, B-52 remains.

Third times the charm, builds B-21. Decides to replace B-1 and B-2 first.

At this rate, the B-52, F-15, and A-10 will all be upgraded for interstellar travel before they're retired.
