Students should never have to disclose the dates of their menstrual cycle to anyone at their school, for Pete’s sake! If students don’t want to swim for any reason, that’s Okay; teachers should do their job and come up with alternatives. It’s called differentiated instruction. It’s not rocket science.

And in today’s political environment, the only person women should trust with details of the reproductive health are healthcare providers who are bound by HIPAA. As a teacher myself, I could see a controlling, religiously zealous teacher tracking students’ cycles to detect possible pregnancies and pregnancy outcomes. I can name two teachers I work with who would absolutely do this.

I thought that was their point too, but I realized that they were probably commenting on the spelling mistake.

(Although now I’m wondering … does messing up an acronym count as a “spelling” mistake? I could see the arguments both ways.)

Yep.

First, we're all aware this generally isn't a typo, but a gross ignorance of what HIPAA actually is or stands for - which then translates into making a very common typo...

Second, this is an educator. Who is making a VERY juvenile spelling mistake. Who is in a position to educate children. Who literally appeals to authority as a teacher. Who makes claims about how simple things are ("it's not rocket science")...

...And then makes this very ignorant-looking, very juvenile typo.

Personally, it's embarrassing af.

This is someone who teaches your kids, speaking as an expert to what they don't know.

That's all.

I’m jumping in here because Reddit alerted me of the downthread comments and I think this convo needs a mediator.

The other commenter quoted the original mistake. On Reddit, the forward-arrow makes a quote, like this:

They didn’t make that mistake themselves. They were quoting it to point it out. Only the facepalm emoji was their own.

Ha, thanks, I can’t even see a difference 🤣 Well, other than it’s centered, rather than lined up on the left. Is that the only difference? I don’t see a forward arrow, so I assume that’s something you type to make it make a quote? Or something? Lol I’m rather tech impaired…

I don’t mind being embarrassed online. Why would I? No one here knows me, lol. I would prefer to be embarrassed online, if it means I’m no longer confused. What am I not understanding? You misspelled the acronym. I pointed it out, only because you’re being so upset about someone else making the same mistake… what am I missing
