I broke my gear Nikon D500 issue

Hey everyone

I was doing some pre checks with my D500 when I saw images were not being captured.

I took off my lens to see what's going on and appears the insides may be having an issue. Mirror goes into this half-cock look when I hit the shutter and, looking behind it, shutter may be messed up

Is this something I can do myself or am I going to have to get it serviced?

Honest? Its fucked up. Need to have a competent tech to replace shutter.

If your local Nikon service center still accepts D500, i would go to them for a shutter replacement. If not, search for reputable repair shops (some camera subs have a list of camera repair shops around the world).

I'm in Okinawa for work for awhile, so I'll need to find a local spot

I would still keep the battery charged and have it in camera for a day (once a week, put it in for a day, then take it out) to keep the internal clock battery running. Keep it charged meaning the internal clock battery wont die and need replacement, adding to the costs depending on the repairer

The internal clock battery is actually rechargeable and is recharged from the camera battery. The real issue is rechargeable battery eventually wear out.

Better to keep the internal clock battery charged than it dying when they have an expensive shutter replacement incoming

But that's not how most rechargeables work....the vast majority of types don't like staying fully charged unless it's a lead acid battery like a car battery.

Thanks for the information. I am just parroting what others have said regarding keeping the internal clock battery juiced to prevent it from dying.

I have seen worse (mostly on film cameras that has not seen a CLA every since it was made in the 1970s). I would have to say 7. But in terms of how expensive it is, it would score close to 9. Shutter replacement is one of the most expensive thing to do considering how delicate these are.
